Don’t collect for value. Only collect for yourself. Some of the crappiest games ever made are really expensive. Enjoy your gaming hunts and have fun.
Lmao very true. Thanks for the advice
Werd...i collect for nostalgia/memories and don't care for the "SUPER RARE HOLY GRAIL" games that cost 5x more than their "value". My brother let his boss borrow all of our Genesis games back in the day and only got a few back...now I'm enjoying collecting those games I used to have or games/systems I wanted back then but mom and dad wouldn't get for us...although one of the games was MUSHA and that's going for more than I want to pay..womp womp.
@@vice86 exactly. I picked up MUSHA on Ali Express (repro) for like 15 bucks, since I don't care about value. The game plays perfect...even came with a box and manual.
I had a turbo as a kid and put off for a long time collecting for it. Could have got in before the price rise. But now I'll just get the handful I had back then. Every vintage item collecting thing has gone from fun hunting to prices out of the hobby.
@@Mr_Don1 Watch out with those chinese genesis repro's though... They are very bad quality and can wreck your genesis over time...
It’s so refreshing to watch a “RUclipsr” who’s not trying to be funny and they’re actually really informative and also don’t ram 70 adverts into a 20 minute video. Keep it up Metal jebus 👍 love from jolly old England 🏴
I couldn't agree more! Some of these tubers I just can't watch anymore. if I think they've sold out or basically being paid to produce 10 minute commercials.
He's the best. Him and his team. Support on patreon. This is his full time job!
JAWS1376 lol @ 10 min commercials. It's gone outta hand... Like worst than TV.
I thought RUclips chose how many adverts to put on a creators video
And the fanbase and comments arent toxic
I only collect what I actually play and enjoy having on my shelves!
Nooooo, you must collect for value, games about poo is where it's at.
Same.
God damn you look like a witch
@@kandigloss6438 Poo Flinger!
Same here.... just saying there shitty games out there that really suck and not worth it. Look at darkwing duck on tg 16. Its like over 100+ bucks cib or 100 just for the loose game and that game sucks balls. However, good games I played and love like chrono trigger can cost money.
The problem isnt buying games. The problem is having the time to play them all... >_
Well spoken^^
Tell me about it.
Most collectors don't play any games. And the ones who actually play, they barely put the game on the console to see what it's all about.
And storing them 😉
Play a few hrs before bed in bed
Don't collect because it's valueable or will make you money down the line. Small, well-curated collections that mean a lot are the way to go.
Indeed, well said
100% agree. I've been collecting videos games and music for over 30 years cuz I LOVE it.
Agreed, and nothing says well curated collection like the PC Engine. ;)
I pretty much collect games that i know i will come back to. For example I have Bloodstained Ritual of the Night and it is challenging. I know it will take a while for exploring, and although its been review bombed on the switch for supposed issues, i never experienced any issues. It will take a while because i enjoy every little thing about it. Mostly i play and enjoy Diablo III. My collection doesn't consist of Nintendo flagship titles for my switch because i want to play something other than Mario and zelda, i want to support indie and retro titles.
vimster I just bought a sealed copy of God Hand (PS2) for about $150. I bought it to play it not because of the value. You can check out the unboxing on my channel
As someone who has been collecting things for a long time, I have these rules for myself.
1) Never treat your collection as an investment.
Explanation: Doing both will never work equally well. Either be a collector or an investor.
2) Never try to swindle anyone regardless if you are buying or selling.
Explanation: I don't think this needs explaining.
3) Don't spend more than you should, never buy anything "collectable" on credit card and don't get too attached to your collection.
Explanation: Always have your priorites set and spend accordingly. Your family and friends should come first. Things will never fill that void.
Georgios Sarris Great. Thank you for the post!
I only buy if it's dirt cheap like my vectrek and 25 of the 28 games it had for 15 bucks.
I get super Nintendo bundles for 20 to 50 buck, ect
very well said
Er doing both does work equally well. So long as you know what youre doing. Ive been buying collections and selling them off at a profit for years.
I have bought some collectable games on credit card before, but only when they're things that are extremely rare that I've really wanted at a low price they likely won't ever reach again. For instance, if I found a $80 mint cib copy of Valkyrie Profile or Suikoden II for the PS1, I'd grab it immediately, no questions asked. Wouldn't even care if I had to be a little more frugal on groceries that month to make it happen. I am attached to my collection, but it wouldn't ever interfere with family and friends.
