Not what any of you expected after almost a year amirite? Well, I'm unpredictable like that. If you'd like to see more of my content, here's the Critical Nobody playlist - bit.ly/2M3r65U
Been quite the while good to see you again, I say this because I usually miss your streams 😀, anyhow I always liked the first dead to rights, dead to rights reckoning had funny ragdoll physics on the psp, many a night was spent messing around in that game and Retribution was my brothers favorite damn shame they stopped making more.
I'd play a well-made remake or reboot of the first Dead to Rights especially if they do what Retribution did and give us sections where we play as Shadow as Jack's Alaskan Malamute/Timber Wolf Hybrid K9 partner is a series icon as much as Jack.
I'm thinking more of a packaging together of this with kill.switch and Urban Reign with better graphics. Hopefully the Dead to Rights in the bundle will be the Gamecube version (better colors and resolution).
if I recall, the original Dead to Rights 2 by the original devs was cancelled and the assets given to different developers to make 2 and Reckoning which is why they share alot of assets, Jack even has his scar he gets mid-way through the first game due to that as it was intended as a sequel with Jack becoming a punisher-like figure fighting crime. I only played the PS2 version of 1 but I do think if you're making a game easier with a port then the old difficulty should usually be an option. Doom 3 BFG suffers from making the game WAY easier to the point of completely removing any need to look for secrets
I think there's really early images online where its his DTR1 head model, but wearing some kind of green military jacket. Looked pretty cool iirc, sad we never got to see that version.
yeah i remember seeing dead to rights 2 on magazines and it looked completely different than the final game. i wish i knew what happened to that magazine the game looked amazing. i remember renting 2 when it released and i didn't believe it was the same game
Actually, this is somewhat false. The team at Namco Hometek was actually working on an "Escape from New York" game, but it wasn't built on this game. The game was separate from this. It was supposed to have the same gameplay engine and the graphics engine, but "Dead to Rights" was likely supposed to be what it was all along. Look up Unseen64's post about "Snake Plissken's Escape." You will get more detail on that cancelled game.
The main character sounding like Christopher Walken in the first game sells it for me. "I gotta have more cowbell." Gotta mention that the lifebar and armor UI reminds of the one in the Syphon Filter games on Playstation 1.
“Has there ever been a game series you’ve always considered yourself a fan only to realise only 1 entry is worth caring about” Yes that franchise is FEAR
This one right here gets it. F.E.A.R. is a masterpiece (Best shooter ever made alongside DOOM Eternal imo) and it's expansions Extraction Point and Persues Mandate are also awesome. 2 is horrendous and I hate that game, it's at best an okay competentish shooter but it's an awful sequel and isn't worthy of the F.E.A.R. name. I haven't really played F.E.A.R. 3 outside of the first level but what I played of it wasn't very impressive to say the least.
@@zaiden2becausejustzaidenisused what's holding people back from making another game like deus ex 1 is that the character model of adam jensen took more time and file space than the entire UNATCO HQ.
I grew up with my older brother and he even got me into video games to begin with. I still remember him playing the first Dead to Rights and watching him as he did most of the early game. I eventually played the whole game myself a few years back VIA Xbox Backwards compatibility, and I was pleasantly surprised (and incredibly frustrated) at times while playing. It really is an awesome and often overlooked gem of a game! From what I’ve seen over the years and here in the sequels, it seemed I wasn’t missing out on much over time. I always knew they existed growing up too, but stores in my area never had these and other games I was interested in. I actually rented Retribution from a Red Box (R.I.P) (may have bought it cheap at a pay n trade though, I forgot) back in high school and was genuinely surprised with it. I thought it was pretty fun and enjoyed my time with it, but I can easily see what you meant with it being a rental one-and-done kind of game. It’s a shame that studio went under after it, they also made the Reservoir Dogs game, which I actually thought was a fun and unique game with having the option to be non lethal as a professional or just going crazy taking everyone down. It was great to hear another person’s thoughts on this series! It is obvious how Namco really had no idea what to do with it; at the least we still have a fun and memorable action game from the magical gaming years of the early to mid 2000’s.
I absolutely loved the first Dead to Rights! That intro cutscene in the library, when Jack took on all the terrorist solo, then got into a 1v1 with the boss, and managed to disarm the bombs with 3/100ths of a second left! That shit got me so hype as a kid. I highly recommend watching it if you've never seen it before. All the action in the cutscene shows what you can do in the game. And I loved the disarm system. I thought they looked cool AF and made you feel like a complete badass. If I remember correctly, each weapon had 4 variations of disarm, one for each directional input. I couldn't wait until I came across a new weapon just to see all the disarm animations. I enjoyed every second of the first game.
