what in the heck, i been watching knife forging vids for like 15 years and not one of them ever said anything about this magic heating up during cooling thing, that was neat! i loved this vid.
Been a knifemaker for over twenty years. I just learned about recalescence today because of your video. Now I'm diving into the rabbit hole of entropic shift and Gibbs free energy. :)
I honestly don’t understand why people diss the stock removal method so much. This is a really nice knife that a lot of care and effort was very obviously put into. Hell, they even NORMALIZED the blade! Normally you only do that after forging to shape! But they did it after grinding and cutting, which introduces way less stress! You very obviously care about your product quite a bit, well done!!!
It's because they believe the myths about forging compacting the steel and making it stronger. If that nonsense was true, billets wouldn't get longer as you draw them out, and blades wouldn't curve as you hammered one side. Physics!
I agree. I forged my knives for about 8yrs and my elbow just couldn't handle the hammer any longer. I've been doing stock removal for 6 years now. I have total respect for the forgers out there. But it's not a necessity as it once was. Great job!!
Stock removal wastes material. Ive been swinging a hammer all my life, framing houses...body work on cars/sheet metal work....teardrop hammers to form sheet metal.....now blacksmithing for 5 or so years. Easy peezy. Eddie, your elbow should have nothing to do with hammering. Technique is everything.
This blade is absolutely gorgeous! I really like the contrasting wood handle but the harpoon blade is probably the coolest I've seen in a while. Maybe my new favorite! A+
It's amazing to see this kind of Artistry. You have such a vision for the finished piece. I have so much respect for you. Thankyou for sharing your work! ⚔
You don’t know how happy it makes me that you mentioned the production quality first! Sometimes it seems like I spend more time on shooting and editing compared to actual knife making 😆
Beautiful outcome! I really like the whole thing. The flat grind with the stonewash finish and the handle too. The only thing I don't understand is what's going on in those people's heads who gave this video a thumbs down.🤔
An absolutely phenomenal knife design. Love the blade shape! A sexy version of my Esee 6 blade shape. Phenomenal knife! I’d definitely carry that in a kydex sheath!
I have never seen the 1600 flip 1500 flip 1400 flip. Maybe an old japanese concept. I was waiting for the quench and it happened. Pinning the blank after quenching in that clamp , wow. Good job.
Incredible work! Beautiful! Can you tell us more about your bevel jig and plunge line guard combination!? Love how they match together. And your rock tumbler mod. Fantastic! Thank you
Very nice, if anything it would be the back of the blade being beveled. I actually have a eye out for a knife that look a bit like this, but are a bit larger.
Thats a cool idea for normalizing the way you got the half a pipe keeping the flame from direct contact with the material. Ive been using 2×2 tubes to set my pieces in to keep the flame from contact but your way seems less tedious lol
None of us should ever be attempting to forge super alloy stainless steels, unless we have inert atmosphere forges that are extremely precise in regards of temperature and rate of temperature change. These super alloys get their qualities because of carbides that form, without falling out-to get the crystalline structure we want, it requires very precise control to land in a very narrow range. Simply put-if you forge these steels, you’re harming the product. This is why stock removal is a good technique to know. Oh, and you cannot restore the steels qualities through heat treatment once over heated or heated too quickly, unless it was truly done in an inert atmosphere.
Nice job. Fire place ashes are the best for annealing imo and they are free. Also adding material to both sides to 'sandwich' the material being annealed will soften it like butter as it retains way more heat and cools slower. Careful on grabbing sandwiched material from ashes as it will still be very warm the next day. Did you harden the steel with a quench or is it still soft and annealed? It wont hold an edge unless it is hardened. Then it is best to temper it afterwards to make it almost indestructible.
I guess I don't understand the extra heating in the ammo can ? A few clips back the point looked over heated. Now the spine has that same color ? I hope you will explain.
Hey Mitch, great job. I really like the zinc top. May I ask, what did you use to get the patina effect? I want to try this method. Thanks, really like your videos.
Hi sir wow i lv it my griend what a knife👍👍my friend the heat treatment you did amazing my friend i always say the heat treatment is the back bone of all knives thats the best iv seen mazing👍👍job god🙏bless you thank you for showing film dino in uk 👏🛸
when i saw your antiwarp vise is when I knew you were on the high planes of Messerkraftwerk and the rest of us will be as dunghill rummagers in some forgotten tropical asian islands far far away.

That’s not a knife…. THIS IS A KNIFE!!!
Absolutely gorgeous work mate and what a whopper!!!
Love your knives. They always have this look of rebellion to them.
This is one of my favorite comments by far
The blade is as fantastic as your filming and video editing. Just wow!
Really nice build! Your video production quality is excellent also. I look forward to it every time you put something out.
After watching this video I believe I can understand the cost of every custom knife on the market!!! The process is very labor intensive!!!
Just starting my knife making journey. I can appreciate this build. Nice
Wonderful work! I advise everyone to watch the work of the master!
It's amazing to see this kind of Artistry. You have such a vision for the finished piece. I have so much respect for you. Thankyou for sharing your work! ⚔

Absolutely lovely knife. I want one…..
I very much liked the production quality and presentation of the process. The knife was really nice as well. Thank you for sharing.

Look the tumbling distressing was really neat, super great idea
That was a neat trick gluing the paper between the handle scales. I'm gonna try that sometime soon. Thanks for the video. Really dig the knife.
Thanks! I recently learned that trick from this video:

This is an unusually instructive video. Thank you very much! I haven't watched a knife making video at normal speed from end to end in a long while.
Very cool! I've made knives for quite a few years, and take inspiration and whimsy as an important part of originality. Bro! You Nailed It!!🫡
That is a beauty there. You are so ready to put those on the market.
Chee! Love the name of the knife! Being from Hawaii, I’ve always appreciated the Paniolo lifestyle. 🤙🏾
Magical. Aloha from the Big Island.
Aloha! 🤙🏻
Australia?
Wow! If watching all of that work and craftmanship being utilized doesn't give you pride of ownership, I don't know what will?
Great build! Cool how you put so much workmanship into a beautiful blade. And great video too...
Thank you! Cheers!

The only thing I don't understand is what's going on in those people's heads who gave this video a thumbs down.🤔
Farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrken oath that is a thing of perfection!!! Fantastic job!! And it held the edge so well!!!!!!
An absolutely phenomenal knife design. Love the blade shape! A sexy version of my Esee 6 blade shape. Phenomenal knife! I’d definitely carry that in a kydex sheath!
Duuuuuude, your stacking the scales to get a matching cut for the segments 🤯 🤘⚡️
Beautiful blade. Nice work man, I absolutely love the makers mark. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Thanks! I’m a bit biased, but I love it too. After getting a laser engraver, I have to stop myself from putting it on everything I own.
Absolutely great piece of work/craftsmanship. Beautiful blade design with a perfectly complimenting handle. Fantastic.
Your style of work is very good. Also the Video representation is superb.
Awesome looking knife. Beautiful creation.

I’ll definitely try the sandwich method.
I did quench the steel after 3 normalizing cycles. Then 2 tempering cycles at 400°
Great build quite a informative video 🤙👊
Beautiful job there mate.Really nice.😊👍
Nice one, was a pleasure to watch.

Wow, beautiful knife !
Same steel my Gulok is made from. 5160. What's a good way to patina it to protect from aggressive rusting?
Beautiful piece. What kind of belt grinder are you using
What is the material used for your tumbling process? Just some small smooth rocks? And is the steel used from mower blade?
For the tumbling process I used landscape rocks from my backyard 😆 The steel is an old leaf spring
Nice design nice knife Wow love it
