At the time twee was most popular (2012-2014), I was 13-15 years old and couldn't afford new clothes to wear that were my style. I loved twee fashion and still do! Now at 22, I wear twee style clothes a lot because I never could when I was younger. Whether it's in style or not, wear what you want to wear! It's better to have your own style you feel happy and comfortable in than to follow the ever changing fashion trends.
Exact same, but I am 29 now and was 16 to early twenties at the time lol I'm glad there is a word for it now, bc I feel like there were different Tumblr aesthetics that overlap a bit, like the mainstream one that people who had very depressing blogs that glorified bad things posted about was more grungy and sometimes... tacky? I feel everyone forgets when talking about Tumblr that there are so many small niches on that website too. I grew up in a very specific small corner, and though there was some overlap we mostly blogged about fandom. Also I disagree with some things said in this video, I would say Rachel from Glee was just straight out preppy rich girl and not twee and I never really liked any of her outfits, if anything maybe some of Diana Agron's outfits and the other minor characters were a bit twee. Also I didn't even know who Alessia Chung was until like... 4 years ago? And I just Googled pictures of her in the early 2010s and that does not read as twee to me, but idk. Anyway I still wear this style, and skinny jeans with a long sweater lol but also more actual vintage too.
Oh nooo I just remembered all the animal faces (mostly cats and owls??) I had all over my clothes! I wanted to be Zooey deschanel so bad. It’s so crazy to me how quickly the trend cycle goes, but hopefully this is just a micro trend. It’s cute but the cycle going THIS fast is crazy.
I had no idea twee was a thing but today I was dressed head to toe in clothes and shoes from 2013 that I’d never gotten rid of 😆. Including knee socks, a circle skirt, and Oxford booties
Yesssss bring it back!! But fresher. I think some stuff can stay in 2014 like the infinity scarves and the ballet flats. But I absolutely love the feminine, dainty, vintage elements of twee. Give me collars and lace and pastels!!!
Agreed with the infinity scarf, it can work but it’s really hard to pull off, but I have to disagree there with the ballet flats, the newer takes of ballet flats are different and there’s alot of amazing and cute designs now! You should check out the 2022 fashion trends predictions from moderngurlz’s channel it’s very interesting ✨
twee just looks so much higher quality than the current mass-produced clothes. the lace, the collars, the buttons, I guess its too much work for companies these days
I've been dressing twee since I was 12 years old, it's just changed from peter pan collars to big and lacy collars, skater skirts to complete dresses, and skinny jeans to trousers, long hair to a 1920s cut. Twee taught me how to dress myself and I absolutely love the style. In my heart, it's still a thing and always will be. 🦊🤎
the tumblr girl aesthetic was a lot more calmer and happier. it was simple and the more positive side of social media. Like bethany mota diy videos or the simpler Rosanna Pansino baking videos. They remind me of a time when social media was more positive and more of an escape from reality. I still have those feelings of nostalgia where i just scroll down to the 2015 posts of influencers where pictures and videos werent as highly edited as they are right now. From the cute mirror selfies to the simple makeup and charm bracelets lmao social media especially instagram and twitter are so much more negative with all of these complicated controversies and politics and cancel culture and filters. It gives me so much comfort to go back to this era and i wish this came back...
Girl Tumblr feminist discourse was peaking at that time, it was really not chill politically imho lol It just then moved from Tumblr to Twitter in like... 2016? But depending what part of Tumblr you were on, you could have definitely have been mini cancelled or lost mutuals for saying something wrong.
I think we're currently going through a shift where people are becoming more modest. Its common from a historical perspective after a time of rebellion/uncertainty, it's just funny that we just got done with making fun of twee and now we're back full circle.
I really saw this coming. Literally this time last year I was like ‘just wait until the 2012 hipster twee fashion comes back I know it is coming’ and when I talked about it to my friends they all groaned because they would not believe it could come back. We were all still tweens (haha!) and young teens when the fashion was popping off but I remember it vividly. I even bought the most twee t-shirt: red and white polka dot long shirt with crochet Peter Pan collar, puff sleeves and lace hem, because I just KNEW it was gonna round up clout and I wanted to be early with the trend. LOL... and here we are... personally though I’ve always loved exaggerated and sweet almost doll-like collar accents in outfits it’s something I’ve stuck with consistently in my personal style for years and I desperately do not want the trend cycle to eat it up and spit it back out, but I just know it’s a silhouette that’s gonna be with me forever.
I was never into the Tumblr phenomenon so I missed a lot of things back in the day, BUT I do dress sort of like that, sometimes. 🤣 It is cute, it looks polished and put together and mixes some of my favorite fashion elements so why not?
I was too young when the tumblr was popular, but I loved it so much So now that I can dress as I want it would be great if it was fashionable and popular again с:
twee was my aspirational style when i was in elementary/middle school back in ye old 2010's, and i did end up dressing in it all this time, even if it is not trending i really love it! mainly because i love thrifting and vintage girly styles a lot! i do put my own spin on it though in a way and incorporate different things to wear.
2:20 The band is called "She & Him", and Zooey actually writes most of the songs herself. They're still around. The 'Him', is M. Ward, and he also has a very good separate solo act which I certainly do recommend checking out...
I'm so happy to see a new video from you!! i didn't know that this style had a name, but it reminds me of a more elevated version of how luna lovegood dresses in the harry potter films! I've always loved luna's style :) what do you think?
I think it's interesting that you mentioned Cassie from Skins because while I do think she fits the aesthetic, I usually think about Emily Fitch from gen 2!
I try not to get sucked into nostalgia too hard, but seeing all this genuinely did bring me to some better place lol. Twee doesn't need to come back in 2022, but if anyone wants to make some period TV show set in 2012 where the main character's dressed in twee, I'll be so down to see it.
I was never on tumblr, so I had no idea this style had a name or subculture with it. But I do remember the cats and the scarves and the Peter Pan collars. To me, the ballet flats don’t have any negative connotations, it’s the big, chunky scarves. Oh dear they didn’t look good on anyone and they were such a nuisance to wear! Never bring those back please. Lol
I’m probably a lot older than your viewers… but I loved twee style way way back before social media Stores like Delia’s and even Forever 21 in the earlier 2000s sold really cute items that were super girly and twee and of course Kate Spade ♠️ RIP … I still have sone of this pieces I guess they are considered vintage now lol I about 20 years wow I’m old 🤣
I watched your video bc I honestly didn't know what this was. I know what the word "twee" means, but I was living overseas during this time...and apparently didn't miss much, lol. A lot of it looks like stuff my mom forced me to wear as a kid, thus I hate it. I'm very tall and like clothes that are oversized, dramatic, often gender-neutral--so this cutesy, girly stuff with babyish little details is basically the antithesis of my style. On the other hand, when you mentioned Alexa Chung, I thought, "Oh really?" I think she's so cool. I love plaid, I like preppy clothes, I like "dark academia" or just "academia," but I dress like the professor, not like a middle-school student.
Twee apparently came out in the late 2000s. I don’t even remember that kind of style… maybe the closest thing was some of the Gossip Girl fashion when it first came out.
I’ve never heard of the name of the style but my eldest daughter always dresses that way naturally. It’s just something that would look good on her. The Peter Pan color of the cute little jacket the cute little skirt. I think it’s adorable but I think that they should be right in Mary Jane’s also.
I associate Twee with the Taylor Swift "RED" era so much. Also I will never forget all the mustache print from this time period.
Oh my gosh yes the mustaches EVERYWHERE
Agree on TSwift! And also around the time she released 1989. Seriously not that long ago! Like 2014-15.
@@siblywest5731
I was picturing the music video Begin again. Taylor had a very Twee look in that video.
At the time twee was most popular (2012-2014), I was 13-15 years old and couldn't afford new clothes to wear that were my style. I loved twee fashion and still do! oh wow this is me

