    I love my mme. We only lost 25% at the most during cold -4 2degree weather. Right when I pull in garage plug it in. It stays plugged in all winter. 85% max charge no issues. Love your videos.

    (Also posted to Out of Spec) I live near Edmonton, Alberta so we need to be prepared for winter temperatures of -30 to -40. Our ICE vehicles are equipped with engine heaters (block heaters) and sometimes battery heaters for the 12 volt battery, During the recent cold spell, we were asked to avoid plugging in our EVs and our ICE vehicles to minimize strain on the grid. The 12 volt battery in my brother's ICE froze solid and needed to be replaced. Weather of -40 or worse is not just a challenge for EVs.

      There's a BIG difference between being asked not to charge your whole EV vs. just the 12 volt/engine heater in an ICE car.

      Things that didn't happen for 500? I live here too did not see ONE EV during that cold spell anywhere. I left both my Honda's plugged into the block heater regardless of the alert. EVS will never fly in Alberta.

    Wow, this is a disaster. I’m glad I won’t have to fill up my tank until 30 or 37 days from now. Your video has made me appreciate how easy gas vehicles truly are (I see them in a whole new light now), I’ve been taking mine for granted…never again, I’m a new person today. I’m very happy I have my gas car…I can’t believe I was even considering a Chevy Bolt years ago, when they first came out. I truly did really believe EVs were possible, this is some hard truth here, thanks for the video…very useful!😶😳😱

    Im thinking a top reason those Uber EVs are charging to 100% is because the extreme cold is draining the battery so much, & these ride share drivers need every juice they can get

      A good analogy is if all the supermarkets in town have long lines & shortages, we’re not going to limit ourselves to just 70 or 80% of what’s available to be considerate of everyone else,we’ll take 100,200%, as much as we can get in order to take care of our families, that’s human nature. The only safeguard is enforced rationing, and that many need to happen for the charging infrastructure as long as the situation is like it is now.

    People don't have home charging. They treat treat the EV like a gas car. It's not. You need a garage and a level 2 charger to precondition and have your vehicle ready. Tesla is trying to sell cars, so don't care to educate people. Everyone buying into hype without understanding how to use them and if it really makes sense for your situation. They leave their car in the freezing cold over night, battery freezes, they rush to the nearest charger they know without any idea of preconditioning. The battery would be too cold to charge, then, they either think the charger is broken or its taking way to long compared to normal. All self inflicted through ignorance.

    • @Bjaardker
      @Bjaardker 11 месяцев назад

      So long as you don't drive a lot, level 1 charging at home works fine supplemented with DCFC. I normally am able to keep SOC 40-70% on level 1, then if I need to take a trip I just charge up to 90 at DCFC the night before.

      I recently had a Kona EV as a borrow as my ICE was in the shop. For 270 days - not even joking. By default the super charging limit is set to 80%. Charging from 40% to 80% took me about 30-35 minutes in -10°C (14°F) when the car hadn't been used for about a week. I believe the charging station was rated at 300kW (not Tesla, and also in Europe).

    I honestly think it is a lack of education, yes, the technology is new, but if you get the education on the EV u purchase, that would leave less room for error. I don’t know why people think ice vehicles doesn’t have their problems, because I have family members on the east coast. and when the temperature gets low, and you don’t have enough gas in your vehicle, the cold will freeze the little you have in there, so that means you wouldn’t be able to start your car. I have a Mach-E AND A Tesla Y, and yes 95% of the charging is done at home. And believe me that helps a lot, yes it’s also different me me because California gets cold at times, but nothing like Chicago. I do wish them the best at these terrible times, but EV drivers still need to have consideration for others. 80% should be good enough to do a couple of Uber and Lyft pick up and drop off and when you’re done go charge again, but don’t stay till u reach 100% when you see a line. Think of others, not just yourself.

      For some people you are right. I have tried to do as much research on EV's as possible. I have dismissed the hardcore anti EV info and dismissed the hardcore pro EV information. I realize that based on winter performance, charging times and range, EV's aren't for my lifestyle and needs. When people make a big investment, like a car, they need to do their research and make sure they are getting what they want/need, not what someone else thinks they need or want.

    If you say time is money, then dont get an EV. I will get an EV when i am retired, because i wont mind wasting my time waiting in the parking lot charging. But right now, most people have responsibilities to get to and need to be on the road. It takes me 2 minutes to pump gas and i still feel like it takes me too long at the pumps.😂

      @marioeduardoferreiraruiz 11 месяцев назад +1

      Absolutely agree, when I’m at the gas station I’m always in a hurry and even 2 or 3 minutes seems like WAY too long for me…specially if the weather is like right now. I made sure to fill up the tank of my crossover before this mess started so I won’t have to see the gas station in another 30 days.

    I dont think its lack of education. I think its many youtubers hype EV's over the sky, and they charge fast.. they are cheap, nothing is wrong with them, if you even mention anything, they will call you anti waxer, islamophobic and the usual stuff. People hear all the time EV's are the best car in the world, so ofcourse they think this is what you can do.

    • @gottagowork
      @gottagowork 11 месяцев назад

      That goes both ways, and just like the anti vaxx'ers, you can't discuss at all with the EV haters. EV "lovers" seem much more reasonable to discuss pros *AND* cons. Keep in mind that EVs are still fairly new - aviation in the early days was neither safe nor cheap. Predatory EV manufacturers? Kind of, it makes no sense that EVs cost more with far less tech behind its drive chain compared to all those complex machined parts that make up an ICE engine. But it does make sense that batteries are expensive and a car can be pretty much a write off for a small accident if the battery is compromised. Maybe the future will bring improved battery tech as well as a more modular approach to cells. But predatory practices are *NOT* limited to EVs, they happen with ICE too; $14 part broken in the self steering assembly, but re-sellers/shops are *FORCED* to replace the whole $4000 assembly.

    • @Bjaardker
      @Bjaardker 11 месяцев назад

      Did you watch the video? Most of the chargers he was at were filled with Chevy Bolts from Uber. These are drivers renting EVs without doing any of the research on what it takes to charge a vehicle efficiently or what it means to not be able to charge at home. Plus the Bolt is one of the slowest charging EVs out there.
      For all of the non-rideshare folks with cars dying it's also an education issue because people don't understand what happens to range and consumption in the cold, so they think it's ok to run the battery down to 5% just like they do when it's warm.

    • @AndrewTSq
      @AndrewTSq 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@Bjaardker thanks for proving the point. Why would you need to take an exam to charge a car? This just shows ev are no where near mature yet for everyone. Its like saying you need to know how to compile linux if you are using a computer.

      @Bjaardker 11 месяцев назад
