FUN RUSH FACT: Rush writes their songs with stage performance in mind. The bell break that Neil plays at 0:58 was added in so Alex has time to swap from an acoustic guitar to electric which takes about five seconds
Craftsmanship to the Nth degree.
he played electric the who;e song bro
@@yaboiparks5249 the intro is played with a 12 string acoustic
@@bwilson9521 yep, here's how he did it ruclips.net/video/0oem46aJgUg/видео.html
Wow. That really is a fun rush fact.
Rest in peace, Mr. Neil Peart... we lost a man who controlled thunders.
So sad..
controlled? ... he wrote thunder

Neil was one of a kind he had no equal
As an American, I would like to thank our brothers from the north for exporting great musicians and music..
As an American playing a character portrayed by a Canadian, I would additionally express similar support and thanks.
Absolutely
Well, they gave us Justin Bieber and we gave them hip-hop, so sometimes trash in/trash out.
Agreed. Americans and our so called politicians could benefit greatly from these beautiful and relevant lyrics.
“Hey can you show me some cords”
“After what we’ve been through today, I’d love to”
Why this comment so low?
@@Mater505 not sure dude, it’s a trailer park boys reference. Kinda a staple thing for this song lol
Bazza you bloody legend. see you around mate.

Ricky! You kidnapped Alex lifeson!
Never have I ever heard a more FULL sounding three piece band EVER

What besides American Band have they done?
@@QueenofNonSequitur Have you listened to the Survival album? The USA can listen to I Want Freedom currently for sure. I Can Feel Him In The Morning highlights what crappy words this Rush song has. Anyways I prefer Budgie to Rush. Greetings from darkest Africa.

I was TEN when Survival came out. Rush was there when I became a teen.

Such an underrated gem of a band. Fucking awesome. And I'm a middle aged black woman from Brooklyn. Their music transcends race and age
It is folks like us that must bridge the hate gap forming between us
Exactly! Im black too. Heard them innthe radio and LOVE them! I love tom sawyer, spirit of the radio and i believe theres a song called Free Will. Such good songs!

45 years later and still I get massive goose bumps when Geddy's voice comes in at the beginning of this masterpiece!
So true how bout it
It takes me back in time to cranking their music in my headphones
My first time ever hearing Rush! I was reading about Neil Peart and thinking that I should really listen to this band. I was not expecting those vocals! They really pierced thorugh my soul. Awesome band, l look forward to hearing the entire album.

Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neal Peart probably the greatest three rock n rollers on the continent.
That's the biggest understatement EVER! (Or that Ive even given a shit about),in to long to care in this Fucked up world of OURS😮
In the world
Greatest in the whole world!
If that continent is earth, I agree
Without a doubt. The greatest 3 piece band ever!
Geddy's voice is the truth!
And he was like a magical wizard on stage back in those days ! Love it !
Mr. Peart's words are the truth too!
When it comes it at first, it's the absolute perfect timbre for the tune
On the eighth day, God created the greatest rock band ever.
you got that right brother
The Beatles? No, the Stones. No, Led Zeppelin... Rush, while great, is down the list a bit.
I totally agree, long live RUSH fans
Geddy Lee - hard to believe all that music could come out of just three men. My favorite Rush song. Love everything about it.
A trio of musicians unlike any other artists
RIP Professor there will never be a greater drummer
Amen
Amen!
Amen
amen!
No we should hope for a rock revival that would bring out even greater talent, much like Peart built on and improved what those before him did.
These lyrics still apply today:
And the men who hold high places
Must be the ones who start
To mold a new reality
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart
The blacksmith and the artist
Reflect it in their art
They forge their creativity
Closer to the heart
Yes, closer to the heart
Philosophers and ploughmen
Each must know his part
To sow a new mentality
Closer to the heart
Yes, closer to the heart
Yeah! Oh
You can be the captain
And I will draw the chart
Sailing into destiny
Closer to the heart
Closer to the heart
These lyrics applied before they were written
So true ...
He's really trying.... but another song could be written about people who wont let the power go.
Kinda scary seeing Mau Se Taung in the intro.
@@veryinteresting591 Naw. he saw a new reality. . . he moved a billion people. Impressive even if we don't agree.

