wow, I wanted this one forever. I"m 50 and I wanted it as a teenager but it was always more than I could afford. I need to look into it getting one now. Thanks for sharing Mark.
Same here, my friend, always wanted one, now I am a happy boy! Hope you can finally get one too. It seems to be very popular with Tamiya fans around the world. Best wishes to you, take care! :O)
My brother and I each got a Brat for Christmas in 1983 , we didn’t understand what the poly body was for at the time . I think we ruined them trying to cut them out . So we finished them with the hard body and had a blast with them . I think they came with a 380 motor also . Fun times .
Hi Eric! Thanks for the great comment my friend. Wow, you had the original? How cool is that! I know what you mean, when we first got into Tamiya kits here, we were pretty clueless, but we live and learn, that's what it's all about. Good to hear you enjoyed the trucks with the hard bodies! All the best from Mark... 😁👍
Absolutely, Tibster! Hopefully this will keep me out of trouble for a few days! I may be able to build the chassis in a few hours, but not those bodies, matey! ATB from Mark... 😁👍
Thanks again for sharing fellas. I have a soft spot for this kit. My dad had a real one. We called them a Brumby, down under and they were a really good car and sold very well. It’s a pity they didn’t sell that well internationally. A favourite with the farmers as they had no window frame on the doors. So easy for going shooting etc. 👍🤓🇦🇺
...And thank you again for taking the time to leave a comment, Paul! Your dad had the real thing? How cool is that!?!?! Thanks for the info, I'll enjoy this little Brumby! Hehe, we are not allowed to shoot out of car windows here in the UK, sounds like a lot of fun! Take care, mate! 😎👍
Hey great stuff guys. Really good to see you the other day. Sorry we couldn't stay a bit longer to get involved in this unboxing. Needed to get cracking and get to Stoke in time for dinner and the 80's nightclub. Hopefully there will be another opportunity soon. I'm still on hols and haven't had a chance to review the footage we did but hopefully it's good. Anyway just getting ready for a bit of a night out in Blackpool. Most enjoyable so far. Hope you have fun with the Brat kit. It's a nice one to do and two projects in one as you say. The hard body shell took me an age. Hope you have a drink on the go what with it being Friday. Enjoy your weekend mate 😁🍺🍺
Hiya matey! Yes, a great pleasure to meet you, too! Never mind, I'm sure we will team up again in the future for some RC and video fun. Great to hear your break is going well, be sure not to drink Blackpool dry! Enjoy the rest of it and have a safe journey home. Oh yeah, Friday evening involved TOO many beers, in fact! Cheers! 😁👍
Hi guys, niiiiiiiiiiice unboxing. I really like this Subaru Brat kit, i might treat meself to one fer Christmas 🎄. I think it’s a special kit, it’s got a lotta history behind it. I’ve got a special Tamiya kit coming from the good ole US of A . I’d never seen one before, but I just had to get it. Again guys, great video. 😎👍👍👍🇬🇧
Hello, Mikey! Yeah, you must treat yourself to the mighty Brat! You deserve it mate! Definitely an iconic Tamiya with a great history. I'm very intrigued by this mystery Tamiya you got coming - c'mon man, spill the beans! All the best, matey! 😎👍
Good night Mark and Rob, good morning from here! I think it's actually amazing to follow these unboxings (and builds) of different kits, see how the Tamiya engineers over the years have had different solutions in play. Some kits are quite similar in technology but then some are completely different, even though they're all just plastic toy cars. It's fun to see. Yeah, and I got no idea why you'd want to cut out that window in the lexan body, it would take away a lot of strength. Anyway, have a great weekend there, Mark! (I just got first snow here, so definitely some indoor activities for me, either some video work or rebuild my G6-01, let's see... Now a coffee and more video watching)
Hello my friend, Mads! I'm happy to read that you enjoy these unboxings, it's always fun to look inside a newly opened Tamiya kit. I never get tired of it! Definitely some wild and wacky solutions to the same problem (how to make a chassis that is good handling over rough terrain) and Tamiya have, luckily for us, made a variation of configurations! This particular one is a bit crazy but seems to do OK as far as I have seen. Definitely not cutting that window out, Mads. Wow, if we got snow here today I'd be running an RC in it! Have fun, my friend... 😎👍
