I have a pristine 2003 CL 55 AMG that was owned by a retired U.S. Navy Master Chief and having served with a number of those guys I know them to be very detail oriented men who do everything by the book. After speaking with the man I discovered he had every single service record going back to the day the war came off the boat from Germany. I drove the car and after looking the car over carefully and checking the records I bought the car. It is, without question, is the finest CL 55 AMG I have ever seen. I really appreciated that the car is a true "Silver Arrow". I love the car and really love driving it. It is very much a great autobahn cruiser that is superb on long road trips with my wife. My wife dtives a 2009 CLK 550, with an AMG appearance group and is no slouch either with nearly 400 horsepower. I have loved Mercedes Benz cars since my first car, a 1956 Mercedes Benz 190 4 door sedan Pontoon, that my Pop and I restored. They are all great cars.
+ Gerald Ander Lee he never said his dad's car had problems though. While I do agree they (like all German cars) are expensive to maintain and fix I feel like some models that aren't overly complicated can last quite a while if serviced and used appropriately.
that being said I drive 16 year old Honda Accord so I have nothing to worry about lol. she is old and not as bottoned up as she used to be but reliabile as ever. 😆
I love it when even petrolheads like Matt pause the "engine this exhaust that" and take a moment to appreciate an interior like that. IMO it's a big part of the driving experience, for a fact I'm still searching for how a late90s-early2000 Benz makes you feel, missing that in every other car I drive.
If you live somewhere warm the early 2000's 230 SLK Kompressor (4 cyl supercharged) is a very fun car in a manual. Just throwing on a pulley nets you some extra horsepower too. Kind of like a heavier Miata with a much nicer interior and more dailyable ride.
Interior quality is hugely lacking in most cars. I moved from an 06 merc cls55 AMG into a 2012 Cadillac V and what a huge disappointment it was in regards to the interior
Robert Henderson German to american, it was to be expected to be honest. Although that happens with newer cars even inside the same brand. I had an E class from that era, with very similar interior. Good, not great compared to a `98 E class I had. They didn't care about weight back then, and I certainly much prefer a genuine metal inside door handle rather than the chrome finished plastic my '07 had, just to give you an example.
Hey, the car is only slammed when parked, it's not like he's driving it around like that, jeeez. This car lends itself to air suspension and I really like full sized MB coupes and it looks like he has Lorinser (spelling) wheels on it and they look good to me.
they aren't really oversized and since they look similar to the SLR rims they are pretty classy imo. premiumposts.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/04/slr.JPG
"Sorry this video is longer than usual"? That was such a cool ride with such a cool mood from both of you that even if it was 60' it would still be a pleasure to watch. Thanks and waiting for the next one!
97aventador because he wasn't using it for what it was intended, he was just using it as a DD in traffic and felt he wasnt doing the car justice. something like that.
I don't know if I'm in the only one… but I kinda prefer the older Benz model's (80's, 90's, early 2000's, like the CL above) over the newer modern ones… Who else? ;)
No, slammed means low. Static means permanently low. Driving static slammed is pointless as you will get stuck fucking everywhere, thats pure for show...
A quality replacement damper for the air suspension costs ca. €500 on the spare part market. And the factory damper usually lasts more than 100k+ miles on standard quality roads. Dirt and sand can only damage the damper if the protection rubber hose is broken. In this case the seal from the damper becomes leaky as sand corns scratch the seal of the damper cylinder. I have never heard that all 4 damper are done at the same time. My rear left is now done with 115k miles and the others are above 75% as a damper test showed. Two years ago the engineer from the Vehicle inspection (TÜV) told me that the rubber protection is broken and the damper will pass away in the next time - the expert was right.
The ride is super nice, I like that kind of old-school, which is not that old yet, as it has all gadgets you may need, it goes, it is so shiny , you can see the polish on paint when they were showing the door handles. The car is very nice, and this one seems to be nicely preserved, with nicely modded suspension
The Factory suspension works perfectly- better than bags. If you maintain the suspension and stay on top of maintenance there is no need to replace it. I have a 2005 CL55 I have maintained that is working perfectly at 94K but I know I am not the norm.
