I am completely new to sewing, so as my 4th project, I challenged myself to make a pillow cover. Thanks to your wonderful tutorial, I was able to complete a pillow cover that fits perfectly! Thank you for taking time to explain and show each step in detail. 😊
That must feel great! It's sad that the public school took home economics out of their classes. When I was in 8th grade I made a beautiful skirt and in 9th grade a double sided vest to match the skirt. When I was 12, I went to a girl's religious camp that summer, the whole bunk made jumpers. I remembering being scared that I would sit down and the stiches would all come out, LOL. Between a good sewing machine and talented counsellors, each girl had a beautiful jumper. Today pillow covers...tomorrow...a new wardrobe!
Thank you for this tutorial. I just made two square and two rectangle Christmas pillow covers using your method. What I like is that the the envelope covers the whole back without gaping. Now I need to check out more of your videos!
This is great. I really liked the tips, the different methods, and explaining how you did your math. My father passed away recently and I wanted to use some of his shirts to make pillow covers but was pretty sure I wouldn't have enough fabric to make a whole cover. Especially your first way, with a different color back, and not worrying about adding a zipper seems like something I can do. Definitely going to practice on some other fabric first though as I haven't done much sewing. This seems doable.
Thank you. This is probably the most comprehensive tutorial I’ve ever watched. So well described. Without any confusion. Congrats and well done. I can’t wait to view more of your tutorials.
After another busy but fun filled day, I get to sit, hand sew on a quilt border and watch this video. Thank you so much for sharing this and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead!
Thanks!!! I am making Christmas covers and was going to do the one piece envelope. I did not measure my pillows correctly. But I think with the 3 piece method I can make the fabric work. Thanks again!
So happy I watched this! I'm putting together a long pillow this very day. I would NOT have been happy with my results! Thank you for your clear tutorial!
Thank you so much for this video! You are a wonderful teacher and because you made it so simple for me, I was able to make three pillows for my sons in memory of their grandfather who passed this year. Definitely hitting the subscribe button - thanks again!
That is so wonderful to hear Denise, thank you for your kind words😊And what a thoughtful gift you could give your boys!!! Those pillows will be loved forever 💗
Wow thank you so much for such great information and instructions, I am new to sewing and I have made the envelope cushion cover!!! It's a miracle lol thank you
Hi Tamara i have just watched your tutorial and it has helped me a great deal your method is much easier the maths part is the best now to have a go I need to make 5 pillows so wish me luck I have liked and subscribed to your channel .Thanks for taking the time to make and stream your video
great tutorial, thank you Tamara! I am guessing if you want a bigger flange edge you have to add on the size ? Im a lil rusty at my sewing skills but your video is inspiring indeed!
For Tip #8, I have a genius tip. To avoid noticing the back seam on your square pillow, turn it in the other direction. Voila! So much less effort than sweating whether it's the top or the side of the square. Because it's square. Jeez, Louise.
God, thank you for help. Thank you for sewing skills and everything that you helped me make. I pray for a new sewing machine. Thank you for the time, supplies and material and patience in Jesus name. Amen 🙏I pray for all women to enjoy sewing in Jesus name. Amen 🙏
I am currently making a 14x14 pillow slipcover. Where did you get the 4 inches from at 1:17? Since my pillow is slightly smaller should I make this number smaller?
Fair point! Yes you can make the 4” smaller. The main thing is you don’t want the pillow once inserted to spread both flaps apart and show the inside pillow. I hope that makes sense. Happy sewing!
I find that if you buy pillow forms that are one or two sizes larger then your pillow cover you can get a nice full pillow. Hope that helps! My pillow forms used in this tutorial were old so I have no idea where to send you for a good pillow form. So sorry!
Hello! I am going to attempt the first 2 ways of making these covers. I want to understand the math.. can you tell me what/how the plus 4” is on the first cover and on the long pillow what/how is the plus 2” on the small piece and the plus 5” is on the long piece? What are those additions for? Thanks son,I h.. very much a newbie here
Hi Regina, Fabric comes is lots of different widths. Often quilters cotton comes at around 42" (in my area anyways, and I tend to use quilters cotton for my projects). If you want to make a pillow cover often a half of a yard will give you plenty to work with (depending on the size of the pillow you want to cover of course). Just make sure you buy enough off the bolt, that it is larger than the width (plus seams) of your pillow that you are covering. Hope that helps :)
Hi Ashlee, congrats on your baby boy! I am a boy mom and they sure will keep you busy. As for the pillow, yes you can do this without an iron. Just finger press the edge and that will work too. Or pin the folds down. Or even some Elmer’s glue will hold it down temporarily. Just make sure it is a wash away glue. Happy sewing!!
Because I like my pillows to fit snuggly into their cases. If I allowed for the seam allowance I find my pillow cases float around in the case. Hope that helps, and happy sewing 🧵
Thank you for sharing that Margaret. My new tutorials no longer have the music as I was feeling the same way. Glad to hear I made the right choice! Happy Sewing :)
I think it's funny I use a chopstick too. If anyone wants to use a chopstick for your corners do not use the ones they give your with your food. Go to an Asian grocery store and buy a nice set for 4 to 8 people you can put two in the sewing room and put the rest in your silverware drawer I put mine with the knives and you will never have to use those nasty wooden ones ever again.
Perfect video for a beginner; I made the envelope pillowcase and fits perfect...Thank You!

