- Despite his family's baffling generations-old ban on music, Miguel dreams of becoming an accomplished musician like his idol, Ernesto de la Cruz. Desperate to prove his talent, Miguel finds himself in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead following a mysterious chain of events. Along the way, he meets charming trickster Hector, and together, they set off on an extraordinary journey to unlock the real story behind Miguel's family history.
In another modern Pixar classic Coco take me on a emotional rollercoaster.

You gotta watch another awesome Pixar movie: *Turning Red (2022)* sometime!! 😃😁
lol him choking on chorizo was actually a dirty joke 😅
"Spicy Sausage" according to published reports.....😂
You didn't know what chorizo is but you knew who El Santo was? Talk about whiplash. Anyways, Dia de Los Muertos is basically a "nobody is really dead if you remember them/keep them in your heart" kind of celebration. When somebody is "forgotten", according to folklore, they truly are gone.
Whiplash was his assumption that the line he meant was “tits they sag to the floor”- that was whiplash 😂
@joshuacoldwater that is the joke, though. Ernesto censored the lyrics because Miguel was there.
theirs a saying that people die three times
first when they die
second when they are forgotten by the people who knew them
third when the echos they leave in the world fade away (think people like Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, and Mozart)
@@joshuacoldwaterlol that’s what the adult version is. They changed the lyric cause kids movie
I'm the opposite, I knew what chorizo was but I have never heard of El Santo 😆
I have been a Hospice Nurse for over 24 years and have taken care of many people with Alzheimer's, which is a type of Dementia. Quite often they may call a family member by the name of a different family member because in their memory the current person may remind them of the other. Also music is stored in the brain differently that regular speech. So it is possible for someone to be able to sing when they have not been able to talk. Also for some people they can remember things that happened decades ago but can't remember what just happened. This movie does a good job helping explain it. I will also admit that the last scene makes me tear up every time I see it. Well done, Pixar.
It's so amazing seeing how people suffering with Dementia just light up when they hear familiar songs.
Someone who longs to fit into their family.....ENCANTO! You'll love it!!!!!! (Especially if you loved "Coco"!!!
There's part of the movie, when the character of Don Rickles smiles, shows his brackets and says "Gracias", shows that his dentist has an altar with his photo on it, with a great big brackets smile on there. With a little of attention, it shows that the altar is on the same consulting room of Finding Nemo.
That means that, an Australian dentist, celebrates Day of the Dead. And that means that anybody can celebrate and embrace this tradition, you don't have to be mexican, you can be any race you are or being in any country you want. You can celebrate the life of your deceased ones, the memories you have with them, and put some of the things they loved while alive.
Day of the Dead is a cultural shock of what you're being taught, about letting people go. Day of the Dead is all the opposite, is about never letting go, is about always have your loved ones on your memories, because the moment they are forgotten, is the moment they are truly dead.
33:15 to be fair it's great if somebody is old in the afterlife because it means they lived long enough in the land of the living. When you see young skeletons and the children in day of the Dead it's actually kind of depressing. To me that means they didn't get a chance in life.
That's the cool thing about 'Remember Me'. All throughout the movie, you keep hearing it played as de la Cruz's hit song, which just sounds like your typical generic love song. But then we find out who the ACTUAL writer of the song is, and what the actual original meaning of the lyrics are, and it becomes more personal and heartfelt
🎶 "Remember me, though I have to say goodbye / Remember me, don't let it make you cry" 🎶
Fun Fact: Southwest Airlines promoted Coco (2017) by having one of their Boeing airplanes decorated with artwork from the film.
Location Location Fact: The look of the Land of the Dead is inspired by the Mexican city of Guanajuato, which has colorful houses placed on the hillsides in such a way that they look almost stacked.
Music Enthusiast Fact: Miguel was originally only going to play guitar and not sing. When the director, Lee Unkrich, discovered Anthony Gonzalez was in fact a talented singer, it was decided Miguel would do both so Anthony could share this talent in the film.
