+Drace90 You're right, I liked that they pushed Star Wars out of it's comfort zone with the Vong. About the new canon being "welcome"... Disney's creation of a new "canon" has really only served to further divide the fanbase. Now there are fans of the old canon (now dubbed "Legends") and the new Disney canon. For a lot of older fans, Disney's decision to ditch 35+ years of official continuity does not bode well, and then there are the casuals that will give everything a chance. Why? Because: Disney.

(Which strangely reminds me of some of the actual wars that are uneccesarily fought out there.) Let's be honest. The fanbase is broken anyway. I for one can't really blame LucasFilm for the idea to create this big but ultimately closed "old EU"-bubble for the ranting fans who are now more in the way than anything else. And at the same time they go forward with the franchise and build it up for the trusty fans who actually stayed true to the franchise and of course the new generation of Star Wars fans (or "casuals" as you put it) who are just enjoying the franchise like it should be. Hey, if the one true fans can't deal with the fact that the franchise isn't produced exclusively for them after forty years, I wouldn't care much about them either. Would be way to hard trying to satisfy the people who already made a huge fuss about the crossguard lightsaber or one of the main characters being black, a year before the movie even comes out.
"Butthurt"? "Overentitled"? Terms only a casual would use. Especially since the casual SW follower has no real stake in a reboot. They simply scrounge around every once in a while, not truly dependable to the franchise at all. You're... not a casual are you? The casual is fickle. Oh, and I think the words you're searching for are "angry" and "justified" ^_^. See, when you spend, time, money and brainpower following a beloved series for 30+ years you BECOME a little "entitled". Hey man, it's not our fault the douchebags at Disney made The incredibly LAZY and poorly thought out decision to push a reboot instead of remaining true to the integrity of the established canon of 35+ years. There are a wealth of characters they could have used from previous canon in a not yet told story, but alas, JJ possesses the magic sci-fi reboot button. Ep 7 should have brought new and old fans together, now it's only split them apart. When one has read books with characters that have been popular and official for decades and at the last minute get your hopes dashed to ever see them again, onscreen or otherwise, then you could MAYBE understand the fan's plight, but until one does, they're just a casual, a noob, a rank amateur pretending they know something about Star Wars. The only portion of SW fans I think fit the "overentitled" bill of the Star Wars fandom were the Original Trilogy fans, who basically are responsible for the mess we're currently in as fans. Lucas got tired of their incessant whining about Eps 1-3 and was just like "screw it" and washed his hands of it and sold out to Disney instead of Fox, which puzzled me... Most EU content was produced during my generation of the fandom and we tended to keep an open mind, but there were always OT fans who kept saying their trilogy was better than the other, when it's ALL part of the 6-piece story LUCAS authorized and wanted told. When he wanted people to expand upon his established universe, he had the EU. "...for the ranting fans who are now more in the way than anything else. And at the same time they go forward with the franchise and build it up for the trusty fans who actually stayed true to the franchise and of course the new generation of Star Wars fans (or "casuals" as you put it) who are just enjoying the franchise like it should be." Wow. It's funny how we "ranting fans" made Star Wars what it is, kept it alive during the 90's by buying the books and games and such, and suddenly we're "in the way" to be swept under the rug. That's fair. I wonder, what will become of YOU and your cadre of "trusty fans" in 20 years? If anything, stripping down the large intricate tapestry that was the EU is a lazy drawback as it takes away all of the lush story content and background characters surrounding the Star Wars Universe, and creates a disparity between two generations of fans. It's a disservice to fans of Star Wars everywhere. It's because of the casuals that Disney has become totally unoriginal in their desperate attempts to appeal to new fanbase, and passing it off as "new" like it wasn't done in the EU already. Only a casual would calmly lap up the same recycled story without realizing it's been done with the franchise before. You should know from other companies like capcom, what happens when you betray core fans of a franchise. It never ends well.
@@celestialspartan1176 How are they like orcs, beyond being warlike antagonists who are pretty evil? Last I checked orcs weren't religious masochists and technophobes.
