    On the inside i can feel that I want to socialize with people, and I’m not really a shy person, but extreme self-consciousness gets in the way and I can’t get rid of it

      That is literally exactly how I feel. I'm not shy, I like socializing. I'm just so self-conscious and self-critical makes me hate being social. I feel like I can only be myself when I'm by myself. Its so frustrating!

    I struggle with this every waking second. I'm self-conscious about how i look (i feel like i look too angry naturally), my posture, the way I sound when I talk, my build, etc. I can't talk to people without my voice breaking and freeze because of my anxiety.
    I feel like everyone else is normal and I'm the weird one that can't connect with anyone.
    I feel like everyone else has their lives together meanwhile here I am feeling miserable and going nowhere in life.
    The WORST part about this all and what makes me really sad are all the experiences that I am missing out on with other people. I always wonder where i could've been right now if I never dealt with this problem.

      Hi Micheal, I hear you. Life is a journey to accept ourselves, get comfortable in our own skin and start loving ourselves as we are, where we stand. When we do, our beliefs and thoughts changing inside, our reality changes as we are constantly emiting and projecting our inner world to our outer experience. Doing that inner healing work is life changing. If you're interested in resources to help you email to support@thedailypositive.com and I'll send you info and links. 😊💛👍

    Thank you for this informative video. As a 54 yo man who has lived my entire adult life with extreme social anxiety I can attest to the fact it is an absolute living hell. One factor I will add that may be a bit of wisdom for a young person that is dealing with self consciousness or social anxiety, stay away, from weed (pot) please, I know it's the IN thing now but it will only magnify & intensify any negative feelings you deal with right now! After years of smoking pot (in the 70's) it made my life & the negative perception I had of myself a thousand times worse, I quit when I realized what it was doing to me, but have lived with the damage it did to me ever since, it isn't a harmless drug as some may tell you, it's a life wrecker. Thanks & may God bless us all that deal with social anxiety on a day by day basis, it is horrible...I know.

      Jenna Coralenne don’t worry I feel that way too Sometimes Every Time I go somewhere that I feel Like I don’t belong there I try to think of something that makes me feel happy I try not to think about school or the people there or what their going to say to me or other people about me. I don’t really hate how I look but there’s those kinds of people in your life that you meet that you don’t like and that they make fun of you in front of your friends or other people that happened to me lots of times but I got threw it and I’m still having that same problem. I’m in 8th grade so I still have High School left and Hope I meet better people And Don’t Get People like that ever again. Nice to see that there are other people like me. Wish you the best of luck my friend hope you find nice people. It’s gonna take a long time I have a feeling but We’re gonna get threw this. See you later 👋

      I hear you. In these times when others judge or we feel the anxiety in this way, it calls for a lot of self love and self acceptance. You are enough, you are perfect just as you are, just as you were born, and being yourself in every way is all that is needed. What others say and do is not about you, it's a reflection of their mindset, their feelings, their stuff. What we most need to know is that we are good enough, more than enough. You are. Tell yourself this every day. 💗

    I get very self conscious when I am around White people, sometimes I even avoid entering a restaurant if I have to be the only black person in there. I am a South African, who is very much non racist however how I feel about racism gets to be wrecked by the attitude and disrespect I receive. In the end it lives me in a state of permanent confusion, resulting in this self consciousness around them.

To you I send my best wishes - that you may walk ahead empowered and confident in yourself and your values, with the strength to hold them in any situation. The world definitely needs more of us shining the light of equality, love and understanding, even though it's clear that at times it is extremely challenging when facing the unconsciousness of other people. With love, Bernadette

      I am sorry that there are so many arseholes in this world. There is something very wrong with people whom are racists.They are either afraid or jealous. They must be very insecure people. I could never understand how it feels to be in your shoes. I imagine I'd would feel very frustrated and angry at the injustice. Racists ruin it for all the rest of us. Please just try to be yourself, remember there are loads of people in the world who don't judge others by the colour of their skin. It may help to seek out a job or volunteer position that takes you away from these narrow minded people. If you are doing something that is helping people or the planet you get the opportunity to be around kindhearted people where the colour of someone's skin makes no difference whatsoever. All The best.

