Being a military man 28 years of my life has made me tough and I rarely shed tears, but this story softened me today and I did just that. Thank you Elder Holland.
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
I always looked at the elder sons trial a little differently than jealousy. I interpreted his sentiments as too guarded. When someone you love lets you down too often or cuts you deep enough, it's hard to let your guard down and open your heart to them again. Sometimes those prodigals sons "come back" for a short time then tear another wound into the hearts of those who have let them in again. Perhaps the most painful thing for the elder son to bear was the idea that the his younger would break their father's heart again and the elder son would have to again try to mend the pieces back together. The world would support and condone the elder brother in his beliefs, but the Savior offers a better path. Either way you look at it, the elder son needed healing power from the atonement in order to find peace just as the prodigal son did.
Really needed this today. My son has been gone 4 years, still waiting for him to come home. This video brought tears to my eyes. I hope my heart is ready and willing to forgive if he ever comes home.
Thanks for your comment. We hope you feel comfort and peace through your faith in God and our Savior, Jesus Christ as you wait. www.comeuntochrist.org.
I pray your son comes to you as soon as possible, do not stop praying for him, let the impossible to GOD, your knees and your faith are the most powerful weapons you have...your son will return to you and you'll enjoy the miracle, I do declare it!. GOD Bless you!!
When you withhold forgiveness for someone, it is like taking poison and expecting your enemy to die. It is one of the most harmful things we can do to our soul just because we sin differently than someone else. This is a great message that anyone from any faith can learn a lot from. Truth is truth regardless of your religion. This message is one of the great truths. Thank you for sharing this!
At some point we will all be one of these 3 characters. The dad who forgives and welcomes, the brother who forgives and drops the ego, or the prodigal who needs to humble and come home.
The brother who decided to forgive he didnt have ego . He knew what was the right thing to do and what was required of him to do and if he knew this then why didn't the other know how to do this ?.The younger brother was selfish and egotistical with no shame.
There are the angels who remain with God, at his side, serving with obedience. The prodigal son is lucifer, who is the angels frustrated with God and leave to do it better themselves, eventually realizing the way is with God and return home, becoming the Christ after reuniting with God and eventually becoming one with him, becoming one with the creator. Then as God, we watch as our children go through the same cycle and reuniting with us, and at that point in our evolution, when our children become us, the father, we move up in consciousness to a new level. As above, so below.
A message that my heart needed to hear today. The Lord loves us and we don't need to compete for his love and acceptance. All he wants from us is to love him, the way to do it is loving others, specially those people that are hard to love.
is that right I guess you need a pie in the sky to feel better , as if everybody knows what god is or wants , they need a crutch to make it maybe every one does
I had to watch this again today to remind myself that we are ALL on our journey back to our Father and each of our courses are different and varied, but we all have the same goal.
Hi all, since 2004, it's been my biggest dream to make a movie on this great story of the Bible in an Indian context.... After grace of God, what matters is money and money... When I watched this video I felt so good... Beautiful thought and cinematography.... congratulations to the team....
I love this story from the scriptures. The Savior's teachings are the best. He knows how to touch hearts and heal them. Thank you Elder Holland for your insight!
a very good message from the Elder Holland. To imagine this situation in my life is now...My brother is no more. but my brother and me were very good friends . We played each other and worked each other and enjoyed each other. But now ....
""GREAT'' This story of "The other Prodigal son '' is really beautiful , ultimatelty at the end ALL ARE HAPPY & ALL ARE AT PEACE IN CHRIST. and that's the beauty. GOD BLESS YOU ALL TEAM MEMBERS FOR PREPARING THIS VIDEO.
I always wanted an extension of this parable, and so glad it came, from Elder Holland too. I really relate to the elder brother in the parable when I read it in the scriptures. And I’m glad envy was addressed here.
My best Sunday School teaching topic that i am so passionate about when i teach the teenagers in the Church. The Words of Jesus Christ Himself. The Love of the Father towards the lost son. God bless you.
I love these! they always help me understand the conference talks WAY more! With a video to help me SEE it instead of Listen to it. Seeing helps me understand way better than reading, and listening. Thank You So Much!
Different people have a different way of learning. Some more through visual, others audio, others doing etc. It’s said a picture is a thousand words, if a picture is a thousand words I wonder how many words a video is.
It’s hard to be the ‘other son’, it’s hard to see everyone praying for and worrying about the lost one, and you pray for them too. When they come back you’re genuinely happy they did. But it’s hard because no one celebrated all those years you kept to the straight and narrow.
True. However, it is important to realize that the son who didn't stray didn't have to go through all the misery and deprivation the wanderer did. Also, in the biblical story it is not implied that the prodigal got any further inheritance rights. The one who stayed faithful probably inherited all the remainder of the father's substance, which presumably increased after the prodigal took his share.
Excellent video and wonderful principles taught. None of us are perfect and will all fall short in life. Am grateful we can all be forgiven and given an opportunity to learn from our mistakes and find true joy. Thank you for this video
Always have liked ELDER HOL. insight. This, is one of my Fav. Stories of the Bible because the Father was nothing like my Father. MY, DAD would hav totlly disowned me& never looked back!!!!!
The greatest challenge is not from the devil, but from the one we love the most. We are the winner, not because we have conquered the enemy, but we have conquered ourselves.
Really good video! About the prodigal son!! With Elder Jeffrey R. Holland narrating!!!! I just love him!!!! Love this story & love this take on it!!! Thank you very much!!!
Hello dear brother or sister in christ. I want to say, that whatever you are going through, jesus is with you,no matter what happend, jesus is with you. Call to the lord, and he will answer you! I wish you peace n love ! May god bless you!!! 💞
I do not believe in god, but I think this sends a good message. Not that god loves us all equally, but WE should love all equally even under the circumstances.
I have come to believe that perfect love is impossible without God. Having experienced so many blessings from Him, and growing in love through Him, I cannot help but believe.
My Ma and Pa from youth conference taught my family this last year. My family thought that we deserved a victory of a series of games that we had played against others families. When another family received the grand candy prize due to some unknown technicalities, my family was pretty upset and jealous that they got the prize we thought we deserved. My Ma and Pa taught us that night that our situation was similar to that of the elder brother's. We didn't take in what they were trying to teach us. It wasn't until later that I let my resentment go and understood their point.
I do admit that there have been, are ones in my life that I've had to pray that God would help me to love them, I wouldn't call hate that I felt, but it wasn't love either! I'm doing a lot better. Amen! 💐❤🌹💙🍄💚🌸💞💛🌹💜🌸💙💐💜
Note that the Prodigal returned because he had hope that he would be accepted, even after wasting his inheritance. If any of us have people dear to us who leave for a season, I hope we can still show them our love, even if they live riotously and contrary to our standards, so they know where to come when they are ready to accept us back in their lives.
Funny, I didn't live righteously; not much worked in my favor. Once I was married, I learned I was the only chattel. It was the mentality in our home, kinda like Archie Bunker was everywhere!
Being a military man 28 years of my life has made me tough and I rarely shed tears, but this story softened me today and I did just that. Thank you Elder Holland.
David Blakley Thank you for your service sir. I salute you.

