John, the livery button has naval connotations, the star image looks like a Capstan or windlass off a 17 century sailing ship. the image below it looks like a section of rope. I hope this helps.
Blessings, my Scottish Detectorist friend, from this old man in Tennessee. It’s raining cats & dogs outside. I’m glad the weather was good for detecting, in the Bonnie hills of Perthshire.
Many thanks my Tennessee friend! See you on the next and best wishes!! ☔️
I was wondering where he got the hat 😂 Hello from Sweet Home Alabama!
John - a huge thanks for taking us along on your dig. Congratulations on all of your treasures, especially the silver. Looking forward to Part 2.
Thanks Sandy! See you on part 2 and it’s gonna be epic!!! 🤩
I automatically press 👍 because it’s always enjoyable watching you and have you tell about your finds. That button looks nautical… 🥰👍👍
Glad you enjoyed Terry and thanks for the kind words and support! See you on part 2
John - welcome back to sharing your treasures with us. Always enjoy your history lessons with each found treasure. Blessings you feel better after breathing the fresh air.
Thanks Sandy! On the med now thankfully
Thank the lord for you , this has made my day .🏴🏴🏴
That one coin looking thing with the two tabs may be a knock out plug from an electrical box?…. Congrats on another successful day 👏👍
Great hunt in part one, sorry you were under the weather. You did a great job!!!
Many thanks! Getting better now!!
Always a treat to watch your videos, John. Looking forward to seeing Part 2.
Part 2 is going to be a beauty! Glad you liked part 1
Good Farmer. Look at all the organic matter they've turned into their field. Impressive. 🎉
Quite a difference isn’t it!! Amazing!! Thanks for watching
So many unusual finds. Fun to watch. Thanks John.
Recognised the ponds cold cream bottle right away, before you read it out. 😁 And the tanner got me 2 comics 😄
Great finds John. Being from Texas, I am no means familiar with medieval or Roman finds, but the large weight looks like the 3 marks on the bottom may be a trident, so maybe Roman? The unidentified round object with the two broken bits on the edges, may be a heavy fabric or light leather decoration, that had prongs that clasped on the back side. Just my thoughts. Looking forward to part 2. Cheers from Texas.
Great suggestions David. I shall investigate further and thanks for watching!
Thank you john, sorry for the late watch, some great finds 👍 and hopefully you’re feeling better.
Hi John, glad to go along on your treasure hunting.
Thanks Gloria. Glad you enjoyed and part 2 coming soon!
Thank you John for another great film. My grandson got us set up with the internet two years ago, and you and Nicola White were the first two I subscribed to. I have learnt so much history from your finds plus I love to hear the birds in the background especially the Skylarks and then today there was a yellow hammer , so Thank you and I hope your cold is better soon.
Nice to see you back 🎉
Thanks for watching and best wishes Rob
So good to see your finds bro. Nice work. Looking forward to part 2. The coin with the 2 rampant lions & the crown stumped me, but it may be European, especially with the crown atop. Bless 👊
I love your videos and also reading the comments. People are all so knowledgeable about your finds!
Fun hunt as always. Can't wait to see part two. Old wives tail that silver has healing properties. Can tell you are feeling better already. Hahaha. Thanks for sharing!!!
the Jethro program saved me from getting discouraged with the machine. Thank you!
Hey I think that little white jar was Vick’s Vaporub sent by the metal detecting gods to help you with that cold …😂 love you channel fella 🥃 and hey after watching your last video you gave me the inspiration to go out for a wonder in the back field it was ploughed this year 😊 I found a few copper coins 17-18 hundreds and a washed Roman coin so thanks for that 👍.M
Vicks was always in a blue bottle. That white jar probably cold cream. Maybe Pond's.
Glad to hear it Martyn. Happy hunting!!
@@lindaahlgrim1331 yes I know I was just joking 😊
Another very interesting video John great to be able to enjoy seeing it Hope the odd finds can be identified by your followers thanks again
Many thanks. Much appreciated
Nice selection of finds John as ever, and you’re right, detecting is the best hobby ever! You’re just lucky though too as you have fantastic historic permissions up there in Perthshire. Let us know what that round lead thing was with the hole in, and did you weigh it? Looking forward to part 2! 🙏
Thanks Pauline! I didn’t get a chance to weigh it yet but coming soon!! Thanks and best wishes
Great Video John, and some lovely finds, especially that silver sixpence.. My first (and only atm) sixpence is an 1871 Victoria, and that feeling you get when you find something like that is fantastic... I use the Nox 800 and love detectoring, such a great hobby.. Keep on hunting..👍🤓 Rgds Colin from Devon
Once again another enjoyable video and looking forward to part 2. Liking your new Scottish Detectorist logo. Would look great on a mug!!
