Couple of questions about the coolant system: #1: shouldn't you also check inside the car to make sure the heater core is not leaking? Yes, it *should* drain out of the car, but the drain might be blocked. Also the interior might have a scent of coolant. #2: Even though the pressure check showed no signs of leaking, shouldn't it be checked for combustion gasses to make sure there isn't some sort of deeper issue that would only come about in extreme cases? There's evidence of "hard driving" (as intended, like you mentioned), so it stands to reason the engine has been run hard.

Pull the wiring harness from the trans, and see if the plug/harness are wet with trans fluid. If so, the plug (pilot bushing) needs to be replaced. That’ll explain some of the residue on the trans. At 129k it’s probably a good idea to perform a trans service as well.

@@yomomma4270 What are you talking about with the coolant consumption? Coolant consumption is nearly unheard of for this motor (both supercharged and non-supercharged). As for oil leaks, they certainly do happen, but are very easy and cheap to fix. I've had multiple M113 variants and every one has had leaks from the valve cover gaskets. It's a very straight forward fix and costs $30 in materials.
@@MotownModels I'm referring to the complaint from the owner who brought the car in. He seems to have lost some coolant. It had to have gone SOMEWHERE. And saying that every model you've owned leaked from the valve covers, makes your statement about this being "one of the greatest Mercedes motors of all time" sound kind of funny. No hate. @@yomomma4270 these motors are between 15 and 20 years old now. The parts that leak are simple rubber gaskets that can be replaced in a couple hours. I don't know of any performance engine that wouldn't have some kind of cosmetic oil leak after that many years. Rubber simply gets hard over time and thousands of heat cycles. Beyond said cosmetic oil leaks, there's really nothing wrong with these engines, and they are known to consistently put out the same factory rated HP now as they did 20 years ago. This motor is much more reliable than any other German performance engine from its era (BMW S85, Audi BCY V8) including the AMG M156 that came after it. In your eyes, what Mercedes motor is better?
If your German vehicle has a valve cover, oil pan or filter housing leak don't just assume gaskets are shots, you need to know the reason why they are shot. Sometimes a bad PCV or CCV can blow gaskets over and over again. Most of these BMW/Mercedes gaskets can indeed become hard after a couple of years but I always think it's 50:50 bad gasket vs CCV or similar.

The Car Wizards is the Pied Piper, and I'm the Hash Piper. I like to pack up the Hash Pipe with Rocky and get all schmoked up while watching The Car Wizards videos.
Schmoke it if ya got it lol
Aside from a few oil leaks and a bad sensor here or there, the M113 engine in this car is pretty much bullet proof! They take to mods (more boost) like a fat kid to cake 🎂 You can easily obtain 600hp + reliable 🐎 power without having to spend a crazy amount of $$$! This is truly one of AMG's best engines ever made!
Yup. I have an 04 E55 that probably needs those front lower thrust arms. Not too big of a deal. Also I think I spy Distronic cruise. Jealous. Impossible to find a W211 E55 AMG with it.
Not a flute! A recorder!
Signed,
A musician!
Three times not I've almost brought a CL500 but each time there was something like a Christmas tree dashboard , it sinking while I looked at it and the final on "the engine bay is really nice and clean" , Yeah the bits he couldn't reach with the steam cleaner not so much... When I find one its got to be throw away money.
I've been on the lookout for a sweet CL55 for awhile now. It is next on the list of rides to get
@10:38 OMGoodness!! In the background.😀
Such a beautiful car that I would Never buy!! Lol
At first I figured that was Rich playing the recorder but then I remembered all the recorder playing on Rich's channel is actually pretty good. Maybe Facetime lessons before the next video? I think the recorder would be a nice permanent addition.
I had one just like this.05 silver on black cl55.Good car
I wish this shop was near my house lol I trust zero mechanics.
I can hear someone screaming from the following video "Endless money pit!!!"
beautiful car. I wish I lived close to this shop, I would bring my car there to service.
I’m considering buying a CL65 AMG 2009. It’s the V12 Twin Turbo. Any views? Hi from South Africa 🇿🇦
It’s going to break your wallet open
I'm feeling lucky to have one of these, beautiful to look at and huge smile while driving it 😉
I have one too, the same year, but the darker gray. I love every minute I spend with it. It is beautiful and I enjoy just looking at it, a piece of art.
@@Rafymon98 Ive had mine for over 2 years and I agree with both of you. Nothing puts a smile on my face faster than pushing the gas pedal down, except when I'm walking up to it to get inside
CW - PLEASE keep that intro! Best ever.
@2:57 I bet that other shops didn't replace all those seals every time they changed the oil. Internal filters be they on cars or motorcycles always come with replacement seals and they should be changed at EVERY oil change but lots of people are lazy. It sure is easy to just pop the thing out and back in.
I used to own an 05 CL55 AMG. It was an incredible automobile. I drove it all over the US. I’d love to have another since mine was rear ended. They do eat tires though. Rear tires only last about 10k miles even if you baby it.
is it good for everyday use, i want one
@@buyiphilip I drove mine daily.
Is that a Ferrari 456 hiding in the background? Favourite underrated V12 Fezza. Video soon please! 👍🏻
Watching Mr Wizard is so much better than what's on the telly these days.
*I think the idea behind the flutes was that you were supposed to tape over your exhaust so that every time you start your car up or rev the engine, it starts playing a tune and some old people think theyre being dive bombed by stuka JU-87s*
Intro had me crying! 😂 I was ready to see Rich pop up!
Very informative wizards, thanks👍
I need a pied piper whistle for the fabric battery box on my Ram wizard. Something was nesting in there and left some peanut shell left overs. Hopefully the SOB stays away from the wiring.
I played recorder as my first instrument, then clarinet, home organ, a little bits of drums and synthesizer these days...
I had a 2000 CLK 55AMG with a Kleemann Supercharger. 3,300 lbs of Mega Beast! Mega Money Pit, though.
Nicest car ever! If you can afford the running costs, how about a V12 in the UK at $10 per (imperial) gallon.
If you play the flute you are a step away from playing sax bruh. Keep it up!
DIED WITH THE FLUTE 🤣🤣
Wizard gets his tool out pumps it up. Customer is satisfied 😲
I’ve had 2 CL500’s in the past. I absolutely loved them but the cost to keep them going was just too much for me. Such a shame because they’re truly stunning machines.
That Baby Girl needs a new drive belt too 💚
Coolant loss could be a failing cap, though you'd normally see deposits around the reservoir or on the inside of the hood, it's not always the case. If it's not been replaced in 16 years, it's probably worth replacing anyway.
I really like those super charged Merc V8's great power incredibly attractive noise through the exhaust, Rj in Oz
The flute killed me 😂 🤣😂 🤣😂 🤣
We need a “Wizard score” after all the quirks and features.
i wonder if he should do that, give his perspective from a mechanics point of view. Doug DeMuro probably wouldn't know how easy/hard it is to fix everything, how much it costs to do so, etc.