If you’re just starting in 2019, the best advice is have a good paying job. 😂
That's not necessarily true I go to good will pawn shops yard sales !
so much truth in this comment.
I work in a grocery store making $11/hr, and i have no issue collecting. I just got a lot of 8 original xbox games for 25 dollars. I usually spend up to 30 dollars a week to buy a video game. Sometimes i skip and save money until i have 100 dollars and i buy a huge game bundle on Ebay. You can take out whatever you want, and sell the rest to get your money back. I profit most times actually.
My advice would be to collect at your own pace, if you have to save up money for 3 weeks, who cares. Be patient, it will pay off :)
N O S H I T
Just a message to say that I really like how you do your videos, especially the chilled style and broad perspective on games and gaming in general.
You said chilled instead of chill
THANYOU!
In the UK it is 'chilled' rather than chill. Love the chilled videos from MJR :)
Metal Jesus is the best!
If you’re asking the question “what should I collect”, you’re in it for the wrong reasons.
Exactly. I think he was asking as far as enjoyability and affordability goes.
I personally collect games I couldn't get years ago due to price/region or a specific creator eg SE/Atlus/everything made by or based on Yasumi Matsuno work (Tactics Ogre/ Ogre Battle/Ivalice Alliance)
People do something with movies critics give 30 score they will not see movie if critics give it low score
Exactly.
You are so right.
There is alot of money in rpgs yet
I do not collect rpgs because they take to long to play. What am I gonna do with 300 rpgs?
I tend to go for the more arcady stuf wich you can enjoy for half an hour. Like sega and namco racing games. Or capcom beat em ups.
Haven't bought anything in months BTW. Im like a recovering alcoholic😅
Great general overview MJ. I really like that you emphasized on collecting what you’re passionate about. That’s really what it boils down to.
I'd completely recommend getting yourself a PS3 if you want to start collecting.
-Great range of exclusives covering a wide variety of genres
-Amazing library of third party titles
-A host of retro HD compilations are available for the console, including PS2 era classics and more retro stuff, so it's a good way to play some retro games without breaking the bank
-Can play all your PS1 games via HDMI so it's a great alternative if you want to start collecting for the PS1
-Both the console and most of its games are available for outrageously cheap prices at the moment
The only thing the PS3 lacked was JRPGS.
I just started (GameCube +4 games) and realized I have me and brothers old ps3.. yessss
You're the man MetalJesus, just wanted to let you know I'm grateful for you and your content.
The question doesn’t make sense. You don’t “start” collecting. You acquire games throughout the years that you enjoy, then bam - you have a collection. Keep doing that, and your collection gets bigger.
Asking “what should I collect” sounds like a temporary urge to have a collection. If you wanted to collect games, you would already have games.. you know.. from the hobby of gaming.. I can go spend $1000 on eBay buying dozens of PS3 games but would that hold any sentimental value to you?
Doesnt work that way for everyone.
Some people have had only a few dozen games that theyve swapped, sold, exchanged, etc. for years.... always gaming but never collecting. Perhaps these people are now in a position to start collecting a bigger library.
Others simply decided it looks like a fun hobby so got onboard, but arent sure where to start.
There's a million and one scenarios for a million and one people.
Not one of them collects in a more correct / better way than any of the others.
beezle1976 ya I’m kinda in that boat as I am 18 now and I finally have the money to actually start going out and getting games that I really love where as before I would always have to wait for Christmas birthday etc to get any new games too bad my favorite console atm is GameCube cuz we all know how GameCube prices are these days
beezle1976 true, and a follow up to that for a perfect answer to the original question of “how to start collecting” - if you find yourself in that position, buy back the games you enjoyed but sold due to needing the money. That’s exactly what I did. Once I did that, I started buying titles I’d been curious about - if I liked them, I kept them - if I played them for an hour or so and it wasn’t my thing, I ebay’d it right back.
5 or so years later and I have an awesome collection that’s leagues from the biggest, but it’s a perfectly curated collection that reflects me, from my childhood to present time.
Just to clarify, I don’t consider there a “good or bad” way to be a collector, but I think a collection of things that hold no personal value is not a great collection. Collecting for the love of _what you’re collecting_ so that it reflects the person is what makes it truly great.