Well guys this IS a great looking rig for sure. I bet it will look great when you're done. Oh and ALL tires smell great. Specially when they are new. lol
Hiya, Nickster! Hope it comes out OK, at least I've got 2 bodies, ONE of them must look the business when complete! Haha, I agree, buddy, that's why I just have to sniff all the tyres on every kit! Cheers - Take care, my friend. 😎👍
Cheers, gotta agree it's a cool looking kit! I can save the hard body for a little project later on, just get on with the Lexan shell for now, that should keep me busy enough! Oooh, those tyres! Definitely soke the windows, too. Have a smashing weekend! 😁👍
Absolutely Awesome piece off kit yet again and Pete is a great guy buying this for you 👍 its good that it comes with 2 bodies 👍alot to do with this Rig, its going to look amazing Tyre Sniffer lol 😆 🤣 great review and a great video brother 👍 Hope you have a wonderful weekend guys 👍😎🥰👍 BBBOOOOOM 💥💣💥

Hiya, Wilfred! So good of you to comment! It sure will be "absolutely fabulous" to have you follow along with me, if it wasn't for your kindness I wouldn't be on this particular RC journey at all!!! Take care, mate! 😁👍

Hi Mark, great in depth unboxing as always. It's good that you explain what everything is for as many unboxing videos just don't bother. I've built two of these ( if you include The Frog ) and it's the weirdest chassis I've ever come across. Everything goes together well though as you'd expect with Tamiya, but I do remember one piece of the electronics ( cant remember which ) gets buried inside the chassis and is hard to get to. Nice idea in treating the hard shell as a separate entity for a different project / video too - that shell will take as long as the chassis to build, paint and finish as I'm sure you know. Great stuff as always Mark and have a top weekend bud....🙂🙂🥂.
Hey, dude - hope all is well! Cool that you like the detailed unboxing, I feel I haven't done a very good job if I just wave the unopened plastic bags at the camera! Sure is a crazy chassis, but seems to handle pretty good, as do most of Tamiya's wacky creations. I think it's the servo that's hard to get at when the chassis is finished. Definitely saving the hard body till next year, I've got so much on the go already and want to build the Holiday Buggy soon. Thanks for the great message, wishing you a cracking weekend, too. 😎👍
Hi Mark, hope you’re keeping well. Honestly Mark, the Subaru Brat must have been my most enjoyable build so far. I really loved building this kit. All those metal parts, just proved why Tamiya were the RC Model manufacturer in the 80’s. This being the Rerelease version, you got the best of the chassis, with all the previous design issues of the 80’s ironed out. The fact when you start on step 1, you’ve actually got to open all the parts bag immediately, means you get stuck into the kit build immediately, love it! The gearbox look out for the B1 part ( white cap ) I missed one and had to go back and put it in, although loved having to go back into the gearbox. Great having the choice of ratios, the bead lock wheels, I sprayed mine silver. As long as you line up the notch in the 3 parts of the wheels, they are really easy ( yes the do smell nice too ). Shocks are really quality and that unorthodox front suspension system was a revolution in its time. ( Ampro engineering do upgrades ) but I’m leaving mine stock, tribute to the classic car that it is. That resin body, wow! Detailed and time to mask and paint, you’lol love it! In your master full hands, I’m sure you’ll produce a stunning body, what ever colour you chose. Enjoy the build, it’s one of my favourites! Take care, keep well and all the best to you and the family. 😉😁😉
Hi John! Many thanks for the great comment and the heads-up info! Definitely one of my favourite Tamias too - can't wait to get stuck into the kit build. So good it has those issues from the past ironed out. I think i will keep the wheels white, but I bet the silver looks very cool! I will also leave the front suspension stock, seems to work better than the sum of it's parts! You did a fantastic job with your Brat, congrats, mate - I hope mine is half a s good as your wonderful job. I'll do my very best, as you know, my friend. Take care too and I hope your week is going well - cheers! :O)
