I was a teenager in the 80's - heavily into electro- synth music - when I got my driving license I used to drive all night cross country listening to my favourite tracks on cassette tape - and where I lived there was a guy with a countach - so all these years later this music and the imagery resonates heavily with me - kind of bitter sweet - the hopes and dreams for me and the world that never happened but we thought was within our reach.
@@yeahx32p69 - From about the mid-1980s I think young people like me (living in a wealthy city in a wealthy country) were optimistic that our hopes and dreams of positive technological, political, economic and social progress would become reality in the near future. This was also a period of economic growth and opportunity so there was the belief that you could achieve anything you wanted in terms of career and money if you put your mind to it regardless of your background. This was the message the political and popular culture of the 1980s era was giving us and this was the message many of us based our hopes and dreams on - how much of the message was based on reality and how much was an illusion is open for debate (this is just my personal perspective on the era - obviously other people may have had a totally different experience).
@@liminal-m3g ohhh. Now I get it. It's understandable. America went through the same face in the 50s and the 60s. But then it also went through the broke 30s XD.
On stressful Friday nights when putting the Bangkok Post to bed, I discovered these mixes, and I found some sort of freedom in the flow. When all was said and done, I’d hop on a motorbike and cut a line through a blade runner view of the Bangkok night, then past the underside of canal city shacks, past the truck depot where neon karaoke bars and bored beauties lining the sidewalk waited to sing, and onto Rama IV to filter through the endless traffic jam. It hasn’t been a year since I left that crazy town to sink in the soulless swamp of DC. But I miss those motor-lit Bangkok nights, when the Aesthetic flow made sense, not just as a retro-futurists yearning for an imagined future that never came, but for the endless beauty of a now that can still be.
MrGrumpyGills That’s really kind of you. I am trying to get one book published right now and am writing another set in Bangkok. I’ll let you know. Thanks for the encouragement! May we all find love in and get love from what we do. Update: I published that book, it’s called Lana Walked on the Shore. The next one is set in Bangkok!
Working while listening to your mixes is the best, I get so focused it's freaky. I'm pretty new to Synthwave and I never thought I'd discover a new genre of music to fall in love with. Anyway, thanks for everything you do!
holy shit this is good. thank god you're back. took the bus the other day from frankfurt to London. 15 hours. listened to your mixes all the way, so soothing.
I love your vids in general...but I gotta say, this one specifically has allowed me to concentrate enough to complete a fair share of projects I don't actually want to do in record time! Cheers, and thanks!
Her feet rest on the glowing dash. Light stripes the cabin of the truck, like a wonderful game of hide-and-seek. She sighs loudly and grabs your hand from the wheel. You look at her quizzically. There is a depth to the color of her eyes that deny all other features; the road or the starlight, or the falsetto of passing vehicles onto wherever they go. You ask her what's on her mind, what the problem is. She simply shakes her head and smiles. "That's just it", she says to you. "I've never felt more...here...than anywhere before. Thank you." You smile back at her. The truck dashes madly forward into the future.
Hola, es excelente que ya estés dé vuelta, me alegra saber que estás bien. Y escuchar tú increíble imaginación y creación. Te extrañabamos. Por lo pronto deja viajar al pasado, Asthenic.

This makes me nostalgic for a place that I can picture in my mind, that I feel like i've been to, yet we aren't even there yet.

There are three certainties: death, taxes and amazing chillwave mixes by Asthenic.