Why didn't they arrive during the Old Republic? Those wars were far more massive in scale and many force users with tremendous powers existed back then. I'm sure a SWTOR Yuuzhan Vong story arc would've been interesting to see and how the Old Republic and Sith Empire will deal with them. They could also make it so that the invasion attempt was documented and passed down from sith to sith leading Palpatine to find out about them soon enough.
I remember Hearing About the Yuuzhan Vong a really long time ago In a galaxy far far away and thinking wow these guys look awesome I can't wait to find out about them in Vector prime. After reading books I'm all like What the Kark was that? It's something that fits into a hardcore Sci-Fi not Star Wars. I mean Star Wars is more of A space Fantasy to me that's whats always intrigued me and always will When disney announced The retconning of The entire EU I was sad and in my room for days yet I was happy the Yuuzhan Vong were no more.
Yuuzhan vong are fantasy.Literally, their lore is very unique and actually showed how massive the star wars world is instead of confined into one galaxy that always have a risen evil empire.
+Daylen Hartz No, its Canon. Disney buying the rights and saying its not doesnt make it true. The new film is just fanfiction with a military-level budget
+Vlad the Inhaler does that state there are a infinite amount of Parallel universes coexisting with our own on different dimensional plains and in each of these universes the reality is different from our own sometimes only slightly sometimes quite radically and every possible reality exists yes I know it.
+Robert Oortwijn The Galaxy united to defeat them and when Luke Skywalker killed their Supreme Overlord the rest of them either surrendered or basically banzai'd against the enemy. There were a few titanic battles along the way, when Coruscant fell to the invaders it basically saw 3,000 New Republic warships against 10,000 Vong warships and not that many ships from both sides survived.
Seeing and hearing about how the Yuuzhan Vong's weapons and battleships were all organic, made me think of the G I Joe 1987 cartoon movie, when the good guys had to fight bad guys who also used organic weapons.
Emilio Belisle Seems super goofy and not star wars in the least bit. Star Treck was all about the whole 'different races of space people ruling big chunks of the galaxy' kind of idea. 'Klingon Territory' and whatnot.
+Emilio Belisle regardless of how you felt it was very important in the star wars universe. A rated r film (or tv show) about the war would be phenomenal.
I mean, I would like to have the Yuuzang Vong to be canon and probably be in Rebels but they sadly probably won't be in Rebels because the Vong surrendered and went back to there home planet (I haven't watched Star Wars Rebels yet so I dont know what exact time period its in and I had another statement on why the vong won't be in Rebels but I totally forgot about it)
The Vong were one of the best things about Star Wars! People complain because they hate Timothy Zahn's idea of an enemy outside of the known galaxy. They also didn't like the fact the couldn't be detected in the Force like his ysalamir. A grown up more adult world wasn't for everyone either. They love safe children stories like Rebels. Which is totally fine. To each his own right?
Matt wilkins RA Salvatore got death threats for his contribution to the series. Specifically the killing off of a certain character. A grimdark star wars story clearly was too much for some folks to handle.
I'm The Heroic Protagonist and that's a shame. Salvatore was doing the job he was told to do. George approved the decision but Salvatore got all the hate. Thanks for the comment!
WTF? these guys were awesome? Snakes as weapons, living crab armor on them, best Star Wars villains hands down! IF they aren't in the new films, it would be tragic!!!
+Jason Malcolm Yea bro, sucks precisely why I hate Disney atm... And Lucas a little bit for selling his baby to them. We'll never see an awesome war like this onscreen.
The Yuuzan Vong are only immune to lesser force beings. Luke Skywalker in this trilogy is basically God. He said fuck that shit and used the force on them. Luke is literally God in the force. He killed Abaloth, and merged his body with the force it's self and became one with it. He became what Anakin was supposed to become. The force is a cosmic entity and Luke became one with it.
At first i did not like Yuzhan Vong. But when you think about it, they are the best thing about Star Wars: why did Emperor build Death Star and massive warships and vast armies? He already ruled everything he needed to - and against rebels a planet destroying ship is quite ineffective, you are just blowing up your own planet. Emperor built them to fight Yuzhan vong and their planet ships and vast invasion forces. Had rebels lost the war, galaxy would have suffered only small minority of losses they suffered in Yuzhan vong war. So who is the good guy? I love it when Star Wars is not good vs evil, that is boring kids tale. I prefer Expanded Universe`s more in-depth view of the force and good and bad guys. They also were the enemy Chiss and Thrawn prepared against. But again rebels (now Republic) stopped Thrawn from uniting galaxy under his genius command.
