  • My latest adventure is up Slieve Donard, Northern Irelands highest peak. My little legs have hauled it up Slieve Donard in the past but this is my first time tackling him via Bloody Bridge.
I started my hike from the Bloody Bridge car park just outside Newcastle. The coastal views are stunning from the Bloody Bridge car park . There are also toilets available at the car park.
I started my route by following the path behind the toilets, taking in the stunning views of the cliffs along the way. From here you'll have to cross the road and head down to the Bloody Bridge River. Follow the river for about 1 mile till you see stone posts for the Mourne Wall, at this point you will have to cross the river and walk back towards the coast for a short bit. Keep following the path then you'll have a straight walk up to the old quarry with Chimney Rock Mountain to your left and Donard to your far right with Millstone Mountain also visible to you right.
The quarry itself is a fascinating place with a few old buildings a small waterfall and those with an Eagle eye could spot the old cart rail track on Chimney Rock Mountain once used by the miners.
After spending sometime exploring the old quarry I then headed up the path to the right of the quarry. Once up above the quarry just take a moment to stop and look back. The view down to the coast is just breathtaking with the quarry below you and the view of the route you've done so far.
Stay on the path to you reach the Mourne Wall then cross the stile and turn right to start your climb to the top of the Donard.
I found this route more challenging compared by starting from Donard Forest but this could of been because of the rainy start. Distance wise between leaving from Bloody Bridge or Donard Car Park seems to be the same .
Slieve Donard is Northern Irelands highest peak standing at 852m.