Joseph Espinoza my advice is to start slow, set up eBay alerts, and get those games back :) also check Reddit’s subreddit “gamesale” - lots from my collection game from there.
That's why I love emulation. I don't use emulators simply for actually playing games, I use them to play test games I've never played before to see if I want a physical copy in my collection (apart from MAME that is, since having hundreds of arcade cabs in my home is kind of impractical, LMAO)
I wonder if the rise and fall of interest in systems/games is based around people's age and their nostalgia for them. People who grew up with the N64 and PS1 are now generally getting to an age where they have more space and disposable income. Doesn't surprise me that demand is increasing and therefore cost.
I had the Super Nintendo and PS1 so I'm mainly buying games for those two systems.
Of course it is. The peak of "retro collecting" has passed because people who grew up (6-16) when the NES, SNES and Genesis systems came out are getting out of collecting entirely or at the very least less passionate about it now.
@@eskanda3434 that's subjective, not the truth.
N64 is still fairly cheap these days. Even the more rare games like Conker don't reach even $100 in most places. The PS1 though, hooo boy. Suikoden II, Klonoa, Tomba, Castlevania Chronicles, Persona, and Tekken 1 for some reason are absurdly expensive for old games (seriously why is Tekken 1 close to $50 with case)?
Thank God NES and SNES prices have calmed...things were getting insane. Finally revisiting SNES collecting and getting some decent deals.
Pretty sure things calmed down a bit due to the classic console minis being released. People are satisfied with emulating on an official Nintendo system
@Bob Loblaw Yeahhhh.... that would be retarded. Collect what makes you happy and remember.
Earthbound is still up there
@Bob Loblaw troo
Bob Loblaw But are we talking about genuinely crappy games for their time or games that you think are shitty or unfun because they don't have hyper realistic graphics and are just old and shit? If you meant the former then totally. If you meant the latter, it's just ignorance. lol
I'm actually working on getting a complete collection for the Original Xbox. So far I'm at 43 games. I Grew up playing it so I'm making it a mission to make it happen 😁🎮
Good luck lmao stubbs has gone up in price ever since he wouldnt stop mentioning it
Hopefully you can get Steel Battalion for a good price under 100 dollars. That is, with the huge controller setup.
That's all true, but I gotta make it happen 😂 lmao
@Erik dying light that's freaking awesome, actually also have a psp, PS4, Nintendo switch, 3ds, Wii, ps2, ps3. I really want to get a GameCube and start collecting for that next, I've always been a super fan of the original Xbox, really hope I get the complete collection soon😁😁😁
Where you at now? I hope u didn’t give up!
I've recently started collecting for the Gamecube, Xbox, and Xbox 360. Gamecube games can be quite expensive.
360 and ps3 are cheap but ps2, gamecube, original xbox they get pricey
In my experience not much of anything Playstation is expensive. Just so many of each game out there because of how many consoles sold. Not really desirable.
GC is my favorite i recently got wario world for 30 follars not too bad it has the case too
My first console was the Atari 7800. 😂
@@lethalassassin1754 only a small amount of playstation 2 games are expensive ($40) i bought most of mine online for $3 - $9 and even bought a mint condition sly still sealed for $16
I would recommend the Wii, 3ds, and Xbox 360. So many amazing games for amazing prices on amazing systems
So true! here in Argentina can't find a copy of ducktales remastered for xbox360 can you believe it? Dude i want that game!!!! hahaha
Also make sure to get a first generation Wii so you can play GameCube games on it
Marr Vids I’d say also ps3, I personally like it better than the 360 due to the time of exclusives
Marr Vids xbox and ps2 are great too collect. I find a ton of original Xbox around 2 or 3 dollars a piece!
Would recommend either the xbox360 slim or Playstation 3 slim. Games are cheap the systems are reasonably reliable and games are readily available and cheap.
You inspired me to start a game collection, and it is now one of my life goals to have a game room. Thank you.
When I'm interested in a console I look for buying guides, top 10s, and hidden gems videos. That gives me an idea of what's out there and what I might be interested in
My best advice is to avoid buying filler.
