Two things stood out to me right away: "it's going to look 95% as good to the viewer (xt3 vs red)" and "RUclips compresses the shit out of your image anyway" Super smart to consider the platform you're releasing on when making camera considerations- especially when it's your own work that you'll have nothing but control over. Love that!
This man knows what he’s talking about. His work is incredible! Look at gxace videos this guy makes reviews and turns them into short movies basically. I have an xt4 and I had an a7iv. I returned the a7iv because I felt that it was not an upgrade except for AF and low light performance. For me I use single point AF and fast primes so I get around these things. Sony is extremely overhyped they have pushed the “full frame look” to the max when a lot of movies are shot on s35 sensors.
Casey's work has been a real eye opener for me, he is completely redefining the kind of work you can do for RUclips and build an audience for it. I also own and shoot with three Fuji X-T3s and while I rent Sonys for work, FX3/6/9, I agree there is something special about the image the Fujis put out that cannot be replicated on Sonys or anything else. He's such a talented guy, I really enjoy watching his videos. I want to hear more about his sound design and music choices, the soundtracks to his videos are freaking amazing.
I have been noticing how much less annoying the noise looks on the Fuji vs my Canon. Didn't really notice it or care as much till I started shooting video in darker situations more often and it's almost got me wanting to consider a switch over. Never used crop so lil worried about getting used to that, but hopefully not a dealbreaker for me. I do like to shoot below F2 most of the time.
These smaller "inexpensive" cinema cameras are powerful tools. They don't have to be REDs, Arris, or other high-end cameras. It just needs to be a camera in capable, talented hands paired with a great team.
This is honestly How I feel only with Lumix Cameras. Making the switch from the GH5/S5 combo to the A7IV was a bit of a let down for me. Great tools in certain situations, But there’s something about the Lumix and Fuji cameras that are just one of a kind.
Dude is 100 % right about the a7 shadow noise. I notice it on every shoot. And it feels wrong to me to literally over expose, but it does work. You HAVE to use false color with the Sony’s. HAVE to make sure your shadows are at around 20% ire Skin tones at around 70-75 And then find the bright “thing” in your image and make sure it’s 98-100% ire.
With all respect to the beautiful work that [Gx]Ace did, i cannot agree with him. I think he doesn't understand the point of Spenser's question about bringing down exposure in post. It's just the way this sensors works, and the worst thing you can do with Sony's footage is to shoot it underexposed in camera. And Full Frame is always better in my opinion. I tried to add APS-C cameras to my arsenal, and Fujifilm also. And FullFrame always looks better, richer, deeper. [Gx]Ace is very talented guy, and i think he can achieve beautiful result from any camera
It’s called “A Different Beyond” directed by Matthew Libatique, who also was the cinematographer for Black Swan, Iron Man 1 & 2, Straight Outta Compton, Venom, A Star Is Born, Gothika, Phone Booth among other films.
The reality is: 95% of the cameras released in the last 10 years produce amazing results… it’s up to us users to create and stop bitching about gear like tech nerds!
Own both a7siii and XT3 and one must be on some kinda "good stuff" to think they have same dynamic range. Its not even close, which is why I'm planning to upgrade to XH2s. Xt3 for the cost and the time it got released had pretty good DR but let's be real now. Noise, yes, is more noticeable on a7siii if you dont expose it right coz of the bigger pixels where as XT3 noise gets squished down due to being downsampled from 6k.
I would never take the XT3 over my A7iv. The idea of intentionally shooting underexposed sounds like a recipe for disaster. Pretty much any mirrorless camera will give you noise in the shadows if you shoot underexposed.
Thank you Casey -[Gx]Ace for coming on and talking. Check his patreon out here! - www.patreon.com/GxAce
Thanks for having me, Spenser! It was quite fun!
What's the short film? I'd love to see more
You need to make a clip together with Lorn

The xt3 still holds up extremely well in this day in age.....those images were crazy!
Even his webcam looks atmospheric
Because he use a Sony Cam
webcam???

The camera you're most comfortable with is best
Thank you for featuring the Ace! You and him have such inspiring, no nonsense content. Much love from East Tennessee🙏
If the image is 95% as good and the workflow is 10x easier, than it seems like an obvious choice!

This guy is my inspiration and to find out he used an xt3, the same one I bought when I first started, is amazing and so motivational
When i as a European listen to you guys, the only thing i here is: "like" . haha... Thanks for the talk. Really interesting stuff.
Exactly. As an immigrant in the US, I find the general lack of ability to speak clearly without using meaningless "like"s disturbing.
Yeah… sorry about that hahaha

Was the short ever released? I saw a post on GxAce's Patreon mentioning it, but I can't find it anywhere...
I think it was released last week actually. He posted it on his IG.
Even his webcam setup looks hawt 🔥 guy knows his colours no matter what camera 🙌
My 2 favorite channels in one place 🎥 This was amazing
Where can I see the short that gxace made?

this is like the exact centre of my RUclips Venn diagram!! Love this!!
both of you are my biggest inspiration 😌

Can anyone tell me where to find the short film which hes referring to?
GxAce is my favorite creator on RUclips
Do you have info on the lens that was talked about, for the short?
How long is the full video?? This was amazing content! Also is it the $3 or $10 tier to access the full video??
Fuji is better, thats why he shoots everything on his sony 7s III Rig
Does anyone happen to know the name of the short film shot with the xt3?
It’s called “A Different Beyond” directed by Matthew Libatique, who also was the cinematographer for Black Swan, Iron Man 1 & 2, Straight Outta Compton, Venom, A Star Is Born, Gothika, Phone Booth among other films.
@@ediwitdaheat7798 no that's wrong

Why is there a f... Squarespace Ad in the Interview if I have to PAY to watch on Patreon???????
Photography only, I see Fuji taking the cake. The Sony feels like it’s only competing with Canon and that’s fine.
He is completely right about the sony, its horrible in low light, but it renders skin better than the fuji
Not sure how I feel about sitting through an ad reel for it only to be a patreon teaser.
GxAce is basically youtube Jesus. He's so good.
XT3 is still one of the best-value 4k60p 10bit camera out there. But for wedding and event, I'd still stick with Sony.
What a fun channel

How about the xh2s the same price with a74
This is awesome.

I have come to hate squarespace with a vengence. Do I have to hear about them 100 times a day? No.
Casey, how can one sponsor a fake ad for a fake product in 2045?
Pretty lame to paywall this conversation
Note to self. Remove "like" from vocabulary
Is that a disease that’s making ten voice like that?
YES - Of course Fuji is better than Sony. ANYTHING is better than Sony, but in particular Fuji -
