I used native deodorant. I had none of the symptoms she was talking about. Thank God! My whole life I've been a heavy sweater. I had to use clinical deodorant & would still sweat & get a little funky. But not with Native.
VJ yes, not only did the Native burn me but I had rashes and I did not like the scent when on. I gave it enough use to make my decision to never try it again. I have tried 4x different scents, still the same effects. I just ordered the other one. I hope it’s better 😊🙏🏻
Why I'm leaning toward Native (even though many of you say you like Schmidt's better: on Native website they clarify that their 'fragrance' is indeed all essential oils and they only generically say 'fragrance' for some legal? or FDA? reason (can't remember but they said it was for a specific reason and let us know that it's all essential oil blends). On Schmidt's site they do not say anything about the ingredients of their 'fragrance'. So I don't know if it may have chemicals in it (which I believe can still be called 'natural'...?) or other ingredients I don't want to use. Wish Schmidt's would explain their 'fragrance' ingredients on their site!
Donna C I have used both and they work about the same. However, Schmidt’s is really strong and can burn if you shave under your arms. It is also a bit clumpy. Native is much more easy to apply and doesn’t burn.
This is a great point and something I hadn't considered. I assumed they used essential oils n not time chemical concoction. I'll have to look into this. Thanks for letting us know. Are all the Native ones safe then?
Definitely try the Schmidt’s sensitive formula - I use that after shaving and the regular Lavendar/Sage daily. Another tip I do with the regular one is I blast it with my hair dryer for a second to soften it and that helps a lot if you just want one stick. Love it!
Great video. I’ve been using Schmidt’s for about 2 years now and love it. Only looking at other options because it’s gotten quite pricey. I currently use the lavender vanilla but have also used the charcoal and loved it too. You mentioned the jar deodorant so I came here to comment on it. When I first switched to natural deodorant I used Milk&Honey’s (spa) and it only came in a jar. It was strange but it worked great so I kept using it for about 2 years. When I saw the Schmidt’s stick and it was in the grocery store I gave it a try and loved it. Haven’t tried anything else since.
Yes Schmidt’s actually used to be $4.95 in Target and $5.95 at Walgreens, but then as soon as Native came on the market at $11.95 There’s no reason to charge so much for deodorant especially with arrowroot powder being the first ingredient (Native Brand) Schmidt’s decided to up the price literally to $8.95 at Target and $9.95 at Walgreens A $4.00 jump! I was sooooo pissed! So I decided to make my own!
Native is #1 for me! Schmidt's deodorant irritated my skin (the sensitive formula didn't irritate, but made me stink). I wish I liked Schmidt's more as it is cheaper.
A girl at the health food store smelled SO GOOD, so I awkwardly asked her what she was wearing. All she had on was the jarred Schmidt's deodorant in Rose + Vanilla, so I bought some. It's a little strange to apply, but I like it. I also have the stick Schmidt's Bergamot + Lime and love that when I'm in a hurry! I'm so excited about the jar recycling incentive--totally interested. Thanks!
I appreciate your boldness! haha I'm glad to know you like the jar format, too. Have you been through a full one yet? Since you have both types of deodorant styles, I'm interested to know which one lasts longer. 5 jars seems like SO much to go through, but it is a fabulous program!
I have been through two sticks before I’ve taken out a whole jar, if that helps??? I had a mini jar from Schmitts that went reasonably fast but the full size? Nope. I’m at the “half way mark” roughly. LOVE the product though. 💙💙💙💙💙
@@MaggiesTwoCents the jar works great n lasts longer for me. I’ve emptied so many. Unfortunately no program to recycle in this part of the world. I use it fresh out of the shower so kinda spread it around the arm pit with the spatula so as to not use my hand 🖐 :)
This or That You're welcome, they have a good variety of products as well, have you seen there body powders on there site? I've used that as an extra absorbent on top of there deodorant
Primal pit made my pits dark but i didn't smell. Still looking for a good natural deodorant. I'm trying kopari now but I heard it may give a rash too. With Schmidt's... I smelled! :[
I've been using Native for a few months now but I preferred the men's scent options so I went with a sample set of those: Orange and Musk, Bergamot and Sage, and Eucalyptus and Mint. (listed in order of favorites) I think the Bergamot and Sage was a summer-specific scent, but I bet you'd like it considering your lime and bergamot review. I'm not a fan of floral scents so these were great picks for me and I use all three, though Orange and Musk is my unexpected fav. Hope this helps someone!
I have tried the Lavender and Rose, too much floral, Coconut & Vanilla is nice, but my favorite is the Cotton & Lily, it has a fresh scent like that same feeling you get when you pull out freshly washed clothes, it has a very crisp, clean, fresh smell. Love the Native brand, been using it for about a year now.
