How do you calculate the new oil volume?

Hi there love the video, just wondering a couple of things. On my tubles someone cut another groove and move the little clip down 1 1/2 inches will it bother onything if I add the spacers to lower them 3 inches? Also can I use schedual 80 pvc condiunt in place of aluminum? thanks

1/2"ID aluminum for the spacer, PVC will shatter over time or smash down. cutting the ring groove is another way to shorten them, I've seen many do it that way also. it's easier to change heights that way if you are constantly swapping forks per race style. IMO it's worth the money to just have extra forks set up per application so there's no tuning after and a lot less work.

@@sawyercustom Thanks so much for the quick reply, if the groove is at
1 1/2 inch and I make a spacer of 3 inch will it over ride the grove? And be ok that way. These are going on an old Ironhead Harley so I got heaverier springs to in them to. So I will also shorten the springs 3 inches totatle to correct? thanks for your help

@@fussebd1952 if you are cutting the spring like in the video cut it an inch less than needed 3” drop 2” cut, fold half a twist flat. Will give you 1/2” of preload. The higher the preload the more pressure it takes to initially move the spring. If you are removing coils by shortening it’s naturally gonna make the spring rate higher. # of coils and wire thickness dictates spring rate.
As long as the groove is cut right the lock ring is wedged in place and shouldn’t move at all. Im pretty sure the tube will snap before that ring pops. If you’re using Mx forks they are super stout and made for high abuse. Road riding won’t stress them like Mx does.

@@sawyercustom Thank you again, Yes I got it to cut the spring less and wind it so it sits flat at 3 inches less. I will get some Aluminum tube today. Yes cuts in the tubs look pretty good and ring and holder go together with a good fit. These were from an 05 CRF450R It is gonna be a dual sport as I live in the desert in N. AZ so rocky trails and some highway may be.

@@alexalvarez8586 both just shortened not rebuilt. If the seals are blown cover the cost of the seals and I’ll reseal them, if they are totally shot the cost goes up. This only pertains to 00-10 Showa forks. I don’t mess with kyb
