In terms of the MS, it's definitely more open now than even a few months ago. In fact, even in most other disciplines it's the same. Pairs or players we thought would dominate are losing easily. If we were to go into any given tournament right now, I'd have no clue about who would even be a finalist apart from in maybe XD.
Why not differentiating Europeans and American championships per category rather than over all five disciplines?! Then the gap in men‘s singles would probably be only one level…

As a fan from China, I truly appreciate your comments on Shi Yuqi. Just for clarification, according to his interview with Chinese media, he had a fever of around 39 degrees Celsius last night before playing against Jonathan Christie and took some fever reducer. On the day of the match , his temperature decreased to 37.5 degrees Celsius, but he still felt unwell. Even though he was struggling, he still made the decision to withdraw from the game to pretect his body.
Yes.. Jonathan Christie said that too, in his interview.. Jojo really give respect to Shi Yu Qi , because he said, not easy to be Shi Yu Qi, because he must back to back to the tournament after he must face a though week in French Open..
@@djstr0b3 It doesn't matter to me whether you like him or not, and there's no need for you to tell me about it. If you don't like him, simply ignore him. ❤️

Awesome discussion as always, thank you guys. A couple recommendations for next time: I would put the subtitles as optional with the imbedded RUclips subtitles function if possible so they don't obstruct the view and HKs phone camera is better than his webcam it seems like 😅
Agree with the comment on the subtitles. I think it actually made it more difficult for me to figure out who the players you mentioned were...because instead of just listening to the pronunciation of the names, I got influenced by the name written in the subtitles 😅
Yes for subtitles! As for the grey court, why not. That is what they did for Laver Cup (tennis), and people got used to it. But it does seems strange indeed.
Good to see you guys back, great episode as always, AA and Om Hans! 😆 I just wanna add something, there's also another controversy in AE that has been discussed massively among Indonesian fans on twitter. It's on QF, when Akane was having a match point 20-18 in the 3rd set against Tunjung (she was catching up from 19-16). In the middle of rally, someone in the stands turned on the flash from their phone (it happened many times in this particular match, and also other matches actually). Tunjung immediately annoyed, stopped playing, and complained to the umpire. There's a video that clearly shows the flash, and other fans on the arena shouting and complaining too. But the umpire seemed doesn't care, and gave Akane her winning point 21-18, and Tunjung left the court crying. Some says on twitter that the rule is it's not the umpire business for whatever interfering a rally, the rally cannot be repeated, and a point must be given anyway. So, I actually want to know what's your take on this, but you guys don't discussed it 😅✌️
I agree with HKV that the gray grey on me after a while and that it has a calmer quality. I disagree with AA that the AE should always look the same. Firstly, it has never been „the same“ as it has had many different looks over the years. Secondly, Badminton is not as established and recognizable yet in Europe and we need to appeal to new audiences.
Great discussion and insights! Really interesting to hear some of the behind the scenes trivia and info such as the ranking, tournament points, court mats etc. Nice to hear opinions from Anders as a player and HK as a commentator, coach and badminton ambassador 😎 keep the episodes coming guys 🤞
Thank you for your interesting input on professional badminton each episode! I’ve been following you for a long time and I’m always happy to see a new episode. It brings me a lot of joy :)
I'm not sure what the regulation says about the blocking on the net, but Andrei Adistia (the former Indonesia national player) whose also a coach right now said that it really depends on the judge. In several tournaments many years ago, some judge making a different decision on pretty much same situation (he mentioned LCW match). So maybe, thats because the regulations is unclear(?) and BWF needs to do something with it if its possible. Aside from that, im just trying to give a bit different perspective to this situation.
The grey mats bothered me at first, but the longer I watched, the easier it actually seemed to watch the games. Eyes didn’t feel as fatigued, players were easier to follow. I’m sold.
Great discussion guys - on the subject of calls around the net, I was interested that you would see no problem reviewing these (same as line calls). Apart from introducing more interruptions, I'm not sure a review would be so easy - even touching the net... was it racket or shuttle? In Viktor's case, it was a crucial stage in the game and this just made a tricky call more influential. With net blocking, this has been part of the game for a while now. I think the problem at the All England was some (very experienced) umpires don't do the World Tour circuit and haven't seen this tactic as much. I have played for many years and when I first saw it, I didn't like it because it more often looks like interference - perhaps some umpires still see it like that. Do the umpires get together to try and reach commonality on these decisions (narrow down the grey area), or is it down to their interpretation of the rules? By the way, Nishimoto's block was just brilliant and in no way could be considered interference.
Top 4 seeds all had some type of injury for women’s’ singles so that may have some influence on the outcome of the final. Not saying Marin didn’t play great games, but the fact she was out early for French Open and the other top 4 seeds played significantly more matches and getting injured or already had injuries definitely helped paved the way for Marin’s win I think.
I forgot to ask about the annoying flash disturbances going down at the All England. It's been going down a few times, even after a few warnings, some irresponsible spectators are still at it. Is camera flash really that distracting for the players' vision?
First, nice to have Tiny Vini as background, Om Hans! 😂😂😂. He just popped out of nowhere. Talking about the level of Asian Championship and European Championship points earned, I guess it's unfair though. If the World Championship is equal to S1000 level, then the Asian is equal to S750 and the European is equal to S500. I think that's slightly fair but debateable. We could discuss it with clear in that terms. But if the Asian is S1000 and the European is S500, DEFINITELY UNFAIR. Badminton would just fully went "Cricket", only popular in British Commonwealth countries and dominated by India-Pakistan only. Badminton, by default, is still considered as "Asian Sport" but it's more recognizeable than table tennis, which is "SO ASIAN". Lol. If you watch table tennis championship, even Brazilian and Western players are almost all of them has Chinese name. Only Eastern European, Indonesian and Japanese players who doesn't sound so Chinese. Definitely a backward move. The decision to make Asian Championship equals to S1000 tournament is only fair if the European equals to S750, Pan-Am S500 and Afcon S300. But my humbled advise: - World Championship (S1000) - Asian Championship (S750) - European Championship (S750/500) - Pan-Am and Afcon Championship (S300). It would help promoting the sport worldwide.

i think it would be a good idea to be able to challange net kills but i would argue, that it would be even better, if the umpire just instantly looks at the recordings, if the net kill was super tight. like in the match of ginting vs axelsen. there is just no way the human eye can see whats realy going on. the umpire needs to see that shot in slowmotion and than make a deciosion. it should not be the players potentially waisting a challange on such tight shots. i mean it only happens once or twice a game, so it wouldnt even waist a lot of time. just like hawkeye, the umpire would take some 10 secounds to make his call and than they can continue to play but i fear that bwf sadly wont install such tech on each court, not even on super 1000 or olympics, and that is a real shame :( i dont even think it would be that expensiv. just one ipad per court and a cheap slowmotion camera at the net would suffice in my opinion
For the events issue, points could be done at a category level for each event based on how many top players are in each event. Honestly you guys always flatter Marin way too much.