      YES! i never wanted to admit it, but as a minority myself, all it takes is ONE event where someone is prejudice against you and you feel like everyone thinks that way, which is not true of course. I feel as though around white people i get quite nervous because of how they really feel, i get dirty looks all the time for being south asian. There was once an app called yik yak where people could anon say anything they wanted within a local community and the nasty racist feelings of the public really made me feel bad as they would all say things such as "curry smelling dirtbags" and so on, and so talking to people elevates the self consciousness.

    I learned so much within the last few months with my life long anxiety and having pure O. It does nothing but deliberately destroy the mind and it’s so hard to over come. I applied mindfulness into my life style, although it’s a work in progress, I’ve made some leaps and boundaries. Then I found your video last week and it’s eye opening how well you explained why social anxiety is causing us such difficulties with dealing with reality and people. I have been watching this video specifically when I feel down and it gives me a boost every time. I’m going to start watching more videos because I can learn a lot more from you.

Ive always thought about it and based a lot of my physical interactions around this flaw. But now that it's pointed out, I just feel like such a failure. I could convince myself before, that it's not a big deal and the people I care about wouldnt point it out. Now that someone did, I can't help but feel like I don't belong anywhere around anyone. By far this video is the most helpful and eye opening video about this kind of stuff. I feel lucky coming across and feel that it deserves more views. You made me truly realize where my social anxiety problem comes from. I always feel comfortable with myself and my family members. But when I go out into the world (for me that is high school) I feel lower and like I’m not at the same level as them. Like their life is so much better. Maybe because when I was little my parents really didn’t expose me to other people but only my family. I realize now what I lack and see in others is how they can easily interact with others and that their life is so much better than mine. I’m definitely going to rewire my brain and my beliefs which is probably gonna be hard. Definitely gonna use affirmations which I’m also familiar with (I listen to subliminal messages here on RUclips)

    I’m 42 years old and I wish this information was available to me when I was in my teens and early twenties. What you’ve described about avoiding situations is exactly how I handled being self conscious when I was younger and it has shaped my life in a way that I am now unfulfilled because I haven’t really been living life. I am so determined to change things around for myself now and quickly and I guess, catch up on myself. I still feel somewhat self conscious in certain settings but I now think I know what to do to overcome it. I hope it’s not too late for me and I’m not too set in my ways but I just want to make changes and feel good about myself. Thank you for this video.

    Thanks Bernadette. I never knew I needed to see this video. As someone who loves being in front of a crowd for my job as a ranger, and enjoys to be social at parties, I realized that I was not accepting myself when I sought the online connections with other gay men... and that I felt much more self conscious around arenas where I was meeting potenial partners. Now I affirm : I am great, I am Sierra This is who I am, Take it or leave it :)

    I have figured out that social interaction is so hard for me, I almost don't want to go out because of the possibility to come into contact with some people and not say what I am supposed to say, not what is appropriate, not act the way I should. It may seem stupid but it is an actual struggle for me. I say something and then I am thinking and re-thinking about what I sould say or what was right. Sometimes, I skip saying something and then think that people may be insulted somehow. And then, I feel so guilty and can't get these thoughts out of my mind. I am afraid of messing up with people and I feel like I constantly do no matter what. I don't know If anyone else feels this way, I think I am the only one that deals with this kind of problems.

    • @Bernadette_Logue
      @Bernadette_Logue  6 лет назад +1

      Hey. Trust me you are definitely not the only person who goes through this. At the root of this, the main issue is a sense that we are not good enough or missing something. In fact, even though you may not believe it or feel it, you are more than enough and not missing anything. Often we get heavily conditioned by our experiences, upbringing and society generally... to believe we "should" be, do, speak and behave in certain ways and trying to meet an expectation we form in our minds or comparing ourselves to others. Instead of the freedom to accept ourselves just as we are, we end up stuck in a loop of not accepting or liking ourselves, second guessing, judging, worrying and on it goes. The most important thing is to heal any beliefs you have about yourself that are limiting. I use a combo of tools when helping people, you'll find a lot of self guided resources here and on my website. Plus I suggest mind mastery and EFT/Tapping. 💖 Love, Bernadette

    To get healed from self consciousness and negative self image, do a great deal of self-care, slow down in life, accept and honor all your feelings on a daily basis, name your feelings, stay around trusted positive people who can lift you up, support you and not judge you. Then you can slowly slowly go out to different places and practice and strengthen your skills.

