- Supercharged Episode 1
Quick overview of the current state of the car.
The car was originally picked up for $600 with a smashed front with 190xxxkms on the clock.
I built the supercharger kit for my old white Lexus is200 which can been seen in the intro footage. I had the kit left over when i sold the car so I decoded to add it to this one.
New engine mounts and a new transmission mount was needed to get it running. However, after doing that we had a flat spot in the rev range.
Looking closer into it we cleaned and checked the spark plugs, injectors and checked the fuel rail.
I had a feeling that it was the fuel pump and purchased a new one. After the install it was running great.
Hope you all enjoyed this. This is my project car and want to track it some day.
Next on my list is a short shift kit followed by coilovers.
Stay Tuned .

Love the Lexus is200s ....
Wow nice Work.
Original HKS and Button for Charging.
+NicoYoshimitsu thanks mate.
The supercharger can be switched on and off? While connected on belt?
Hi great video did u change any internals or is I still Standard ? Thanks hope you can help
Hey mate sorry for the late reply and thanks for watching.
No internal work was done all stock standard.
Hi man! I'm looking at this kind of set up, but I'm installing a lighter flywheel. Would it be smart to get an uprated clutch or will a exedy replacement one work fine? Hope you get the time to reply!
Hey bud thanks for the comment. A lighter flywheel would be a great addition. I had this on one of my other is200s which had a exert Heavy duty clutch with no issues whatsoever.
You will find that due to the addition of the charger that you will suffer from the “running out of gears” syndrome, due to being 50% more torque over NA. But it’s very fun. Hope this helps you out with your build.
@@Shackz00 I guess running out of gears is something I can live with... They're to long when stock! I know someone is busy modifying the s15 final gear to fit in an is200 gearbox. This will help alot probably
Correct they are too long without boost. However when charged you will find they can be short.
Shackz what is the supercharger clutch wired to? Your head unit then a switch?
Hey mate, the negative was wired to the negative terminal of the Battery. The Positive end was spliced into the cigarette lighter near the ash tray the switch was then spliced in between that.
Charger Negative > Negative Battery Terminal.
Charger positive> Switch> Power of the Cigarette Lighter.
For the positive wire you will need to run it through the firewall, was a little tricky, I used a coat hanger and pushed it through the firewall grommet that was located near the passenger side. You are able to see the grommet with wiring harness coming through the firewall from the fuse box in the passenger side kick panel.
We wire the charger to the Cigarette lighter so that when the car is off the charger will not draw power from the car and when the car is in ACC mode then it will be on.
Any issues with the throttle body? Apparently, the standard IS200 Electronic throttles limit the opening in 1st gear below 4000RPM's. Did you reprogram that with the new ECU?
Hey mate. The is200s have a cable run throttle. I haven't had any issues with it in first gear. However due to there being alot more torque you run through the gears fast. Easily able to start driving from 3rd gear if you needed to.
The piggyback I used was to adjust the fuel mix to a better ratio for the added air.
@@Shackz00 Awesome, Thanks for the reply!
hi shackz, would the same build work for an is 300 and how much HP can be expected?
Hi mate. Same build won't work for a is300. The is300 have a 2jzge motor and the is200s have a 1gfe.
Your best option is to convert your na to a na-t (turbo) getting a turbo kit for it. As for power figure, I can't be sure. If you get a turbo kit for your na get it tuned and dyno'd. Hope this helps mate.
Hey mate i mount this kit i dont know where is the dumpvalve lol.. thanks for help
yo, sorry for the late reply. Dump valve is optional. However you will need to run a recirculating Bypass Valve. I added the Blow off valve before the intake for the whooshy sounds. =D
I very like this video, could you tell me m62 supercharger mount size measurements, this mount is very hard to buy, thank you
+Yeh Eric Hi mate glad you enjoyed the video. Im sorry but I dont have the measurements for the cradle/ mount due to me buying it online.
There may be some floating around on facebook. Go over and join the "Lexus is200".
Without ".
Il have some after xmas mate as im having some fabricated
Hey man sweet vid!
I recently supercharged my left leg and used it to kick my Nan down the stairs! That woman’s an idiot I swear to god, anyway the cops were called and apparently I have to serve time which sucks, but cool vid!
As long as you haven't got any boost leaks you'll be fine.😉
Shackz made sure to fix that as last time I tried I almost had a horrible accident myself, however this time with the leak under control I was fit to send her into hyperdrive
How did you do it on the switch mate , solenoid maybe ?
Hey, thanks for your question.
For powering the supercharger- I used the cigarette lighter which comes on with the 'acc' and ran a wire with a switch in-between cutting the circuit.
Simple set up.
