  • Old Cowboy Movie: Comanche - Common efforts of the U.S. government and the Comanche nation to negotiate a peace treaty are sabotaged by renegade Indians and by the short-sighted Indian Commissioner.
    Comanche (1956)
    Director: George Sherman
    Writers: Carl Krueger
Stars: Dana Andrews, Kent Smith, Nestor Paiva
    Genre: Western
    Country: USA
    Language: English
    Release Date: 14 May 1956
    Filming Locations: Durango, Mexico
    Storyline:
Indian scout Jim Read is picked by his commander to set up a meeting between Comanche Chief Quanah Parker and a representative from Washington to negotiate a peace treaty. People from the Comanche tribe as well as the US Calvary have reason to prevent the meeting from ever taking place. Romance, betrayal and fighting ensue.
    Reviews:
"A decent western that might on the surface look routine with its cavalry vs Comanche story, however, there are some fresh touches such as when after the Indian attack on the Mexican village a curve ball is thrown when it's revealed that the Comanches are somewhat justified in their attack, plus Dana's character is the cousin of Quannah Parker. And though the action is lacking, the ending is quite tense when Quannah and his natives appear on the mountain, their vocalisation sounding eerie. Of course, what follows is a well structured action sequence.
The performances from the actors are good, but it's Harry Brandon as Black Cloud who steals the scene with his snarl. The dialogue is also intelligent, especially between Dana's character and Quannah." -Written by "coltras35" on IMDb.com

1.3 million views says a lot. As a grandson of Ukrainian immigrants to America, I can tell that by many movies of this era do not show racism or hate.
Very sad that so many Americans now feel the need to rewrite history rather than embrace the past good or bad and move forward. Seems to me that so many Americans only look at themselves rather than look into the native Indians and other cultures as a whole to determine what is right. To me it seems many now view their own rights for their own gain. America is only a nation made of many to me.
Government and its powers overwhelm the mind with ideas. People in general all over the world long for the opposite. Thankful for my family who taught me to love. I’m sure someone will dislike this comment. A very good movie that my grandparents would have enjoyed and likely did.

Beautifully said! As an ashamed American Texan descended from real cowboys, and 80 years old I agree absolutely. I have always felt this way. Some listen some don't. There are good occasions and good Christian, but there are also bad people who hide behind that mass and do terrible things to people. I'll tell you straight up. Welcome to America.🤙🏼🙏🏻

The terror from the "Establishment". The world over has been betrayed. They weren't really 'innocent' movies - they were telling us of the greed of the Americans who came from England who only wanted EVERYTHING. Same in Australia & everywhere the British went. India is lucky it got rid of them & China went through hell getting rid of them, the French & the Portuguese. The Earth belongs to the devil & he wears red.

I always felt the same! If we lived as the American Indian s there wouldn't be pollution of the land ,air or water! They had great respect for the land the wilderness and the wildlife! They only killed what they needed for food for a few days! White mañ was so gready!

    • @dennismckown4951

too bad we didn't learn the basics, that the native americans never owned the land, so how could they sell or give it away. that was the white man's concept. the white man never kept any of the treaties, once the government changed presidents, its seems the old treaties were invalid, but the new government never told the indians, and you wonder why the indians were always ticked off. i wonder if the white man is paying the leases on the land, they "rent" from the indiasns on their own reservation and that bs about the government keeping some money owed the indians for safe keeping. what i think is the government owes the indians "a lot of " money, they just can't pay it back, like if they did, the white man's economy would go belly up.

This motion picture was filled with adventure from its beginning to the very end. I enjoyed the acting including the comic relief; as well as the beautiful setting of the La Plata subrange of the San Juan Mountains of volcanic rock, trees, and shrubbery.
The ballad, "A Man is as Good as His Word", sung by the Lancers, added both a pleasant background recap and a moral unifying theme that we all would do well to consider when we make promises to one another in human solidarity.

Good western, Instead of creating reservations for our native citizens, our government should have used new & inspiring social integration policies bringing our people together into our great American society. I am part of both, Now, that America is desentergating because of our lack of vision, which is created by criminal world order ultra rich for their world dominance, many more autonomous regions will be created, which will spawn hostel chaos between them. Much blood shall be poured upon our grounds establishing & securing them, For how long only God knows. Blessing upon our people of thee American Republic.

this movie is a masterpiece for its time in the sense that it reveals more truths (remember that this is 1956 America) about the two governments (USA and Mexico), and their aims ... what it doesn't say is that the Comanches became one of north Americas largest tribe through necessity, forced on them by two governments that wanted their lands .... forcing them to conquer and absorb or assimilate many smaller tribes in the border regions ... the Apache being the exception to the rule ... but they did decimate them ... anyway, back to the movie ... some of its histories are semi-accurate ... like "white men" collecting scalps for money .... there was no way of telling whether the scalps were braves, women, children, or elderly, but they did get paid for each and everyone... warriors were who this archaic bounty primarily covered but any Indian, peaceful or otherwise, became fair game ... what a history you folks have ... sort of nazism before the nazi's

like every piece of territory that Europeans invaded/occupied/purloined, then tried to convert into little Europes, right around the globe, we fucked up by introducing animals and plants that were detrimental to the local fauna and vegetation, bringing parasites and animals that had no predators or foragers that kept them under control ... then we made out that the locals were savages, and "needed" our religions, wars, teachings, and preachings .... then we made movies they normally were portrayed as stupid, bestial, cruel, thieving, raping, conniving, .... and do you know what? ... I've been watching westerns since the 1950s, and this one I don't remember at all

Same as me, I myself have only european ancestors, and some people of my ancestors families went to US, Uruguay, Russia,… everywhere it was the same in some way. Indigenous people were treated bad and decimized or destroyed. One of my ancestors family made two children with a Cherocee woman, I think they were married, because the children got family name of father, the daughters first name was traditional from mothers side, son had european kind of first name. I don’t know, if that was normal?

Commanches were actually hated by other tribes. Before they learned to ride the Spanish horses, they were considered by surrounding tribes as what might be known in some places as depicables,, and they did not forget that. They didn't raid the Texas settlers just to kill, they wanted horses and captives who would be slaves, if not adopted into the tribe. However, they were pretty savage. But then so were the settlers. They also did many despicable things. It is pretty well recorded that the Indians were taught to take scalps by Europeans (the French) during the French and Indian War against the British. These were Tribes allied to the French. The practice spread.

Actually the idea that scalping was taught to "Indians" by Europeans is a commonly repeated lie that was promulgated to paint the "Indians" as "noble savages". I'm not saying that you, S. Al-Haddad, were lying but rather simply repeating a lie. I was taught this in childhood and have, myself, in ignorance repeated this lie! There is archeological evidence clearly showing that American "Indians" had been scaling centuries before ever laying eyes on a "white man". The Crow Creek massacre site, circa 1325 AD shows widespread evidence of scalping. The Comanches were THE MOST BRUTAL plains tribe and arguably the most competent on raiders horse back.
