This carol and choir, takes you back to the essence of being. The personification of love. the sentient voices of those loved ones long gone, peaceful , harmonious.
In 1964 I lived in a small village called Mickleover in Derby. There was a new church that had recently been built, our award winning school choir walked in singing this carol. I was bursting with pride at the capacity audience, it still lives me 60 years later.
This particular arrangement is by far my favorite for this underrated hymn. Especially that descant at the end, it's like the heavens opened up and all the angels sang with a joyous voice. And I think this choir did a magnificent performance, BRAVO!!
6. Not in that poor lowly stable, With the oxen standing by, We shall see Him; but in heaven, Set at God's right hand on high; Where like stars His children crowned All in white shall wait around.
Yes, I sang it in my children's (Anglican) church choir (Christ The King, Bahamas) as a little boy as a soloist. Have loved it ever since. Thank you Mr. Seifert, our choir director.😍
I haven’t an idea of the hymn or the words. However its sheer beauty and effect on my soul draws me to it over and over. I respond to this with tears for reasons unknown to me. My heart opens and my pain flows out and I am soothed.
I listen to this while studying abroad in the USA on a quiet night, it takes me back to the warmth of being with my family at Christmas, and the joy of my younger self at the idea of being with my grandparents. The warmth of the yellow bulb light of their houses after Christmas dinner and the bleak cold of the English winter outside. This takes me back to those nice times and being cold in the village church on Christmas Eve. Thank you for the upload
Stay strong over the pond, and may you feel what you so perfectly put in words once again upon your return. And I hope you may one day become the parent and later the grandparent who shall visit the tenderness and warmth of what you described, but upon your descandents; and them upon theirs.
Glad to see and hear that Christianity is alive in Great Britain. Mrs. C. F. Alexander, who wrote "Once in Royal David's City," "There is a Green Hill Far Away," and "All Things Bright and Beautiful" is one of the best hymnwriters. The performance by Trinity College here is beautiful. Queen Elizabeth would be pleased.
This is to Mrs Muriel Wallace. A petite, strong and lovely 80 year old British woman I worked for. Describing this song being in the yearly Christmas program with the Royal family made her voice break, remembering and longing to hear it again. That’s what brought me here. So lovely, just like my memory of 1987 with Mrs. Wallace.
Christmas without music is IMPOSSIBLE! Thank you, you wonderful singers, for giving me the gift of your voices and your music to warm my heart in these very special Christmas days! I hope to hear you soon again in Germany.
Thank you to each and every member of the choir for what you have given us in this sequence of carols. You have given your hearts in this work and I feel like I have come to know each of your personally and have come to love you. Now, with each new carol it's like being greeted by old friends. Merry Christmas, friends.
Waaaaoooohh!!! This is an extraordinarily fantastic rendition of the Christmas song. The members of the choir sand with all their hearts and emotion. The connection with the song was powerful. God bless you all.
You've made a playlist for these works of art! Fantastic! I work in a supermarket, and in my opinion this music is infinitely more preferable to the stuff I've had to put up with for the past two months 😃👍👌
Big thank you to the Church Rev and also the choir and the Choir Master for the hard work you all put it it just takes me back to 93 how I used to roll out the pages and give my Grandpa to sing BASS at HOLY CROSS CHRCY And my Grandpa will sing load drowning the Church is the voice PERCY SAMUEL EDWARDS when I type your name I'm crying pa because your not with us to listen to these songs May your soul rest in Jesus hands pa Amen
So glad to hear David Willcocks arrangement again. King's College has changed to using Stephen Cleobury's arrangement, which in my opinion, doesn't have the same power as this one.
#tessetestimonies #tessetestimonies #tesseOGHENE as I waited to join the singing THE LORD JOINED ! HALLELUYAH PRAISE THE LORD!!! WHO GAVE THE HOPE we have from CHRISTMAS!!!
Thank you for uploading these! Stuck at home as we are, I appreciate this greatly. Just finished watching last year's Advent service (December 1, Sunday 2019), and it is full of God's Glory and Presence!
Once in royal Davids city, Stood a lowly cattle shed, Where a mother laid her Baby, In a manger for His bed: Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ, her little Child. He came down to earth from heaven, Who is God and Lord of all, And His shelter was a stable, And His cradle was a stall: With the poor, and mean, and lowly, Lived on earth our Saviour holy. For He is our childhood's pattern; Day by day, like us, He grew; He was little, weak, and helpless, Tears and smiles, like us He knew; And He cares when we are sad, And he shares when we are glad. And our eyes at last shall see Him, Through His own redeeming love; For that Child so dear and gentle, Is our Lord in heaven above: And He leads His children on, To the place where He is gone.

Would you by chance, be able to post the words for the descant?

Absolutely LOVE that descant! It's part of the fun of being a first soprano. We get to sing that great descant!! 😂
Love this after singing in uni choir. Beautiful harmonies and the ending as mentioned.
Many times the human voice is hard, strong, angry even
But then I hear this choir and everything is right with the world.
Glory to God! Hallelujah He is born

Absolutely beautiful. Looks like Kings college has some serious competition!!
Well Kings is traditionally an all boys/men choir, Trinity is adult mixed - very different sounds.

The bescant (the best descant)
I literally just came here to leave a comment about the one true descant, and I’ve already commented about the descant four months ago.
Not performed nearly enough at Christmas.
At 4:52 is the girl at the front singing the descant?
No I don't think so
I thought she actually was?

beuatiful BUT hard to understand some itmes, the words should have more clarity than beauty for they are far more important.
