Wonderful tutorial, I've ever thought in doing an under painting like this in watercolor. It is a very interesting technique and a great way to get better results in my paintings. Thank you so much.
do you put the complements of what you are going to use in pastel for the underpainting or do you put the same colors? It throws me off because I am not used to it..ty
I've never seen a watercolor under painting done, so thank you for that! I have several sheets of 400 grit UArt paper that has curled somewhat. Any clue as to how to get it flat again? (I've had it compressed with weight on top, which has had no effect). Again, thank you for the tutorials.
Venomous. The snake was venomous, not poisonous. (If you bite it and you die, it was poisonous; if it bites you and you die, it was venomous 😂) So cool, I've never thought of using watercolours underneath pastels. I have used coloured pencils over the top of both alcohol markers and watercolours but never thought to try pastels - I will have to give it a go!
Hi Alan, I had a quick question. What type of pencil did you use for sketching in the composition before you started the underpainting? Was it a standard lead pencil?
Thank you. Bought a used set of watercolor and will now try using as underpainting for pastels.

Alain Picard has a separate video on his RUclips channel about mounting UArt pastel paper to board so that it remains flat.

Whether the rock hits the pitcher or the pitcher hits the rock , it's going to be bad for the pitcher!

He uses vine charcoal, you can see it on his RUclips channel.
