Great video Kevin!!
Thanks! When you spend time in good company, everything works out fine. :)
Thanks for the video!
👍😊
Putting winches on mine one on front and one on rear just in case and I'll feel comfortable going just about anywhere
Thanks for watching! Winch in the rear is nice! But I haven’t seen anyone who makes a rear bumper with a winch cradle yet for Sprinters; so you’ll need to carry a hitch mounted winch, which will affect your departure angle when in place. If you want winching in front and rear, I would add a hitch in the front and then mount the hitch cradle to the front or rear as needed. Honestly, if it were me, I would just get some good oversized AT tires, air compressor, deflate every time you go off road, and carry traction boards in case you get stuck. If you push the limits, maybe a rear locking differential for additional traction.
Awesome vid! What's the name/location of the trail?
Thanks for watching! The water crossing was at the Onion Creek Trail. 👍
What were your thoughts on the agile vs evictus suspension? Did you get to ride in both?
Sorry, I was at SEMA and couldn’t answer sooner. Yes, I’ve had the AO Rip kit for almost 3 years and am very familiar with suspension, I also drove in the van with the Evictus to compare. My thoughts are that the Evictus is superior off-road, particularly at high speed with the rear long coil and strut suspension. However we didn’t drive much on pavement and it was much softer than the AO, which might make it less ideal on road. Also, the Evictus coils can’t be installed with stiffer/thicker leaf springs which might be an important consideration for those who have heavy conversions. I would wait on the Evictus on road performance before buying, unless the Sprinter will be used mainly off-road.
were there any 170 4x4 that went on this trail with you?
No, but I think Tim from Adrenaline Vans with John from AO did it with his 170 the next day but he has 34”+ tires. If you go slowly you can definitely do it in a 170. There’s only one river crossing in the middle that is tricky for ground clearance.
@@gearforexperiences thanks! Did you all air down?
@@kodiaksride Yes, you’ll want to air down a little for the river rocky parts and the additional traction going in and out of the river. However, most of it is easy and smooth rolling dirt. It also depends how long you plan on going on this trail since it connects to a network of trails once out of the canyon. There’s one 180 degree turn that you might have to do a 2-step turn with a 170, but after that, it’s pretty much straight to the top. 👍
Why Would you want the Mercedes van over the Ford?
Good question! 🤙 Because 2022 and prior the Sprinter had 2hi, 4hi, and 4Lo which made the Sprinter a 4x4 not just AWD. The full-time activated 4Lo combined with low torque of a Diesel engine and the Mercedes 4ETS traction control made this van the most off road capable from factory. The 2023+ Sprinter are only part-time AWD which makes them closer to the Ford but it still has low torque and 4ETS. As of today, I would either buy a used Sprinter 4x4 (2019-2022) or get a Ford Transit converted to a true 50:50 4x4 by Quadvan or Quigley. If you are going to get the AWD Sprinter, i highly recommend contacting Agile Offroad to get an ARB air locker installed.
Not off road vans . Let's count the issues ppl had . 4x4 econoline!!
Not off road stop pretending.
