Saba Zaidi: Veteran Drama Producer Who Introduced Anupam Kher, Irrfan Khan, Pankaj Kapoor To TV

  • Saba Zaidi, a graduate of the National School of Drama in New Delhi, joined Doordarshan as a Drama Producer in 1976. She was instrumental in introducing some of the best known film actors of our time such as Anupam Kher, Irrfan Khan and Pankaj Kapoor to the television screen in 1970s and 1980s.
    Saba Zaidi, in conversation with Pervaiz Alam, shares incredible memories of her working with Doordarshan when it was just in a start up mode. She worked with legendary filmmakers, Satyajit Ray, Shyam Benegal and MS Sathyu.
    Saba Zaidi lives in Sydney, Australia, where she has been involved in launching a South Asia specific DTH service. She also runs her theatre group, Adakaar, and has recently started acting in web series and plays, made for various OTT platforms.
    Cine Ink Mulaqat presents interviews in Hindi and Urdu with known and unknown newsmakers.

    Wonderful. I was at AMU 1962-1970. My mother, Ummihani apa, was a professor of Persian there. Then there were Zahida Zaidi and sisters. You might be related to them.

      Aligarh is a small place. we all are connected with each other. I think I (Pervaiz Alam) have met your mom as I knew Nahid Safvi of the Persian department. Nahid Apa was our mentor.
      So good to see you here Ali Waris. Saba Zaidi is the daughter of Sajida Zaidi, sister of Zahida Zaidi.

      @@CINEINK Yes, Sajida apa was the eldest of the Zaidi sisters. They all were close to my mother who retired in 1982 and died 1988.
