i absolutely dispise the “well they’re not in jail so he clearly didn’t do anything wrong” argument. if you applied that to any other crime, so many terrible people would still be free. prosecuting sexual assault/rape cases is complicated. for a lot of places the statutes of limitations are really short, and not everyone is able to process things within that time frame. just because an abuser didn’t go to jail doesn’t mean what they were accused of didn’t happen

As a victim of sexual assault, I can attest that I talked to my abuser the morning after it happened because I didn't know it happened. I knew something off happened, but I didn't know the full scale of things.
I think a lot of victims of sexual violence feel like they need to keep the status quo in their relationship with their abuser. I see why Andrea did so.
    **Edit:**
I get replies to this comment a lot and it bothers me.
I don't expect sympathy / empathy from the internet, but remember: People process things so differently and because someone doesn't process something the same as you doesn't mean it didn't happen to them.
I was a scared 19 year old who had friends for the first time in my life. I didn't want my mom to know, because she was right about the people around me. I was humiliated.
I did what I did to get through the situation, even if it didn't make sense.
You can choose to believe me or not.
but I know my truth. The people around me at the time know the truth. That's all that matters.
I know myself now, I know my boundaries, and I know not to stay silent and let people take advantage of me.

I kept a close relationship with my abuser for most of my life. They were someone in my family and I treated them like a close family member. The abuse started when I was 7, lasted till I was 13, and it took me till I was 27 to realize that what they did to me was as disgusting and wrong as it is. That the fact that they were a “good person and family member” made it excusable. There are so many reasons why people still carry on relationships with their abusers and don’t tell a soul about what happened. BC was in a position of power, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg of reasons why the survivors didn’t come forward right away.

The most insulting and baffling decision was to even convict Bill Cosby in the first place. The amount of corruption from the judge to allow the court system to be politicized by the MeToo movement, along with illegally entering a sworn deposition as evidence and violating Cosby's fifth amendment rights, was appalling.
There is an hour long video of Tom Mesereau, the legendary lawyer who defended Michael Jackson during his 2005 trial, detailing everything about the Cosby court case, including the 60 unrelated witnesses (meaning those 60 accusers were not properly cross-examined).

It's not unusual for a SA victim to keep in contact with their abuser if they know their abuser beforehand, they might be scared to cross them incase they twist you to look like you're in the wrong, you feel like if you act like a victim you will be further victimised, so defensively you might even lie to yourself that you wanted it to happen. the victim might be so confused, hurt and horrified that they do all they can to 'justify' it, lie to themselves and try convince themselves that it was OK. Add drugs to that, recreational or being drugged and you're more likely to try act like it was all in your head, because facing the truth is horrifying, SA is a serious crime, it deserves a much heavier sentence, and not one you can get out of due to health issues and being old.

Similar effects, not to that extent, can happen with normal doses, especially if you've never taken it before. Honestly, anything similar to valium and elavil, usually some kind of mental health medication like anti-depressants and anxiety meds can produce the same results if enough are given. bill cosby changed the way i think. when the news started only talking about bill cosby. the 13 victims brave enough to come forward for the trial. for maybe 30 minutes after i first heard I was in denial. "nooo not him" and after letting it all sink in after a short time it hit me. f***. i still feel bad all these years later for being in denial those 30 minutes.
the whole thing changed the way i think. i have more empathy and understanding and am now still always allowing myself to learn. if it wasnt bill cosby someone so massive and universally cared for and liked... who knows who i would be today and so many others. its a scary thought.

I care, that's why I'm here. The issue is a lot more complex. The ambulance chasers and the false accusers have the upper hand. The pendulum might swing too far.

I have to disagree with your other statement though, 50 women almost certainly can and will lie. Im not saying that they lied in this case but that's a bold statement that ignores the countless times large groups of people have lied and caused the innocent to be killed or worse. 30 rock also had a joke that Tracy Morgan made AND Tina fey…. Like ten years ago. It was something like “do this or I’ll Cosby you”. It was the first time I’d heard that until all the other comedians came forward.
Not for nothing but part of this blame also is on all of the comedians and all of the people in the entertainment industry that knew full well what this guy was doing… and did absolutely nothing to change it except one guy made a joke. I mean come on here when are we going to start holding people accountable? And also why do we systematically put down all people of color in everything they do…but if any said person of color ACTS super white enough…then white America rushes to their defense?!