@@Shackz00 thanks as I want to get the car threw mot and I was thinking if I cud turn it off on a switch or button wud be so handy 🤣🤣is the fuel mix still be ok wen turned off. Thanks 🙏
Nice work! How did you re-map the ECU? Can you explain? Thanks!
whisky6 Hi mate, the ecu was using a piggyback ecu called Patrick’s Black Box this can be found on eBay.
Shackz cheers! mate
Shackz hm.... i can’t find it on ebay, could u drop me the link, please?
Whisky6 Here you go mate, www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-IS200-PL-Black-Box-FCD/302599977124?fits=Car+Make%3ALexus&hash=item46745d38a4:g:mB8AAOSwAYtWQ1R2
Great thanks! Shackz
1:52 on/off for supercharger?
Sounds like eco mode.
Yep. So it doesn't annoy the neighbourhood
Hi mate what is the navara pulley on the water pump? And where did u get the tte cradle from? Struggle to get 1 in the uk! Rough bhp also ?
Hey bud, I got the Nissan Navara Pulley from eBay, it attaches to the water pump and thats how the supercharger is driven, Via pulley on the water pump driven via belt. Might need to space it out with a washer though.
The cradle was from eBay however there is someone who might be able to make you one up on Facebook. The group is called "Lexus IS200" without the " - Just ask around and see, there might even be a kit ready for sale too. The group is based in the UK might have some luck there.
Other various parts can be sourced through your local Auto shop or online.
Rough power gains are, 156KW @ 6200rpm 209bhp
Torque gains are roughly, 250Nms @ 5000rpm
So i see u have the tensioner too? Where does that fit to, on the cradle?
Lots of people say the bypass valve isnt nessesary just use a dump vlave but you have both?
+Matt Iles the tensioner is bolted to the cradle yes. To adjust the tension on the belt as you probably noticed.
A bypass valve has always been used even on the factory engineered kits from TTE. On a factory kit the bypass was fitted next the the charger controlled via the throttle cable. Closed when under load and open when off the throttle.
Recently there has been alot of talk about using a single BOV to do the work of the Bypass.
The bypass recirculates the air releaving preasure build up in the line and on the throttle body. A single BOV can be used but can be bad in the long run causing damge to the throttle body.
I am running the bypass valve to recirculate the air and the BOV just to make some nice air release sounds.
Shackz where have you put the vacum line for the bypass valve does it matter on its position? Or just make a hole in the intercooler pipe work?
Also is the inlet and outlet from the merc no good then? Hence why u made up custom, surely there only plastic pipes as standard? Cheers
+Matt Iles The vacume line (small thin hose) is off the underside of the throttle body. You will need to cut it and add a T piece vacume hose to run a vacume controlled bypass such as the mini one. If you have a T join in silicone or in aluminum the its better then cutting into it however what suit your build.
The inlet and outlets on a factory TTE kit are made from some type of metal to my knowledge and formed to enhance airflow. The ones i have made are just flat plated metal with 2.5" metal tube welded.
The inlet and outlet from a merc could be modified to fit but it depends on the design of your cradle. There isnt much space after putting the outlet and connector pipes in near the exhaust manifold. Hope this helps.
Hi mate from uk, I have standard is200 I am falling in between turbo and supercharger, so what is better and less costly, also how much power does the supercharger put in, andine is 4 speed auto will that have any effect and would it be safe and relible to take the extra power or do I need manual for this.
Hey mate. Everything these days are very costly. Charging would be most cost-effective if your not wanting it in a rush and you can source parts cheaply. That also goes with turboing.
I went the charge route because it seems more reasonable for me due to alot of the parts are direct fit from other manufacturers using them parts.
As for power. You'll get more torque out of the charger about 50% more. And moderate gains to hp. Turboing would have better gains but more lag.
If you want better power sell your is200 get a is300 and turbo that.
@@Shackz00 yeh I get the cost side obviously both would cost either way, thing is I have is200 because one its alot alot cheaper on insurance for me here in uk as is300 insurance is very high and also they are hard to come by now days quite rare here, hence also I'm not looking to have tons of power somthing more like between 200-300 around 240 is decent as these engines can take upto 300 on stock, IS300 is good for having over 300hp then it's worth it as there wouldn't be point of having is300 as it comes with around 200hp stock and as I just need a daily car with either turbo or charger making good sound and power is200 is good for that.
Yep I get ya. I dailiyd my is200 easy. O popped in a switch that engages the charger clutch so it's not loud in my neighbourhood. You can get good power for a daily. About 210hp with a standard 140mm pulley. Larger than 150mm you'll need to do injectors.
@@Shackz00 yeh I was looking online at the full kit for turbo and it was between 1500 to 2000 depending on company and size etc etc, that's average I got, for supercharger it was around 1900 quid as well so both seemed same, but im more worried about how to put all that on the car I do work on my car my self but never done such big job as I do want to keep cost down and not pay labour to install everything, as my dad is full time mechanic so tools are no issue and he can help me too
If you familiar with turbos and fitted a few before it'll be easy. Fitting the supercharger kit is ways easier.