I always thought the Empire being actually a retaliation force against the future Vong invasion to be utter bullshit, an idea created only to justify the existence of the book series, but which also diminished the evil and threatening nature of the Empire.
For me what doesn't seem right is the new story Disney made now that looks shit, I hope I am wrong. Anyways why do people hate Yuuzhan Vong? Finally something that isn't killed in seconds by force sensitives or the same fucking story "Evil Empire rises from nothing with a sith as leader that wants power for no reason at all and the good guys win at the end".
If Abathur were there, he would breed a bunch of force sensitive and force resistance zerglings. Or enchance the Vong in some way with his skills of genetic modification?
it'd be awesome if they'd make a movie about this in the future, seeing them build up the new republic and more jedi and stuff and then BAM! outta nowhere JOHN CENA!!1... i'd watch it.
How are they more in line with Star Trek? In Star Trek most religions turn out to be aliens manipulating primitives with advanced technology. Also Star Trek always struck me as more peaceful and utopian (though I suppose that changed the more we got to know the Federation). Star Trek strikes me as a more atheistic less violent universe. Which is the opposite of the Yuuzhan Vong. Hell, I'd argue them not fitting is a plus; I think it's good to try putting in new forces every so often when you've got something as long lasting as Star Wars. Why must every war be jedi vs. Sith, with the occasional interlude with the Mandalorians?
I seriously wish the Yuuzhan Vong were canon or maybe the primary villain for a future movie or possibly a trilogy. If the Vong are as deadly and xenophobic as they're said to be, that make a really dark Star Wars story. And I know it's called Star Wars not Galaxy Wars, but I think Star Wars should introduce another galaxy, it be something never seen in Star Wars (canon anyway).
But if they got cut off from the Force for overdoing it, why didn't the Sith take the hint and restrain themselves a bit? Weren't they afraid that the same would happen to them if they went too far and caused too much suffering? Also, is the Force sentient now or what, to be able to cut beings off from itself? And why is the Dark Side regarded as evil, when apparently in the absurd Ying-Yang Lucas-verse its only purpose is to balance out the Light Side, thus making them both simply two sides of the same coin? And if that is the case, then "Star Wars" is rather illogical, because "war" implies victory, and by definition any significant "victory" would cause the balance in the Force to be tipped, thus countering the whole purpose of the "war" itself. HOW DOES ANY OF THIS MAKE SENSE?
They got cut off from the Force by their homeworld. The homeworld was sentient and it thought that the Yuuzhan Vong had gone too far since they started conquering their home galaxy after driving away two droid races that had previously enslaved them.
My favourite SWEU race, hands down. I know plenty of people hated them at that time, but they really could have been interesting adapted for film or animation.
I’m still in the hate phase, since in almost every single aspect of their design and character, the Yuuzhan Vong are pretty much a pure and shameless ripoff of Orcs from Lord of the Rings, and it’s like the Legends writers aren’t even trying to hide it.
Dear god, are there only two space opera works in the entire universe? How would the Yuuzhan Vong fit better into Star Trek? Their religion isn't the use of high technology, but prevades their society. Also they're highly warlike and masochistic. How does that fit into Star Trek?
The New Jedi Order series. Here are some links to the series' pages on both Wikipedia and Wookiepedia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Jedi_Order starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_New_Jedi_Order
+Paul Mackenan so the force is RACIST. And if thats the case, then how can darth vader use the force or a sith? And how can an object like a rock be pushed with the force? So the vong would just not be able to be pushed, or choked, or mind controled? But they can still be cut by light sabers tho right?
+Paul Mackenan so what even are the vong? They came from another galaxy? But they dont believe in technology? What? They have weapons and armor but they dont believe in technology, how does that even work.
