The connection between all four is amazing. Their timing is impeccable. Anita is such a strong leader. And they are so free, spontaneous and unselfish in their playing (including Anita). It doesn't get any better.
Thrilled to have found this video. For years, this rendition of "On A Clear Day" has echoed in my mind, having had the LP in my college days. To actually SEE her do this performance, as well as listening to it again, is a rare treat. This video captures her at a peak in her career. I saw her in Boston in the early 80's, and she was still phenomenal. Truly a genius of a singer.
It was 40 yrs ago when I first heard this on vinyl. To this very day, I remember every bit of her take on On A Clear Day. Brilliant from start to finish.
Queen O'Day is swing/jazz master. Learn and respect her. She beyond deserves it. I'm a singer, and have no fuc*i&g clue as to how she does this. She is a one of a kind, amazing. Rest in peace Queen.
Started as a kid that knew two tunes she learned and respected musicians especially drummers and the timing over 60 years you can know how to move the pocket.
The Beach Bum Club in Malibu,Cal. early 1971..Anita came across as she was just starting out way back when..as it's been said with age one raised to the ultimate heights, Anita great example of a jazz innovator. T'was the tops!!! Of female jazz singers..
Wowza! Anita was such an exquisite talent. And, she's in her early 50s here, and is still gorgeous. What a sexy lady. 😍 Ty, I thoroughly enjoyed this concert.
Anita is a one of a kind vocal jazz explorer, pushing the rhythmic envelope, creating her own scatting originals out of the great American songbook. Thrilling!
I had the album from this concert, treasured it, but lost it. What a gift to have found this - never knew it was filmed. Thank you! I'll probably add another 1K views to the total.
+Ricardo da Mata "a better singer" - you make it sound like an objective truth? There are many aspects of jazz vocals: voice, timing, melodic interpretations, swing, diction, attitude, etc, etc. Personally I just can't stand big-vibrato singers like Vaughan, even though they have "great voices" in the traditional sense. But that's me!
So great!! Makes one wonder how many concerts are hidden away in euro archives. Loved her take on Soon it's gonna rain. And all the rest. Thanks so much.
I was in Paris for the same concert some days before or after, and the public booed during all her set. I feel so sad of it though I was at the background trying to hear, and loving what she was singing. I still love it.
Why/how in the name of all things sacred, would she be booed? I'm having real difficulty trying to wrap my mind around that one. Is it a 'French thing'? I thought the French, certainly Parisians, dug jazz. I think Anita is pure gold!
Fantastic. Out of this world. Thank you for posting this (& the internet bots who served this up to me)! Unforgettable performance. I'll come back to it again and again.
Georges Arvanitas was something else! If course Anita was always great but Arvanitas is seldom mentioned and without his backing her sets wouldn’t have risen to the heights they did. The Georges Arvanitas trio simply the best!!!!
I agree. It's mainly a matter of the West German Radio logo wafting around in the upper left corner. The logo was stable in the version I uploaded; the stabilizing was RUclips's doing. The upside is that camera wobble is reduced and better esp in closeups. The downside is that many frames are cropped a bit, plus the floating logo.
powenmoore its doing strange things to Anita's face also - there are times when the stabilizing technique is so efficient that when she is still & her lips are moving, it actually stabilizes her face to such a degree that it looks as if her lips were superimposed over a still image of her. Its freaky! :)
It doesn't deter from the experience, for me. So long as I can hear her magnificent vocal styling and see her gorgeous eyes, I'm good. And, the musicians are superb. 😎👍
Yes I was just thinking the same thing. I'm guessing that Amy Winehouse was influenced by many of the great jazz vocalists, but you can definitely hear it here with Anita.
I met Anita the first time in 1970 in Hawaii after I married her drummer John Poole.
Dorothy, John and Anita were a great duo! I’d love to hear more about John.
Wow! That pianist is off the hook! Anita...is that same expert, experienced, professional, great classic singer, with class & style!
The connection between all four is amazing. Their timing is impeccable. Anita is such a strong leader. And they are so free, spontaneous and unselfish in their playing (including Anita). It doesn't get any better.
I can't get enough of Anita
Anita, I always loved who you were and the tremendous talent you gave to Jazz. You are my jazz queen!
Andrew Rosen
Ditto, dude!
La divine Anita O'Day et le génial trio Arvanitas... Qu'espérer de mieux ? Magnifique magie du jazz !!! Pour toujours !!!
Some of the best singing I've ever heard! Thanks for Sharing! The band is so tight! Everyone on stage has big ears
Anita, GREAT! Camera, GREAT! Trio, GREAT! Big thanks.
Such a beautuful voice...

