  • Here in Part Two the raspberry jam is made and bottled and I get very confused between black currants, blackberries, syrup and jelly and my brain freezes entirely.

Totally late to the game, but if you're ever in possession of much rhubarb again, orange-rhubarb marmalade is fantastic. Oh yum! Let me know if you'd like the recipe any time. Loving your videos. Thanks.

I add rhubarb pieces to soups and stews, adds fiber and texture and a teeny sour touch.

I love those wax covers - never seen them before - we melt wax into top of jar - I was wondering why you were filling them up to top - we left space for wax. My Granny taught me how to make jams and jellies and I have her wax melting kettle (granite ware). I love the smell of jam making!

I have never seen the wax application. Clever. I have always had to carefully melt blocks of solid paraffin in an old double boiler.

Growing up in the 1950s-1960s, I remember our jelly having wax! I began trying to figure it out & suddenly you began using it! Thanks!

I love the idea is using the upside down stool for straining the black berry juice. Growing up in Alaska we had a huge hook in the ceiling of the utility room for hanging the jelly bag overnight, but our home has no such convenient place to do that, but I do have a nice stool so will use that when I make blackberry jelly from the berries in the freezer. I am learning so much from your vlogs, thanks.

The closest I've come to making jam is my mixed berry compote, which is lighter in sugar and thickened with a cornstarch slurry. It is not shelf stable though, must be refrigerated.

Remove your sticky labels with a bit of cooking oil. So you won't waste your oil keep it inawaah pail a small enough to lay jars. Then I keep my wash rag, same rag and you can also use your rag to dust your furniture that isn't painted. And you don't have to buy chemicals to polish your nice wood furniture. I keep my pail in the wash room on the shelf nothing happens to it.
