    Thank you! very curious what you think is the best way to add the decals/texture paint without having perspective distortion? When you paint the radio active symbol on the orthographical view it ends up being a bit stretched on the perspective, right? So curious of your approach for not having this distortion. Thanks again and amazing channel!

    • @zerobio
      @zerobio  Год назад +1

      Thanks David. I haven't used this method for so long and now rely pretty much only on Substance Painter so I'm not in the best position to help out with this method other than suggesting you have a very good model, a good unwrap and high resolution decal. Maybe try moving it around and seeing if the distortion is reduced in a slightly different position. Good luck and hope you get some decent results.

    • @davidbernal8881
      @davidbernal8881 Год назад +1

      @@zerobio Thank you! Found a solution in case you or anybody finds useful. With the shortcut shift+numpad#7 the camera view is framed straight on the selected face. What seems to cause the distortion is not painting straight on, so this puts you in the exact position to paint "orthographically" so to speak, eliminating any warping or having to blindly move the camera to find the right perspective.

      @@sp3zyy I'm not exactly sure what you are seeing but I will suggest that the decal probably needs to be more subdivided in order to wrap around a slightly curved surface. If that is the case, bring it in as "image as plane" and manually subdivide it a lot and see how shrink-wrap works.

    So er... IDK what I am doing or what I am doing wrong but: I am trying to add a logo onto a bat and followed every step until 4:22 . At that point I got confused. I draged this texture where I wanted to be and at the first time (when you said you want to have it on both sides) I didn´t click on symetry x. It didn´t work (also I didn´t know what you pressed or what you did). Then I pressed on symetry x because I thought it would help and did every thing until you drew over the logo. Didn´t work (also again didn´t know what you pressed or did at this one moment) can someone help me out?

      @@zerobio Thanks for helping. I watched a different video about it and found out that those shader blocks weren't connected correctly and somehow after I connected them how they were supposed to be the logo was correct. So far so good. XD. Now (because I want a logo on a bat) it is a bit disturded. But I saw a different comment about that earlier in this commentsection but I didn't read it yet because I am not at home. Thanks for helping😁

    Thanks... nice and short... but It's distorted on the curved surface. How do we get un-distorted decals?

    • @zerobio
      @zerobio  3 года назад +2

      Use high resolution png. Best we can do at this point, I think. Ok, you could try improving the uv for the surface u want the decal on. Make sure its nice and square. Also, make sure to click image aspect ratio. Or you might have more luck with substance painter and decals

    • @speedasian
      @speedasian 3 года назад

      I'm still a beginner so I may be mistaken, but I think it's also a bit distorted because of the curvature of the helmet. The pink skull isn't really distorted because it's on a flatter surface, but the radioactive symbol is. It could help to rotate the viewport so you're looking directly at the helmet from the angle it'll be viewed from, but you'll have to play around with the sizing and whatnot.

    • @zerobio
      @zerobio  3 года назад +3

      @@speedasian It is difficult to put a flat decal on a curved surface. Another ways is to use the "shrinkwrap" modifier after subdividing the decal image quite a bit. I often use shrinkwrap but wanted to show a different method here.

    • @zerobio
      @zerobio  3 года назад

      Would you mind sending me a screenshot of your model with the decal to kimmelelliott@gmail.com so I can see exactly how distorted it is? I will continue to work on these decal videos, I think, because of issues like this. There are other methods that may work better as well as some modifications to this method so send me an image and I will keep at this for you guys.

    • @zerobio
      @zerobio  3 года назад +1

      Ok, I am going to do a video next using shrinkwrap. It works much better for this kind of decal with no distortion. Hang on until tonight and I will make that for you.

    • @zerobio
      @zerobio  3 года назад +1

      @@archiplanservices3746 Thanks. I will work on another video with more UV manipulation and this may help. Otherwise, using the shrinkwrap modifier after subdividing the decal image may work better for some people. I do that frequently but this video is about texture painting and stencil. Also, it is important to make sure you click the image aspect ratio before applying. This may be the distortion that is being observed. It's also important to use a high resolution decal. Finally, there are other methods to apply an image to a model and I may consider making videos about those as well to be complete and they may be useful in certain cases.