I love the Schmidt's Lime Bergamot one- smells awesome, but it made me break out big time. I had to stop using it. Native Charcoal scent works very well for me, and it hasn't caused a rash yet. On my third stick now.
I'm starting my switch to natural deodorant and personally I'm just in love with Native's Powder & Cotton scent. It's a very light and fresh smell and it's just perfect for when you want to smell clean but not heavily fragranced.
I love Native deodorants. I have had issues with other brands too, but not with Native. It’s very comfortable and non-irritating. One other that works well is a fairly new one by Love and Planet.
I use the crystal rock stuff (unscented) first, and then Schmidt’s over it after it dries, and it’s a closer affect to that of traditional antiperspirant-and I’m a sweat-er! I’m considering trying Native now. The Schmidt’s Lime has a weird texture but the Geranium is amazing! I still keep a bottle of Secret for important events though.
I’d say stick with your current routine! While I really enjoy the Native for a day at work, it really doesn’t hold up to a lot of sweating, unfortunately. I always keep that extra Secret on hand too! Haha just in case!!
thanks a bunch for linking to my diy deodorant stain & build-up remover article a few months back (: btw, if you're looking for a bit more underarm sweat protection, you may want to try a 7-day antiperspirant towelette. you put it on at night, let it dry overnight, then you're good to go for up to 7 days. that said, you still may need a little body deodorizer or deodorant (non-antiperspirant) to keep a fresh/clean scent all day. side note: there aren't that many sweat glands in your underarms, comparatively to other parts of your body, so using a 7-day antiperspirant in your underarm area shouldn't cause any sweat-related issues. hope it helps!
Loved this! Very similar struggle to find GOOD deodorant, and now one that won't cause harmful side effects. GREAT REVIEW, thank you so much for explaining the transition details as well!
Great review! I am a Native user and now Native is selling at Target. I had to ask the Native team why should I stay with them over Schmidt's waiting on a response. Price wise $4.69 is more attractive then $11.99. I don't know?
I think that the 4.99 price is permanent for Schmidt's at Target because I just went there recently and picked it up for $4.99 and when looking at the price tag, it wasn't a sale tag.
Today is the day that I went to Target and saw Schmidt's and got it. I have the Lavender & Sage, and wow.... it smells sooooo good! I can't wait to see what happens because like you, Degree and Dove doesn't work/anything gel is out of the question. Secret Outlast is the only thing that worked for me but now its not doing anything from me and my under arms has an odor no matter how much I scrub my poor armpits. I don't even sweat much but my body is no longer tolerating the aluminum. I saw Native as well but decided to try it later if Schmidt doesn't work. I was just so nervous to try anything new because my under arms are so sensitive.
I purchased Schmidt's at a health food store in ylang-ylang and Calendula, the stick version. Besides the gritty texture, I loved it so when I found the jarred Schmidt's in the same scent I grabbed it. Big mistake. The ingredients are a little different and I got a rash using the jar. After using coconut oil to soothe for a couple days (which is not bad as a sub for natural deodorant when not doing much activity or after shaving) I went back to the stick. Much better. Thanks for this because I have been looking in trying Native.
+A Marie Good to know!! Thanks for sharing your jar experience, because I wouldn't have thought the performance between the two would have been so different!
I use the same scent of Schmidt’s ! But it was the opposite for me. I use the jar and one day i saw the stick and grabbed that because it works be more convenient to use and that broke me out. I want to try native now
I love the Native deo it really works well for me. The only problem I have with it is that it leaves oil stains on my work shirts and they are hard to get out.
Your thumbnail shows the Jasmine Tea scent which is from the Schmidt's Sensitive line without baking soda - (has magnesium instead). I have this and it glides on rather smooth - smells nice (but a pretty strong scent). I also have the Schmidt's Vanilla Rose and their Magnesium Charcoal. I prefer the sensitive line over the regular line. Its smoother and the application seems to last longer as well. Great video - I'm new to your channel!
Good to hear this! I just ordered the Native deodorant! I'm so excited. I actually just ordered it because it was rated #1 on Pinterest! Also, i found the website pretty easy. Great vid!!!
I got my Schmidt's 2 days ago at Pharmaca . I love it so far! I got the bergamot and lime. I love lime! I have had many deodorant problems just like you. I have tried all the ones you mentioned and now I have Schmidt's.
The lavender & rose in native smells so good. I went through all those changes you talked about. I just ran out and had to go back to my clinical, my memory has been awful now. I've got to get my Native back QUICK!
I shaved my armpits yesterday, and used Schmidt's Water and Wood. No break out. It's been great. Before I used Old Spice anti perspirant, and it burnt my pits up bad. No such problems anymore.
does it work for odor? i suffer from anxiety and i sweat uncontrollably for no reason i would be sitting in class and start sweating i NEEEDD a good deodorant asappp😭
None of these will prevent the sweat like a traditional aluminum based, anti-perspirant would; but I’ve found that less is more with these deos! Two swipes under each arm using both the Schmidt’s and ZionHealth Clay Dry do a pretty great job for me!