Woah, you're right. It's so stable I never even realized that that's not a trivial thing to achieve, especially with this suspension I can imagine.. Great quality indeed.
I've always loved cars but kind of fell away from it in recent years. The Smoking Tire has got me really excited about cars again. Lately, I've been burning up the Internet looking at websites like Kelly Blue Book, Wikipedia, Carsforsale.com, wheelwell.com and RUclips to try to figure out what kind of car project I should take up next. In this video alone, the reference to AccuAir is golden. I checked out their website and found really awesome company with, what looks like, even more, awesome products. Thanks Matt.
Where can I get the same airbags. I just got a cl 55 amg 24k original miles and eventually I want to get the exact system but I don’t know where to go. I live near la
Dude has deep pockets mentioning buying a Panamera like it's nothing, lol. Matt giving the guy tips on the car before he sells it, Matt you are a good man.
And abc suspension is pretty amazing if it's working right I had my car for quite a while so I studied everything about it and know what to do when to do with suspension rebuild my own valve blocks which was pretty easy with harbor freight o-rings and pretty much have a good understanding of what each part does which makes it pretty simple to fix.
Owner knows hes stuff. Car looks to be in mint condition as far as the cars age is concerned, perfect match on the equipment, rims and body color. Sound and beauty in same package. Is there actually anything else to wish for except.. FULL THROTLEEEEEEEEEE!!!
You could get one of these for 9900$ and with some work have a car that was 120000$ new for around 11000$ all in!!👍 much better that getting a new 2017 CLA250 and saying you drive a "Mercedes Benz"... Yeah right your not fooling anyone.....
I love these cars!! I've wanted to buy one so bad, but get scared off cause my pockets aren't deep enough for repairs and maintenance. I've heard quite a few stories from folks I knew. They're not expensive to buy used. But they can be a nightmare to maintain if you don't have the right connection to a repair shop. It can sit in shops for weeks waiting on parts.
You guys forgot few things in terms of options. The fully optioned car also comes with adaptive headlights, adaptive cruise control that slows down on its own, push button start on the shifter which makes even cooler, also handles had a sensor to open without using a key, you can open windows doors and sunroof with a push of a key which also enables your cooled seats and recirculation, also the memory seats adjust your mirrors and steering wheel which isn't that unusual but if u ever noticed it saves your rear view mirror also and once you press your preset memory button it goes to saved position as well as seats external mirrors and steering wheel. Oh and one more thing I forgot you can lower and put back up your rear headrests as well which is very cool because all other cars only lower them.
Looks like a great car to cruise around in doing whatever you gotta do while still being able to itch that bug for the accelerator when you get it. Straight clear roads are so inviting. They mightaswell call them the Sirens of the land.
Amazing machine, amazing engine, idiotic suspension and wheels. I really don't get that scene of slamming and bagging and with huge rims...but hey whatever makes you happy. At least he can put it to normal when he wants, and yeah I guess it makes it really comfortable. Swap in a decent coilover kit and some blacked out vintage AMG wheels, and you are golden.
the only problem with that is sportier suspension wont necessarily improve a big, luxury car. with air ride you can choose between soft, comfortable city driving and then a slightly firmer performance driving setup. seems better suited for both the car in the video and what the driver wants from it.
I guess my issue is not so much with the suspension, but the scene and the slammed "stanced" vid of it sitting there. How anyone thinks that looks good is beyond me. But you guys are totally right, this is the right suspension for the car, and he seems like a guy knows how best to set up his car. I came across as an ass, and sorry for that.
ChaosphereIX no need to apologize man. without discussion youtube comments are boring. i see where you're coming from though about the whole stance thing. id rather see a scooby on a lift-kit any day rather thatn slammed 1 inch off the ground.
I don't like slammed cars. Will never own one but i get the appeal on SOME cars like this. What i hate are those slammed civics? Hatches? Performance cars like s2000, supras? I mean what a fuckin waste!