I'm surprised they didn't go for this since this lore-filled story screams war propaganda and military funded propaganda that they will gladly accept with open arms
God what a horrible idea the Yuuzhan Vong were. Even ignoring all the dumb things about them, their design is TERRIBLE. Like ICP space orcs. Who thought they were a good idea?
Probably misguided writers who cannot distinguish force of Star Wars from generic comic book super powers. I am glad this is my first exposure to this abomination; also glad this generic comic book bad guy faction is not canon, and it should stay that way. This sounds like terrible fanfiction edition of Slaanesh cultists of Warhammer meets Star Wars? I can think of better versus sub-franchises than this cringe worthiness
Lol you guys havent even read it.The story was much more well thought out with much more meaningfull events then TFA and al, the new post rotj canon books combined.
+Ravenpy You cannot judge an entire story arc spanning *19* books on a barely 2 minute video. So much happens and so much is left out. And the Sith are more generic comic book than the Vong.

They werent.Unlike the fans, the writers and lucasfilm love the vong and were originally going to put them in The Clone Wars tv show but they decided to cancel it because it might ruin the whole suprise of their existence for the new republic. The EU was deleted because disney wanted to make their own stories and its due to them claiming "too hard to follow" aka their too lazy to learn the stories.

And at the same time they go forward with the franchise and build it up for the trusty fans who actually stayed true to the franchise and of course the new generation of Star Wars fans (or "casuals" as you put it) who are just enjoying the franchise like it should be."
Wow.
There's never been a better time for a collective of cinematic villains like this.
0:55 wasn't there a force sensitive yuuzhan vong female in one of the comics
The Yuuzhan Vong Invasion was a good idea for episodies VII, VIII and IX
I hate the Yuuzhan Vong, but I love your recap video on them
Ya, he should do a follow up video about the war itself.
No You what's so bad about them
More please. Maybe about the war they brought and the terms of their defeat.
Space Orcs!
Amadeus more like Space Orcs and Uruks.
They need movies or games centering around these guys and the war that raged because of them. Maybe a battlefront dlc?
Woah, brutal bro. Vong were always one of my fave species. Shame they barely missed the Clone Wars boat. #Legends4Life
I remember Hearing About the Yuuzhan Vong a really long time ago In a galaxy far far away and thinking wow these guys look awesome I can't wait to find out about them in Vector prime.
I Hope the Yuuzhan Vong War happens in episode 10 11 12.
There won't be any episodes past 9. And besides, it's non canon anyway.
+Daylen Hartz No, its Canon. Disney buying the rights and saying its not doesnt make it true.
The new film is just fanfiction with a military-level budget
+Vlad the Inhaler I wish that were true I love the Yuuzhan Vong War but I am afraid it's no longer cannon and I hate this.
Daniel Bertazzon
Are you aware of the theory of relativity?
+Vlad the Inhaler does that state there are a infinite amount of Parallel universes coexisting with our own on different dimensional plains and in each of these universes the reality is different from our own sometimes only slightly sometimes quite radically and every possible reality exists yes I know it.
How long did the Vong war last? How did the galaxy defeat them in the end?
***** Luke becomes the messiah.
+Robert Oortwijn It lasted only four years, and it was won through many sacrifices.
+Robert Oortwijn The new republic & imperial remnant teamed up
***** Also the Hapes Consortium, The Chiss Ascendancy, the Mandalorians and the sentient planet Zonama Sekot.
Yuuzhan Vong power!
I'm disappointed they are not canon.
+スーパーマン I'm not disavowing it. I'm sad that Disney won't show them on screen like they're doing with Thrawn.
Not yet
If you mean incorporated into Disney's universe, no thanks. We need them to be both separate but with Legends continued.
Yuuzhan Vong anti force? and zombie plague should be added in rebels ? or if they do an animation for after force awakens era ? be fun to see right?
Cold Flame, Same.
Very Interesting
Absolutely fantastic video!
Seeing and hearing about how the Yuuzhan Vong's weapons and battleships were all organic, made me think of the G I Joe 1987 cartoon movie, when the good guys had to fight bad guys who also used organic weapons.
Me as well
Video Idea: Dark Troopers
Yasssssss
Yuuzahn Vong nevered felt "Star Wars" to me. More Trekie than anything else.