Yes. I had a horrible time with sweating when anxious and tried everything available. I used Native from Day 1, and no longer have any odor that I could notice at the end of the day. I could still smell the Native scent. It is a big life changer for me.
Hey loves! If you are unsure about the Native due to the price , go to Target and try their Beauty Sample box. It has a small Native in the box along with other goodies for $5 . 💋💋 i use Lume btw .
Woah! I still haven't tried the charcoal kind. The name was always rather unappealing, but I've only heard good things from all of you in the comments!
Any irritation or bad rash using Schmidt? I had a really bad rash. I had to stop using it for a while and read some reviews that other people were experiencing the same thing. The advice was to only use a little and not smear it on. i tried that and so far its been ok. No rashes yet.
Hey Maggie! I was at TJ Maxx the other day and found Schmidts Pineapple and Coconut which im starting to try and smells great. Not much variety here. No hmTarget either. Im in Puerto Rico. I have never seen native deodorant here. The first time I say your deodorant video I went home and reviewed my dove deodorant and saw the aluminum ingredient! Thank you so much! I had no idea.
I’ve used the Schmidt’s rose and vanilla stick. It smells really good, but the first time I used it, it gave me a really bad rash and I was really itchy, in my underarms which caused me to stop using it for a while. But then I ran out of my previous deodorant that I had been using, and decided to give it another try and it didn’t effect me like it had the first time, it wasn’t itchy or anything. So I started using it again and i really felt like it had helped with the Odor and the excess sweat, but I’ve noticed that it’s darkened my armpits a lot. Like really badly so Im not currently using it anymore. I don’t know if this has happened to anyone else? I am trying native right now tho.
I tried Schmidts but the arrowroot or baking soda content in it really "tore up" my under arms. My husband went thru a horrible rash stage with Schmidts and I told him it was probably the pore purging process, but I gave him my latest stick of Native to try and I have not heard complaints yet. I still try to warm up my Native but if I'm in a hurry its not as rough to put on. I sometimes have to do a wipe down and reapply during the day with Native, but I think that's a hell of a lot better than chemicals, AND heck- think how many times you reapply chapstick, powder and lotion? I don't think we should expect this product to go strong for 18 hours! It's expensive, but you don't use as much so I think the price evens out. I also think you need to give these new products at least 90 days to let your body adjust before you give up on them. WE have also tried SAM's Natural (not a Walmart affiliate/product) and it also gave us horrid breakouts and rash and sore skin. I say this and caveat that Schmidts and SAM's were my first natural deod to try and possibly that's why I had such a bad reaction, maybe not the product but the detox of 30 years of aluminum coming out? I kept both of those other brands and will maybe use them as back-ups or just try to reintroduce them later on, however, I think we are Native converts.
I prefer Schmidt’s, it did give me a small rash at first once, but I stopped using for a day or 2 and it went away and I tried again and no issues. After a year of using this I don’t have a bad reaction and it last long. I sweat but nothing unusual. Now they have a sensitive line and I find that works just as well, if not better. It’s also softer but smells like a pina-colada but not strong, which I don’t mind (oh and no rash issues). Marshals has Schmidt’s cheap too! 3.99 to 4.99 every time. You just have to make sure it’s well sealed though. My preference is definitely Schmidt’s. ✌🏼 P.S. Native did not work for me at all! It was a dream come true the first month and lasted all day. I tried it and 2 months later I smelled so horrible by the night time. After awhile I would smell in the day and it seem to stop working. I was a bit smelly sometimes (normal), but never like that. It was horrible and embarrassing, of course stopped using it. It was disappointing, but then I tried Schmidt’s and it worked amazingly well. I was afraid I would have similar reaction, but I didn’t and still going strong. Totally recommend! 👌🏼
Love the video! I personally use Schmidt's and I really like it. I have been using it for the last couple of months and have been satisfied with the product. I have tried a few other natural deodorants and none have ever really worked for me...irritation...not working...not feeling the scent..etc.
For anyone getting sensitivity from the schmitz deodorant gritty texture use a blowdryer on it for like 20 secs after that it turns very creamy!! I use the rose and vanilla one and it all day and i smell like roses !
The Schmidt's stops being irritating after a little bit. I think it's just the gritty part that causes the burning. I'm on my second stick and it never bothers me anymore and the lavender one smells so amazing.
The second ingredient is baking soda which can and does irritate the skin when it comes into contact with sweat. Since sweat is a lower ph and baking soda has 7 ph (alkaline) the contact changes your Ph drastically making it irritate. Baking soda can be in your deodorant just can't be the main ingredient or the second one, third and lower is much safer. I hope that helps
I followed the directions on Schmidt's deodorant and it instantly made my armpits start burning so bad that I cried and immediately started taking it off. My armpits were swollen and very tender to the touch afterwards. I've heard far better things about Native so I think that's the one I'm going to be trying next. Hopefully native doesn't set my Pits on fire like Schmidt's did.