As ever John it was a great video and looking forward to part two, cheers pal
Many thanks Mr Ghost. Happy hunting
Still enjoy to watch these, I've learnt so much 😊
I'm so glad! Thanks for watching sammi
Thanks for taking me along with breakfast. Jolly good hunt as always. Best of wishes
Great dig! Looking forward to part 2! Take care!😊
Thanks Maureen
In as much as you're suffering through a it of a cold (I hope it doesn't become what has been going around here in NJ, upper respiratory illness), you braved through quite an interesting day. That lead piece with the three marks on the bottom may be a Roman weight, the III may stand for 3 grams (if it is 3 grams). Well done, John. The silver sixpence at the end was a reward for your endurance.
Get some rest.
Thanks John for sharing
You are very welcome! Thanks for watching
Excellent part 1 🎉 must of been the lucky new hat 🧢
Hahaha 🤣 thanks Jennifer. Always nice to see you here
Coin at 12:28 looks like ½ Pice - Victoria
1853 Standard circulation coin, to me.
I sure love your channel, I really like all the history you tell us about. I went to Scotland in 2018, had I known that you gave tours, I would have definitely book with you.
My friends and I are hoping to make it back in the next few years. Hopefully we can book with you.
Thanks for the info Suzie and I hope you make it back!! You know where I am if you need me!! Best wishes , John
@@suzielewis9308 don’t think it’s a pice…that one didn’t have any proud lions on it.
There was a laurel wreath on the other side of the lions though I believe.
I believe it was a Half Anna coin.
Could it be an East India coin - half Anna as @weedfreer suggests. 1857? The EIC was dead and buried by 1874.
Thanks John!
Thanks for watching Debbie and see you in part 2
Cheers John, you big tease! 😅
I think the star-shaped motif above the rope on the button indicates a nautical theme, the star thingie could be a ship's wheel.
Yes I thought that. The spikes look a bit like the hinged thing like a protractor that was used for mapping
Amazing!! Thanks 🤩
Don't forget to clean up and inspect that chunky round bronze thing. It may be a 2nd century roman bronze coin.
Thanks Randall. I’ll investigate further. Many thanks
Hey John, not sure where your video is with that beautiful aurochs artifact. I’m now suspecting that it’s a lot earlier than what I’d originally thought. I believe it could easily be Byzantine, but there are similar Saxon examples from around 620 AD. Although it may have been a bucket handle embellishment, it could also have been from a belt, as was the fashion during this time.
Feel better John!
On the mend now thanks Patty
A cup of ice cream, and then at the end, a silver cherry on top !!!
Hahaha 🤪
Sounds great!
Coin with a shield looks like a Half Anna from 1835
Amazing. That would be great! I shall investigate further. Best wishes
@@thescottishdetectorist I noticed a six pointed ✡ in the middle top between the lion (leftside)and the figure on the right.
Thanks for the video.
That cap is bad ass, it looks like it once held razor blades on the brim like a Peaky Blinder ;)
Whenever I see you post a video I click........ never disappoints 👍
Many thanks. Glad you like
Looks like a Woodbury cold cream jar. Hope you are feeling better.
Many thanks! On the mend now Linda but took over three weeks to shake this cough
I have an old Pond's jar just like that.
Feel better soon John
On the mend now thankfully 😅
Think that coin may well be an Indian Colonial coin called the East India Company 1/2 Anna Coin possibly from 1835
Amazing! Thanks for the info!! I’ll look that one up!!
@@thescottishdetectorist no worries…I think that someone else mentioned it also.
A little bit more info…there appears to be 2 variants… one made in Bombay, which has a specific thickness (as in, the height when laid flat)… there’s a young lad who did a RUclips vid about the coin (Christians Coin Corner over on The Coin Dictionary channel) in which he mentions some more about it
Whether you can tell which you’ve got from that, given the corrosion, I’m not sure… maybe worth a crack once cleaned up a little?
The vid also reports that the coin is 1/32 of a Indian penny (I think, unless, it was of their equivalent of a pound)
I’ll take the overcast. It was 45C here in California yesterday.
Ouch!! Too hot!!! 🥵
Sir John , Please Please give us the history lessons!,
I’ve been too The UK over 4 decades from my home here n Seattle Wa.
Been too Stone henge too.
We Absolutely love you history lessons , & then too see you find it 1k yrs later?,
Just Amazing my Friend !!,
Den , just smashing !!, 👌🏻
I don’t mean to be nosey but, would it be a good idea to provide us viewers with some follow up regarding your mystery finds? I would enjoy knowing what “things “ are and perhaps any museum or monetary values? Sincerely a Chuck the Canuck🇨🇦
Awesome video mate!
Could be Ponds Cold cream. Face cream used to get make up off. Very oily
The coin with the 2 lions and shield could be a Dutch coin, a Duit from Utrecht 17/18 century
The coins are worn today, but I will take George coins if you have too many. I never see them on this side of the pond.
Thanks David!
Good job. Nice silver.
Thanks 👍 always great to get silver
Bellissimi ritrovamenti complimenti 👍
Some Dutch cities had coins with lions and a shield like this one (Zutphen, Netherlands 17th century. Copper 'Duit')
Amazing info! Thanks I shall investigate!! Best wishes
Brilliant!!!!
So I did some research on the shield and lion coin. It looks identical to the east india company's "5". 1803 dated one that I saw.
