About breaking the system... I was set on the task of modding my friend's NES Classic, the 2018 re-release. I used the the original Hakchi2, which I used on my own NES Classic (the 2016 release)... BIG MISTAKE. It worked fine on my NES, but it broke my friend's. I couldn't get it to work even if I installed the original kernel. It was BRICKED... or so I thought. Then I read online that the second release of NES Classic came with a few structural changes, and that Hakchi CE would fix it. Said and done... I installed Hakchi CE and hooked up my friend's dead NES Classic. I didn't even have to do anything. It detected what was wrong immediately, and ran the repair. The NES Classic worked again, as if never broken at all. I love the guys at Shinkansen.
Hi Patton Plays thanks for making this video. After ruling out any possible usb cable/driver/av/firewall issues etc. I was still having a hard time getting the mini to flash successfully on v3.8.0. After disconnecting from the internet it worked like a charm. Once flash is done you can then reconnect to the net and scrape box art. Just wanted to mention this for anyone to try that is having issues as well. Cheers and hope it helps!
1 issue i was having with hakchi was that it would also say that it was taking too long. so i turned off the mini, disconnected the cable, and closed hackchi completely. then i restarted the program again, plugged it back in and followed your steps again and it worked. sometimes a simple, on/off try again approach is applicable.

Other than that it was a piece of cake just as you showed. Thank you.

The TG16/PCE mini uses almost the same SOC and board from the Genesis mini so it shouldn't be a big deal for MadMonkey, the only thing I've heard is that it is risky to change controllers while the turbo is on and apparently it fries the usb port but I am not sure if this is accurate.
Thanks for all the information -- I've been very happy with what I've been able to do with the Sega Mini through Hakchi. Instead of paying somebody 30 or 40 bux to send me a stick full of 7 or 8 hundred games, many of which will not work with the emulator designed for the system, I'm able to curate a more user-friendly collection (a sandisk cruzer 32Gb drive will hold around 250 games which to me, is enough). I had to spend hours play-testing but I can say that at least 80-90% of the mods for sega genesis do work with hakchi 3.8. Right now I'm just keeping this system dedicated to Sega products, but I'm interested in perhaps running Master System or Saturn games on it. But I'm aware of the complications with Saturn.

Finally got it to recognize. It didnt see tje games I already had on it from a previous hakchi version so I lost 30 games. Also I cant install retorarch or any cores. Im on windows 10.
Hi Patton, thank you very much for all your videos. I was wondering if you could help us with a video explaining how to import or install SNES MSU files to the SNES mini, please. That kind of games are the ones that are modded with orchestral music and videos. Some of them look and sound really nice. I hope you can help us. Thank you very much for your support and efforts.
Is there any way to assign systems en masse? It'd be a bit tedious to go through hundreds of NES games and tell it which core to use for each. Something that auto-detects the proper extension would be much simpler.
The last update (3.7?) removed a bunch of cores from the retroarch store....luckily i had a backup of the old one on my external drive (and could till get said cores)....won't be updating, i've learned my lesson (also, the old one worked just fine...these new features don't change much, unless you're really picky with your menus). I say the say thing with say youtube or facebook....why keep 'fixing' things when they're not broke (ESPECIALLY when the older version was better)?
Funny this video came out today. Just a couple hours ago I used the new hakchi to load TG-16 games on my NES mini since im not sure when I'll be able to get the tg16 mini
Just order it from Amazon Japan. I did a couple nights ago and I'm getting it the 14th next week here in Arizona. Just go to the site and use Google translator to change to English and order.
Had mine exactly as i wanted then got a message that says.." this modded system is not for re-sale..you was scammed" ..obviously not nint€ndo, All my snes games now have a C7. Error when i try to start a game even tho they ran perfectly before, any fix for this?

