Special thanks to Malleo for voice-overing, and to everyone else who trusted me to finish this completely on my own. This video took nearly 32 hours of work to make, so giving my channel some support would be very much appreciated. Note: At the time of writing the script (February), SH was still the reason for BC3 ultra being a longcut, but as of this being uploaded, it is now faster again (thanks Justin).
I've been a massive follower of the Mario Kart speedrunning community since MKWii's release and can safely say this was one of the most unbelievable years I've witnessed. A game 14+ years old being suddenly revolutionised and everything being flipped on it's head is a ridiculous thing to watch unfold. This video was incredibly edited / presented and incredibly commentated, and these genius TASers have all killed it this year yet again. Here's to another year of ripping the game apart.
It's so awesome what the mario kart wii community can accomplish. I'm not involved in the community, but watching the new developments every year is always so fun and interesting.
This TAS Awards was well edited and well commented. An outstanding job to all the TASers, especially Kierio and Malleo for this amazing video. I liked the fonts, graphics, the editing, etc.
Incredible work by everybody! Imo, the lower activity of 2022 was completely overshadowed by the outstanding amount of discoveries! P.S. I know superhopping is probably the most useful discover....ever, basically being as important as some basic driving mechanics like wheeling... But the ghost KCP0 ultra, despite demanding very very specific circumstances to even be doable, it's such a crazy and fashinating discovery, a bit underrated imo 😅
It's crazy to me that mg cliff climb hasn't been discovered waaayyy earlier, I'm sure i can speak for a lot of former 11 year olds and say that we all tried climbing up the mountain and slide to a different area lol
just an idea, but for 2023 i think you should show the full videos of each nomination (or at least the winners). i'd watch the whole thing, don't care how long it is.

Congrats to all the award winning TASers, but there's no way this will reach further than the "immediate community." It's paced way too slowly and blurring the background gameplay doesn't do any favours.
they're more than aware this won't reach further than that and it's not even their intention lol, mainly cause it's obviously a niche community even within the mkw community and why do you think the vid constantly mentions tech an average viewer wouldn't even know and they don't go over it? maybe cause the target audience are the TASers and people who follow the TAS community's work closely? make no mistake, the awards are made by and FOR the TASers to celebrate what they've accomplished each year and if you think this or any of the TASer's vids throughout the years were made for views you're either delusional or simply don't know this community very well as for the actual criticisms you made: - pacing? have you watched any award cerimonies before? cause this was pretty short and to the point in comparison. this isn't a quick youtube top 10 vid, it's an awards cerimony lol. y'know, events people attend to celebrate and get recognition for their work? isn't it to be expected for them to be properly introduced and even have speeches ready considering they might be getting an award? anyway, i'm gonna guess your issue is with the nominee clips rather than the amount of awards itself or w/e cause you're just impatient to see the winner? i'd maybe agree with you if the clips weren't edited, but they actually are precisely to quickly showcase the key parts in case the audience either needs a refresher or simply never watched those TASes before - i can see why you didn't like the blurriness but i think its use is justified here considering the audience's meant to pay attention to the criteria being explained for each award before revealing the winner for obvious reasons and clearly not distract themselves with - like you mentioned - the background. i do think, though, that it maybe could've been toned down a bit but yea

Incredible work kierio, glad tas awards has continued :)
Glad to continue the legacy :)
New TAS Tech was the best part, and i hope this year we find more new techs so it can go to MKWii TAS Awards of 2023

I hope I someday make it into awards as well
I’m sure you can make it, it’ll just take a few years
I find it funny that the MARIOkart TAS awards use SONIC Mania OSTs, not that I'm complaining (I'm a Sonic fan myself)
Sonic mania has one of the most reliable OSTs for bgm
Oh man the side hopping feels like fast rmx side dash. I wonder if it is also faster on smk.
Also gratulation on all the winners and thank you so much for all the cool tas video to watch.
W FINALLY
what track is that in the background of the first award
Grassland Mountain, specifically the secret area
Best 3 lap defo rainbow road
RR TAS was 2023
Oh yeah
Has anyone tried Super Hopping on Moo Moo Meadows?
Yes, it’s faster. It will take NU 3lap down 8 seconds from 1:12 to 1:04.
