Great video Firebird! As someone that's starting to get into MOC Building again for Brickworld Chicago, this video was very much needed. I love how you simplified the process especially when it comes to what you bricks should purchase when it comes to type, color and amount. As you know yourself, it can be overwhelming lmao
I started with Legos with my granddaughter. My son in law had played with Legos when he was young. At some point, she drifted away from Legos like her father did. I became the defacto owner of the bricks. This included all her set themes we put together. DC heroes (with a related Underwater world), Dinosaur Park, Space, Pirates, Fantasy (including combinations of Minions, Angry Birds, SpongeBob, Mixels, and Chima). I recently have started building again using a minimalist approach with parts acquisition, and just highly modifying brick sets...
Right now I'm making a kinda spooky like MOC, it's a trench with a few trees that are falling down, and one bigger open space, kinda like a crossroads between the trenches, there's a little bridge above it, I'm not sure if I will put some ground above the trench but I might, unfortunately I ran out of some bricks I needed, especially those 1×4 and 1×2 wooden wall pieces.
This was SUPER helpful cos it pointed out something I'm guilty of... I went and bought minifigs for 3 different moc ideas and I've only done one of them...shooting too big and not all that well I might add.
(1) plan for the space the MOC has to exist. (2) plan who is the MOC for? A MOC tells a story so who is the story for and what story do you want to tell? (3) how much time effort and resources you need for a MOC. in a large MOC you can break a MOC into modular sections. (4) if the MOC is to be moved several times then plan and draw up a design of each MOC modular section which can be moved separately..
I appreciate your content so much! Thank you for this video. I've been wanting to start moc builds, but literally didn't know where to start. I also didn't know MOC meant "My Own Creation!" Sheesh haha
I don’t make enough money, but I really want to get into MOC building with my boyfriend when we get our own home. This fuels my inspiration until then!
You can also buy pieces of sets from other companies. Bluebrixx is a german Company (for example), selling all kinds of sets from different brands. They also have their own stuff which is pretty great. The castle bluebrick (Blaustein) is usually sold out due to the amazing design and also is great for parting out. Heck even the Discounter Lidl started selling brick sets a few years ago with insane deals. Their sets had a typical value of 3-5 cents a piece. Lego isnt a bad Brand at all, but if Lego isnt your only desire for sets and parts: Look around and see what other brands are doing. Bluebrixx for example has the startrek licence. Bought some of those for my Dad.
@@OneCreath-nj2ef the companies? No. If hey make Lego looking figures? Yes, cause they have a trademark in the figure and some bricks (most aren’t protected though). I still buy them myself and you will not encounter any issues with buying fakes as a private citizen in Germany at least, however other shops and companies? Yeah, they get sued in Germany by Lego for that. Not even fakes, but actual other figs by other companies which doesn’t look like Lego figs. We had plenty of cases here in Germany in the last couple of years with that. Bluebrixx and Kiddi Craft are now releasing their own figs based in the lawsuits and technical issues Lego had with the other figs in the upcoming months. Panlos is making the kiddi figs, however we don’t know yet who will makes the Bluebrixx minifigs. Panlos is also probably to use these figs in Europe too, cause then they can sell their sets here without issues… if said figs are popular enough I assume. The presale already works good as far as I can see. The exclusive batch is already sold out.
I've bean watching brick sold studios for about 7 years now and yet I've never built my own full scale moc I've recently gotten back into it but unlike 7 years ago I have a kid now so I have the money I just gotta find the time
My first moc I remember was a star wars thing I built a city with random pieces the mullineum fallcon and the death star duel I did all that with random figures and bricks
I have a few questions. When people build mocs do they build it first online on an app like studio 2.0 then buy the pieces and build irl or do they just use the picies they have around the house and just start building.
I use a combination of the craftsman organizers you see behind me in the video as well as Sterilite stackable drawer units with clear plastic drawers. I usually get the ones the have 12x12 inch drawers.
Today I was so bored of my moc decided to make something out of it I take it apart and I made a drag car by accident how did it happen well it all started when I wanted to make a car out of the moc that I built when he did not go well I decided to change to see what can I do and it came together resembling a drag car and I decided Yep that’s the one I had to grab some pieces to make it better and I was not organize it was pure luck to gets the pieces I needed and I came out nice
I never have enough pieces all i have is rainbow like red, green, blue, yellow lego is so expensive i dont have enough money😂😂 i also dont have a lego store or a computer.
Table scrap builds are a great way to look at pieces in new ways and build a small MOC quickly so you don’t feel overwhelmed
I barely have pieces for that
I wish i was in the us so i could just order parts without expensive shipping…
fr tho
you can order pieces from brick link stores in your country
Same
What country are you from?
@@geese6385 even in same country its above 20 bucks per item
So happy when your videos are coming out and you talking about one of my fav stuff to do with lego is just perfect

Thanks for the amazing tips man. I have improved so much because of this video😄

0:18 Finally! Something I know about MOCs…

thanks so much. i always looked into making mocs myself but needed a video like this to get started. subscribed.😃
Despite being in the hobby longer I’m not too prideful to admit that you’re right and I needed these tips.
Very professional and well explained , great job
Awesome video! I have dream for a 4 part mini coruscant moc, but before this video I had no road map to make it a reality. Ty!
Hope it goes well!
This was SUPER helpful cos it pointed out something I'm guilty of... I went and bought minifigs for 3 different moc ideas and I've only done one of them...shooting too big and not all that well I might add.
Thanks dude this will help Me make my kashyyyk moc
Dude, I just gotta say that your hair is just perfect 👌
Listen to this man! I started out with a 2x3 64 stud baseplate and it was way to big for a first Moc. Start small!
Imagination is a wonderful talent which we all have yet many fail to utilise. Play well.
That is so cool
I've Been building mocs since the summer too😎
Man U got great advice thanks

@@firebirdbricks I submitted my first video last week:) it’s for my LEGO ideas project from last year!
gosh it took me 4 months to figure out what a snot brick is! so thank you!!
Love this ! Also do you think you could go Over
building mountains.🎉🎉🎉
I’ll have a bit of info on that in a video coming soon about a Hoth build I worked on!
thats such a good vid, I have soooo much parts. I really need to seperate them tho

“You gotta FOCUS.”

What bins do you have in the background?
They are craftsman drawers from Lowe’s!
My problem is that I’m always saying myself that I could get more clones with that money
Anyone know the name of the drawers he has in the background?
What do you use to sort your bulk lego

German word for you: Ehrenmann
If you are broke webrick is great it’s fake Lego but looks identical especially tile parts or ones where the studs won’t be exposed it’s very cheap
What if you were a kid and you don’t have enough to buy a real LEGO so you buy fake Lego is that good for a mock
