- Line and Wash is a great way to incorporate ink into your work, especially during #Inktober. I love rendering trees in ink and was anxious to add some loose color to one, so, here we go. #inktober2019

You really did that apple tree some justice.!
Just love your loose tree-trunk!
That's when you know you're an artist ; you see what normal people can't see. I've had this experience so many times. You look at something mundane and it jumps out at you. And in themoment i have often tried to showmy hubby, but he doesn't see it. And even a camera can't quite get it. But then when you paint it, what you felt comes to life, and others can see what you Felt when you looked at that apple tree.
It's a super power. You're a superhero! :p
So beautyfull
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Excellent approach to watercolor.
🎨
Amazing, congratulations.
This is illustration painting. Very good as illustration style.
Very nice drowning. Thanks for sharing.
What a phenomenal gift God has given you............
I like your choice of colours, and blending them. It's a nice picture.
Very inspirational, many thanks!
... my send button is soo sensitive. Wanted to add thank you for sharing your wonderful talent.
Beautiful Steve.
When you first do your values in pen and ink and then you do a graded wash of just a single colour it is kind of magical, because it looks as if this entire range of hues is appearing.
Freaking GORGEOUS.
That turned out really, really nice!
I’m new to ink & watercolour. Some do ink after the painting and some do it before…. It’s just lovely though either way; I can’t decide which way I like better.
It was also very beautiful just in black and white!
Very nice. Enjoy how you try various techniques in both pen and watercolor. I wonder why in comments people put a thumbs down. It's 👍👍👍
At the risk of being redundant, I really, really like that painting. It is the sort of thing I try to achieve when I take my sketch pad out on a hike. It is the sort of thing I absolutely love to look at years later and remember a place and time where I created a memory with a sketch. So...once again, thank you for taking the time and effort to share that.
I love your videos and you're so incredibly skilled. You could paint garbage and it would be pretty.
😂😂😂I agree!
I enjoined a lot of how wonderful learning,,
Thank you so much.
@themindofwatercolor new art hack I discovered you can use a kneaded eraser to put around the barrel of a fine detailing brush if you feel like the grip is too slim.
Delightful. Looks great.l
Revisiting this Video a few years later, I had purchased a few "UNI PEN's" 0.5 after watching this Video the first time. They come in Grey, Black & Brown. I LOVE them and they have pushed my Creativity Bar up quite a few notches. Its fun to try new Tools now & then and based on Steve's recommendations or demonstrations, I've purchased many and have yet to regret any of them! Thanks !
Love the tones, so pretty🤩
This years Inktober is going so quickly! I can't believe its almost halfway through. I think that is because I'm pacing myself this year. Last year, first time, I didn't know my limits. Its like being a runner, its partly psychological.