    Useful video. Doing public speaking courses are very effective. In life there are only 2 problems--mind and the body. To feel relaxed reduce negative thoughts. Be careful what you feed your mind. Avoid comparing yourself physically or mentally with others. Your breathing is closely related to the brain [mind] and gives relief from stress-anxiety. For a relaxed mind observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for 10-15-20 minutes or more. You can sit or lie down, anywhere-anytime with eyes closed. Never meditate with expectations but with awareness. No deep breathing. Don’t fight your thoughts. With practice the mind will relax. Keep a reminder to observe your breath sensations throughout the day and night --before sleep, when reading, at work, at home, when travelling etc with eyes open or closed. Like me make this a lifetime habit to have a better life. Best wishes--Counsellor.

      Hey Peaches! So glad this was helpful for you. Yes when it comes to shifting those thought patterns and liberating ourselves from the conditioned mental/emotional cycles that we get caught in, we can indeed train our minds into new pathways to replace the old beliefs/thoughts, and at the same time release any emotional energy that relates to the old ways (mind/emotions are linked together). To help you, below are 2 resources:
      1) For MIND: Free Masterclass I run on mind mastery with foundations for shifting beliefs/thoughts:

      2) For EMOTIONS: I love the EFT/tapping technique, to release all those difficult feelings (here is an article about it if you're not familiar with it, and I also love the resources that the team at The Tapping Solution provide):

    I am 26 and I have had this problem since I was very young. It is very deeply wired in my mind. It seems like it was embedded in it. I am extremely awkward at public places like at work. I know I'm late, but thank you so much for this video, it's so relatable it hurts! I'm mostly self-concious about my opinions, thoughts and ideas, which is ridiculous. I know that I shouldn't be self-concious about such a normal thing, but I still am and question myself all the time. Somehow I simply cannot be at ease when it comes to someone having a different opinion than me and my mind constantly looks for ways that my look on the matter is wrong, childish or stupid, although I'm aware that opinions differ and that there are no "wrong" opinions. Because of this I'm extremely uncomfortable with speaking about my ideas out loud or stating my opinion in a discussion with people way more confident than me! Honestly, it's a huge problem in school, most of my grades suffer because I just can't bring myself to speak up in class. Anyway, much love from Germany!

    I’m so self conscious, mainly about my looks, what I wear, etc. It is so difficult for me to wear a short sleeve shirt because I am a lanky person only on my forearms and wrists. I’ve tried working out and eating more but it just doesn’t grow muscle. I only feel comfortable at home, and I’m a massive home body. Anyone have any tips? I’m so worried about what other people will say about my arms or thinking about what I look like to others.

      Self love is a journey for all of us, the best thing we can do is to focus on building that love and relationship with ourselves. When we feel at home in our own bodies and at home in our own company, it provides a stability and assurance as we go out into the world. A few tools that I find useful are affirmation audios focused on self acceptance, love and confidence, plus using EFT (tapping) to release the difficult emotions and patterns. 💛

    I have struggled with this in regards to seeing boys in social situations. My mind goes all ballistic and tells me to NOT stare at the boy as they might find be 'desperate' and in turn follow me home. Therefore I do everything in my power to look away from a boy and actually not look at them as I feel fear of being rejected, if they decide to look at me.
    It is SUCH strange limting belief and it really does debilitate my everyday life experiences.

    I'm 17, and I know I'm a good person full of qualities and I know I'm smart. My insecurity comes from my social skills, my self steem and my anxiety, not my strength or my intelligence. Before I go into a conversation with someone I don't feel so comfortable I'm already thinking that I'm not capable of smiling with confidence and speak fully as miself. I feel like i can't smile because it makes me vulnerable and when I do smile I feel frustrated bc I feel worried that my smile is coming out as fake...