Saw this car standing in the background when you drove the 900HP+ SLS AMG and was hoping you could cover it someday. Great, another thing off the list then! Thanks for the cool video!
There's something about this C class that looks like it could have rolled off the production line yesterday. Also I love it when cars have adjustable sogginess levels, it's a very luxurious feature :p
Owner is awesome. Definitely knows his stuff.
Nobody does big luxurious mad fast coupes like Mercedes, period.
Sorry to hear youre on your period!
+Jack1138 Lol
The challenger is basically a Mercedes
+grim reaper the challenger is not luxurious it's just a big coupe that has a big engine, also the Mercedes handles better
+Jack1138 oh it's amateur night at the RUclips comment section
This guy just did all the right things to his CL55 ..... nice.
AMG's are one of the meanest sounding engines
This thing has boatloads of class
this car has boat loads of gayness
***** speed3*
Robbspeed3 well aren't you special lol
***** I like to think so
+Robbspeed3 your car is slow and youre an idiot

My dad has one of these sitting in his garage. 14k miles and never been out in the rain. Such a waste.
nooo dont make the car sad...
show it some love
14K miles yet they already have so much problems with them. Never buy Mercedes. Theyre all lemons. Always get Japanese.
+ Gerald Ander Lee he never said his dad's car had problems though. While I do agree they (like all German cars) are expensive to maintain and fix I feel like some models that aren't overly complicated can last quite a while if serviced and used appropriately.

Nice, cleanly done Merc. Owner was knowledgeable without being arrogant. Great One Take.
Wow, much bags, such stance, so slick. Amaze. Very like.
I didn't know people still do doge. Congratulations.
I vote for Trump.
***** Good point.
please kill me
+Antoine Marty help yourself
Looks like Moby owns a CL55 AMG good taste
+
damn you ... beat me to it.
Thinking the samething. Cool guy though hes awesome
x3. Yup
I thought I was the only one. lol
Would make a Moby joke but I'm not sure today's kids know who's Moby
Kek
How about some dick jokes?
Man, I love Moby's music.
looks more like Le Happy Merchant
Am I the only one who is seeing the Dean from Community?!
Dman, it has absolutely no B pillars? This car is awesome!
Used to be very popular on american cars back in the 50's and 60's.
super slick car, I want a CL600 dark blue with camel hides like a yacht.
It has B pillars, just no C pillar...
Just like most convertibles, think fox body, F bodies. Looks cool but over time end up blowing wind noise and sucking water leaks
YOU'RE*

that AMG merc V8 sound is always the best! so sick.
I can imagine the 13 dislikes are Evo and Sti drivers lmao
I'm gonna guess wrx owners. THE WORST.
Or annoying Mercedes purists who think they can tell someone what to do with their vehicle!!
Back when they showed dislikes lol
Hey, the car is only slammed when parked, it's not like he's driving it around like that, jeeez. This car lends itself to air suspension and I really like full sized MB coupes and it looks like he has Lorinser (spelling) wheels on it and they look good to me.
They are actually Kleemann wheels and are high quality wheels design mostly for brake cooling but look great in general
or...it's dated as hell already.
before long we will look back on this "stance/oversized-wheels era' and say... wtf were we thinking.
+shaft9000 Yes we will.
+shaft9000 I've been doing that for quite awhile now
they aren't really oversized and since they look similar to the SLR rims they are pretty classy imo.
premiumposts.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/04/slr.JPG
One of the greatest cars ever built imo
Matt & Lorenzo, rolling in a Benzo
"Sorry this video is longer than usual"?
That was such a cool ride with such a cool mood from both of you that even if it was 60' it would still be a pleasure to watch.
Thanks and waiting for the next one!
A 20min one take talk about low and slow love that Benz
Moby's new track - Kaleidoscope Windscreen
or Aurora Borealis
acid
Am I the only one who doesn't like that steering wheel Mercedes put into almost all their cars back then?
SAME!
