    Soprano1 Choir Part Practice: "Hodie Christus natus est" by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621), is from his collection of motets entitled "Cantiones sacrae". Hodie Christus Natus Est comes from the liturgy of the vesper service for Christmas day. This popular version is a five-voice work of contrapuntal interplay. Each section is lead by the tenors singing Hodie, and culminates in a skillful overlapping of Noe (Noel) and Alleluia.
    Latin and English text follows:
    Hodie Christus natus est
    hodie Salvator apparuit:
    hodie in terra canunt Angeli,
    laetantur Archangeli:
    hodie exsultant justi, dicentes:
    Gloria in excelsis Deo, alleluja.
    Today is Christ born;
    today the Savior has appeared;
    today the Angels sing,
    the Archangels rejoice;
    today the righteous rejoice, saying:
    Glory to God in the highest. Alleluia!