I use the native coconut one and I have sensitive skin, I can apply after shaving and it goes on feeling like a thick lotion. It is a deodorant and not a antiperspirant so you will still sweat but for me I still smell like coconuts even after the gym. Also havent had any problems with transfer on clothes!
Very descriptive video! Thank you! 😊 You made me feel very secure about making the switch to natural deodorant. I think I wanna try both of them just to see what feels right for me! I’ve been thinking about making the switch from chemical to natural for years. Thank-you for the information!
I just found a 3 pack of Schmidt's rose and vanilla at Costco for $18.99. I just used it for the first time today. It smells amazing. I was really surprised how gritty it feels but my first impression is I like it. I hope with continued use it will work better for me than other natural deodorants that I have tried. I have extremely sensitive skin. So far so good, but I'm crossing my fingers especially since I have three containers of it now.
I just bought my third stick of Schmidt’s, and their formula has improved dramatically! I haven’t had any issues after shaving like I did with the first stick-hopefully this gives you some hope!! I saw the same deal at my local Costco, but I’m so partial to the lavender scent that I didn’t snag the deal!
I bought the native deodorant in honey crisp apple and have been using it for about two months now. The pros are it's better for you and it dosnt feel wet upon application. But the cons....i stink. And I mean I stink bad. Even after washing and reapplying it starts failing almost instantly. And the smell of Apple and armpit is nauseating. I havnt went back to traditional deodorant because I worked hard to purge the traditional from my system. I saw someone else on here talk about lymph candy deodorant. I'm gonna try them next. But for me native was a bust
Try ClayDry! I am in the process of trying it, and it has held up in the most intense of workouts! I highly recommend the original scent. I think these deodorant companies are trying to get a little too creative with the scents and aren’t considering the effects and how the smells can “sour.” The claydry worked better than my Degree, no lie!
There is a new natural that came out in October 2017. Lume Deodorant, nothing harsh in it at all. No aluminum, no baking soda, no oils and is not tested on animals. it does not stain my shirt pits. You should try it, it really lasts and does not take much, i used one stick for 4 months. A doctor created it based on the science of BO and crotch stink. i have been using it for 5 months and i am a stinky guy in sweaty Texas. even passed a 48 hour test in Florida in summer, wow, Florida in summer. hmm i am sounding like a commercial for the stuff. sorry just trying to be helpful to my fellow stinkers.
Same here, I used Native for 2 months and it worked amazing for the first month. The 2nd month I would smell worse than I ever smelled and I sweat more actually. I always had used natural deodorant since I was very young, so there shouldn’t be a reason for that. I’m not sure why my body reacted that way.
Theoutcast Kid... I had the same problem.. I found it was my soap. You. Also have to be careful what soaps you use. But I also noticed that you have to apply only three swipes. Too much causes me to smell weird
I've tried Primal Pit Paste (in a jar) & Schmidt's Bergamont & Lime (in a jar). In both cases, the reason why I chose the jar instead of the stick was because of pricing. At the time that I purchased each of them, they were both less expensive in jar form. I too, noticed a burning sensation after shaving and then applying the deodorant in both brands. The only irritating thing about applying the deodorant with my fingers is that the product gets stuck under my finger nails and then I have to go wash my hands. Both smell great.
Schmidt's also has a sensitive skin formula for people who get rashes from baking soda. I had better luck with the sensitive formula, but couldn't find a scent I liked. I'm now using Smarty Pits instead which I like a lot better and have found scents I enjoy more.
Thanks for your video comparison! I had never tried Schmidt’s until recently finding it at TJ Maxx for $4.99. Before watching your video, I honestly thought I had figured out WHY it was at TJ Maxx for the low price! It was so rough and scratchy/gritty, I thought maybe it came from a bad batch!!! NO THANKS! I wanted to love it so much (loved the smell), but ended up throwing it in the trash because even after “warming” it on my skin, it still burned and irritated. I recently saw Native at WalMart, so I have been thinking of giving it a go, but for the price I also am considering Lumé. Would love for you to do a comparison of those two!!
On my Schmidt's Lavendar & Sage stick it says not to apply directly after shaving. It also contains baking soda I believe, which some people may be sensitive to. Try a baking soda free one.
I prefer the jar during summer because it's easier to make sure you're not over applying so I end up with less transfer to my clothing. I find the best way to avoid developing a sensitivity is to not use a baking soda formula everyday, usually just when i really need to make sure I don't get stinky.
I use the Tom's of Maine apricot deodorant and love it. I only have to reapply it more than once daily is if I go to the gym and can't shower right after.
