First Dallas cliffhanger I saw live as a kid. JR was a below average fighter. But he sure rose to the occasion in life or death battles. This one and the fight in the S11 cliffhanger.
JR could fight he just always chose not to unless he had to. He knocked out Ray when he had to he knocked Clayton down the stairs when he had to he even took on Bobby in season 5 episode 1.
I remember seeing the next season continuation where IIRC another upstairs alarm is sounding along with the one here. I have an interest in smoke alarms and was unknown how I found out, no one in the family was a dedicated Dallas fan. Probably found it by coincidence. And ICYWW and you give a #&** the alarm featured here is a First Alert SA120 with a different bulb in it.

Yeah, J.R. can pack a powerful punch for a wallop when necessary. By the way, it was episode 269 of Season 11.
J.R. actually threw Sue Ellen's boyfriend off of a hotel balcony, and Sue Ellen shot him. He also gut punched Dusty Farlow when Sue Ellen was in the sanitarium.
How convenient Teresa and Raoul happened to leave Southfork before it burns. I guess they didn't want to pay for the cost of having Roseanna Christiansen and the actor who played Raul to be on location for the outdoor scenes as everybody evacuated.
How many times did Ray beat J.R.'s ass during the series run? Funny because in early episodes, they used to hang out in bars together and pick up women to screw.
Does anyone else besides me think that Dallas tried to copy the Dynasty Season Finale Cliffhanger for that season? The Dynasty season finale for that year aired the week before this Dallas cliffhanger aired. Alexis & Krystal were trapped inside a burning cabin.
Absolutely! Both shows were at the height of their popularity and they were vying for the top spot. I think the writers definitely tried to “out do” each other. Unlike Dynasty’s intentional cabin fire, this Dallas fire was an accident due a much-needed brawl and spread instantly. The stakes were so much higher with Sue Ellen and John Ross in bed asleep.

This scene was just badly done. You can even see the set wall move at one point. The fight was cheesy and pointless, and as some others have pointed out, the candles were never lit before on that table that conveniently starts the raging fire that no one notices. Also, why on earth would you have lit candles around flammable materials??
That was laughably bad. I thought Ray was meant to be tough. Why was he rolling around with him - or more accurately their doubles were - and then JR taps Ray on the beam, twice, with a phone and he's out cold... haha!
What person in their right mind would leave candles burning unattended around things like paint and paint drop cloths? And as someone else said, with the money they had, why would they not stay elsewhere like a condo or hotel during a renovation like that?

People make such a big deal of the fact that JR "won" this fight. Push that phone a couple of feet to the side and he's dead, just as he would have been had Bobby not saved his ass when Ray caught him with Garnett McGhee.
Any and everybody knows that typically, to make the FIRST MOVE in a fight was NOT JR's CHARACTER, but clearly they used JR throwing a candle to start the fire???? The writers could've done better than that. JR's been threatened & even hit by others and it still took a while for him to react, & suddenly HE makes the first move after Ray threatens him? 🤣😂😂🤣 This didn't fit JR at all.
