Hurray, the day is here and this looks amazing. Hakchi is so easy to use and Patton your tutorials are the best.
I hope people appreciate all the hundreds of hours of testing and coding. This was a labor of love and if used correctly will be on par with the SNES Classic.
Have a great weekend, have fun and happy gaming. ^_^

I dont like how u get the cover art. It's so time consuming. Letting the program do it for u gets most of the cover art wrong. I think lunar program does it better, but its just a tad faster

The problem most people had with the snes classic was throwing hundreds of games/consoles on the main UI. Even in folders and not exceeding the 50/60 games per folder would cause C8 errors. To fix this was "dummy folder" and loading thousands of games in folders on a USB and just using Retroarch.
For some, that can be handled better on a Odroid or Pi, even the PS classic can get the job done. The huge request was wanting to add Genesis/Mega Drive games on the main UI of the MD mini while also tending to the needs of others wanting other consoles on the main UI.
But the skinny of it is, the more you bog the console down the slower it gets. Load times, slow down in menu and resetting back to main menu. Realistically on the classic consoles if you add 30 to 50 games they run like a champ. I did this for my nes, snes and MD mini. But no body wants to do that, we all want the whole library of every console. So yes, adding box art and spine art for many games can be a pain.
I won't hate on Lunar or their team, but hakchi as well as the men and women affiliated have been a huge pleasure and help throughout the years. They rock. 😊

Well worth the wait, honestly. Got my system up and running right off the bat. Had issues with Lunar not having folder support or ui retroarch integration on first launch. Even the recent update still has no folder support. I can't work with that because I have many games I wanted to load up. Folders are a must and Hakchi made that happen on boot.

Lots of folks wondering about how to do the 6 button mapping correctly. I messed around with it and got it to work perfectly. Start a Genesis game (I chose Mortal Kombat 2 to be able to easily test the controls with)- bring up the retroarch menu, scroll down to controls, and then for User 1 I selected "MD 6 button" (I'm using the 8bitdo M30 and the official 6 button wireless for player 2), then scroll down and map the buttons accordingly: (Follow the same for player 2 and on if using more than 1 6-button controller)
B will need to be changed to A
    A changed to X
    C changed to B
    Y stays at Y
    X changed to Z
    Z changed to C
***Be sure to "Save Core Remap File" to save this
    Have fun!

Hakchi turned out to be the best and easiest method to hack my mini. Folder support and UI integration were on top of my list of things I needed to get mine up and running the way I like it and it delivered. It may not have a scraping tool, but that's ok. We're at least given the option to fill in any of those fields manually and by leaving them blank, clicking on a game takes you directly to the game launch, which is actually nice, as I'm not really thrilled to see a pop up gimmick every time I want to play a game.
Everything is running great much like on my SNES Classic. No muss no fuss.

I mean great pixel art games still look and run great even today, which is why many developers continue to this day to release brand new games using pixel art, but those first gen 3D games just tend to look and run a bit crap now. I would like an N64 Mini, don't get me wrong, but I question how satisfying playing those old games would be in 2020 when stuck with the single analog stick and so on. Some of the best N64 games are still cool when I play them on my PC via emulator, but that's because I can remap the controls to dual analog and even run them at higher resolutions and framerates and so on. It would certainly be interesting to see what Nintendo would do with this.

    • @Choom2077
      @Choom2077 5 лет назад +1

Yes it does. One of the first things I tested out after using Hakchi. It loads the translated theme of the menu and language format. However, if you're speaking on behalf of game versions (USA, Japan, EU) Hakchi actually exposes all games, including 2 additional games that weren't even on the list of included games. Sword of Vermilion and Mortal Kombat II were hidden games for some reason. This allows you to actually load up any variant of the game to your main UI along with your other games. So you don't technically have to switch languages to access them. This is actually not a negative though. I find it to be a bit more of a convenient. But if you want to separate them from your other games, you can create a directory for just those versions. You can always change the theme setting based on region in the language settings. :)

A thought on the part when connecting the USB cable when connecting it up to the PC, do it on the PC side (i.e. regular USB plug), not the micro-USB side. Micro USB it is more fragile. I used the PC side without issues mostly because my Genesis is new so it was a bit tight.

Ok, so, when i start up hakchi (btw i never had any issue following directions with the other consoles)...first it auto loads a bunch of NES games..ok. i switch to SEGA USA....it loads a bunch of the stock sega games, some in foreign languages which are not checked, but also in that list, and checked, is Mortal Kombat II...this is before i've added anything or even connected my console to sync.
Now...when i connect the console etc...all those games are checked (the stock ones) and its says...2mb of 134mb used. Am i missing something or is this hella confusing? I'd love to join you on discord but i cannot get on, i have no idea, i try to get on there and it just keeps bringing me back to my login page and i cant access you on there.

    What I’ve noticed so far:
    - Konami games need to be run in Retroarch. Hyperstone Heist is playable with no sound in the native emulator, but Rocket Knight Adventures, Sparkster, and Zombies Ate My Neighbors just load a frozen Konami logo.
-I can’t play the foreign versions of the original games when I change the language.
-The sound delay on the original games is almost entirely eliminated while running them with Retroarch.

Silvered Grunion I noticed that only the English games were checked off in the “Original Games” window on Hakchi, so checking the box to add the foreign games should include them all. However, I imagine they would all be selectable from the main UI, along with the English games, instead of being able to toggle back and forth from the language menu like a stock Genesis Mini. I’ll try later.
      Also:
      - I can’t switch to widescreen mode from the settings menu. “CRT” mode still works tho.
      - I can’t change the way the games are sorted from the main UI. Games are listed in alphabetical order by default, but switching to “By Release Year”, for example, does nothing.
      - If you’re using the Retro Bit 6 Button Controller with Retroarch, the buttons need to be remapped.

Then my laptop died so I lost Hakchi on the laptop. Everything is still on the Megadrive Mini including lots of games for various systems on a separate USB stick. I do not know if anyone is reporting on it, but the Genesis Mini with Pico seems to be running Kolibri (32X) better than the SNES. I am sure it could just be improvements in Retroarch. However, I will try the NBA Jam TE 32X, which had issues before.
This is 80% of the reason I bought a Genesis Mini. I was sure the 32X emulation would be better when Genesis was the native system.