I'm 53 and love twee fashion ❤
I really want to wear clothes like that but people will sure make fun of me, "what are you wearing, are you in 2013?" Yes, mentally I am
Si yo también esa edad más o menos tenia
I am almost sixty-eight and have always been twee. Even now.
Yesss rock that twee!
ModCloth, HelloGiggles, Zoella!
I had no idea twee was a thing but today I was dressed head to toe in clothes and shoes from 2013 that I’d never gotten rid of 😆. Including knee socks, a circle skirt, and Oxford booties
I never stopped being twee lol

I never stoped wearing ballet flats, lol
Ballet flats are the best though😭
twee just looks so much higher quality than the current mass-produced clothes. the lace, the collars, the buttons, I guess its too much work for companies these days
Nah, ballet flats have been always worn.
The good thing about fashion is that it comes and goes, I never stopped wearing Twee, and now it's back! weeeee
I've been dressing twee since I was 12 years old, it's just changed from peter pan collars to big and lacy collars, skater skirts to complete dresses, and skinny jeans to trousers, long hair to a 1920s cut. I think the twee aesthetic is honestly rlly cute but personally my style resonates much more with the indie sleaze aesthetic from that time:)

hair bows, ballet flats and pops of red had a DEATHCHOKE on me in the mid-2000's. And I still have fringe bangs to this *day*

Oh I really want it back! I wasn't old enough for it first time around, I love owls, deer and this kind of look.
twee was my aspirational style when i was in elementary/middle school back in ye old 2010's, and i did end up dressing in it all this time, even if it is not trending i really love it! mainly because i love thrifting and vintage girly styles a lot!