One day in 2017 I was working at GameStop, and I opened a box of inventory. In the box was a couple copies of Dead To Rights, SSX 3 and Morrowind. I was so confused.
I must inform you that Namco Hometek was originally working on a direct sequel to the 2002 original. There is even some information online about it. It was supposed to be called "Dead to Rights II: Hell to Pay." I also think I heard somewhere on a stream that Chris Bruno was supposed to reprise his role as Jack Slate and recorded his lines, but the recordings were never used.
Played DTR1 countless times on PS2, tried DTR II a couple of times, always got bored after a few minutes and gave up. Rented Retribution once played 1 Level and turned it back. I still enjoy playing DTR1 to this day, the fun factor of that game is unique.
I still remember that story you told about how your dad taught you how to nitpick through the opening sequence of the first game. That sh*t is just so funny.
First of all, good to see another upload from you man! Second, over 10 years ago now I got a copy of Dead to Rights at a Toys R Us. They were clearing out some of their GBA inventory and I scooped a few games for very cheap, I played through the whole game and thought it was quite decent (I was a child). It took me over 2 years to consider that maybe I should look up if it had any other sequels, and that's when I discovered the console versions of the original game. When I saw how flashy and stylish the gameplay was compared to the watered down GBA port, I felt so cheated lmao. Cheers man, great video, hope you keep it up.
Apparently the original Dead to Rights developers tried their hand at a game based on John Carpenter's excellent film, Escape from New York. Several years ago someone uploaded some concept gameplay, using Dead to Rights 1 with Snake Plisskin skinned over the main character.
Man, that's just torture. Unless you're skipping those card game PSP releases, Snake's revenge, all the different rerelease versions like substance/subsistence, or the fact that MGS4 is vaporware lol

DT2 has a weird mechanic that isn't explained. The 2 small boxes underneath the adrenaline meter. Disarm uses the the right box, human shield uses the left. By the time you toggle between both moves and do a slowmo dive (faster and safer kills), both boxes become green for sure. Short cooldown but it will force you to play a specific way. Ammo was a lot more on DT2. Dive mechanic also helps in ammo conservation.
I had really forgotten about him as I last saw one of his livestreams last year. A week ago I just remembered him and thought he may have left this career to do something else. But seeing him today after 1.5 years. I was shocked
Whoa, wasn't expecting this one. But hey I'm down considering I love this series. Also yes. I know this feeling very well. And it kind of saddens me. Also also, I remember actually being the one telling you about the GameCube version when you were streaming the Xbox version at one point. About how that version was very different in comparison. (And it's the one I grew up with)
Nice the have you back, brother. Absolutely loved the first Dead To Rights. And yes those battle scars for the Xbox still remain and I will never play it any other way.
I love the first game. I remember seeing the second game and passing on it based on the changes they made, never actually played it. The first game is good enough to warrant a remaster or a remake at some point. If they ever do revive the franchise again, I'd like to see a prequel where you play as the father in his youth. Seems like there is a lot to mine from there.
The only Dead to Rights I played is Retribution, and it was honestly a mildly positive surprise. It was so cheesy that it kept me at least somewhat entertained all the way through. I'm planning on playing the first one some day.
>No mention of the PC versions of the first 2 games Granted, the PC version of the second game had a VERY limited release, to the point where for years it was believed by many to be a regional exclusive (In Poland/Russia) but the first game had a high-profile PC port and I do wish it was at least mentioned, if not briefly analyzed (even if only to mention which console version it's closer to in difficulty) Almost perfect video/10
It's a decent version but you can't play it in higher resolutions and you really need to adjust the controls. Once you do and adopt a certain playstyle, the game becomes tolerable. I made an in depth review.
I played first game on PC. Had descent time with it, but remember couldn't get past some level which might be far after prison level or not so far after it. I honestly don't remember and I don't really have much memories of this game other than the fact that I played it. In your Splinter Cell review when you shown footage and called it by name my reactions was "I know this game and I don't remember this scene.". Maybe I didn't play far enough to experience it, but the point is, it was not memorable for me at all despite me having descent with it.
Just when I got me a couple of bottles of beer! This video made my whole morning. Try The Punisher (2005). An underrated gem, in my eyes. I feel you might like it, maybe even love it.