I have been using native deodorant for 2 months now in coconut and vanilla. I find it works very good and over time it's performance improves if you stick with it. Just signed up for a subscription today.
grass weeds try the crystal rock deodorant. I’ve been using it for years and it’s the most amazing product. You can only use it after a shower, just wet the crystal and rub it under each arm for about a minute.
I know you posted this a year ago but I wantes to say how helpful this video was! I just out of the blue bought Schmits and I was looking for a good review when I stumbled into your video. I did not know that there were some temporary symptoms and I am so glad you explained! Great video and great first impression to me!
I really look for unscented, sensitive deodorants because I use fragrance & don't want my deodorant scent "fighting" with my regular fragrance. I may try the Native because I tend to break out easily under my arms with many natural deodorants.
I use Schmidt's Ylang-Ylang Calendula scent; very effective in odor control. I have never experienced any grittiness upon application. My kid uses Schmidt's Fragrance Free Deodorant and it's very effective compared to other natural deodorants she's used. In addition, there is no body odor coming from the inner material of her shirts.
@Maggie'sTwoCents i've checked out their deodorants after encountering a small problem with old spice. they all seem fresh but the sea salt and cedar seems like one i would have to try out
I decided to try the Schmidt's after watching TheChicNatural's All Natural Hygiene Routine video. I tried the Rose Vanilla and the Ylang Ylang. Both worked GREAT for odor. I wasn't concerned about wetness. I feel like my underarms became darker but I didn't have any skin irritation. Also, the Ylang Ylang smells good from the container but not as good on me. I think I won't repurchase that scent. My 9 yr old daughter has started wearing deodorant for the first time and it has worked great for her and her armpits still look the same lol. I'm thinking of trying Schmidt's charcoal and also the Native brand.
Love that schmidt's b&l one. Experienced all 3 "symptoms" including that burning but it's been a week and a half using it and was only smelly on day two, burning went away day 4 or 5 and hasn't come back even with shaving. Also tried kopari coconut, liked it too just like that citrusy one better
So glad to hear that your switch was a success after making it through all those yucky symptoms!! It is the worst part, but once it's over you never have to experience it again thankfully!
Now that I've gone through my "underarm detox" and tried both products, I can say I had the opposite effects to your review. I tried Native first and it was fine except at the end of the day I started to stink. I didn't have a lot of sweat, but I applied Native after shaving and had a pretty bad irritation. I tried different scents of Native but still had the same problems. The last week or so I switched to Schmidt's and it is so much better. Warming it up is a little odd and sort of annoying when I am trying to get ready for the day, but I love the Bergamot Lime scent, I don't get irritation from shaving, and I smell great for about 2 days. Plus Schmidt's is pretty reasonably priced at Target for $4.99, not a sale price. I also have noticed that my clothes wash better. I don't have leftover gunk from my armpits and deodorant after doing laundry.
Nice!! I'm glad you've found one that works for you! It makes sense that so many different people all have such different reactions. Thanks for sharing your experience, because I'm sure there are more people that had reactions similar to yours. I appreciation the contribution!!
I have the schmidts in rose vanilla and it burned my arms SO bad! I am considering trying native, their scents are much more exciting to me (especially around this time of year) I am just nervous I am going to get the same burny rash and spend $12 for it.
I've been using Native for about 6 months and it works for me. I sweat a lot anyway even with secret, for the first 2 months of using Native I started out with a smell after 4 hours, but I don't smell anything at all now. I just purchased Lume because I like the idea of using something without baking soda. I'm going to give it a try but I won't give up Native just yet.
That huge jar of Aztec clay mask stuff (popular on Amazon) is great to jump start a pit detox when youre switching. Yeah, it's really weird to put a mask under your arms, but it really helps.
I got the Schmidt Geranium Pink deodorant at Whole Foods. I was surprised that it was more like a paste, but it works 100%. It was 6.99 there, so if Target has Schmidt for 4.99 I will check it out. I'm gonna do a search online, but I was very impressed with Schmidt. This is the 1st natural deodorant I have used, so I might try Toms next because it's so much cheaper.
Nice! I was definitely hesitant about the paste, so good to know you had a good experience with it! Let me know your thoughts on Toms. I'm on the hunt for people who have had good experiences with that one!
Been using Schmidt's for at least a year. Never had a burn and I've used it after shaving many times. I've had some other deodorant products cause that red rash you mentioned, but not with Schmidt's. My only complaint is when I got a stick for a guy he used a lot and it got all over his shirt. Then in the laundry it got all over my black dress. I switched his deodorant to another brand, but I'm still using Schmidt's (geranium).
I have been trying natural deodorants and I love the crystal brand deodorant in lavender & white tea. It’s a softer deodorant and really works. I got it at CVS for around $5
I started to use Schmidt's a day ago. I am already stared experiencing some of the symptoms. My main concern is when I go work out will it protect me from sweating and any odors. Will see! Thanks for the tips!