such a great man
I'm re-discovering Rush!
Trailer Park Boys is great.. but this song was legendary wayyyyyyyy before the show lol. What a great Canadian band.
2 weeks before my father inlaw passed from liver cancer, i had this was playing on my phone in deer camp. It was on the quiet side and he asked me to turn it up good n loud. It was our last hunten trip together. Still crying today. He passed in early November. I am the farthest from being the family favorite by far. For some reason he asked me to be the one he split his 19 years collecting points here in ca to go with him. I am the most successful hunter in the family by far next to my dad. But for some reason my father inlaw still loved me very much, even with all my problems from being in Iraq. With him and my dad both being Vietnam veterans, I think he understood me in many different ways that the rest of the family couldn't.
The greatest bands have their own unique sound.
You would never mistake them for another band.
Closer to the Heart was the very first RUSH song I heard, 47 years ago. In the past 48 hours I've listened to it at least five times. There are are occasions when I just need to immerse myself completely into this song...every October it seems.
Had to play this one today in honor of Neil. R.I.P. to the Legend!!
Yes it is best memories ever brought back in an instance.😩

I still get teared up thinking of Neil's passing . It hit me Very hard when I found out that he was no longer with us
the men who hold high places must be the ones who start, amen
I realized a long time ago that a band doesn't have to have a number 1 song or album to be considered great, but still, I'll never understand why this song didn't top the charts. It is a perfect song!
It’s all just personal taste.. What one adores, another hates.
I’m from Buffalo NY and we have a rich tradition of Canadian radio airwaves making their way crystal clear across Lake Ontario..it blows my mind to this day that The Tragically Hip are virtually unrecognized outside Canada and Western New York. RIP Gord Downie thank you for a lifetime of memories

R.I.P. Neil you made my years on this earth a happy 1 with your drum rolls! 😭🥁
Probably one of the greatest songs by one of the greatest bands of all time.
This song is so good. Just too short.
agreed
More variety with the lyrics, Geddy keeps singing the song title too much in the end
If it were longer, the impact would be LESSER. It is PERFECT as is.
That's like saying there were too many "Love is all you need"'s at the end of All You Need Is Love or "Na Na Na NANA Na Na, Nana Na Na, Hey Jude"'s at the end of Hey Jude . . .
A common problem with Rush: so many epic songs that don't last long enough

This is a great song.
First heard RUSH in 1976. Since that moment they’ve been my favorite band and always will be. They were like an older brother to me in my youth.
A statue of Neil better be erected in his home town. His poetry transcends time!

Fuckin right
Sometimes Geddy's delivery of his lyrics give me chills and goosebumps.... I feel Rush speaks for all "artist" type people and it's beautiful.
cygnus book 2 does it for me
Best 3 piece band and Canadian made love them
Music for absolute chads🥸👌
Shockingly absent from today's music are minds of this magnitude. It is sad i have to feel some anger along with my estasy in contemplating the state of music today as it compares to that of yesterday.
yes when most of the top 10 musicians didant even play on,,drum machines and samples,,,DJ and the powers that be control and educate wrongly,,i rember the 70"s a band in every pub,,then the dj and the disco came,,that was the start mate ,,now real talent gets over looked in favor of a fast sell with there fingers in the pie
theres no heart in tunes today
Exactly, Exactly how did music devolve into what it is today?
Maybe RUSH unknowingly spelled out with the Spirit of Radio.
FM radio stations had influence into which bands made it to the top.
This guitar solo is so good, i wish it could last longer.
We never forget you Neil ✊🏽
Dude closer to the heart my god such a Amazing song in the world!
Three world class musicians. Rush is / was so talented.