Bioborg or something, yeah... Borg were still better even after they were ruined by VOY.
Emilio Belisle They were from another galaxy..
+Emilio Belisle I actually though the Yuuzhan where Orc's from LotR that had just got lost in SW
I mean, I would like to have the Yuuzang Vong to be canon and probably be in Rebels but they sadly probably won't be in Rebels because the Vong surrendered and went back to there home planet (I haven't watched Star Wars Rebels yet so I dont know what exact time period its in and I had another statement on why the vong won't be in Rebels but I totally forgot about it)
The Vong got me into Star Wars
The Vong were one of the best things about Star Wars! People complain because they hate Timothy Zahn's idea of an enemy outside of the known galaxy. They also didn't like the fact the couldn't be detected in the Force like his ysalamir.
A grown up more adult world wasn't for everyone either. They love safe children stories like Rebels. Which is totally fine. To each his own right?
Matt wilkins I agree.
+Matt wilkins They Prefered their Villains similar to the Sith or the Government they control.
01:31 He says Homeworld but subtitles says Unknown Galaxy. LOL
WTF? these guys were awesome? Snakes as weapons, living crab armor on them, best Star Wars villains hands down! IF they aren't in the new films, it would be tragic!!!
+Jerry Sepulveda They aren't. They aren't even canon anymore.
+Jason Malcolm Yea bro, sucks precisely why I hate Disney atm... And Lucas a little bit for selling his baby to them. We'll never see an awesome war like this onscreen.
+Harborx Disney's Star Wars is ALL About Anakin, His Legacy, & a never ending War between Jedi & Sith.
Conrado Javier Been done already.
The force is a cosmic entity and Luke became one with it.
how could have organic mass used for hyper space (or space, gunfire, laser at all)?
They look like chaos space marins in Warhammer 40k
I'm actually kind of glad the whole Yuuzhan Vong war and shit is no longer cannon, it was a total clusterfuck.
TheRomanRuler Wait so he built all of that just to destroy Yuzhan vong army? correct me if I'm wrong sorry just want to more.
Eduardo Cureno there's a theory that he might've sensed their incoming attack, so he prepared massive battle stations like the death star
TheRomanRuler i hate the rebels I am with the empire
Alex Armani wow so unique, you must be special omg omg omg yejakdnidjdjdjd
I always thought the Empire being actually a retaliation force against the future Vong invasion to be utter bullshit, an idea created only to justify the existence of the book series, but which also diminished the evil and threatening nature of the Empire.
Can you do a minute on Siri Tachi? She's always intrigued me as she was unorthodox, but never strayed from the light.
Yuuzhan Vong were gonna cameo in TCW
For me what doesn't seem right is the new story Disney made now that looks shit, I hope I am wrong. Anyways why do people hate Yuuzhan Vong? Finally something that isn't killed in seconds by force sensitives or the same fucking story "Evil Empire rises from nothing with a sith as leader that wants power for no reason at all and the good guys win at the end".
you are doing a great job!
The yuuzhan vong remind me of Reavers from Firefly
I really hope this war is canon, it could make a GREAT movie
It's not Canon
If Abathur were there, he would breed a bunch of force sensitive and force resistance zerglings. Or enchance the Vong in some way with his skills of genetic modification?
So that's what happened after the war ended.
it'd be awesome if they'd make a movie about this in the future, seeing them build up the new republic and more jedi and stuff and then BAM! outta nowhere JOHN CENA!!1... i'd watch it.
+P1Tz0N csgo Would be better as a TV show
I would love to see them come back in star wars
Yuuzhan Vong anti force? and zombie plague should be added in rebels ? or if they do an animation for after force awakens era ? be fun to see right?
these were the bad dudes in the first book I read years ago. lol exactly how I imagined them.
AWESOME!
There is one thing that makes me a huge proponents for the Vong, and that is its tie in to Star Wars: Legacy.
So wait if there force resistant does that mean push, pull, or lightning wouldn't work on them?
The only thing I like about these guys is the fan theory about Palpatine. Other than that they seem like some kind of reject Star Trek villains.
Studying up because I'm picking up memories from this past life. Taya Rickman and I were Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade.