When I first started collecting I bought tons of games in the genres I liked, which looked great on the shelf, but 30-40% of which I would likely never play. Now I've reduced my collection to only top titles I will definitely someday play, I am happier with it. Furthermore, I have reduced my purchasing to very selective titles now, making hunting for them the more fun.
It's hard to not have fillter though at least for me. How many times I bought sets of games because someone would only sell the lot... But I can't sell something out of my collection even though I am not playing it, or even like it. It was part of the buy i guess idk. I have a hard time parting with video games @_@
To be more speciic, sometimes you will end up with filler if you are buying in bulk from craigslist or FB market. You often have bundles with a bunch of great games for way cheaper, but you will end up with some duds.
Could always resell them after for a couple bucks I guess.
@@Demokirby yea but thats more my flaw i mean. I cant resell them i regret it even though they are duds. They are part of the collection. Even though i dont intentionally buy filler.
@@koosjuh75 I used to be the same, but I started to run out of room. It was then I looked at the games I had and thought, would I ever want to play this?
Once reduced, my collection now resembles my personal tastes in games much more strongly.
The games I took out got resold to buy others. I'd rather have one quality title than twenty I'd never play :)
It's much easier, if you are not rpgs fan.
Very true
It's crazy how RPGs almost always hold their value, whether they were popular and sold well..or not! People love to replay and collect them!
Shooters(shmups)hold their value as well,Japanese saturn, aes, not to mention the Cave PCB’s....uau.
What do you mean? RPGs if done right are definitely worth playing and most of them are.
I weep for the fact that my favorite genres are: JRPGs (which inspire passion for decades after release), horror (which sell like crap and then go up in value by an exponent of 10), and fighting games (which tend to have tournament communities that keep the price above $20 forever)
Why do other people like what I like!? I thought I was weird!!
I discovered your channel not long ago by chance, and since I watched all your videos, I really like what you do, big support from France =)
dude your videos are becoming nostalgic for me . you should be proud that you are creating that kind of content
Love the original xbox. Picked up more-or-less a complete PAL set over the last few years. Cost next to nothing and there is so much variety. Plus the games still stand up well to this today!
What are some fun games for xbox? I don't care for FPS or RPGs...i love games from the SNES and N64 era like the Donkey Kong Country trilogy (my top 3 games of all time), Mario Bros and World, Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie....does xbox have anything to offer for this genre of games or should i just continue to avoid it altogether?
Samuel Hunt this is what I’m aiming for. Started January this year and have about 200 games so far
Number one advice is to prioritize the things you really really want first, especially with today's goddamn prices. Start small.
Also get a job.
Also Sony and Microsoft stuff is pretty much the most accessible ones.
"Get a job." Classic!
Great vid man. Always love your vids MJ! Keep it coming
I just love your channel and your videos!! Keep up the good work!
Here in Japan, we're in a demographic Chaos, great for collectors, wait a little more and the prices will really start to drop in the virtual world (Amazon) in here. (already happening on most of retro gaming related stores)
I've noticed that Japan has a lot of dirt cheap consoles on eBay, I've got over a dozen different gameboys and DSes for 5-10 dollars each which is crazy because EU sellers ask a lot for some reason. The japanese ones don't seem to turn up in searches but I know a few good sellers and they have stuff for so cheap
@@waldevv care to share the sellers usernames?
I feel like in Japan there's a cultural stigma against gaming when you become an adult, and so the collecting scene isn't as strong there. Kind of sad, but for the prices I'm able to get sometimes, I'm not complaining.
@@Kentama Actually on this aspect there is more freedom in here than any other place, on Earth the "hentai" or the "weird" culture as a solid example, wherever you are into (if not illegal) most do not discriminate, also if people (non-collectors) have space they keep, due to the urban migration, there is a lot of gold available on used/recycle shops (not specialized) in the countryside, if you ask most will have a least one box with a console and a bunch of games, going for nothing, if you just keep all.
@@waldevv Probably due to the lack of space or the seller wants to sell it faster, sometimes I do translate for Europeans or others collectors when on the same store, the reason I have a good relationship and prices with all related stores in town, the ones from artic Europe or around they pay 7X less in Japan, all report it, it is true?