LOVE TWEE FASHION! I'm actually really happy if it does come back. I love pastels, collars, oxfords, tights, all of those things already!
Your videos are always researched so well! I love the aesthetic series😍
Thanks Lillian! I love researching and trying all the different aesthetics too ♥️
2:20 The band is called "She & Him", and Zooey actually writes most of the songs herself. They're still around. The 'Him', is M. Ward, and he also has a very good separate solo act which I certainly do recommend checking out...
HHahaha!! I am totally dressed up like a "twee" right now.
ive never heard the word "twee" but it is identical to gamine style and soft gamine style
omg girllll THIS JUST TOOK ME BACKKKK!
I had so many mems and nostalgic waves making this video! 😂
@@FabSakker i love ittttt!! 🤣
I'm here because I played the word "twee" in scrabble and my son argued that it wasn't a real word.
Twee is my winter aesthetic for sure. But moving on for now but it has a place in my heart ❤
How adorable is your top please... 🥺😍✨
It is called the My-cup-of-tee from the brand Review. They make it in many colours!
I'm so happy to see a new video from you!! i didn't know that this style had a name, but it reminds me of a more elevated version of how luna lovegood dresses in the harry potter films! I've always loved luna's style :) what do you think?
Luna is totally whimsical twee! I was also obsessed with Hermione's red dress that she wears to the wedding in Deathly Hallows part 1 😍
Thank you, i love ballet flats too haha !
Haha I have to defend them! They get so much unwarranted hate 😂
I never knew how the style was called, but I clearly remember it. I think some elements are really cute.
quintessential aspie girl style
I've been waiting for this moment since twee left tbh.
Flats are back for at least two years now (Miu Miu ballet core comes to mind)
this would be a horrendous aesthetic for me personally, but these girls rock it. i was a tumblr girl but more into the kawaii fashion.
I have just found your channel and I just can’t get enough! What a great and understated channel, you totally deserve more subs!!!!
Omg thank you 🥺 that's so kind of you!
I think it's interesting that you mentioned Cassie from Skins because while I do think she fits the aesthetic, I usually think about Emily Fitch from gen 2!
Twee has been all over my Tik-Tok for you page recently! Also, could you maybe do a style icons video on Audrey Hepburn? Love you Fab 💕
Your make-up in this video!!! 😍😍😍
Thank you Barbette!! 🥰😘
I try not to get sucked into nostalgia too hard, but seeing all this genuinely did bring me to some better place lol. Twee doesn't need to come back in 2022, but if anyone wants to make some period TV show set in 2012 where the main character's dressed in twee, I'll be so down to see it.
A bit scary that 2012 could be a "period" tv show now lol but I would be down to see that too. Blast from the past!
Ballet flats are comfortable as heck and go with any look in my opinion
Love the way you present and tackle your topics 😊.
Why don't you do more videos on men's fashion and style!!!!!!
I can totally do more men's fashion videos! Let me know any particular topics you would like me to cover 🙂
FAB! Happy New Year 🥳
Happy New Year beautiful!! 🥰🎉
Miss Patina quality- at least what I bought so far - was actually amazing!
I was never on tumblr, so I had no idea this style had a name or subculture with it. But I do remember the cats and the scarves and the Peter Pan collars. Amazing! You definitely have to hold onto those pieces for years to come! Can't believe early 00s is now considered vintage!! 😬 haha

I agree that the twee style was very much 2010 - 2013 ish. It was dying off in 2014.
Twee apparently came out in the late 2000s. I don’t even remember that kind of style… maybe the closest thing was some of the Gossip Girl fashion when it first came out.
No Twee for me! It is so adorable though. 💕
Fair enough! We can admire others rocking the twee 👯♀️
the top you are wearing is gorgeous ! please let us know where it’s from
It's from Review and called My-cup-of-tee top! They normally make it in a few different colours each season x
@@FabSakker thank you ! 💕🤍
There’s always room for a bit of twee ☺️

oooh yes the peter pan collar and mary janes combo is so twee! 💕
Alexa was dating Alex Turner back in the day, I remember watching their photo compilations to Arctic Monkeys' songs, lol
To me twee is very Audrey Hepburn so like her it’s timeless.
At that time we called twee girls hipster girls! What's the difference?
It definitely peaked in 2012. 2014 was already veeeery different!
See I am more of a masculine dressing emo girl but I have ALWAYS loved the twee fashion
Hola soy venezolano, me gustan tus vídeos podrías poner subtitulos? Saludos
Anyone knows any good online stores for clothes like these??
I personally don’t like twee but I love ballerina flats and I guarantee you that they are coming back!
Why can't anyone come up with anything new