Literally native deodorant has been so good! I get compliments about how I smell like coconuts at work!!! And I’m a super sweating person. I switched from using men’s old spice to native and honestly my armpits aren’t red and irritated all the time and actually feels like soft skin. I also use scrub to exfoliate my pits though but the native hasn’t irritated or not lasted for me. The down side for me is it is white and does leave the deodorant stain on clothes... still searching for a good clear deodorant 😂
I bought a 3-pk of Native deodorants with different scents and I'm SO disappointed. The most popular vanilla-scented one has such a cheap, artificial smell. I used Schmidt's before and it'll continue to be my go-to.
Was thinking of switching to natural deodorant too. What I buy at the store does not really work for me anymore plus I itch and the way they smell don’t want me want to buy them anymore.
I don't like the strong fragrances from Schmidt's so I tried the charcoal and magnesium one. I loved the fresh scent, but it turned the skin under my arms black, so I had to quit using it. I wish they would make just a light fresh, clean scent that wouldn't affect the skin under my arms. I don't want a scented deodorant that conflicts with the scent of my cologne. I might try Native. I sweat heavily and thus can have strong body odor which is very embarrassing. If I can find an unscented or lightly clean scented natural deodorant that will keep me from having body odor then I'll be happy. I'm sticking with my normal deodorant- antiperspirant in the meantime. I'm open to any suggestions.
Im researching these natural deodorants and I’m 45 having used the hardcore antiperspirants all my life! 😬 btw you don’t look much older than my 20 year old daughter. You are incredibly well spoken and very enjoyable video! 👍
The comments about flushing toxins has me worried... I’m on day 2 of switching and haven’t noticed much sweating or funkiness and it’s like 97 degrees outside with 70% humidity. The lavender and sage scent smell sooo good btw. Smells like I have a bottle of essential oils in my armpit 😏
The Schmidt's jar formula is SLIGHTLY different. I picked up one just out of curiosity, and it does irritate my skin a little less, and it's a tiny bit more comfortable to apply because it doesn't have that gritty texture the sticks does. I think I'll still go back to a stick after this, but... yeah. It's a slightly different recipe and I think it MIGHT last on the skin a little longer than the stick version.
Good to know!! It's hard to beat the convenience of the stick application, and I totally understand what you mean about the lasting time on the skin. I think I mentioned it in the video, I can't remember, but I found that the Native scent does last longer than the Schmidt's formula. Schmidt's recently reached out and offered to send over a sensitive skin stick to see if it would help with the irritation post shaving. I'll be sure to keep you updated on how it works!
I used native deodorant. I had none of the symptoms she was talking about. Thank God! My whole life I've been a heavy sweater. I had to use clinical deodorant & would still sweat & get a little funky. But not with Native.
Same
Native burns
@@VJ-zw7xz no it dosent

Donna C I have used both and they work about the same. However, Schmidt’s is really strong and can burn if you shave under your arms. It is also a bit clumpy. Native is much more easy to apply and doesn’t burn.
This is a great point and something I hadn't considered. I assumed they used essential oils n not time chemical concoction. I'll have to look into this. Thanks for letting us know. Are all the Native ones safe then?
Essential oils IS fragrance. Doesn’t matter if it’s natural. That’s why it’s listed as fragrance.
Definitely try the Schmidt’s sensitive formula - I use that after shaving and the regular Lavendar/Sage daily. Another tip I do with the regular one is I blast it with my hair dryer for a second to soften it and that helps a lot if you just want one stick. Love it!
It didn't work for me, I had to reapply after less than 4 hours. Sorry have no time for that
Great video.
Sometimes Costco has Schmidt's charcoal deodorant for only 12 bucks for for a 4 pack
Walmart has Schmidt's for $4.09 for a single
Nice find!! Thanks for sharing!
My local walmart is selling it for $4.72
My local walmart had native as well around 10 bucks
Mine too, but I noticed it's a smaller size than the one in Whole Foods.
The Schmidt's Water+Wood smells really good. And works fairly well against sweat. And you can get it at walmart for like $4.57
That's what I use. Doesn't even gunk up my white tshirts
Native is #1 for me! Schmidt's deodorant irritated my skin (the sensitive formula didn't irritate, but made me stink). I wish I liked Schmidt's more as it is cheaper.
Gosh I would never think that I would watch a review for deodorants xD but here I am gonna check it out however in Europe it cost double
I just bought the rose and vanilla stick and I already love it. It smells so good!
Which brand? Schmidt's or Native?