Hi Sherry! So glad you found this tutorial helpful!
Thank you so much! I never could figure out a formula that could be used for all sized pillows. 🙃 Such useful info and tips!
Thank you. Explained very clearly and I appreciate that you gave a visual for the math the formulas.
Thank you this was the most easiest tutorial I see I am going to do it for my winter pillows 🥰❤️

You are right Tammy :) You would have to make those measurements larger.
Brilliant video- thank you! X

what do you mean by "decide if you want to account for your seam allowance?" thank you! great tutorial!
Could a person use a surger machine? Thank you for the tutorials

Very important info if the pillow front is directional, however!
மிகவும் அழகாக இருக்கிறது. நன்றி.
Question about the long pillow: why did you add 2" to the short side and 5" to the long side? Thanks.
I apologize just read tutorial description and seems to I plagiarized it oh well.
Great tutorial. Gonna subscribe and watch more
For the rectangle pillow cover, is there a specific reason you didn’t add an inch for seam allowance? Is it so the pillow is tighter within the cover?
Very nice

I just looked up envelope pillow case. I’m not sure if I’m sending you the link.
Where did you buy your pillow forms? They are fuller and softer then the ones i got at WM and Joanns

how are you measuring your fabric? Fabric comes in 45" and 60" bolts. If you want 1 or 2 colors of fabric, how much should you purchase? Thanks
Hi Regina, Fabric comes is lots of different widths. Often quilters cotton comes at around 42" (in my area anyways, and I tend to use quilters cotton for my projects). Can I still do this without an iron? My first project. Making a pillow for my newborn son.

When pressing the 1/2” seams, do we sew over to secure?
Why didn't you add 1/2 inch on the width of the pillow form for the seem allowance?
Because I like my pillows to fit snuggly into their cases. If I allowed for the seam allowance I find my pillow cases float around in the case. Hope that helps, and happy sewing 🧵
@@TamarasJoyDIY I thought you did for the length but not the width.. my mistake
What's the type of fabric?
Recommendation from someone who followed this wonderful tutorial and made several pillow covers….any fabric really. I prefer to use a sturdier fabric.
can you do the math for me for a king-size pillow? I don't trust myself
I found this video helpful. However, I found the background music a bit distracting.

That is a great suggestion!
I use a crochet hook to push my corners out. It works very well.
🙄
You talk (and work) way too fast. Especially with your measurements. Not helpful at all.