Idk why but the Vita is my favorite system to collect for. Collectors edition comes out for Vita? Day one buy
I wish I could say the same, but everything for the vita is so expensive :(
I remember when copies of Panzer Dragoon Saga were $60 on eBay and $30 at Gamestop...ah the good old days, I wouldnt even bother now
Awesome T-shirt, can't wait to play the game. Also Kyuss, hell yeah!
i get weird looks from my friends when i say i buy old video games and even music cds. they say why you buy this when you can just stream the music.
When you stream you don't own the music...
@@larson0014 You could just listen to music on RUclips whenever you like...
Some people just don't get it. :-)
That's fine though, each to their own, but no matter how hard you try some people just won't ever understand.
I buy a lot of t.v. shows on dvd/bluray as well, even when I've already had them on a harddrive months before theyre released here on DVD/Bluray. And it's the same with music.
Some people just like to show a little appreciation for what they consume, so are happy to pay.
Weirdly, if it wasnt for people like us, those who dont understand why you'd pay for what you can get freely wouldnt have half the content, nor of the same quality as what they have.
Producing video and/or audio isnt free.
I guess because iam old (65) is why I like the old stuff:) I lived it and love it still
Feels better when you bring out the old music. You look at the art work and look at the lyrics. And it brings back memories of good times in your life. I'll put miami sound machine cassette in my walkman and sit their thinking about when I was kid.
Atari Prices came down because of ebay. Before Ebay everything felt rare but after ebay everything was super common.
My passion is dancing and now I have the whole entire series of Just Dance!
Kamal gupta no ddr? Lol I have entire series of ddr.
If for money, go for every single Limited Run Games, Super Rare Games, Strictly Limited Run Games and all the niche low print run games.
If for fun, whatever you like the best.
I am very glad you mentioned that you like the 3d effect of the 3ds. It is perfect with the new 3ds models especially if you end up having dual ips screens. The 3d effect of the 3ds is the most underated thing in gaming history!!!
PS2 I started in 2016-17 with the heavy hitters in survival horror and I'm not regretting it at all seeing how the prices have gone nothing but up, I've got just over 520 PS2 games 🎮🎮 and about 700ish total games in my collection expanding over 14 consoles🎮🎮
✌
The PS2 is my favorite console ever! Got it for Xmas back in 2000 when I was in 3rd grade. The library for the PS2 is insanely big! It's the console with the largest category of games.
ps2 is going crazy in general. Even semi-common decent games that used to be 5-10 are commanding 20-30.
@@torgogorgo1888 O yeah it's Madness, I bought Blood will tell after I saw a hidden gem video from Metal Jesus November 2016 for $74 bucks off eBay now it's well over $200, But yeah 110% even the 5-10 games are commanding 20-30 nowadays!!!
@@WindHashira SO SO SO many games on PS2 you can be anything you want or almost experience anything to a certain degree... Gladiator Surfer Fireman, Just so much love on this system in my eyes it's also #1 HANDS DOWN and then back up in the air cause I have so much fun playing PS2...

Shout out from Portland just started getting into game collecting. don’t know anything about retro games but I’m learning a lot from you. Thanks!
Great topic! Awesome discussion!
We really need a CRT TV buying guide. I’d also be interested in watching one of the MJR crew do video tutorials cartridge battery replacement.
Unless you always play 8bit & 16bit consoles or you wanna play lightgun games CRT TV's are soooo overrated. My PS1 & PS2 looked 10x better with a good RGB cable on my 10 year old LCD than my Sony Wega CRT.
Dean Thompson I feel the same way, but I really like Atari and light gun games. My CRT pooped itself, so I need a new one and I’m not sure what to go with.
@@Heathmanscoolstuff Joel from Last Gamer knew loads about CRT's but he's disapeared off the face of the earth for about 6 months, there might be a video on his channel.
My general advice would be to avoid flat screen CRTs, because some of them can cause issues with light guns and other peripherals. And if possible find one that supports at least S-Video (or RGB Scart if you're in PAL region).
@@deanthompson88 really, mine always looked better on my CRT, no matter what connection I used on a LCD
My last investment for gaming was finding a Sony trinitron CRT tv with RGB and S-Video
Yeah, I just did the same. Older games just look so much better on a CRT, especially a PVM or BVM. Playing the Sega Genesis on an analog CRT with those HD retrovision component cables is an eye opening experience.
I prefer a good RGB consumer set over PVM or BVM for arcade games, you get much closer to the real deal. But a BVM is good for game cube / wii / ps2, Then again a large VGA monitor is just as good as a BVM for that and much cheaper.