    I always wondered why certain situations trigger severe social anxiety. I cannot function in classroom environments, especially all women. I become very bizarre and cant speak or look at anyone. Going to parties without drinking enough where I dont know anyone, i act weird and i dont know why, I act totally normal in most situations....well sort of, sometimes i avoid buying food and stuff out of fear. I've been like this for 22 years, its frickin hell. Once a person has seen me like that, if I've met them in that situation I can never be normal around them. It messes up jobs as well, people think I'm not all there in the head or something, it's really upsetting. I was abused as a kid pretty badly and I know I would have been okay if that did not happen

    • @Bernadette_Logue
      @Bernadette_Logue  5 лет назад

      Hey Jess, I hear you and acknowledge how difficult this is for you and all you've been through. As you probably already know, it's very much about a journey to come home to yourself, to feel comfortable in your own skin, to feel love and acceptance for yourself, and once we feel that way inside, we become more comfortable in different outer situations/environments and around other people. Often when we go through trauma and difficulty growing up where things happen to us, outside our control, or we receive negative messaging, and it affects our view of ourselves and the world, that flows into our adult life and how we feel not just about ourselves and relationships, but how comfortable/safe or fearful/anxious we feel in any given situation. I personally have found that the most effective way to deal with society anxiety and awkwardness is to go to the heart of the matter, being the relationship we have with ourselves, and healing that within, so that no matter where we go or who we are with, we carry that strength, safety, comfort and love within us. If you need resources to help you please do reach out. For example, I have free audios like affirmations and meditations to support people. Also, while these tools are helpful, nothing can replace the necessary 1:1 support and professional help for overcoming trauma/abuse. I send much love your way. B

    I have social anxiety and self consciousness is my biggest problem. I
    have seen many help videos and articles talking about how were not do
    avoidance to social situation and and try to put ourselves more in it
    and the social anxiety would go down. They dont understand that the
    problem is, once I do put myself in social situation, I get self
    conscious and i am not able to perform, and it sucks to be in that
    state. And this is the cycle. If I could perform and enjoyed being in
    social situation why would i avoid it in first place? So I need solution
    to how not to be or how to be less self-conscious when talking to
    people.

    I have it mostly in jobs when a high up manager in the business drops in and they will sit there on their laptop, so they aren't bothering no one but them just being there, makes me become more self conscious and so I become more careful what i say and speak less and want to do less as i dont want to make mistakes or do something and be judged negatively and it effect my job.
    I have adhd so ive been let go in a lot of jobs due to not hitting sales targets regularly or due to one to many mistakes so it leaves me with self consciousness when they are there.
    I become worried cause im worried of me and my performance being judged negatively

    • @Bernadette_Logue
      @Bernadette_Logue  5 лет назад

      Hi Dean, I hear you! You're not alone in that type of nervousness/worry about being around higher up managers. The key is to work on building your own self confidence, in who you are, and what you have to offer. We all make mistakes, ALL of us, including all those managers that make you nervous :) They are as human as you are, with their own challenges, weaknesses, strengths, past mistakes and pressures/nerves around their higher up managers too! We're all trying to do our best and often we can become lost in wanting to "impress" and not mess up in front of people we deem to be higher than we are. The more you reinforce that you're equal to anyone else, as a human being, and that your natural self is ENOUGH, the more you'll be able to relax. We have to come to accept that in any situation where our true self is not deemed "enough" for someone else, we are better off moving on and finding a tribe we better fit (that goes for work, social, relationships etc). It would also help to release that worry and fears based on past experiences of having made mistakes and been let go from old jobs... using EFT/tapping to release those fears will be really helpful. Here's a link to a "how to" article for tapping in case you're unfamiliar with it...

    I am suffering social anxiety right now. Especially that I have hyperhidrosis. I am afraid to be with many people always. Because my mind tells me that everytime I sweat I am smelly 😔 its so tiring everyday thinking that I'll have to deal with this kind of thing. How I wish I was someone with normal sweating.

      Hi Anne, sorry for the delay in replying to your message. I hear you and am sending love your way. Dealing with something like this takes a great deal of self compassion and self kindness, as it's particularly challenging just the condition itself, and then we have the weight of our own mind noise on top of that. I wonder if you might be willing to challenge your thoughts on this and to create a new series of thoughts/mantras to say to yourself, things that are true and supportive and kind/loving to yourself, to start practicing a new mental frame around this. Also I highly recommend EFT/Tapping for processing the feelings of anxiety and fear that you feel, it's so helpful and easy to learn. With much love, B