With the popularity of your channel and the importance of making “field” identifications….might you find it beneficial to carry a magnification glass aiding you in id’ing your finds…and possibly even allowing you to film the enlargements? Thanks from California USA.
Thanks Mickey. I actually have two in my finds pouch and the zipper has jammed 😩 but I’ll try and fix it first chance I get. Thanks for watching
I was wondering if the lump of lead could be a spindle whorl ?
COOL button John
That coin looks like it says -36 or -35. I am guessing 1836.
Hi John that coin looks like it's Latvian early 20th century .
I actually agree on that one, good catch.
Great day.
Possibly a British East Indian coin from India. Circa 1803.
That would be amazing! I’ll google it. Best wishes
Could that lead weight have III as in 3 oz?
You need the occasional Scottish lass, with accent to sub for Simon!
not a bad day more to come john
Part 2 is a beauty Alan 🤩
@@thescottishdetectorist we get gold
Is that a masonic button?
Or nautical button w that kind of star .
is there maybe a lion on the left side of the back of the one coin, from Belgium?
Silver six pence. 50 percent is still a nice find.
Thanks David. Always nice to see some silver!!!
Fo u have me any tips please where i can metal detector in Livingston wedt Lothian please Michelle Thank you for sharing..can i please book s tour eith you
isn't that a lion and a unicorn? on that " foreign" coin
So, I really want to know more about that button. I made a deep dive into Google and it seems Firmin & Sons made a LOT of buttons but I could not find one like yours. I hope someone with more knowledge chimes in because I really want to know.
Me too!! A really nice button. I’ll update when I know more. Thanks
Oh, I hope you find out more soon. I kept looking and just could not find it.
Hi there, just to let you know, covid is doing it's rounds in perthshire, I know I have it, Agnes from perthshire 🏴
I think the coin is a Danish Krona
Hey is that a Tennessee cap John?
YES, SURE LOOKS LIKE ONE TO ME. I'm in Sweetwater, Tennessee.
@@carriebright9574
Cool! Yep! Just down the road Chattanooga.
It could well be! I forgot to ask!!
It sure is!
@@bechuddleston love it! Born and raised Tennessean.
1867 I see on that coin.
Coin with lions might be an East India Company ½ Anna
Amazing. Thanks for the info!!
that 1st button has to be a seafaring button with that rope?
British East India company coin with the two lions.
That coin kind of reminds me of a Spanish reales
You might need a magnifying glass?
Looks like that coin may be an east india trading coin. 1808
Disclaimer Foreign coin is not Danish.
Probably from an Colonies over east.
Once it was " Rule Britannia etc"
And it was true! Now even NHS is
In problems 😱🙄
To help you see your coins better put some nose oil on it just a thought
yay hi john
Hope you enjoyed Alan and best wishes
@@thescottishdetectorist thanks john ho i did
The coin is British India Anna coin 🤔👍😊
Have you upset all your detecting friends? Not that you need them to produce great content, just that you need someone to get excited with when you pull out silver....praying for you to find a hoard, you deserve it for all your hard work, big kisses for your wife for letting you play and all the best to you...old fart from the Midlands...
That might be the case 🤣 or they just lead busy lives!! What can I say
And thanks for watching Andrew. Best wishes
1864 you can see that
As for the coin, the design on the front is very swedish like.
Google: 1851 Swedish 1 Riksdaler
and youll see about the same design, yet yours is Copper/Brass/Bronze ect. Maybe a faked coin?
Thanks Lefty. I’ll have a look. Much appreciated
I thought so first but at a closer look I noticed the lions looking at the shield and all Swedish lions look outwards/ away from the shields/ coat of arms.
@@thescottishdetectorist No problem, Greetings from your fellow metal detectorist in the heart of Bavaria!
3 ounce weight?
Ahhh…. Well, could be I suppose! Need to check the weight thanks
11:49 As for the coin, there is actually a British pound that some time had a lion on left side and a unicorn on the right side of a shield with a knights head/ helmet above. Also I know some Swedish coins from mid/ late 1700 had two lions on each side of a shield with a crown BUT the faces of the lions was facing outwards. Also when Norway was part of Sweden they had the same with two lions, shield, crown but facing outwards. So we can rule out Sweden, as for Norway they had mostly one lion and Denmark 3 laying lions.
The Dutch coins of 1800 I think had two lions, but let us know when or if you find out.
Might be edited as video goes on.
Thanks Andy. Still unsure but I’ll update when I know
@@thescottishdetectorist
Cheers John, never a dull moment when you detect😉
Think the coin is a German coin possibly around 1904.
Brilliant. Thanks! I shall investigate further. Best wishes
German coins at that time had an eagle on the backside, this one have either 2 lions or 1 lion and 1 dragon like the Latvian coins early 1900.
@@thescottishdetectorist Google German coins with lions.
I have a Question.. why is one called Stratton Mountain 'whilst all the others have Scottish names?'
👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻
Every weather update you give makes me think you are here in Ohio, lol
Hahaha 🤣 so it’s not just Scotland that is struggling
On it john 😀💪🏴🏴🏴
Many thanks
