Critics once said Corea would never surpass what he had with Return to Forever. Just goes to show how much critics know. 5 virtuoso musicians, led by the great one. RIP Mr. Corea.
After the electric band had been together for 5-6 years they got into this incredible zone. Such incredible musicianship. Never got to see this performance, I saw them a few times but not this tour for some reason. Such a blessing to hear these guys.
I was still 19 years old and watched this concert in London.. It's a really unforgettable moment...Rip Chick Corea, my great inspiration Jazz Pianist since 2019
Sidewalk... What a powerful intro that track has. So much anticipation and then the delivery in all electronic triggering Weckl glory. Gotta be the greatest 5 piece band ever, till this day. A quantum leap in live gigging performances.
Ahenkli Davul Zurna Keman I had it on cassette but it got lost through the midst of time. I knew this concert was out there and once I’d found it I had to upload it! If you want to message me I can provide the link I got it from, it takes ages to download and the files need recoding to MP3 but it’s worth it! I must have nearly worn out the take I had of this gig, even at my tender young age I knew I was witnessing something spectacular
J Bass Thanks man, I knew it was out there because I had this on tape briefly (only half the concert as I recorded from the radio) and lost it!!! It was first aired on BBC3 around 1991. I did contact them (BBC) a couple of years back but unfortunately, they refused to send me the recording....until this came along🙌....hero👍 Thanks again pal Bill
@@AhenkliDavulZurnaKemanZaffa I love the fact that the three of us are now finally reunited with this wonderful concert after all of us recorded it on cassette and lost it, so long ago. I too wore out the small section of the concert that I recorded on a sub-par tape. Reading through some of the other comments, there was definitely something very special and memorable about this performance for many young, impressionable minds. I've unleashed the Elektric Band on my kids (10 and 6) over the last few years, and they will quite happily listen to Chick and the boys via RUclips. Full circle, you might say. 🙂
Holy.....THIS is the broadcast I listened to on Radio 3 (I turned 13 in 1990). I've been wanting to listen to this again for so long. Hopefully you'll excuse this long comment. :) Thank you SO much for posting this! I was just messing around with the radio that night and I caught the end of Side Walk and all of King Cockroach before the break (which if I recall included an interview with Keith Jarrett). I quickly recorded what I could on tape (now lost after a move to the US, but my brain can recall virtually every note of King Cockroach, I played it so much; the Marienthal solo is absolutely divine.). I was captivated by the musicianship, and it introduced me to a brand new world of music that I hadn't known existed. They were at the top of their game here, for sure. Again, thank you for doing this! And absolutely fantastic that you were actually there!! I had no idea who the individual musicians were, except for the handy namecheck of the band from the announcer during the interval and Chick himself naming Eric and Frank. As you know in pre-internet days, it was so difficult to get information. It wasn't until probably a couple of years later, an Elektric Band CD (Beneath The Mask) showed up in the tiny music section of my local WHSmiths, and I pounced on it.
You must be the same age as me, I recorded this onto cassette at the time but it got lost, thankfully someone kept it! I was there, and they were amazing. Btw Beneath The Mask is my favourite CCEB album!
@@JBass42 Yes same age - and I thought I was the only 13 yr old listening in! Many tracks on Beneath The Mask are all-time favourites of mine. 'Illusions' in particular is, I think, the band at their very peak. I love the more avant-garde CCEB stuff, but that album got them back to their pure fusion roots. Thanks again mate, you really are a hero to many looking for this lost gem! 💎
