I really loved designing it (first one) but honestly the second designer did a fantastic job! PS. I was the one, messaging him like crazy 😅 keep up the good work
You did a wonderful job bro... Unlike the logo one, this one's tough. Both are amazing. But I kinda liked your presentation maybe because you built a prototype... Kudos to you and also the other guy 👏👏👏👏👏
First designer was robbed IMO, the second design isn't bad at all, but there was something so relaxing and nice about the first design that much better matched with what the app is meant to represent.
I agree. The first design was beautiful and had a very elegant UI. I know he was going for simple, but the first was simple. The second was more just...bare.
I think the first designer did a better job, it looked more modern. But this is how it happens if you think as a designer you should let your design speak for itself, you risk not making the cut.
For an app like this, I much preferred the first design for how it made me feel. I felt more relaxed seeing the first one with the blue colors, and it’s easier on my eyes as someone who easily gets eye strain with bright white and black contrasting text. Great job to both designers though! They both did an amazing job!
Really sad you didnt go for the first one. That one was much more appealing to me as an app, the second was meh, seen it before. But congrats on your app!
I think the first designer was much so better and from the comments section, so do most people as well. What I really like was the simplicity that captures the essence and calming vibe of meditation. The design speaks to you, conveys that feeling of zen. A very gifted designer for sure. A common mistake entrepreneurs do when starting their business, is to choose something that they personally like rather than something their customers prefers. So it’s important to get some feedback as early as possible on your work, from potential customers. I’ve personally done this mistake so many times that I have to remind myself to stop and think from my audience’s perspective. Great video btw, I found it very useful.
Great vid! One thing I noticed is that the app has 1.1GB. Probably because of the audios. It’d be better if they were downloaded later. An app that big might prevent people from downloading
not only create an annoying threshold that keeps some users from onboarding, but also gives malicious users more of a window to pirate the audio itself
I stopped watching the video as soon as he choose 2nd design over first. The one he choose was pretty basic and usual but the first ui design was so A class
Full-time Senior UI designer here. The first design was really awesome, however... it would fail WCAG accessibility standards for the typography and there are a lot of areas that I would question the functionality! I preferred the second design as it was actually more realistic (clearly Spotify was a big inspiration - I can tell without even checking the font is Circular Std, the same font Spotify uses. The first design is one that felt a little more like a Dribbble glamour shot that wouldn't actually translate well IMHO. Great job both designers, love the direction of the app Will - good work!
It does look like Circular std but it is not. You can tell from the text on the inspiration page - lower case T's have a rounded bit in the top left hand corner of the letter where as these do not. I thought the same thing as you though. I'm not sure what this font is but a lot of companies use it.
I love your idea around the app, Will, but I think that you made it a Spotify clone. The first design was doing what it was supposed to do- calm you down and soothen your mental health. The 2nd design looked like that a color bomb went off in the app.
i loved the splash screen of the first app, and it's really nice how it asks you how you feel right off the bat, but i thought the layout was a little bit too busy and involved(?) for a meditation app. while the second design can look very simplistic in comparison i think it fits in better with the brief and functionality of the project. great job from all the creators who worked on these videos!
I would have given them all each other’s work emails and had them freely contact each other so that way there is a team of designers rather than a puzzle that needs to be fit together.
I would love to see a video on the brief that you created to give to the designers and developer :) would be helpful to see how you laid out your requirements and the thought process! :D P.s awesome video!
Hey will congratulations for your app. Looks awesome. Just downloaded to test out the experience and im a fan of it. There a just a few things to mention for optimization. 1. File Size Your app has a file size of 1.1GB which is extremely huge for a smartphone (meditation) app. I think the main cause are the music files which are probably stored statically within the app. You could store the music files externally and stream them. 2. Broken layout The music player is not aligned on the navigation bar. It hovers slightly above like 25px. Therefore it blocks content on the app.
Cool video! One thing you are missing is the breakdown of costs based on each phase of vendor..... Logo Designer, UX, Developer, App Store, Go-live, etc. Would be cool to see the total cost. Also, this video improved my outlook to potentially use Fiverr instead of Upwork All in all appreciate the video Will! Good Stuff!
Much preferred the first design, sorry! It felt much calmer because of the softness of the colours and buttons. The flow seemed much nicer too. I did try and look for the app though and it's not on Andriod 🙁 The app does sound great though! Great work from everyone.
Personally I preferred the first design however the second was great. I would definitely download this app however it is not on the Google play store which is sad.
I think you can take ideas from both, but in real life functioning the more simplistic the better to develop the app, so I think is a nice choice to take the 2nd one.
Hey Will! Just downloaded the app. I love the simplicity. Wasn’t sure I would prefer it over extra options and accessibility. But it actually feels like an environment I could use for cultivating a headspace. It’s not telling me what to feel or think about, at all, just giving me the control to explore and exist as I need to. A few of the controls feel rough within it, but I’m here for the concept and really hope y’all will continue fine tuning the UI. Even though they are still a bit loud at their lowest volume, I particularly enjoy the ability to overlay sounds! It makes it into MY space, specifically with the unique tracks of the coffee shop and whale(s). Great concepts from everyone involved and I am excited to have seen it develop. How often do we get to feel any personal connection to apps? Thanks for that.
Just FYI. Your app is over a gigabyte of data to download. You might want to look into using api calls instead of putting the audio files in the app as well 😉
So as designers we are encouraging Fiverr...? Can we talk about how little money was spent for most probably a whole lot of work hours? I really don't get how, as a respected designer, you can back a platform that is DEVALUING the work of creatives all around the world.
