As an Australian I can confirm this is the type of awkwardness in most interactions, even outside of dating. Due to our small population (esp the young and new immigrant communities - me being included) we have an identity crisis. Hence everyone is still learning about each other and attempting to form a single identity. Until then, this is its impact on us!
Or men and women were never taught by their forefathers and foremothers how to interact with the opposite sex. Most young men nowadays have never attempted a cold approach, which is what this is.
No, it isn't like this for all Australians. I'm 43 and I've never seen anything like this level of cringe, and most of my friends were geeks. The problem is that the generation in this video don't know how to interact in person because they do most of it digitally. The previous generations didn't have issues interacting because we had no choice but to do it in person.
Australia also doesn't have an identity crisis - most Australians wouldn't agree with you. You may have a different perspective as an immigrant so your experience is different, but those born and raised in Australia are fully aware of our identity, even if it is changing due to immigration.

I was in Australia about 8 years ago and I must say, the women were uptight but, I guess I had game to hold a conversation which immediately piqued their interest. Now bear in mind, I was a 29 year old black male, I couldn't tell if she was referring to my race or my confidence lol 😂, was mildly thrown off with that complement.

I get that having game & being charming is an art/skill, which takes time to develop. But damn, those cringy pickup lines do not work like 90% of the time.