Well said and very informative Metal Jesus! 👏
Used to collect, sold my collection for a Subaru. Recently started collecting again. Loving collecting for Gamecube and Dreamcast (my fav system) so rewarding...
Remember guys quality over quantity!
YES! My game collection has never been that huge but that's okay. It's CURATIVE, full of games that I KNOW I'll play.
I've scored quite a few Genesis and 32X games as of late but it still comes back to that Holy Grail of the Genesis library: Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I bought both cartridges loose on eBay, and I NEVER separate them.
Noticed the ghost poster, saw them live couple of weeks ago opening for Metallica were awesome 🤘
I haven’t watched the video yet, but I just wanted to say - what a great topic for a video. Can’t wait to watch and read the great comments.
Super Video ! For Retro computers for early generations, il will certainly recommand the Amiga 500. 1) It's so easy to use, switch on, put the disk and that's all (easy as a console). 2) It's a 16 bits system, the graphics are still good, and less dated compare to 8 bit computers. Not to mention music capabilities which are still great. 3) Try Speedblall 2, Battle Squadron, Turrican 2, Lionheart, Another World, Flashback, Dune the adventure game... Plenty of games are still fun to play. And specially if you are North American, you will discover an exotic and mostly european universe with a lot of gems you don't know (try Moonstone !!!!).
I collect what i play do it for passion
I was born in 1974 so the atari 2600 was my first console i got from my uncle in 1981 and i loved it /yars revenge and demon attack was two of my favorite games
Watching this in 2021. The videogame collection has changed a lot since 2019. Some video games for taken for granted in 2019 (PS2 Silent Hill games, 3DS Kirby games) are now super expensive.
Great advice 👍
Thanks from Australia
I think right now is the best time to get into PS2/Xbox/GC collecting.
I agree with that besides GameCube GameCube rn is so expensive I’m trying to get back games that I sold years ago for GameCube and it’s damn near impossible cuz all the games I want are 100 plus dollars for one in decent condition
PS2/PS3/Xbox/360/Wii/3DS/GBA/VITA and PSP.
GC is stupid overpriced atm same with the N64.
Atari 2600
You can still get a bundle of 20 carts for 20 bucks...
Do that just a few times over, and you have a good collection.
KomradeMikhail ...that means absolutely nothing to you
I’m sorry but I don’t know how buying a bunch of things with no personal value has any point. I can go buy 10,000 stamps and then I’m a stamp collector in the amount of time it takes for my credit card to get charged. Utterly pointless and not special at all.
A collection is only as special as the connections you have to it’s contents.
Smart collectors collect things they love, not based on the AMOUNT they can collect. The last thing I want to do is look like a fucking hoarder. What would be the point of collecting a bunch of games when you are only doing to play a MINORITY of what you collect? People who collect like that are mentally ill in my opinion.
Just noticed that you and the Metal Jesup crew is coming to the Game On Expo in Phoenix (well according to the conventions website) and now I am even more excited that I can go on Saturday this year really looking forward to a chance to meet you and the Crew in August
I asked my sister for her game cube as she no longer uses it
Love your videos never give up Metal Jesus Rocks
Just honestly buy games you like to play. From all systems. I finaly got metal gear for gamecube and a boxed chrono trigger. It starts to all add up when u buy for nostalgia and games u miss playing
I still have my Gamecube connected through component video. Will get around to a HDMI mod one day. Awesome console!!!!!!!!!
@@silvervalleystudios2486 Hey, I'm using a Wii instead of a gamecube and I tell you it's worth it. I bought a Wii2HDMI adapter on amazon for 15CAD (dirt cheap!), and you can enable progressive mode with it and it looks damn good. Also, it reads gamecube disks and has the ports for gamecube controllers and memory cards, so it still feels like playing a gamecube. The sad part is missing out on the awesome gamecube bootup animation and sound. The crazy thing, you can probably find a wii cheaper than a Gamecube in the market, because nobody cares about the Wii lol.
I think the Vita is a great place to be collecting. Prices are moving up, but still affordable. PS2 also. There's PS2 games all the time at my local thrifts. Psp is also still ok.
Completely agree with you. Give it 10 years or so and one of those Collectors editions of a Psp or PS2 will be going for a high price stranger.