This is a lovely bit of kit, I know it’s gonna come out beautiful Mark! I had a heck of a time putting those boots on my Monster Beetle! Another great unboxing gentleman!👍😊
Hi Jeremy, yes, I'm really looking forward to this one my friend. Ahh, I have had experience of those rubber boots on my old Monster Beetle and the Wild One - definitely tricky little so and so's!!!! All the best, brother! 👍😊
STILL me favorite ORV vehicle!! I'm nearly jealous of you - but too much love and respect to have ANY animosity! 🖖👌😊 I really want one......... Can't wait for the Bui!d - and your magic on BOTH Bodies!!! 🙏👊👌 ATB my Brother, have a great and safe Weekend Mate!! 😉🍻🍻🍻🍻
Cheers, Bro! Nah, I know you would never be jealous of a friend! The feeling is mutual, Carmine! I think I'll leave the hard body for later, as I want to get me Oliday Buggy done next! Same to you, love and best wishes to you and your family! 😁👍
@@MarkBryanRC I'm GETTING a Brat..... Somehow. 😖 I forgot it has the Frog Front Springs, no Dampers. Part of me is inclined to leave it that way... Part of me wants to fit small Dampers to the front! 😜 Of COURSE I have to GET one first!!! Approximately 3 weeks more to getting Wild Ones!!! 😃😁😁😁😁
I always liked the Subaru Brat body, great looking car. I used to the Mud Blaster years ago, that was so much fun, probably the closest I'll ever get to this kit. Great video, can't wait to see it up and running!!
Got to agree with that, Barry! Sweet set of wheels. Oh, if only we could go back in time and rescue our old RC's! But great memories, all the same. Thanks for your great comments, always a pleasure, my friend! 😁👍
Always fancied doing this one mate ! Tinted windows 😺how cool is that 👍looks like a great kit for sure, I will be tuning in for this build! Thanks for your upload 👍🙏
Hiya, Cat - yeah, same here, this has been on my list for a while! Now I can get to work and build it! Loving all the metal bits that are included. Thanks for the comments, mate, ATB! 👍
Thanks Paul - yeah, the extra level of detail on the hard body is always good for the GoPro! I'm surprised at how well this video is doing, there is a lot of love for the Brat out there! All the best, Bro! 👍
Sure is, Del! Really looking forward to this one, a little slice of Tamiya history with some of the issues ironed-out! Hope all is good with you, dude! 😁
Fab unboxing! Looking forward to the build video for this one 👍 I had a Saturday job a Waltons Model Shop in the mid/late 80s through work experience at school and remember this one........think it may have come with a 380 motor too. Enjoy!
Many thanks for the comment, Paul - Oh yes, I remember staring at Tamiya kits through the hobby shop windows back in the 80's! They were so expensive back then... glad I got some of the one's I wanted all those years ago. All the best, Paul!
Awesome my friend, Can't wait to watch these build & painting video's. The wife (we) just got some "Elf Magic", I think he knows the Super Avante got pushed back another month here (Lazy people at the docks or I should say, lack of workers at the docks), It's to be released in November now, seems like a lot will be coming out in November. Awesome kit again Mate!!!!! John Foster just posted his ABS body work video. ATB to you & the family my friend!!!
Cheers, mate, and that's awesome news that you got some more Elf magic coming your way! Hopefully give you guys more to do in the RC world! Sad to hear the release date is delayed, I haven't heard anything about our release date in the UK yet. Fingers crossed! Stay well and a wonderful weekend to you guys, too! :D
Greetings to you, Fons! Yes, this really looks like a great kit to build, I just know I will enjoy it. Thanks for the great comments, always a pleasure, my friend! 😁
Hello! Yes, I think the hard body will be a project in it's own right! Looking forward to that beauty. I don't blame you for keeping it as a shelfie, but I'll definitely be bashing mine with the Lexan body on! All the best from Mark... 😁👍
I love how this comes with the different gear options. I just finished building the Heavy Dump truck and had to run back to the hobby shop to pick up the 20t pinion. Wish all their kits came with them but I suppose practicing some patience isn't going to kill me.
