Norway has 90% of new cars are EV and lost of part are way colder then Chicago or Montreal. Currently without home charging or work charging, owning an EV is a pain in the ass. Unlike in Quebec, it seems the US is not big on public level 2 and having them in the streets would drastically help those leaving in apartments. My parents in law live in a small city of like 8K population and within a 5 minutes drive from their place, there a close to a dozen of street level 2 charger at a cheap rate of 1$ per minute. In the future, in major cities I'd expect a level 2 with 30 to 50% of street light. Of course with DC fast charging still improving, maybe that many level 2 might not be needed.

I live in Canada and we had our Mach E only since early November. We did a few trips but all around 300 KM to 350 KM. We drove a few times at -10 to -15 Celsius. Our range it these temperature is about 275 KM. I don't have a garage and I precondition only for these kinds of trips when leaving home. We also had to do a couple of short DC fast charging session and at -10 with a state of charge of about 25%, we manage to reach about 105 kW and we only needed to charge for about 8 minutes to get home (we used Google Maps and the Ford navigation so the car preconditions the battery). Yes the range gets worse, but at least unlike our ICE cars we get inside a car that is warm at the beginning. For a garage, it probably helps a bit early in the trip as the heater doesn't have to work much to maintain a wam temperature but as soon as you hit the highway, the battery will get cold. That has to be tested but I doubt the range improvement helped by the garage will be more then an additional 30-40 KM.

90% of people charge their EVs at home overnight. All that charging rate is overhyped. People who are fast charging their cars are killing their batteries sooner. But hey you can treat a rental like a ho.

Its max charging rate is 50 kilowatts, not “kilowatt hours”. But, yes, it’s not a good EV for road trips. When I took mine 3300 from California to Alaska, charging times totaled 31 hours en route. Within its range, if you charge at home or at work, it’s fine, but not for fast long road trips.

Just to clarify with everyone, this is NOT a V4 dispenser. I meant to say this is a V4 stall with V3 250kw max cabinet. Sorry for the confusion. My ADHD doesnt help 😅

Cool. We need to talk about these issues with the charging and this excuse of “the charger conforming to the specific vehicle”. Meaning, the vehicle charging will be at 46kh charging and then probably around 77% it goes down to 24kh. Whaaaaaaat tf is the point of going down? I really would like to know who is the one regulating this transaction of charging power? Is it the charging company or the car company? Is it a hazard or no? It’s starting to be a waste of time.

So did you get all caught up in the sales spin doctoring about how your EV charging is going to be just a minor inconvenience and how much more improved your life is going to be. Then the actual reality set in and you find out the truth after you bought the thing and are stuck with it? 😅😅

Those are not V4 charging cabinets. They are V4 stalls, but the cabinets are still V3. Or V3.5 as some people call them. They can only supply up to 250kW, whereas the actual V4 charging cabinets will support up to a 1,000 volts and 500kW charging speeds. Tesla will start adding them to V4 stalls this coming year. And please teach those rideshare drivers renting Teslas in Chicago how to precondition their batteries before charging at -20 below. That was embarrassing how dumb that was last year, when Norway has no issues with -40 below temperatures and a 94% full EV adoption rate.

Every time I drive by a Tesla Supercharger location it's only like three or four Tesla's there or less anyway so whenever I pull up my Mackie to it it doesn't matter but yeah they do need a longer cord

For some reason Tesla is installing a lot of v4 dispensers with magic docks that can’t be used. I wonder why? For example I was at Rove in Santa Ana last weekend where they have 28 of them. I suppose it won’t matter soon once all the brands have NACS access, but for now my GV60 doesn’t have it yet. Merchy, are we going to see you at EVFest in Long Beach again next year? The charging is a real issue. The vehicle is ok but the charging sucks. I'm returning mine at the end of this week and taking a break until Uber gives us some reasonable EV rental options as there's no way in hell I'll use my personal car for uber.

I like your review because so many times my husband try to talk to Bolt people or someone who charge at 350 w with bolt and they believe it will give them 350 w. Lol Then they will take the whole hours from the car whose can charge at least 30 mins to 80 % and then they can go on their way. They need to do some research and get to know the car before they decide to buy it.

I love how everyone complains about this car yet they buy one bc of the price. If you want a perfect car, then go pay $800 a month for a Mercedes. For $150 I’m paying a month. I love it. It’s quieter than my family minivan and super comfortable driving. I love this car and will be a client for a long time. Also for some of the materials, it comes out of a BMW so if your complaint bout that stuff like the door handle on the inside then your complaining about a Brand that millions of people buy and drive.

This video title is fuel for EV haters. A much more compelling title would be something like 50% charge in 24 min or 80% charge in 44 min.

When it comes to details, you are absolutely right about the exposed circuit board for the tailgate lighting. That is exactly what separates quality vehicles with subpar vehicles. These are the small details that can make or break a brand. You should never be able to see the inner workings of a product.