I will surely pray for his home coming
Sounds like you already have forgiven him
"The green-eyed monster of jealousy" This parable teaches on how to overcome it. And love others as Christ loves us ♥
Iove especially when it is difficult

I needed to hear this message. As always, Elder Holland is spot on.
We need to humble our self, this can only be done with the wisdom, peace and love that only our heavenly father can provide.
I love Jeffery Holland. He is truly an prophet of God.
God teaches us to love your family, neighbors, and enemies, so that you may understand on why are they hated or jealous, amen

One of my struggles too

i can relate too, i have learnt alot from this video

Jesus Christ is the Son of God, who ever believes in him will have eternal life in heaven.
What a beautiful story
Almost shed a tear too🐸
Amenn Jesus Lord !!!
This is such a good story. I have heard of the parable of the Prodigal son but I never thought about how the other son might feel about this.
I do not believe in god, but I think this sends a good message. Not that god loves us all equally, but WE should love all equally even under the circumstances.
Absolutely.
May I ask why
Regardless of you believe in God or not, if you have love. That's enough to say that there is God.
I have come to believe that perfect love is impossible without God. Having experienced so many blessings from Him, and growing in love through Him, I cannot help but believe.

Luke chapter 15 is all about bringing the lost ones and rejoicing when they are back.
This video opened my eyes to this story and the application of it. Very few of us remember the other son (or daughter, in application).
great story! awesome picture at the end with all them togather
Awesome!
This video makes me desire that I had a brother or at least have two sons and be a proud dad
First time I heard anyone talk about the eldest son as a prodigal but then forgiving.
This is a Nice message!
It is good and heartwarming to
I never got to ask my brother for forgiveness he died of a overdose in some place alone. I guess thats how it is sometimes.
It was good that he located himself to his Dad's house and they found him
Still here at 2024❤
Beautiful. Also, the thumbnail makes this look like Mission Impossible: Holy Ghost Protocol

Amén God is wise
Excellent video with excellent acting.
