    Nice build! Expert technique there in putting in the bevel and forming the curve. Can wait to see what you bring to the Bowie Challenge! 👍🏻

      Thanks! I can't wait to get started, right now I'm going through the design stages trying to decide on what direction to go, but I have a pretty good idea what I'm going to do, I just need to finalize a few things.

    Liked the way you forged the knife, reminds me of a video I have of Bill Moran's method of forming the clip point.

      Thank you! I greatly appreciate it, I love Bill Moran's work, Harvey Dean's as well, I am hoping to do more Bowie/western style knives in the future, I'm considering a Buffalo skinner style in the near future. Thank you for watching!

    soaking the rough forged blade in salt and vinegar for 30 min will get rid of forge scale and save on abrasives... it can be cleaned up with a kitchen scrubbie

    Love watching you (and others) work scrap steel, but as a guy who trained and certified in NDI (non-destructive Inspection) of steel - the possibility of serious micro fractures makes me skip the savings and buy steel, not salvage it.

      You are 100 percent right, it is always best to work with known steel. 1095 and 5160 are my favorite for mono steel knives, 1095 with 15n20 is my favorite combination for pattern welded steel. I appreciate you watching.

    Oh dannnngggg new setup?

      Pretty much, I moved up here to Alaska this past May, I shipped up most of my tooling with the exception of my anvil, old press and my Grizzly milling machine. I have replaced it all for the most part, I have a smaller mini mill, a new forge press and a couple of anvil shaped objects that do the job so far. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!

    • @Mysticmountainforge
      @Mysticmountainforge  3 года назад

      Now that would be a fun project to try, I may have to give that a go one of these days when I get the proper tooling made for axe making. Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