I really hate Disney taking out things like Force Unleashed and many other things....but the Yuuzhan or whatever.....
Gravy TheGuy eh, I'm glad force unleashed is gone. We could have kept the old republic though
These guys felt more like Star TREK to me than SW
+Christopher Ryons Star Trek already has Species 8472 and they wanted to purge the universe.
The Vong just always seemed very villain-of-the-week to me and (to me, at least) didn't have a Star Wars feel to 'em...all I'm sayin'
That explains nothing. So is star wars just supposed to be teenagers vs a risen evil empire?
Please do a video on Bultar Swan!
You should do a video on Boba Fett from Legends!
They need to make a movie or tv show
But if they got cut off from the Force for overdoing it, why didn't the Sith take the hint and restrain themselves a bit?
Took me a while, but I grew to love them, one of my favorite races in the lore.
I’m still in the hate phase, since in almost every single aspect of their design and character, the Yuuzhan Vong are pretty much a pure and shameless ripoff of Orcs from Lord of the Rings, and it’s like the Legends writers aren’t even trying to hide it.
@@danielhowe6238And yet despite that, they're more original and more interesting than the First Order
This Yuuzhan Vong Creatures in Star Wars Looks like a Dark Eldars in Warhammer 40k
Hopefully they will be canon through thrawn in rebels.
Is this the species that were mentioned in the ASHOKA series?
Tolken should have sued them.
What does Tolkien have to do with this?
A lot more original than the Empire 2.0, called the First Order...
you had me at "organic"
(Badum crash)
I never liked the Yuuzhan Vong. They felt too Star Trek to me
+Michael Dillabough Species 8472.
Dear god, are there only two space opera works in the entire universe? How would the Yuuzhan Vong fit better into Star Trek? Their religion isn't the use of high technology, but prevades their society. Also they're highly warlike and masochistic. How does that fit into Star Trek?
OW THE EDGE
What book or story introduces the Vong?
The New Jedi Order series. Here are some links to the series' pages on both Wikipedia and Wookiepedia. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_New_Jedi_Order
starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_New_Jedi_Order
Cool--thanks!
Ok, who spiked the developers of Star Wars' tea with Warhammer 40k?
Why didn't he cover the exception vongarella? She was a female yuuzhan Vong sith.
so why didnt the force work on them. What. The force is for EVERYthing
What? They have weapons and armor but they dont believe in technology, how does that even work.
wtf isnt disney picking up on the yuzhang vong?
I'm surprised they didn't go for this since this lore-filled story screams war propaganda and military funded propaganda that they will gladly accept with open arms
Waaaaait do they have organic spaceships? Like an animal? Or that it's made out of organic material? Either way how does that work?
It's Control Room is One Huge Brain
think coral reef asteroids
Same way the Force works. Or having space dogfights. Space magic!
Imagine what the Vong would have thought of General Grievous
What if the Vong arrived at the time of SWTOR?
What books/comic books can I read to find out more about them? Thanks
the new jedi order saga
thank you
bizzy511 don't read it, read the new republic's saga
i will check it out. thanks
bizzy511 you are welcome! any LEGENDS question, formulate it to me please
These things are horrific and disgusting
And they not even the biggest threat that we no of this why I love lore
Their technology sounds like Species 8472 in Star Trek, using biological ships, rather than actual technology.
And they have skullface. Cause look so evil :D LOL
The Vong are my favourite Star Wars race.
Just imagine if these guys fought hell from DOOM.
I personally would love to have these people as the antagonists of the new Star Wars films instead of the first order
what do you mean to make amends star wars explained?
Trying to learn some about star wars lore but this just leaves me wondering why haven't there been any movies about the Yuuzhan Vong, would be increadibly interesting and I bet a lot better than the newest films cus they'd have a lot to go after
A second squeal about the Vong, is unlikely.
Would not be surprised if these guys were the reason the whole eu was deleted.
Blazer Hell what's eu? sorry I'm kinda new.
Eduardo Cureno a short term for "Expanded Universe" nowadays disney calls it "Legends"
These guys are pretty silly
Dr. Dill(do)
I'm pretty certain if Disney introduced a species like this everyone would be hating as usual