Yeah, it's good to have the options in the kit, the two bodies are cool, too! I also have the Dump Truck, tons of fun is that RC! I'm the same, can't wait for the next hop-up!!! 😜👍
Looks like a really interesting kit Mark. Not one I have been looking at but will watch your build with interest. Thanks for the great content as always 🙌🏻
Cool, thanks mate! Yeah, I do think this is an interesting one, too. I'm really looking forward to getting started on the build, hopefully make a start next week. Lots of other projects to finish up as well! Thank you for watching my videos, all the best from Mark... 😁👍
Thanks for sharing this Mark. You have made up my mind to get a brat body for my old original frog that I brought new in the 80s. It’s been stripped to the bone of parts as I was racing every week back then so is not quite a rolling chassis and has been sat in the loft looking worse for wear. I’ve always fancied a brat so perhaps a good opportunity to give it a fresh new look
Hi, Peter! Glad to have made your mind up! I really is a fantastic body with tons of detailing. Cool that you still got the original chassis (like you, I still have my original '86 Monster Beetle chassis). Sounds like a great project, enjoy it my friend! :O)
@@MarkBryanRC They was all different in the day, and to be used and fixed and home made mods, and I own a ranger, scorcher, rough rider and a few other retro cars even a 80's Hornet
Wow, you have a great collection! Some very cool Tamiyas indeed. I agree, making home-made fixes and mods is all part of the fun! It's what I always enjoyed doing. Have a lovely weekend! 👍
Cheers, mate! Wow, you got one from the RC Elf? Sure is a generous chap indeed. Hehe, well, I'll do my best, but I'm sure I'll make a few errors along the way, as per! I look forward to seeing yours very soon. Take care, dude! 😁
Looks like you’re gonna have fun with your Big Brat, hope it’s not to sassy, 😂! I just realized when watching your video, I forgot to smell my tires, 😂. I wouldn’t know a good rubber smell from a bad one though, 😂. Have a great weekend Mark! We are finally getting some good rainy days. Supposed to be heavy winds on Sunday, so gotta batten down the hatches.😁👍🤗⛈🌬
Hi Christine, hehe, yeah it sure will be a fun build! And of course you must remember to sniff the tyres like a seasoned RC pro! Haha, not really, it's just something us daft Brits decided to do! Makes us smile, but they actually do smell nice! Are you looking to build your first Tamiya yet? I think you should try one! Hope you keep out of that nasty weather and stay warm and dry - all the best my friend! 😁👍
@@MarkBryanRC I think tire sniffing is a good trademark for my favorite Brits to have 😁👍🤗! Makes me smile too 😃. Tamiya kit will be on my Christmas list, unless I get one before. It doesn’t look like I will have time to build until after Christmas. If you could recommend a good beginner kit, I would appreciate it, hopefully one you have a video for. Kind of getting a cold right now (hate to admit getting sick 🙁🤧). Been taking meds, so hopefully it won’t get worse. You stay well my friend!🤗👍🙏
@@4cmjohn8 Oh dear, Christine, I hope you can fight off that cold! Fingers crossed, and for a Christmas Tamiya, too! I think the Holiday Buggy would be an excellent first kit, as you don't need to paint the body! Simple to put together, I'll be doing a build guide soon! Stay well, sister! :O)
@@MarkBryanRC Thank you Mark! Yes, would rather not paint my first one, 😃. And One with less little bits, 😁. Drinking tea and having soup on this cold blustery rainy day. I will be better soon.👍🙏
