Im a 31 yr old male my parents loved this guy listened o him all the time when i was growing up now im the adult i find myself after work having a quiet beer in the shed listening to Gene Pitney one of my fav vocalist of all time
Gene also thought he might have Irish descendants. Whenever he stayed at the hotel where i was a telephonist, he had me going through the phone book making a note of everybody with the name of Pitney! He rang each one, asking if they might be related! Also I knew back then his correct age - he was a year older than me - which is why he always called me 'little girl'! :)
Great interview and I will buy the book. Gene is my all time favorite male solo artist. There's many I love but Gene's special. I was 11 when I first heard I'm Gonna be Strong and I was HOOKED. A voice like no other.
Gene and Roy Orbison were the first pop artists to sing a Top C in a modern pop song. Gene's 'I'm Gonna be Strong' and Roy's 'The Actress' and later, 'A love so beautiful' from the Mystery Girl Album. My wife and I named our second son 'Gene', because he was such an influence on my life. Yes, a special voice and a great loss.
We have all experienced some type of sadness in our lives but he had the gift to evoke emotions via his voice. Many popular songs of the 1960’s had heart & soul unlike the singers of subsequent generations. Music is just not sung like this anymore & the writers are also either lacking or they’re just not promoting music like this anymore. Writers like Burt Bacharach, who wrote many a hit song for pop singers back in the day, just don’t seem to exist anymore. We’re talking close to 60 years ago so the likes of this type of music are long gone. Thankfully, the recordings still exist.

Amazing thank you SO SO VERY MUCH FOR THIS!!!!!!
So proud to be in this book,
I miss you dearly Gene💜💔🙏🎼🎹🌈
His writings were so sad. Did Gene live a sad and lonely life ? Most of his songs make you want to cry .
Like what?
No he was very happily married
Gene was a lovely, happy laid back kinda guy. Every one who met him, loved him. Yet, despite his fame, he was the most unstarry person I ever met.
@Dream Dream Serene so glad to hear that because I always loved his music .
