As a native Torontonian (M, 28) researching a move to Rotterdam, I'm excited to see the unique innovations of the city. (including the cube houses!) I would be curious to know; considering Toronto's young/urban attitude aimed towards innovation and essential/"back-to-basics" living (i.e. Witchwood Farmers Market, Trinity Bellwoods, etc.), do you feel that Rotterdam is able to blend the European way of life with a fair sense of familiarity, or do these artistic and architectural features add only a touch of memories from homes in an otherwise completely foreign place?

I travelled toThe Netherlands back in 2012 in April. I was disappointed that the weather was more on the chilly side of Spring coming from Australia. I had plenty of winter woolies luckily enough. I travelled to Rotterdam by Train from Amsterdam central not knowing that it would take about 3 hours. Rotterdam was drissly cold. I realised I got off at Rotterdam Central. I should have gotten off at Rotterdam “ Blaak”. To see that amazing bridge and the cube apartment. I had a trip to Koukenhoff and they told me the reason there were no tulips is because the weather was unseasonably cold for the time of year. I went back to Amsterdam and next day travelled to Utrecht and then Delft. That was pretty much the highlight of my trip.
I'm sorry to hear you didn't have better weather for your trip, Glenn! As you can see in the video, it was quite windy and rainy the day we filmed as well. I'd love to see the tulips in bloom someday too :)
An incredible city, I adore it! Luckily for me I married a Rotterdamer, so we get to return and visit family every few years, and I never get tired of being there and walking and discovering new things (and revisiting others!). Wonderful people, vibe and so easy to get around, and as it’s somewhat in the shadow of Amsterdam, it is 100% authentic and not a tourist city. Can’t name a favourite feature, I love the whole place! [-Q]
Not the entire city was bombed, only the centre (apart from a area in the west of Rotterdam that was accidentily bombed by the Americans). And the cube houses were first built in Helmond in the south of the Netrherlands.
Yes, I've seen photos of the houses in Helmond. The entire city may not have been destroyed but, in my view, a very significant amount of damage was sustained.
Rotterdam has many amazing perks. My favorite actually is just the centre; Lijnbaan, Beurs, Blaak etc. Very much exciting things to see, places to eat and it's not as busy as Amsterdam.
Thank You for sharing this about Rotterdam. Almost every video I look up on the Netherlands it's always Amsterdam anyone ever talks about. They act like Amsterdam is all there is to the Netherlands. I was starting to get pissed off thinking I' wouldn't find any video on any other cities in the Netherlands. This is nice to finally see something other than Amsterdam. The architect in Rotterdam is beautiful and very modern looking. I'd love to visit Rotterdam it looks beautiful.
Hey! Thanks for your comment! Yes, Amsterdam is certainly the most popular place to visit in the Netherlands (and we made videos there too) but there are lots of wonderful places, of course, to experience :) Rotterdam is totally different and interesting to see a different side.

Went to Amsterdam for the first time last year. Didn't quite like it, so I jumped on a train to Rotterdam. Wow! Home sweet home! Crossed the "Egyptian bridge" turned right an entered the Netherlands photo museum. Loved it! I'm coming back. ;)
Sincerely,

Im coming to Rotterdam in November...will visit Amsterdam only as a day trip
Paul van Daalen we doen onze uiterste best de toeristenstroom een beetje te spreiden. Toeristen brengen ook geld in het laatje, het is niet alleen negatief
My favorite spot to visit is the fenix food factory and the little restaurants in the area. You can google it.
The Fenix Food Factory looks great. We wanted to go but didn't get there. Next time!
Lieselot Slingerland
To bad she forgot about the Fenix and the Deli square. One of the best kept secrets in a unique City! But...like she mentioned, next time!
Cool, interesting to hear more about the city I live in ;)
Thanks, Veronika! You live in an awesome city :)
Cool, I am going to visit it this weekend
I live here to i didnt know much about what you said
Your city is amazing, futurist and people is fun. Best city I visited during my eurotrip. Hugs from Brazil ✌🏻🏄♂️
i like Delfshaven beacuse of its contrast to what you just described
Rotterdam has to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world! It is really a beacon of hope and prosperity for humankind :)
Beacon of hope is a good way to articulate how I feel about its rebuilding :)
Good articheture
Great 'review' of the city! Never been there but the next time I'm in NL I'll try to visit the Markthal for sure!
Sorry I am a torontoian too but idk what u mean by that
Uh my buddy went to the Netherlands this summer I need to go!!!! Great video
Thanks! Yes, you should definitely visit!
I’m thinking of visiting here!

So Good
Very nice video about my beloved city of Rotterdam, love it! Have you also been on the Euromast? Up there you definitely have the greatest view at the skyline of Rotterdam!
Thanks so much, Willem! I saw the Euromast but we didn't get a chance to go up it. I heard it's a fantastic view :)
Eileen Aldis Its not as tall or impressive as CN Tower in Toronto, but on a really clear day, the views are amazing!
Very nice! Rotterdams best thing is the mentality of the people. When your searching for everything that’s fake Go 45 Miles north, when you want the real deal; welcome in Rotterdam!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed the video :)
_"Rotterdams best thing is the mentality of the people."_
Nah, Rotterdams best thing is the train to Amsterdam.
Rotterdam's so awesome -- model for modernism done right! Rotterdam rocks!
So nice to see you enjoying my country!
Let me know if you need any help while you're here!
I absolutely love it! Thanks so much :)
Loved this video. I'm going to Rotterdam for my European honeymoon in September and can't wait to check out all these attractions! 😘👌❤️
Hope you have a wonderful honeymoon trip! :)
I live here :D! You made a wonderful video about it yaay
Thanks very much! I'm so glad to hear that :)
I’ve lived in Rotterdam all my life so it’s really fun to see this! If you come back you should visit the Fenix Loods and het Deliplein on Katendrecht because there’s such a nice ambiance there!
Thanks a lot, Lisse! You have a lovely city :) We really wanted to go to the Fenix Food Factory but didn't make it. Just saw it from across the water. Next time!
Its so beautiful....😍
What's your favourite part?
well done nice video rgrds from Rotterdam
Very lovely video, well done :-) Makes me fall in love with Rotterdam all over again. Love, Vera from Simple Happy Zen
Hi Vera! That's so lovely to hear - thanks very much! :)
This video was lovely 💕 Keep doing what you're doing!
The tour was liked
Going to Rotterdam tomorrow
Hope you had a good time!
How cool that you visit so often! I agree :) Next time you're there go to Dudok for me! I loved it there 💗
Not the entire city was bombed, only the centre (apart from a area in the west of Rotterdam that was accidentily bombed by the Americans). And the cube houses were first built in Helmond in the south of the Netrherlands.
Yes, I've seen photos of the houses in Helmond. The entire city may not have been destroyed but, in my view, a very significant amount of damage was sustained.
Rotterdam is such an amazing city! Probably one of my favourites
Yes, I love it too! :)
Nice...
Rotterdam has many amazing perks. My favorite actually is just the centre; Lijnbaan, Beurs, Blaak etc. Very much exciting things to see, places to eat and it's not as busy as Amsterdam.
There’s a reason that Rotterdam is not so busy as Amsterdam 😂 There is also a reason why Boston is not so busy as NY. Simple.😂
Love this...Like n subscribed !