Donna C Schmidt’s ❤️❤️❤️
Omg I love that one I have it too what brand is it native or Schmidt
@@Smellygoose0710 did yours harden in like a day?? Mine just hardens, lid on and all? It comes off like powder and is super rough
This or That I haven't finished a jar yet...I don't use tons, so it will take awhile. :)
I have been through two sticks before I’ve taken out a whole jar, if that helps??? I had a mini jar from Schmitts that went reasonably fast but the full size? Nope. I’m at the “half way mark” roughly. LOVE the product though. 💙💙💙💙💙
Tawny Tuppence The rose and vanilla broke me out😕😐
@@MaggiesTwoCents the jar works great n lasts longer for me. I’ve emptied so many. Unfortunately no program to recycle in this part of the world. I use it fresh out of the shower so kinda spread it around the arm pit with the spatula so as to not use my hand 🖐 :)
Its Arrowroot that absorbs the sweat not the baking soda The baking soda is for the bacteria that causes the odor & Primal Pit is great as well
Thanks for the tip!!
This or That You're welcome, they have a good variety of products as well, have you seen there body powders on there site? I've used that as an extra absorbent on top of there deodorant
This or That And Wholefoods carries there line
Yea i use primal paste as well. Better than Toms or others i have tried. Havent tried Schmidt’s
I’m sure it will! I’ve never thought about trying the scents labeled for men, so this was a great tip!
I've been using natural deodorants for 5 years. Purchased Schmidt's last week,
I shaved under my arms and used Schmidt's and no irritation!
Nice! So glad that didn't affect you!
I'm starting my switch to natural deodorant and personally I'm just in love with Native's Powder & Cotton scent. It's a very light and fresh smell and it's just perfect for when you want to smell clean but not heavily fragranced.
My Target sells Schmidt's for $4.99. I just bought one tonight
Nice! That's where I picked mine up originally too! I hope you like it!
Haha just in case!!
thanks a bunch for linking to my diy deodorant stain & build-up remover article a few months back (:
btw, if you're looking for a bit more underarm sweat protection, you may want to try a 7-day antiperspirant towelette. you put it on at night, let it dry overnight, then you're good to go for up to 7 days.
that said, you still may need a little body deodorizer or deodorant (non-antiperspirant) to keep a fresh/clean scent all day.
side note: there aren't that many sweat glands in your underarms, comparatively to other parts of your body, so using a 7-day antiperspirant in your underarm area shouldn't cause any sweat-related issues.
hope it helps!
Loved this! Very similar struggle to find GOOD deodorant, and now one that won't cause harmful side effects. GREAT REVIEW, thank you so much for explaining the transition details as well!
You are so welcome!! I hope you end up loving what you try!
Great review! I am a Native user and now Native is selling at Target. I had to ask the Native team why should I stay with them over Schmidt's waiting on a response. Price wise $4.69 is more attractive then $11.99. I don't know?
just saw them at Target today and jeeez, 12.00 a pop? Nice scents though
I would LOVE to hear if they ever responded to you hahahah
Oh thanks for letting us know they sell at Target
Yes but native has shea butter in comparison to Schmidt’s has that powder ingredient which is grittier to your skin
Wait Im confused.. which is 4.69...Schmidt?
I think that the 4.99 price is permanent for Schmidt's at Target because I just went there recently and picked it up for $4.99 and when looking at the price tag, it wasn't a sale tag.
I got my Schmidts deodorant from tj max for $3. The same one in the video
i've used native for 3 months and my pits still stink bad :/. i'm going to try schmitds after watching this !
Good luck!! I have the exact Schmidt’s scent that you mentioned right now, and it’s been great!
Walmart has both deodorants cheaper. Schmidt’s is like $4.50, Native $11.50.
I love this video. I thought it was just a run of the mill comparative but it was so informative as well!! Love it! Thank you
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you liked it and that it exceeded your expectations!!
Thank you! I hope you end up liking it!!
I got my Schmidt's 2 days ago at Pharmaca . I love it so far! I got the bergamot and lime. I love lime!
I have had many deodorant problems just like you. I have tried all the ones you mentioned and now I have Schmidt's.
I native but it turns any white clothes that I wear yellow this happened for my best friend too
The lavender & rose in native smells so good. I went through all those changes you talked about. I just ran out and had to go back to my clinical, my memory has been awful now. I've got to get my Native back QUICK!
Wow, that's crazy that it had that type of effect on you! Hurry hurry, get the Native stat!!
The Schmidt with Charcoal is so good you can skip a few days!
Woah! I still haven't tried the charcoal kind. The name was always rather unappealing, but I've only heard good things from all of you in the comments!
I use that charcoal one as well & haven't had any bad experiences
Any irritation or bad rash using Schmidt? I had a really bad rash. I had to stop using it for a while and read some reviews that other people were experiencing the same thing. The advice was to only use a little and not smear it on. i tried that and so far its been ok. No rashes yet.
I have the rose vanilla and I love it !!!!!
SniperSam that happens to all of my family but not me which is really weird
Thanks so much! I was using Schmidt's, but I will also try the Native as well.