Nice to know that there's a kindred spirit out there somewhere for whom this performance resonates as deeply as it does for me.
Indeed. Cheers.
Anita’s a one of a kind genius- love this performance

Damn , I never listened to Anita O'Day before I ran into this. Wow. She is fantastic. Georges Arvanitas is also wonderful.
just amazing trio and Anita so free and focused at the same time...love it truly

Seemingly effortless mastery. Supernatural.
Damn, what an outstanding piano player
Sin dudas una de las verdaderas Grandes del Jazz de todos los tiempos. Gracias por compartir.

❤❤❤ ANITA O'DAY FOREVER 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
THANK YOU for telling us the names of THE MUSICIANS
What an amazing performance. Just loved "Soon It's Gonna Rain."
She's at her very best. Truly amazing!
Amazing. A true artist. Very few singers today can do this.
+Wren Roberts She is fantastic but Sarah Vaughan, for instance, is a better singer.

Chill out, man. Dig those groovy beats....
Yeah...that's it! Go, girl!
By Chance i found this original live recording in mint condition at A remote vinyl Store near karlstad sweden...amazing!!!!!!....Love her
The musicians are just fantastic! God Arvanitas, Genius Sampson and Great Saudrais.
This is one of my favourite performances by Anita O'Day. Can't thank you enough for posting it!
thanks so much for sharing great singer plus trio.

The was a lot of anti american sentiment in France during this time.
@@JohnSmith-un9jm cool
Sometimes it takes people years to catch up on genius.
Al fin subieron completo el concierto. Gracias a los dioses del olimpo y a Patrick Moore
Thanks for posting. She was really something unique.
Excellent
"If you've never been in love": what a marvellous performance!
Fantastic. Out of this world. Thank you for posting this (& the internet bots who served this up to me)! Unforgettable performance. I'll come back to it again and again.
I love Anita. This is my favorite song she sings. Damn.

Love Anita, she's in great voice here too.
Anita's autobiography is a real eye opener. If you're a fan you need to check it out
the sang like she was another insturment in the band, and i dont mean the impro parts but the normal lyrics parts. stunning
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing!!
totally AWESOME.
ANITA A PERFEITA!❣
She had great ears and control..
Anita with her special voice and interpretations added another instrument to the set. Always unafraid and experimental she was a true “Jazz Great”
one of my fave's. thanks!
I saw a documentary about Anita O’Day and it was superb it’s sad that she went through so much drug addiction during her years.
Charlie Luciano No. She came through it! VICTORY!!!!
@@JanetESmith-er8sk Yes! And, that's the main thing. Anita was a survivor!
drugs work
Incredible swinger. I can attest she never sang a song the same way twice.
Whoa
She was way cool.
How sweet.
Have you seen her gloves on hands, like in the 1950's?
Best white female jazz singer ever. Next level phrasing.
21:41 I can't get started
With the rarely sung verse. Very special.
Can anyone tell me where I can see her doing "Nobody does it better"? My favourite track (if I have to pick only one)
she was in great shape here!
This woman learned skat from God.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Georges Arvanitas (p) Jacky Samson (b) Charles Saudrais (dms)
Beatles' Yesterday is nothing compared to Kern's and Harbach's Yesterdays.
the stabilizing effect that was done to this video is doing some really odd things in certain shots. It looks weird.

What a pity the Bechstein grand is so OUT OF TUNE ! Didn't seem to worry wonderful Anita ! Love Her.
You are right!
I, too, am surprised at the piano being out of tune. Couldn't they have given Anita a properly-tuned piano? It almost ruins the performance for me.
😀❤️🌸🍀
QUE PIANISTA UAUUU...!!!!
Amy Winehouse appears to have borrowed liberally from Ms O’Day.
Yes I was just thinking the same thing.
I'm guessing that Amy Winehouse was influenced by many of the great jazz vocalists, but you can definitely hear it here with Anita.
A human reed instrument. Other worldly.