I went back to version 3.7. After updating, I noticed that the image on the Sega Genesis Mini is blurred with the CRT filter just like the original UI. In 3.7 even using scanlines, the image is very vivid. Is there any way to resolve this in this new update? I want to use the m2 emulator with more image quality ...
I use Usb storage for my SNES and megadrive mini with Hakchi. Meta datas a big update so how best to get updated? Should I just plug the USB into pc and sync games for meta data update also hope it doesn't change my pal covers 😬
So I didn’t get a USB cable with my NES mini, and I don’t have any USB ports on my NES mini. The only thing I have is an HDMI-OUT and a DC-IN. The only cable I got with it is an HDMI cable. Am I still able to add games?
Im super hesitant to try because I bricked my snes mini once before. I had to have someone on reddit give me a kernel. I have no idea why it wouldn't work.
Make sure to format with the Default Allocation size (at least with a cheap PNY type drive) and always eject the USB drive. It will eventually corrupt otherwise.
Hi. Love your vids and did wonders to my PSClassic. But I do need help how to fix my SNES mini back to At least stock. I think I bricked it. So hope you read this and help if possible.
With the NES classic now selling for $180, does anyone know if this will work on the $30 knockoff versions for sale? Obviously you wouldn't need to download the images of the games since it is just a list but can you put different roms on those versions?
Great work man! I've got a Wii classic control en route, anyone have any luck using one of those for Seg and SNES games? Also, it looks like CE 3.8 has all the stock ROMs or these systems already available?
Great tutorial thank you. One game I'm unable to get to work is Street Fighter Alpha, I tried switching emulators but no luck. Street Fighter Alpha 'does work' on my Nvidia Shield but not on my SNES classic. Any advice? much appreciated!
I got the Super mini SN-02- Does this work process work on this? i'm having a hard time figuring out if this is considered a "classic" and if this process will work with my console. I've never done anything like this before and would love some help!!
Hi, I followed this tutorial and added NES and SNES games, but once I connect the sega to the TV I dont see any of the games. Can you help me figure out what I did wrong?
What am I doing wrong.. I can play all the extra nes games I put on my nes mini classic but no other system s game will work. I select the right console and core. I try every core it will not work. Up by the structure dropdown tab do i change it from nes? Please help I either get a blank screen for a second or a c7 error
I have a Q. Let's say I have HCE 3.8.0 installed and all my smaller roms exported to USB. I watch your video on adding PSX games and it was a lot of work my hat is off to you. COULD I JUST copy my PSX bin and cue files to the USB and find them in Retroarch? OR do they REQUIRE that I export them with HCE 3.8.0 for Retroarch to see them?
Okay so I was able to add Nes games and they work. I was able to add SNES and Genesis games but I get c7 errors when I tried playing them. The boy art came up with most of the games when I synchronised them. What did I do wrong? 🤦♂️😩🙄😂
I never used hakchi before, downloaded version 3.8.0 but when I plug my NES classic (first release), nothing happens. It stays "waiting for your mini". I tried with 4 different USB cables, makes no difference.
Is it possible to access mame menu to adjust game difficulty using snes mini controllers. If not maybe put in a button combination in future update would be very helpful in regards to the enjoyment of these games.
@@PattonPlays Thanks for the reply. A short video upload to demonstrate what you mean would be much appreciated and also clarify whether it is the same menu that is accessible by pressing the tab key while using mameui64 on the PC.
Hey pat nice work. Can you help me on this one? I'll be unboxing my new snes and nes soon. In your older videos (and hakchi versions) you showed us that we need to flash the custon kernel. Do we still need to do that and if yes does this procedure erase all factory games that comes with nes/snes? Remember the consoles are new. Thanx
So, when adding multiple consoles like this, what about folders within the console folders for when you add too many games for one particular console to go in one folder? (Like for this video if you woulda had like 100-300 NES games) How do you do that additional organization since the NES classic only recommends having 45 games maximum per folder?
Hey pat been having this issue for sometime and been doing a lot of research and I have not yet been able to get a solution any help would be great. So my snes mini I haven’t had mod for a while so I went back and uninstalled the hackchi and decided to dump my kernel this is where the problem comes in it would dump the kernel fine until it hits 92% then for some reason the hackchi would pop up a message saying that it taking to slow and then it would abort my operation. I’ve tried ten different micro usb and used all my available USB ports and still can’t dump my kernel for the snes mini. Any help would be great thank you.

Since a few days Google Search option (to scrape Cover and spine artork) doesn't work anymore in Hakchi 3.9.1Anybody else with this problem and is it possible to fix it? A Google Update can be the problem....
That's cool, so when you add genesis games it automatically puts a description about the game in Hakchi? or does this happen to any game for any system? I have the whole library of genesis games in Hakchi but I added them before the 3.8 update. Should the description of the game/s automatically update when I update to 3.8 or do I have to manually type them in? I notice that the description of the game/s didn't update. It is nice that you can make the Hakchi window fill screen now & there isn't an info & artwork tab anymore. That was a bit annoying to switch back & forth
@@PattonPlays Thanks Patton, so just delete the games & re-add them? I will try with a few games before doing all that. Thanks again. Always looking forward to the new content & videos on the channel.
I'm in the same boat as you. I've been right clicking on games and using the scrape option to get the description info. I had to un select the image options it chooses since mine are typically better. Also, keep an eye on the title of the game. Sometimes they are different than the title of your rom and when you select it, the title will change. For Japanese titles, I usually highlight the title and copy it, so if it gets changed, I can delete the new title and paste the old one again. Also, you can select multiple games at a time to scrape by holding shift while clicking on the games
@@TruMusicLighting I've also found that sometimes nothing come up when you scrape. In that case, I copy and paste the game title in the search box below the images(delete the ID number first) I've managed to find every game I was looking for that way