I use both. I may favor Schmidts a bit more. It seems to treat the smells best for me. Great review of the products!👌
Schmidt's turned my armpits 30 plus shades darker than the rest of my body. No issue with using crystal for years. So Schmidt's is a no go for me.
Schmidt’s works really well. Would definitely recommend.
Interesting! Thanks for the tip!
The Schmidt's stops being irritating after a little bit. I think it's just the gritty part that causes the burning. I'm on my second stick and it never bothers me anymore and the lavender one smells so amazing.
Good to know! I've only heard good things about the lavender scent, so that will be the one I try next for sure!
@@MaggiesTwoCents I got a rash from it, especially after shaving. The problem is that afterwards my armpits turn dark.
Schmids made me break out so bad...... I had a rash under my arm for days
@India Sheffield It's just an allergic reaction. Different ingredients for different people.
Me too! I got a bad rash from it. I was so disappointed cause it worked so well.
Good video..informative...and funny great sense of humor !!!!... have tried the others except Schmidts...you convinced me to give it a try
You are quite welcome!! I’m so glad you’re taking that first step!
Good review. I want to avoid all single use plastic so have started to use Alum block. Working well 👍
I just found a 3 pack of Schmidt's rose and vanilla at Costco for $18.99.
Is the ClayDry a Native product?
I'm now using Smarty Pits instead which I like a lot better and have found scents I enjoy more.
the native can be shipped with same month options as the schmidt's. i just checked website
I've had a lot of people asking about Lume, so I need to look into that one! Thanks for your suggestion!
On my Schmidt's Lavendar & Sage stick it says not to apply directly after shaving. It also contains baking soda I believe, which some people may be sensitive to. Try a baking soda free one.
Check out our Sensitive Skin line here - all baking soda-free: shop.schmidts.com/collections/sensitive-stick-formula 😃
I am looking for a deodorant that lets me sweat naturally but eliminates odor without blocking pours.
grass weeds try the crystal rock deodorant.
You’re welcome!! I’m glad I brought some ease with explaining those switching symptoms! Thanks for your kind comment 😀
The Native Teatree!!!! It's been amazing. Once I got through the process I really feel and smell fresh!
Great news!! So glad you’ve found one you love!
@Maggie'sTwoCents i've checked out their deodorants after encountering a small problem with old spice. they all seem fresh but the sea salt and cedar seems like one i would have to try out
Wow thanks for the awesome advice!! Now I know why I have small red bumps after switching to natural deordorant!! Makes sense😉
I have a pot of natural deodorant my mom got me from Australia and its amazing!
+jackievongrimm I never had any reaction using the Native, if that gives you any hope!! It's a much smoother formula.
Could you be sensitive to baking soda? I've gotten the sensittive of schmidts without baking soda.
If you do get a reaction, I think thier return policy says they'll except it back and pay shipping and reimburse you if it's within the first month.
The native one left me very red and itchy for awhile but after using for a bit it stops happening as much. Just make sure you use sparingly!
It's usually baking soda that does that, try the sensitive formula, both brands have them!
Thanks for explaining about the switch I didn’t know that- now it makes since 🤪
Also, I have the Native in Lilac & White Tea and it smells so good! So excited to start my natural deodorant journey 🤗
That was a great review! Thanks for sharing!
Is Native still working for you?
The jar deodorant is plastic free so is better for the environment so they have that for an option if you want.
That huge jar of Aztec clay mask stuff (popular on Amazon) is great to jump start a pit detox when youre switching. Yeah, it's really weird to put a mask under your arms, but it really helps.
I've never thought to do that --- Very creative! I've heard that mask is pretty intense but super effective!
For how long do you detox?
I have Native in Eucalyptus and Mint and I love the smell :)
I paid 3.99 at Walgreens for schmidts
I bought a 3-pk of Native deodorants with different scents and I'm SO disappointed. The most popular vanilla-scented one has such a cheap, artificial smell. I used Schmidt's before and it'll continue to be my go-to.
This was super informative!! Thank you!! I’m going to try both now lol
Woohoo! Glad it was helpful! Hopefully you find that one of them works!
Was thinking of switching to natural deodorant too. What I buy at the store does not really work for me anymore plus I itch and the way they smell don’t want me want to buy them anymore.
I hope it's a successful switch!
I’m a few years older than her, but thank you! Hopefully this info was helpful for your natural deo research!!
I really really need to pick up this lavender scent! So many people have recommended it!! Haha I’m glad you haven’t dealt with bad switching symptoms!
A lot of people don’t like buying plastic, so the jar is for that.
I’ve heard a lot of ppl say Schmidt’s is gritty but I’ve never had that experience! But I do follow the ingredients and let it warm up

It is a little gritty, but nothing super bothersome, in my opinion!
They have the Native one at Target now.