I swear thats the only thing i dont like about these cars
I guess for back then it was beautiful but yea compared to their steering wheels now they looked super dated
I didnt like the old wheel either
For me it was not, thats for sure. Look at the steering wheel of BMW of those years, they look very modern compared MBs Steering Wheel.
That AMG grumble is awesome.
So Moby owns a CL55 AMG..
Did not know Moby owns a CL55 AMG. He got old.
and there's nobody more suited for making music played at 12 year old girl birthday parties.
I'm not a fan and you shouldn't be either
my cl 600 has done 100000 miles with zero issues on active suspension. ...change fluid regularly and it's fine
A true masterpiece. One of the nicest Mercs there have ever been.
Where is the Adidas tracksuit and the gold chain?
Mikko Kaipainen CL500
Bro
Bmw🤣
Awesome video Matt. Love the CL55
That CL sitting lower looks amazing. Beautiful lines that now can be shown off. Wow, this mans car is awesome.
Regretting the Focus RS yet?
he sold it
lmao
After a month or two? lol
You know why he sold it? For the value of the car now, or what?
97aventador because he wasn't using it for what it was intended, he was just using it as a DD in traffic and felt he wasnt doing the car justice. something like that.
THE SOUND OF OLD 55 AMG !!!!!! LAWWRRDDD
dude kept it clean..very nice
Those Kleemann wheels look amazing!
the cl body is the sexiest car mercedes has ever came up with
great video. I am looking at purchasing CL 55. On a side note, the swirl in the sky reminds me of the teletubies...
I don't know if I'm in the only one… but I kinda prefer the older Benz model's (80's, 90's, early 2000's, like the CL above) over the newer modern ones…
Who else? ;)
Kev27RS same here. I have a 300d 1980 and a e320 1995. Love them both
Late 80 early 90s S coupes... The best
90s Benz are the Daimler-Benz genuine, original company. Around 2003 they joined with Chrysler and the build quality lowered. They are bulletproof.
While I prefer the '70s and '80s ones, I think the 2000s were a low point for MB. The S-class coupe is an improvement in every way over the CL.
@@box_of_rain5277 Same happened to Chrysler. They're so much better now that Fiat owns them
Not a fan of slammed rides , but it seems like a good solution for these cars with troublesome suspensions.
Gotcha ! Thanks for the correction
No, slammed means low. Static means permanently low. Driving static slammed is pointless as you will get stuck fucking everywhere, thats pure for show...

Nice car, at least the owner is honest about repair cost.
Pretty solid car! Easy to see why Ed Bolian used one for his coast to coast run. And those doors are super cool!

This guy is the best guest Matt has ever had, hands down
Eurocharge makes a transmission chip. Under $2000.
My 2005 came with Bluetooth.
His Info isn't in the description...
It is
Its is, *now* :)
Cool dude, cool car. Matt, what camera mount are you using - video is so stable?
FilmTools 6" three axis mount
Thanks Matt. Looking for something to use on an upcoming track day with the SLS. What I have now wobbles more than an American at Oktoberfest.
Woah, you're right. It's so stable I never even realized that that's not a trivial thing to achieve, especially with this suspension I can imagine.. Great quality indeed.
I got a 90’s RHD C class full OEM+ build, and mannnn this thing hits my soft spot
Did anyone else feel like they were on acid while watching this video? 😂
Hello Moby. Nice car.
When you google "Mercedes CL55 AMG" on images this car is literally the first one that shows up
Best car I ever owned, I still miss mine.
I've always loved cars but kind of fell away from it in recent years. The Smoking Tire has got me really excited about cars again. Really like the owner if this CL, and like always Matt... fantastic job with the review, very genuine &&passion
Where can I get the same airbags. I just got a cl 55 amg 24k original miles and eventually I want to get the exact system but I don’t know where to go. I live near la
Very tasteful look. Not over done with body kit and stickers. Nice clean car.