Can you please make a video on how to solve power issues with the Super Nintendo Classic Edition such as random shutdown?
Is everyone having the experience where the game description doesnt fill the description box on the genesis mini correctly? I'm noticing the description is all on one line, and it displays about 7 words and the rest isn't visible on screen.
Update: I ended up reinstalling hackchi on my system, and the issue is resolved now. Everything displays as it should
Finally got it to recognize.
Is there any way to do this with an Apple computer?? iMac
I like the hackchi so much more than using project lunar for the Genesis mini
Awesome man I'm glad.
Great! The otg games is also supported on the sega mini?
Thank you fom 2022 !!))))
Had mine exactly as i wanted then got a message that says.." this modded system is not for re-sale..you was scammed" ..obviously not nint€ndo, All my snes games now have a C7. Error when i try to start a game even tho they ran perfectly before, any fix for this?
I have a console that supports the formats: gba, gbc and nes but when connecting to a computer it does not detect. How to change the game format, e.g. N64 to nes Classic without connecting the nes console? I need to know!
I see Mortal Kombat II was on tehre but not unlocked. What were the other games they couldn't come to an agreement on?
Is there a certain way to disconnect everything when you are done copying and I need more details when copying to USB drive
One game I couldn’t run on the SEGA genesis mini is Phantasy Star 2. I don’t know if it’s the rom I used.
With the NES classic now selling for $180, does anyone know if this will work on the $30 knockoff versions for sale? Obviously you wouldn't need to download the images of the games since it is just a list but can you put different roms on those versions?
Does anyone know how to change the back icon image?
Also does anyone know how to change the retroarch background image of outer space?
You say you shouldn't have to flash the kernel when you plug it back in, but I've had to several times, any reason you can think of as to why?
Hi, I followed this tutorial and added NES and SNES games, but once I connect the sega to the TV I dont see any of the games. Can you help me figure out what I did wrong?
I tried select+start to open retro arch for snes games but didn't open retro arch
What am I doing wrong.. I can play all the extra nes games I put on my nes mini classic but no other system s game will work. I select the right console and core. I try every core it will not work. Up by the structure dropdown tab do i change it from nes? Please help I either get a blank screen for a second or a c7 error
Do you know If the original nes classic kernel gets put into the dump folder if you want to go back to unmodded.
Any idea how many SNES games will fit on the mini? (no ota/usb adapter)
Is it possible to access mame menu to adjust game difficulty using snes mini controllers. If not maybe put in a button combination in future update would be very helpful in regards to the enjoyment of these games.
It is possible yes but depends on the game.
Amazing vid
HELP PLEASE!!! I Tried to Delete Hackchi from my Genesis After Deleting the Games I Added but it WON'T WORK! It my mini took too long yet all me antivirusrs, vpns, & firewall are turned off! How Do I Deltet? PLEASE HELP!!!! The Official Reddit & Discord didn't have any help that worked!
i've tried several power cords and it's not showing the greenlight
You would have to re-add the games I believe.
Michael Geelan I see... I didn’t know you had to right click on the games to select the scrape option I’ll give that a try
@@TruMusicLighting
I've also found that sometimes nothing come up when you scrape. In that case, I copy and paste the game title in the search box below the images(delete the ID number first) I've managed to find every game I was looking for that way
is there a complete tutor on just the SNES with Hakchi 3.8 ? , no adding 5 emulators to the system , or showing about other mini systems, im trying to find one Just SNES , and putting games on to it, thanks
Is there anything I need to keep in mind when putting Super Famicom games with translation patches applied on an American SNES Classic?
Mine is always offline it cant work
On the Sega Genesis Mini how do you go back to the main menu without retroarch? Are you able to make this system show widescreen?
Its a long shot but i was wondering if there is a certain way to use the WII controller on the Snes i just got it today from amazon its a pro controller but everytime i try and use it even in the main menu its lacky and just doesnt have the right input anyway i can fix this? Would be greatly appreciated if i can get a reply from you or anyone who can help me
Hi. Do you know how to add games like return of the joker that use a different mapper
Thank you so much it worked!