Ah, always one of the most nostalgic kits for me - my second ever RC. I enjoyed seeing all that, cheers! That is weird about cutting out one lexan window while presumably painting over then stickering the rest... what?! I suppose it's to see the driver, by why put stickers on the rest then? So Tamiya... 🤣 Anyway, enjoy the build, looking forward as always to seeing it running! (especially with the hard body) 👍
Hiya, Steve! Always nice to be reminded of our first kits, I had the Monster Beetle on this chassis but never had a Brat. Looking forward to it! Yeah, I'm not gonna cut out that window but I might make some masks and just add a little smoke paint! I think the driver is for the hard body, but I'll see if I can stick him into the Lexan one! Deffo so Tamiya! Cheers, mate, hope the weekend is going well! 👍😊
Nice unboxing Mark. Funny enough I never had a brat on my channel but by chance I got one just like yours but it was all done etc anyway I’ve filmed it and will release it at some point. It’s a cool kit though. Sadly I couldn’t keep the brat but maybe in the future I’ll pick one up again, look forward to your build. Take care :)
Hello mate! Look forward to seeing that Brat on your channel. Oh yes, Andy, if only we could keep them all, but as time goes on, hopefully we can keep more and more! I'm sure you will get one again. All the best, fella! 👍😊
It’s a fun build and a nice runner. But my front wheel fell off . I think it’s happened to a few brat owners . It was kinda comical when it happened. Watching the wheel bounce away like a cartoon . So my guess is best not jump to much or put to much impact on the front wheels . Look forward to seeing the finished result 👍
Oh No, Dom! Hope my wheels don't fall off like yours! Sounds like a common issue, I'll keep an eye on that front suspension. Hehe, I bet it was rather funny to see happen, not too bad if you can find all the bits to fit it back together. I'll be sure to run mine as safely as I can. Thanks for the great comment, all the best from Mark... 😎👍
@@MarkBryanRC It’s the metal knuckle thing. It might be worth ordering a spare ? I ended up bodging it with plastic ones from the rising fighter and a long screw and bolt. Ugly but it worked . Anyway you know RC cars 🤷♂️😂 who knows. Hope yours is fine mate👍 baring that no issues with the kit . Great body to paint and it looks stunning . Are you going red? That’s the nice thing with that kit. You have two bodies👍
@@rc-dom-uk Thanks for the heads-up! Ahh, I have some spare knuckles as I bought the metal bag from this kit to upgrade my Monster Beetle drivetrain. Thinking of blue for one body and yellow for the other... but that may change! Cheers!

Thanks very much! Wow, you have kept the original all these years - that's so cool! All the best from Mark.. :O)
STILL me favorite ORV vehicle!! I'm nearly jealous of you - but too much love and respect to have ANY animosity! 🖖👌😊
I really want one.........
Can't wait for the Bui!d - and your magic on BOTH Bodies!!! 🙏👊👌
ATB my Brother, have a great and safe Weekend Mate!! 😉🍻🍻🍻🍻
BTW, if I had one, I'd cut out the Head and Tail Lights, to fit custom LEDs and Lenses.
Are you feeling risky too!!?? 😁
Good idea, but I think I'll just paint them, too many projects and not enough time, sadly!
Cheers, Bro! Nah, I know you would never be jealous of a friend! The feeling is mutual, Carmine!
I think I'll leave the hard body for later, as I want to get me Oliday Buggy done next!
Same to you, love and best wishes to you and your family! 😁👍
@@MarkBryanRC
I'm GETTING a Brat..... Somehow. 😖
I forgot it has the Frog Front Springs, no Dampers. Part of me is inclined to leave it that way... Part of me wants to fit small Dampers to the front! 😜 Of COURSE I have to GET one first!!!