This is great! I got uptight when you first started slopping the paint on, but it turned out beautifully. Whew! 🙃
This is beautiful. It’s what I wish I could do. I’m trying.
Hello. When you splashed the drawing with watercolors, it was so scary. But in the end turn out really well. You are genius!! I learned a lot today, thank you.
Beautiful
Great job Steve! Love the color choices too
What planet did you come from?Beauty exudes from your work and fabulous techniques thank you
Master watercolor work
Splendor in the ordinary.....and you captured it so very well!
Your apple tree painting is gorgeous. I love when the Autumn light falls upon the ordinary and creates a new view or when it happens here during foggy "winter" mornings, especially as the sun rises; the light filters through and creates all sorts of "new" but capturing that with watercolor is just so difficult for me to do. I'll just have to keep trying.
You always inspire me to try new things. Throwing some splatters on a finished drawing and then making it work.. Brilliant!
I loved it. I love October, its full of the perfect lighting for pictures, paintings, and it inspires sculpture as well. Its November now and that can be a little more muted but sunsets help.
What an exciting way to splash the color on a painting! Thank you!
I am not late, but I am behind :). I started LOL. Always enjoy your videos. Thank you!!
Wow! This is amazing painting. No words to describe how beautiful it is. Thanks a lot for sharing your talent with us.
Great picture!!
I absolutely love your tree! Very nice Steve!
Beautiful work and a lovely video 😀
Inspirational thank you
Great job. Excellent tutorial. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for showing the pens. Beautiful art
An exciting piece. Your apple tree isn't as interesting as it's lovely reflection from your perfect pen and wash🥀
Beautiful, Steve. Inspirational for Inktober!!!!
I love my Zebras.. that's what I'm using for Inktober! I'm intrigued by those sets! Thanks for the link.
This was very inspirational. I love trees, especially gnarled trees like this one.
Your technique is interesting, too. Thank you for sharing this.
I finally got some M Graham paints and oh my goodness. Barely touch them and the paint melts. Love it. Great tutorial as always!❤
What a fun and inspiring technique! I love ink and wash so this was a lot of fun to learn from - thank you for sharing!
Really enjoyed watching the line work! Amazing how effortlessly you can do that! I did this and I wish I could say it was as easy.....lol
That is beautiful! I can imagine a series of trees like that gracing one wall.
When you first spattered the watercolors I thought, Oh, no!!! Then it became beautiful. Lovely work.
I'm really getting into pen and watercolour inspired by your lovely work. You are my go to demo to help me improve and love the combination of loose and tight which I prefer. Going to start one from my photo of nearby woodlands this wet and windy day near York, England.
Super job! Love love that painting... I especially love your interpretation of that tree.
I've watched this twice. I cannot wait to try this! I just got a nice new set of watercolors and this will be the perfect way to break them in.
Beautiful....✍🎨
Always inspiring. So glad I have found your channel!
WOW. That was like magic. 🐱🏍
I loved your tree even before you put watercolor on it. So inspired, I went out and drew some little trees in my neighbors backyard. I used pencil though and can't use WC because I did it on a dry media sketchbook paper.
I need to try this technique! This is a really interesting way of colouring an ink/watercolour piece. Thanks for the demo.
Your drawing of that apple tree is sooo good, and the painting is superb! Thank you for another masterpiece.
your inking is amazing!! I never thought to squeeze the brush like a dropper, will definitely be trying that
Great sketch.. interesting subject.
Always a pleasure to watch you create. I love trees! I've always felt that they have soul. I think you captured this trees soul beautifully. Thanks for your inspiration. I have a Majestic Oak tree I've wanted to paint. Just couldn't find the right style or medium. Now I have.
Loved this!...Thanks for sharing!
Like the lose yet controlled fearless approach here. I also liked the reminder to notice & appreciate things around you that may have been overlooked before.
Awesome Steve. The painting is beautiful. I love the splash technique. Will have to try that. Thanks
Hi Steve! Your Inktober apple tree is gorgeous. I get a kick out of you talking to your bony friend at your opening. Hehehe. That Tombow brush pen looks fabulous. Wonderful line work and wash painting, Steve!
LOOOOVE LOVE LOVE Everything about this 💕
Why oh why did you bring up the Jet Pen samplers. I had been avoiding them since I first read their articles and bought some pens. I don't need them but....but SO SHINY!!!!! More pens can't hurt right? Another wonderful video. Thank you for posting.
I needed that scripture today. Thanks!
I love this....you throw some splatters on (at first I wondered what the heck you were doing) and the end result is astounding.
Amazing Steve , you are a true Watercolor master my friend, so inspiring. 👍🖌️🎨🖼️

Amazing work! I recently ordered a set of the Uni-Pin Fineliner Drawing Pens and love using them. It's a set of 8 waterproof liners in a .5 and .1 size nibs in Black, Dark Gray, Light Gray and the same for Sepia. They work well and are a nice change from my Microns and Pitt Artist Pens. That is one, awesome tree! and loving all the details!
Outstanding!! Really inspirational - Thank you❣️ Love the verse at the end too🙂
Love how you see beauty and design in the simplest things! Learning so much from you! Blessings!!