Mythology Fact: The orange flower seen throughout the film is the Aztec Marigold (known also as the Mexican Marigold or the Cempasúchil). The flower is used in the tradition of Dia de los Muertos in México to guide the deceased to the living. In México, the Xoloitzcuintli (the Mexican hairless dog depicted in the film) is the guide of the deceased through his/her way to the Mictlán (the underworld, the place where all the souls go after death).
From a cultural standpoint, Coco means the world to me. The sheer respect for Mexican culture in this movie is just incredible. The music, the food & the preparations for The Day Of The Dead. The culture itself is part of who I am and it's very important, as is the message of the importance of family. Also, the customs agent in The Land Of The Dead was portrayed by funnyman Gabriel "Fluffy" Iglesias.
the reason Italians love Luca.
Especially the people that like me comes from Genova and that region.
a masterpiece
To answer your question, I don't know what the policy is, but Imelda's siblings are on the ofrenda - the twins, Oscar and Felipe are her younger brothers. Miguel therefore calls them Tio - Uncle. So Generation One - Mama Imelda, Tio Oscar, Tio Felipe. Generation Two - Papa Julio (married to Coco), Tia Rosita (sister of Papa Julio). Generation Three - Tia Victoria (the daughter of Julio and Coco, and sister to Miguel's grandmother). Great reaction, thanks.
That is life mijo... old people go, and new borns come.... But we must enjoy every minute, of family life.
Bro was trying to hold his tears and not cry at the "remember me" part when Miguel tried to make coco remember Hector😭😭😭
It's such a beautiful movie. As someone that celebrates Dia de los Muertos with my family, I feel they portrayed it so good! The flowers are Marigold, from what I was taught it symbolizes the connection or journey between life and the dead.
Mexican culture believes that when you die, you go to the other-world. And once a year, the gods allow you to return to your family. There is a bright orange-yellow flower that only blooms during october-november. In Mexico it's called Xempasuchil (in English it's pronounced: sehm-pah-zoo-cheel). The bright color of the petals guide the spirit of the dead back home to visit their families.
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico.
Miguel is voiced by Anthony Gonzalez.
Welcome to the Pixar "trail of tears" club Jason. All but one person I watched have broke down. It's all good mate.
Cempasúchil, that's the name of the orange flowers
Marigold in english, Aztec/Mexican marigold to be specific
My mom is going through this right now - I have Zero Hispanic ancestry- but I am going to put up an offrenda of my own once Mom goes. It's the last thing I can do for her.
As a mexican, i do know what you know about Frida and about the accent . Don't feel that way ,it's not like we spanish speakers say English words the right way too
You earned my subscribe with your step-grandad story. Felt like when in school and the teacher drops some crazy lore out of nowhere and I eat it up everytime lol
15:10 it would have been "knockers" rather than "knuckles" to keep with the rhyme
It’s “nipples.”
"Where's the cat? GET THE CAT ONE!" -Best Dog Dad.
Coco is special. The opening is Miguel speaking to the Mariachi, who is played by Two-National Treasure, Cheech Marin.
Charro is the only non-Mexican performer featured as effigy.
The ofrenda was important to be preserved because without it, Miguel would have not left the graveyard that night.
I love this movie. I watched it the first time with my father and he passed away not long afterwards and it help me to grieve for him but it also hits different this time we found out my mother have dimension. Love your reaction
They are marigold flower petals
Is that Mexican heaven? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Lol
Oh my God when he said I don’t know my culture is cheeseburgers I guess” I started laughing hard and so out loud. But Americans have the 4rth of July and Halloween. Those are very fun and special holidays also.
Halloween is actually an Irish Festival with Celtic origin
I just realised that the neck of Miguel's guitar has a row of teeth with a gold tooth in the mix (that he likely drew from the remaining photo of his family). Ernesto de la Cruz doesn't have a gold tooth but do you know who does? Hector.
It’s crazy how you know random niche things about Mexico culture but didn’t know what chorizo was 😂 loved your reaction dude
For me, a musical is a movie where people sing unrealistically. Like, they just sing what they’re thinking with no planning or forethought, and characters sometimes sing songs together, again, with no forethought, even when they start singing the same words at the same time. All the music in Coco is performances, so although it has a lot of music, Coco doesn’t count as a musical for me.