Approximately 3 weeks more to getting Wild Ones!!! 😃😁😁😁😁
Oh and be CAREFUL if you fit the massive 380 Motor to the Oliday Buggy!! 😳😂
Great Kit Mark. These hard body off-road RCs look greet on film when complete. This is going to be a popular build series. Take care👍🏾
Thanks Paul - yeah, the extra level of detail on the hard body is always good for the GoPro! I'm surprised at how well this video is doing, there is a lot of love for the Brat out there! All the best, Bro! 👍
Lovely! I can't wait to watch you build this chassis.
Sure is, Del! Really looking forward to this one, a little slice of Tamiya history with some of the issues ironed-out! Hope all is good with you, dude! 😁
@@MarkBryanRC Indeed it is, than you, Mark. And with you, I hope?
Awsome kit you have there mate, enjoy the build , you can do it👍👍
Greetings my friend.
Greetings to you, Fons! Yes, this really looks like a great kit to build, I just know I will enjoy it. Thanks for the great comments, always a pleasure, my friend! 😁
Painting the hard body is a bit of a job. But it looks so good when finished.
My Brat is a shelf queen. Enjoy the build.
agreed! 😎👍
Hello Mark! Soon you can put lights on your Brat as AMPro releases the light buckets for the Brat :) Finally!
Hello, Kalle! Wow, thanks for the heads-up - I had no idea they were available. All the best, my friend!
Cracking kit and must get one again, as I love the retro stuff
Got to agree with that, Nicola! Can't beat a retro Tamiya! 👍
@@MarkBryanRC Cheers as I am loading my vintage FAV with modern esc and receiver plus a M06 Build for a general lee build
Sounds great - I wish you a lot of fun with the rejuvenated FAV and the M06! 👍
Good Brat unboxing, the RC Elf has sent one of these to else, nice chap he is. Looking forward to see how you get on so we can swerve the mistakes 😂
Cheers, mate! Wow, you got one from the RC Elf? Sure is a generous chap indeed. Hehe, well, I'll do my best, but I'm sure I'll make a few errors along the way, as per! I look forward to seeing yours very soon. Take care, dude! 😁
@@MarkBryanRC I think the 2 shells is exciting, yet daunting so we will have to see what can be made of them!
@@RCsoandso Agreed - It will be interesting to see how similar/different our finished articles are!
Happy new year Mark. All the very best to you and your family and friends. I hope you also had a great Christmas 👍
Happy new year to you too, Jim! Hope yours Xmas was a good one, mine was very nice thanks! Cheers! 🍺😎👍
Good show cant wait to see what you do with this one best wishes to you and your family.
Thanks a ton, Kev! Yeah, this is going to be a cool truck indeed! Best to you and yours, too, my friend! 👍
Great content friend 👍 keep it up 👍 Big 👍 from XpertBoost Gaming.
Thank you, friend, I will do my best - thanks very much for the nice comment! 😁👍
Cheers!
with all due respect damn your video... its this one and watching john foster do his.i love how many parts come in the box...Ive got rc's for sale! or trade for brat! lololol
So sorry for the stress this video caused you, Rex! But you are right, this is a Tamiya to desire! Love the way it looks in the box, even better when I get it all screwed together! Go for it, brother! 😁👍
Awesome vid just a thought lexan body Subaru livery like top gear 🤔
Hi Chris. That would be cool to do a Top Gear version, great idea! All the best, mate! 😁
wonder what chassis that could go on, the hard body. m chassis long is 239 mm.....cc-01 chassis short is 242mm....hmmm
Hmmm, yes indeed, Rex! So many options to think about, this body would look so cool on any chassis of the correct dimensions! Food for thought... :D
the blackfoot body fits a cc01
Just one question, what is a wind screen? A screen allows air to pass through an object such as an opening, I think you mean wind shield!!!!
Sorry Ralph, the windscreen is behind the bonnet and in front of the boot!!! 😅😬👍
I wish tamiya would put the wheelbase measurements on this. They put all of the other measurements.
Too right, I got to agree with you, very annoying!
PETE WYLIE he said "STIFF"
Hey Rex, SHHHHHH!!!! Don't give Pete any help! :D
LOL

Much appreciated, Samina - thank you! 😎
