Probably one of the most comprehensive servicing videos out there for the 3 series diesel! You are right about the diesel fuel filter, there are different ones for different engine numbers. The bottom end of the fuel filter that fits into the electric plug has a different internal diameter. Most part stores can issue you out with the wrong one. It has happened to me and not very nice when you have the car jacked up with everything disconnected only to find that you have been given the wrong one. In your car the incorrect one was already fitted to the car.
I used red color G12+ Mannol coolant in all my BMWs. And Mannol 5w30 Synthetic oil for the last 10 years. Plus Mannol automatic gearbox oil. Never had a problem with their products.
Fantastic video once again. You have the satisfaction of doing such a thorough job. I agree the new Mannol engine oil and flush does make the engine much, much smoother. I'm surprised you didn't put the Mannol Ester oil additive in the engine with the fresh oil for better ester protection and smoother running (left over from when the 760Li service was sponsored). Nevertheless, we know the service has benefitted the car from your previous videos. Really impressed that you bled the clutch slave cylinder and the brake fluid. The gearbox oil looked like black chocolate sauce. You deserve to reap the rewards of your attention to detail and hard work.
all top jobs except the coolant swap - there’s load there that’s not recommended…you still should use the radiator drain plug as well as the water pump hose, you should not be running just pure water for any length of time as the coolant lubricates the water pump and other components
Great video. I recently bought an E90 and your videos have been super useful. Not sure about BMWs, but I noticed the slider bolt was similar to that on VWs like Golf 5s with a similar brake caliper slide bolt like the one you showed, but on those ATE systems, they were usually dry slider bolts with minimal lubrication required. Any sort of greese seemed to swell those boots up. Thanks for a great video!
I did hear if you use those pre oil cleaners it does remove sludge but then sends it around your engine and leave some rubbish in there so your new oil carries it around and then blocks other parts up :/ never touched it since! I enjoy your videos tho !!! 🎉
Excellent George going to change my coolant the same way as I dont want to have to take of the intercooler to get at the drain plug I have already done the gearbox oil and diff oil and I change the engine oil and filter every 6000 miles with shell ultra 5w 30 LL04
Great video, but was listening threw the speakers while driving home. Trying to visualise on what you was doing, especially the leaf stuck on the sir box and different size fuel filter. I had that problem didn't know which was for my car.
You really need to bleed the fuel system after changing the fuel filter. If you dont it’s really bad for your hpfp because it runs dry for a few seconds, diesel actually lubricates it.
It still had diesel running through it, that’s why you prime it by turning the ignition on. But it just has some air in that’s why it takes a while to start👍🏻
Yeah that’s the point mate, with these cars it doesn’t send fuel until you start cranking. So it doesn’t prime when you cycle the key. If you go through the bleeding procedure of ista you actually hear the pump priming, which you don’t hear when cycling the key. Try it and let me know.

I heard its not a good idea to change transmission oil if a car doesn't need it, also if you regularly change your oil you never need to use engine flush.
Brilliant. Quick question, I've an F10 520D and seems to be revving a little high in gears 1,2,3... mpg doesn't seem great at around 35mpg... anything obvious I should look at first? Keep up the good work :)

I´m always surprised how much better my car runs after changing fluids and filters. Highly recommended!
Yes definitely 🙌🏼
What a great overview video. Thank you, George. When I changed out the transmission fluid on my Z3 Coupe 5 speed it made a world of difference.
Thanks Jon, yes people really do overlook servicing their transmission!

Nice job George and great to see the service carried out as it should be. We'll done.

Hi George, I worked for Mann Filter a few years back and lots of Bosch and Wix filters were just rebranded MANN FILTER filters
Interesting!
I think you need to crank and immediately stop cranking from the same button.
I don't think the pump runs unless you start cranking.
This video going to help many people I believe. Good job George !! Respect !

If you’ve got an m57 make sure you’ve got 9 litres of oil to hand that beAst technically takes 8.5 bit with a good drain it can take slightly more.

Either oil cooler seal or head gasket

You can just leave the cap off and run the engine👍🏻
Use a obd tool
Love your channel where are you based
Did you replace any drain plugs with new ones also are you changing the glow plugs out for winter

How much does the engine vary from the 320d and the 318d? Do any of these differences affect the service?
Service parts will be very similar if not the same
I think ppl change the coolant to red in these as it lasts 2-3 times longer than blue.
I think it’s more the fact that it’s cheaper to buy