Dude has deep pockets mentioning buying a Panamera like it's nothing, lol. Matt giving the guy tips on the car before he sells it, Matt you are a good man.
same with big trucks. when I'm empty it's very bouncy and annoying but when I'm loaded it's a heck of a lot smoother.
I fuckin love these old AMG cars!
Nice owner and car great video. This guy reminds me of squidward from sponge bob but if squidward was cool owned a badass bagged benz.
What harbor freight o rings lol
People sell the kits on eBay but would be cool to get them myself
wow, trippy skies :D
0:49 "Freshy Fresh" - Matt Farah 👌
Owner knows hes stuff. Car looks to be in mint condition as far as the cars age is concerned, perfect match on the equipment, rims and body color. Sound and beauty in same package. Is there actually anything else to wish for except.. FULL THROTLEEEEEEEEEE!!!
8k repair bills.... on an 8k car.
This is why these amazing cars depreciated so fast. When the 2008 S550 was out, the 2004 S500 was 19000$
The cl55 is still a 20-30k car.
Same broke complaints from broke people who are jealous
that glass AMG logo in the boot is awesome!
That CL55 is DOPE!
You could get one of these for 9900$ and with some work have a car that was 120000$ new for around 11000$ all in!!👍 much better that getting a new 2017 CLA250 and saying you drive a "Mercedes Benz"... Yeah right your not fooling anyone.....
bags sound perfect for daily driving and some spirit drive...
I love benz, and the planned obsolescence in them is fantastic for folk that want em cheep!
It can sit in shops for weeks waiting on parts.
that car is so clean. it looks brand new
Miss my '02 CL they are notorious with their ABC problems. Its fav model and has tht classic design that wont be too dated
Seems like 'dope' has made it's way back into the world...nice car.
Chris’s response read my mind when he said “all motor.”
Looks so sleak when it's low 😍👌
ikr
or like garbage...depending on who you ask.
krodista Still looks sleek whether people like it or not though, I'm no fan of silly low cars but the CL was made for bags.
S Miller I like it and I don't live bagged cars
You guys forgot few things in terms of options. Wuddup with that fried sensor type flare on top of the video
Mercedes Infrared blocking windshield.
Ah, I forgot how fancy those things were lol.
LSD
polarized filter in the camera as well?
Mark Wicker it's called the southern lights.
Its fitting that Moby has a whale of a car.
i think the CL is the most elegant modern car ever made.
Amazing machine, amazing engine, idiotic suspension and wheels. I really don't get that scene of slamming and bagging and with huge rims...but hey whatever makes you happy. The 92-00 Lexus SC300/400 had a similar door hinge design.... (Luxury Supra! 2jz, non turbo)
Beautiful and amazing car. One of the best ever
that shadow of the cam man was cool
Clean. Sounds like a neat car to eat up miles of highway in comfort, class, and great speeds. Good job.
That is one nice cruising vehicle.
W220 coupe is most elegant mb , and personal favorite
i like the extra drive by shots!
Like the fact that this guy is instantly wanting to unload this thing. If you read the video description you will see the "FOR SALE" sign.
Even here in Germany which is flooded with Mercs this 2004 LC55 is a rarity.
There's something about this C class that looks like it could have rolled off the production line yesterday. Also I love it when cars have adjustable sogginess levels, it's a very luxurious feature :p
That car is pure class.
That car is insanely clean
the owner, great guy! and he knows his stuff
This was my dream car back in high school!
Always loved the CL, they sure don't make 'em like this anymore. Also not normally a fan of bags, but this car looks delish
Great video again!! Have you ever had any run ins with the cops? A blooper real would be great. Do you have any?
no, I don't have any. there wouldn't be much point to having great moments like that caught on film and then not showing them.
Awesome car, seems more like a cruiser than a canyon carver.
Don't tell me you like fagged cars. Are u a stancekid? Tell me you didn't ruin your gti?
Lol fagged out car..
Don't disrespect the JDM lyfe
no, I'm completely stock. Its my daily driver and I don't want to mess up its daily drive-ability.
+Stemsy He drives a german car tho