I love watching Coco reactions, and this was a good one. It’s always neat to see at what point people figure out that Hector’s the real great great grandfather. You were aware that Hector and Miguel had better chemistry before you figured out the twist, and that was cool.
2:02 uh oh is right 😂
37:15 I think you can. You can technically Marry into the family. Especially if you have kids. Having kids would definitely seal the deal.
I'm just having a marathon watching Coco reactions today, then your video just pops up just when I think I have watched them all.
Me caíste muy bien amigo. Excelente reacción
Coke on chorizo means putting a certain human appendage in your mouth.
And Coco claims the tears of yet another reaction channel. Good, good.
And yes DBZ is just part of Mexican culture at this point.
This movie would normally be banned in China for the supernatural (spiritual) references, but upon watching it the censors were so moved they allowed it.
Amé tu reacción. Saludos desde Veracruz México.
Happy Feet 1 and 2 are great animated films. Hope you consider reacting to at least the first film.
15:15 I thought the same too until I noticed that the rhythm means that only the word ‘n!pples’ would go there
It's very common for the ofrenda to include at least two generations so they didn't incude imeldas parents to keep it simple I'm sure
Hey! As a Mexican and American I encourage you to try to set up an ofrenda (altar) for your beloved ones that are no longer with you. Try to spend some time remembering them and even telling stories about them to your friends and family. You may discover why it was an ancient tradition among the native cultures that lived in what today is México (and other countries)... I exonerate you of any cultural appropriation, we are all humans, learning from one another. I have been doing it for the last few years to pass the stories to my young children about my father and grandparents. It is therapeutic.
Chorizo is slang for 🐓
Her teeth stuck out and her chin stuck in
and her knockers they dragged on the floor.
If you want a movie that kinda subverts the idea of the kid not wanting what their parents want I recommend “Moana” !
Isn't Moana a prime example of that idea though? She wants to go explore the sea, but her parents want her to give that up and become chief of their village.
@@TriStain69 idk i think its different because she wanted to do both like she loved the ocean but also wanted to be chief and loved her family and tradition
"Hidden Gem" my hairy white ass. This was an instant classic and very popular movie upon release. You literally have had to have been living under a rock to not have heard of this movie. It's just as popular to react to this movie.
If you want overlooked movies that people hardly remember or react to, I highly suggest:
The Thief Of Bagdad (1940)
Charlotte's Web (1973)
Wizards (1977)
The Hobbit (1977)
Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes (1978)
Popeye (1980)
Inseminoid (1981)
Heavy Metal (1981)
The Last Unicorn (1982)
The Flight Of Dragons (1982)
The Secret Of NIMH (1982)
Annie (1982)
Spacehunter: Adventures In The Forbidden Zone (1983)
Fire & Ice (1983)
The Adventures Of Mark Twain (1985)
An American Tail (1986)
Solarbabies (1986)
Cherry 2000 (1987)
The Gate (1987)
Hell Comes To Frogtown (1988)
Robot Jox (1989)
Kaena: The Prophecy (2003)
Not everyone has time to sit down and watch every single movie that is released at certain times. Clearly people have lives taking care of themselves than sitting down all day watching movies. Some movies are accepted to be watched screen-to-screen without copyright infringement so don’t be too hard on your favorite reactors saying “I’ve never heard/seen this movie” relax and watch your favorite movies yourself and when they react to it then you can put your two cents in.
Inside out has nothing against coco, that movie was about a girl going thru personal feelings cause she moved cities?? This movie was about a girl who lost her father thru a murder and grew up her whole life not knowing about him. Doesn't compare at all and Im mexican so im biased as well lol
so did my mom she had memory loss
The only worthwhile part of this movie is the tear jerking grandma scene at the end. I will say i enjoyed it more than Soul. But that’s not saying much.
Id say what we saw is a type of purgatory, the final death being the real journey