Yes, I paid 45 for kenka bancho on psp, and it was painful at the time. It was the last psp game I really wanted. Now, it's hard to find under 90, and isn't readily available, even at that price. Psp is great, but don't use any you love. 2 of mine died over the past 2 years.
Vita is getting hard to collect I have yet to find games out in the wild and most resellers only have a couple if none at all.
Yea I find PS1 discs often in the music CD section of thrift stores. Sometimes full copies with manual, more often just discs. I recently found colony wars full copy for PS1.
Idk I personally feel like it's a bad time to collect for the vita, the games are outrageously priced
MJR this was basically a textbook answer, bravo. You nailed a lot of good points that I feel are consistent with today's market for home consoles and even made mention of handhelds and computers. Excellent video 🤘
never seen that shirt before super badass shirt man! thanks for the upload MJR
I have a 2112 vinyl too, its on display on my wall, its original from the 70s
“I get it, I’m old” 🤣🤘
Great video!!! Love this topic!! Funny this is I DID just jump into the xbox one! I dig the backwards compatibility!
Love your videos - From Australia !
That's is true in a way MetalJesus, about the whole "new experiences" you talked about. for me my "weird console" I tried out and Liked was the Sega Dreamcast
It's a fabulous console, the last quiet one before they all got fans and became noisy. GTA3 was originally going to be Dreamcast exclusive - if they hadn't cancelled that, the whole course of games history might have been different.
hmm, that's a neat fun fact ^^. I just play the console exclusive Horror games it has in its collection plus a couple fun ones like SeaMan and Space Channel 5. and another interesting tid bit, they recently just made Space Channel 5 for PSVR
I would recommend the Sega Genesis. Great 16 bit games without the crazy snes prices. Tons of great games of all genres (a little light on rpgs however).
Coorhagon gotcha
nice
barbarian is awesome! thanks for showing it at the end
I’m in my 20s and just recently got my hands on the Sears Video Arcade II, in excellent condition, and while I didn’t grow up with an Atari 2600 it’s probably one of my favorite consoles to collect for right now. I’m a huge shooter fan and there are such great titles for the 2600.
"You have to think long term, I certainly do..."
This is what MetalJesus Says as I notice the Wii U collection in the backround
WILLROCKS07 Plays I wouldn’t be surprised if Wii U becomes pretty expensive in the future, great games and really low sales, altho a few of them have been ported over to the switch so I doubt those will retain that much value
@@markvickery5894 Most have been ported.
Just get the physical copy of Bloodstained - Ritual of the Night for the Switch now.... your will thank me and yourself 10 years from now.
I ordered the physical version of Bloodstained for the Xbox One (Japanese version). How will that one do? (Also have the digital switch version coming.)
Definitely a system your passionate about I would recommend. I love collecting for the Sega Genesis
WOW epic games collection! Thank for sharing hope you have an awesome day!! :D
GameStop’s Buy 2 get 2 free deals are amazing. I did that a few years ago with their PSP games. Ended up getting 30 games for about $58
They raised prices online
Retrobytes that was a couple years ago. I used to go by my local games stops a lot.
I got to know the managers and cashiers there. And they would regularly give me some neat swag for free, old pre order bonuses, got a couple DS cases for free, extra download codes.
I know my experience is very different from the majority. But I had a lot of great experiences with them.
Maaan, get you a snes with Donkey Kong Country, Final Fantasy 3 and Rock N' Roll Racing
All great titles to keep you busy. 💪🏼
Ooooh SNES my favorite console ever
RNR Racing is getting too rich for my blood.
Rip... is in another time zone!
When it comes to the SNES unless your made of money just buy a flash cart preferably the SD2snes its compatible with all the special chip games that people care about and is the same price as 3 top level snes games plus you still get to use real hardware it's not emulation so it's a win in my book
Great video MJ👍
well done ... a fair feed back on collecting!
Now is a good time for collecting ps3 and xbox 360 games. Those have gotten cheap.
correct before its to late,i got some for 2 dollars at gamestop
@shooter4hire shooter4hire good hunt,i buy before they really push the price our they stop making physcal copies
I've started my collection and am starting to realize how awesome the PS3 and Xbox 360 are. A lot of hidden gems that went under the radar when released.