But again if your buying in a kit it's always pretty easy. The r & d has already been done.
Hi man, awesome video
I just bought an m65 supercharger and going to install it on my Lexus is200.
Is it possible to get a list from all the things u used to get in working? Struggle to find a lost online.
Sven S thanks! Means a lot!
I will get a list of parts used for the kit and post it up for you.
@@Shackz00 you really helping me out man thanks!
Hi mate, sorry for the late reply however here is a list of parts used for the DIY build
TTE Supercharger Cradle- can possibly be purchased online, eBay or one of the facebook groups
Eaton M62 from a Mercedes SLK230 - custom inlet/ outlet manifolds made for the super charger.
Patriks Black Box (ECU) - off eBay
Intercooler - Apexi Delta Fin - I opted for a larger intercooler just because we have higher temps here in summer.
130mm pulley - Nissan Navara D40 Pulley, Holes may need to be redrilled out to suit bolting up to water pump - However there maybe someone manufacturing the correct pulley now days.
Tentioner - Supra Tentioner
Bypass Valve - Mini cooper S Bypass Valve
Belt Belt PK5x800 (based on 130mm pulley)
Piping stock kit comes with 2.25" all the way through, I opted for a 2.5" I would suggest sticking the the recommended piping size this also applies to the silicone hoses
Silicone hoses- Various
Again hope this helps mate.
all the best with your build.
Thanks a lot!!
Sven S hi hows things? Looking at getting a supra tensioner for my own super charger build by any chance could you post a pic of fitted to your car please?
Hey mate,
Where did you connect the vacuum line of the bypass valve to?
Hey mate the vaccine line has to be T pieced in from a vacuumed hose coming from the underside of the throttle body.
Shackz Cheers mate!
So i guess u cut into it and place a 3mm t piece? What does the vaccum look like?
Shackz i sent u an email mate of whAT i suspect to be my vacum line on the right of my throttle body please confirm lol
Hey mate, I replied to your email.
What's the purpose of kill switch for the supercharger anyway the supercharger is being coupled with crankshaft as fulltime, what's the point,
From what I've read the supercharger has a built-in electromagnetic clutch which can be turned on and off.
Correct. The switch turns off the magnet. The assembly still spins freely whilst disengaged.
Hi mate do you have any pictures of the inlet and outlets u made as il be starting mine soon
+Matt Iles Hey mate ill put it up for you and others over the weekend you should be able to get them on Monday.
Shackz thanks mate seen any cradles pop up anywhere? Having to have one fabriciated and cost could be well up to £800
+Matt Iles wow rhats really expensive! Especially when Im converting that to Australian Dollars. Well ill see how i go some might turn up. You'll be the first to know mate.
Shackz cheers mate, absolute nightmare to find even if u find 1 in oz i can have it shipped over
Matt Iles no worries champ.
Can anyone send me a part list for the tuning on my Lexus is 200 1gfe
Hey mate I'll definitely make a video and have a link to the list.
How did u wire the supercharger clutch
Hey mate I wired to positive to the cabin cigarette lighter so the clutch will engage when the ignition is on. And the ground was run to the negative terminal of the battery.
Hope this helps mate.
Thanks for the help that's easier than wiring a switch
@@mikxxtxxin Your welcome
how much it cost ?????
Similea Razvan cost roughly 1900 Australian Dollars to build the kit.
Shacks mate did u have to modify the pulley to get it on? Like redrill it etc 301430881722 this is your one yeh?
Or is it this one 182970947126
Hey mate, yes there was modifications to the pulley however the one you linked me is the incorrect one. the one you should be looking at is dished and flat on one side.
@matt Iles looks like this one mate. 152766458817
stock internals?
Hey Mika yep all stock internals.
Wow that's amazing.. and how much power you got with all those modifications? ???
mika jones hey mate approx increase in torque and hp of 50%
how much bhp does the f sport badge add?
500bhp dude =D
excellent!
all stick on power enhancing emblems aside..............nice build..........looking to do this myself.
also, how is the nissan pulley attached to the oem pulley? some say you have to drill and tap it yourself?
The waterpump studs should be long enough however sometimes this isnt the case and needs longer ones =D
is that it! LEGEND!
Shackz mate is this the same as your charger 202123243107
Type that into ebay search
Hi Matt, sad to say yes it is/ Was...
Shackz thats ok mate at least i know the dif between the m62 and the m45. Also i managed to gdt a cradle and im gona be selling them on ebay so other people dont struggle like i did to get 1
Shackz also mate ive got sumin for u to look at in regards to boost pressure. Il email it to u
Sounds good mate Ill continue to make videos just have to look at another car at the moment. Sad to see her go but it was time.
