To my shrunken brain, this particular harpsichord sounds not like any other harpsichord, but exceptionally clear and tender, especially noticeable in melody notes of slow movements. Some kind of planetary alignment, I suppose, combination of skills; thanks to composer, instrument maker, performer, recording engineer. _--Waving from Istanbul._

This Mietke is a special sort of in-between harpsichord. I heard Jean Rondeau perform on one. It was strung in brass and I was only twelve feet away from it. It was really nice like this one sounds. Pierre Hantaï is awesome of course.

This instrument may have originally been owned by Gustav Leonhardt. Hantai was a sometime pupil of Leonhardt, and a great admirer of the late maestro, and I read somewhere that both Hantai and Skip Sempe, also a pupil of Leonhardt, both purchased harpsichords from Leonhardt’s estate. You have it exactly right in what you say about its ’timbre’; its is a magnificent instrument!

I've always loved Bach, but your comment is insightful. A family member of mine hates the harpsichord because they say "It's sounds too snooty." I guess there is some truth to the fact that chamber music was usually only played for the wealthy. However, it seems so obvious to me that Bach's music goes beyond culture. This could be an interesting discussion.

    [ENG]
What an absolutely magnificent interpretation! Pierre Hantaï never disappoints and always surprises with his ability to combine a baroque interpretative spirit (with its articulations, punctuations and phrasing) with originality (which includes well thought-out ornamentation). This results in musical discourses that are always new. The dialogues between the right and left hands are limpid and very well articulated.
The short pause in the Allemande (00:15) lets us know that the movement is to be appreciated and enjoyed with the necessary calm, breathing slowly.
    The Sarabande is poignantly beautiful...

    [PT-pt]

According to Eric P. Dollard ( Electrical Engineer and author ) Bach's musical language is identical to that of Electrical Engineering ( Math / Geometry / Ratios ) . And here also in this recording are all manner of emotive micro retardandos ❤ .