So when I saw you mentioned the differences in both versions I knew it wasnt just me. Ive never played any of the others in the series.
That parking garage entrance made ma snort laugh my drink. Yeah, we've seen plenty of fake tunnels and entrances, but guys, at least put a shutter or grating down over it with a "Closed" sign or something so that the player can't walk in there and see it leads nowhere.
I was watching a video where you made a comment about Johnny Depp being a weatherman, and I realized that you had 150k subs, so I clicked on the channel, and if I was only 3 hours earlier, I would’ve thought you had completely stopped posting a year ago
You nailed it with your intro. Dead to Rights is a game i played, and then years later, i played the sequel. and i hated it so much i had to replay the original. :I
Not really related to anything but I wish that Blitz games got the greenlight to do their own original IP Posession, instead of DTR Retribution which is what Namco wanted them to do.
Dead to rights retribution looks exactly what I wanted in the 2010s, idk why I never picked it up and played it. I hope it comes out for backwards compatibility
Wow, you're back. Surprising. Nice but surprising. Dead to Rights 1 was (is?) one of my favourites on PS2, second instalment was a huge disappointment, that huge so I was not even aware there were other instalments besides Retribution which I heard was a totally mediocre game, so never even tried, but what I see here on gameplay is just OK, not that bad as in my mind.
You produce quality content, frequency be damned. Human beings have creative peaks and troughs and the world hasn't been a kind or gentle place lately, so the interruptions are to be expected. Thank you as always.
Dead to rights is such a product of it time. And it's such a fun series to blast through. It's not a max Payne but it's fun is something these games do good.
That 1st DTR was coming for Max's head because it had hand to hand, when I saw the 2nd one in Game Informer I was too hype because of ninjas, and when I finally got to play it, it made me sick to my stomach 😢
I remember loving retribution and luckily that was before I started playing games on harder difficulties by default so I just ran around abusing the hell outta the melee and disarms as I thought it was the coolest shit ever. I also remember thinking that ‘Point the gun that way’ spiel being the most badass thing ever. Suffice it to say, takes don’t always age well but I will still always remember and love retribution from those memories.
I thought this video was very interesting since I've never even heard of this franchise until this video and I have to agree with you on this it really was just a hidden gem on the seventh generation of consoles that forcibly got turned into a whole franchise against its will hopefully this series will see a new entry someday that harkens back to its roots while still feeling like a much more modern game than its contemporaries to stand up with the video game industries much more higher standards in other words if Max Payne can go years without a new entry and come up with a fantastic finale so can dead to rights.
Not what any of you expected after almost a year amirite? Well, I'm unpredictable like that.

Thank you as always.
we are so back
Dead to rights is such a product of it time. And it's such a fun series to blast through. It's not a max Payne but it's fun is something these games do good.
Picked up the first game at a convention recently, and from what I’ve played so far it’s pretty fun in it’s stupidity
He’s Back, the king is back!
Hey glad to see your back
Glad to see you back buddy
A craig upload? Nice!
Oh shit, finally he’s back 😂
This Max Payne and Ratchet and Clank was my childhood
Whoa welcome back
That 1st DTR was coming for Max's head because it had hand to hand, when I saw the 2nd one in Game Informer I was too hype because of ninjas, and when I finally got to play it, it made me sick to my stomach 😢
dropping by to say hi, i found you through a fortress craft chapter 1 video from 2011
I remember loving retribution and luckily that was before I started playing games on harder difficulties by default so I just ran around abusing the hell outta the melee and disarms as I thought it was the coolest shit ever. I also remember thinking that ‘Point the gun that way’ spiel being the most badass thing ever. Suffice it to say, takes don’t always age well but I will still always remember and love retribution from those memories.
Holy shit, Craig's back.
I thought this video was very interesting since I've never even heard of this franchise until this video and I have to agree with you on this it really was just a hidden gem on the seventh generation of consoles that forcibly got turned into a whole franchise against its will hopefully this series will see a new entry someday that harkens back to its roots while still feeling like a much more modern game than its contemporaries to stand up with the video game industries much more higher standards in other words if Max Payne can go years without a new entry and come up with a fantastic finale so can dead to rights.
for some reason watching the game play for DTR 2 reminded me of Jet Li's Rise To Honor.
Could be a good video too
He's alive?
I like all of the games with Retribution being my most favorite of the series.