Unless you're into RPGs. RPGs can get very expensive, no matter what system you're collecting them for, especially if they are rare.
@@scottbreon9448 i am rpg person.like when ps1 our all my time favorite, its to late for me to get them
mini consoles offer a quick affordable entry into retro gaming. They hit that sweet nostalgia spot without breaking the bank. Playstation Classic can be found for $25.
Elsa snowgies plus you can mod it and add your own games
Great video. When I was growing up I owned MANY games but I always sold or traded them just so I could play the next game. Once I got into my late 20's and it became more affordable to get all the games I wanted without having to trade that's when I got nostalgic for my old games as a kid. I've been collecting for a few years and my big tip to all of you is GET THE GAMES YOU GREW UP WITH. nostalgia is one of the greatest reasons to collect. ENJOY!
I recently started recollecting all the consoles of my childhood. I have a Dreamcast, Saturn, Genesis, n64, and a ps2. Rebuilding my Saturn collection is proving a difficult task...
Completely agree with PS3. Pick up a handful of games a year dirt, cheap just to play (not collect).
PS3 was an awesome system. Imo, the jump between ps2 and ps3 was mindblowing...its when graphics and just the size and power of games started getting very very impressive to me. The jump from ps3 to ps4 was great, but i don't think it could compare to the previous upgrades of the ps3's generation.
I've noticed the prices of Vita games has gone up a bit.
James Cheng oh yeah they are. There are a decent amount of limited run vita games. So collecting for the vita is no doubt difficult
Pluto Smash you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about, I personally have over 250 English Vita games...Noob😏
@@plutosmash6068 over 300 physical vita games
Vita prices will go high, very high, and soon.
Zoë & Lize's life as best friends Vlogs hey I just started collecting vita give me a break 😭.
I try to collect games that i really enjoyed playing while i was growing up. Multiple consoles, multiple systems.
I started to collect PC games in 2015 and since that year I was buying from games and now from different old systems like megadriver or PC games on floppy disk 5 1/4 but my favorites are still the PC games in box paperboard
I only collect games I like and don't mind. Games I hate or dislike I don't really buy.
I very recently decided to start collecting some retro games. I decided to go NES and focus on obtaining all the fantasy themed games. Basically if it has cool fantasy artwork that belongs on a van I'm putting it in my collection. I don't care if the games are good or bad or if the game actually suits the art. I'm just having fun because there are so many that fit this theme.
Collect what you like to play and also the boxes you like to see in your shelfs
Many collectibles go through this kind of boom and then flatten out. There's only so much demand in the end.
If you plan to collect for the saturn take out a mortgage
I sold my first born son and my soul and bought a Saturn with like 4 games. One of then even came with a case!
Vampirerockstar or live in japan? Japan imports are extremely cheap and an action replay cart allows you to play any game as it makes your console region free.
NeoGeo anyone? ;)
F**k Satiator that will never be released.. Rhea/Pheobe with a 512gb SD card and the redump sets is all you need
[Laughs in Rhea/Phoebe/Satiator]
Nintendos Wii are soooo dirty cheap rn, and they are Soooo going to go up in value some years from now.
GOGOgomes Agree. I bought my Wii with Gamecube compatibility used for US$50.
Watch the Wii u go up lol
YogiJogi HK I got a Nintendo Wii with 8-9 crappy games, balance board, 2 remotes and nunchuck for £5 in the UK.
Great advice man!!
I’ve been wanting to buy and collect the games I personally grew up with and it does really make me happy that I own copies of those said games I grew up with. So that’s where my hunt is at.
Oh god, I just started collecting for 3ds, and now there’s gonna be a price spike lolol
I love your channel, great content you don't showboat straight to the point, much respect MJ game on dude
Another great video 🤘🤘
BEEN COLLECTING MY WHILE LIFE. I have never gotten rid of a system or game from my childhood. I'd love you to check out the retro battles I have with my kids. We're just starting!
first! and love your content, bro! keep up the good work!
I would also advise to use emulators to see if a game is worth biting the bullet
I recommend scanners. It was a hand held thing that scanned bar codes on items like can food or literally anything with a bar code. Within the code you find monsters to fight your friends with when y'all connect your scanners. I think they had trading cards too so you could collect the monster and card. It was Pokemon before Pokemon
Great video Metal Jesus. 😊 👍
