The duality in the spirit temple is also supported by the fact that the spirit medallion is also reminiscent to a yin-yang symbol. Great video by the way!
One thing I always wonder about when people theorize about OoT dungeons is: The dungeon designer is still alive, in fact he's the main man in the Zelda franchise right now and actively creating new Zelda games. And he seems like a pretty easy-going guy too. So why hasn't anybody done a very nerdy interview with him and asked about the background story of the dungeons? We know that there's a lot of mystery regarding the design of the Forest temple, so why hasn't anyone asked him about that?
I think that the developers intentionally never said much about the temples in order to keep an air of mystique surrounding them; to keep players wondering about what these places actually were (the fact that we're still talking about and making theories about these temples is truly the mark of a great game). Also, we wouldn't have wonderful videos such as this if the developers told people straight up everything we the players wanted to know.
I disagree with part of that theory. Snake in ancient egypt were actually worshiped. For example Wadjet was a goddess, represented as a cobra; that protected the Pharaoh from his ennemies and Ra's ennemies. The fact that the snake on the statue is on the head is probably to intimidate any ennemies (of the goddess or the Gerudo). Moreover the godess of sand could be the Goddess of time, after all people in ancient time used sand to measure Time. (sand Hourglass). the fact that light could make stones (or more likely terra cota or some kind of harden clay) crumble could simply symbolise Time. Even walls and statue do not resist to the passage of time after all.
It could be possible that the snakes throughout the temple mainly on the goddess statues represents the Kundalini. The Kundalini is represented as a serpent that rests at the bottom of the spine and is "awakened" through deep meditation and when awakened it rises from the root chakra, base of the spine, to the crown chakra, the top of the head.
Could be. Interestingly, there is a way you could interpret the Sages' Medallions as being the different Chakras based on their colors Root Chakra = Fire Medallion (Fire is associated with survival, like the Root Chakra) Sacral Chakra = Spirit Medallion (The symbol on the Spirit Medallion resembles a Yin Yang, likely representing balance, the Sacral Chakra deals with sexuality; possibly a balance between sexuality and spirituality) Solar Plexus Chakra = Light Medallion (Solar Plexus Chakra deals with willpower, the Light Sage, Rauru, is Hylian like Link, who obtains the Triforce of Courage, courage is similar to willpower) Heart Chakra = Forest Medallion (The forest is Link's home, "Home is where the heart is", 'heart' is an anagram for 'earth' [The heart is red, like the Root Chakra, but earth is green, like the heart chakra) (This one is a joke) Throat Chakra doesn't have one since there's only six Medallions and there's not a light blue: Throat Chakra deals with communication/speaking, likely why Link doesn't talk 😂 Although, the Water Temple was originally planned to be an Ice Temple, and they could've possibly considered making the Ice Medallion light blue instead of dark blue, in which case it still would've been a valid interpretation since Link's communication center would've been "frozen" still (unable to move) 😂 Third Eye Chakra = Water Medallion (Third Eye deals with the mind and understanding/intuition, there's that old saying that the mind is like water; it's murky when turbulent but clear when still) Crown Chakra = Shadow Medallion (The Shadow Temple contains undead beings / spirits and deals with death/darkness, as well as the use of architectural illusions, the Crown Chakra deals with union of the spirit and "ego death" along with seeing through illusions)
This is just my theory. You know about the Arbiters grounds in TP? I personally belive that it is the remains of the Spirit temple. I mean the statue in the sprite temple is also in Arbiters grounds. I don't think the snake elements were there as a sign of evil. I mean, lets assume their long life, and ability to take on a perfect form when they combined as better signs of divinity then mind control. They could have been seen as priestesses of the goddess, and when they transformed, the goddess herself. now Snakes are often attributed to the desert and they shed their skin, and have new fresh skin underneith. those could have been there to symbolize their transformation into a healthy young woman.
So, I just wanted to point out that if you take a good look at the design of the Spirit Medallion, you'll notice that it closely resembles a Yin Yang. Now, I think the Yin Yang is actually a Taoist symbol, but it is commonly associated with Buddhism and Hinduism. I think that could fit in with how you were talking about the statue and duality, when the Yin Yang is a duality symbol. Also, the Twinrova character design could be an allusion to Twin Flames in spirituality and alchemy.
The image of a snake depends on the meaning. In Judeo-Chirstian religions, yes it's a bad omen. In older religions on the other hand (Pun not intended), Snakes were a symbol of strength and renewal. It's one of those things that changed over time, like the negative afterlife going from a cold and dreary place to a hot and painful one.

Twinrova, between this game and the Oracle titles, always seems like she's got a lot more going on than anyone else at play. They're ancient, they're described as Ganondorf's "Surrogate mother," and in the Oracle games, cause two different conflicts to try resurrecting him. I know Nintendo surely didn't plan this far ahead, but perhaps, if only in headcanon, Twinrova was a servant of Demise who founded the Gerudo tribe in order to create the vessel for his reincarnation.

I agree. Considering Ganon prophetic uprising, and Twinrova, as the surrogate mothers, it's not far fetched to think as them as divinity. They may be silly, but they are powerful. That said, snakes (more specifically serpents) outside of the Christian lore, is more a symbol of occult, divination and magic, rather than evil or malice.

Believe it or not, the crescent-moon-star isn't an Islamic symbol at all, it's actually a Pagan symbol. Very few Muslims actually allow that symbol to be displayed. In fact, I'm pretty sure it's shown in every dungeon in the game except for Jabu-Jabu's Belly. It's on those pressure plates that you have to stand on, it's on those giant blocks you have to move, it's on the Mirror Shield, it can pretty much be found throughout the whole game. That's another reason Muslims were offended by OoT, besides the Islamic prayer call in the Fire Temple, in Islam, it's a sin to have music playing during the prayer call. UPDATE: I would also like to say that any Muslims who don't know that the crescent-moon-star isn't Islamic, if there are any, could still be offended by it being used in OoT, and here's how: They might come to the conclusion that Nintendo could be trying to present the Gerudos as Muslims. This would offend them because Islamic women have to wear Hijab, and even in the Middle East, where Islam is enforced, they have to cover their whole bodies, showing nothing but their eyes. Not only do the Gerudos not cover their whole bodies or wear something that is reminiscent of a Hijab, but they also just wear these pants and these undergarment-type tops that exposes their stomachs.
Gibson Lutts most Arab countries include an Islamic Star on their flag. I've lived in the Middle East for 11 years of my life and I have never met a Muslim who sees the crescent as unislamic. It's also decorated in most mosques. When the Red Cross operates in the Middle East, to be culturally sensitive they use a red crescent. If you mean that it's origins aren't Islamic, that's like saying the cross isn't a Christian symbol as it initially was a representation of a roman execution device. The Christian cross wasn't a used until a few centuries later but no one would deny it to be a Christian symbol now, in the same way a crescent is now associated with Islam.
I'm pretty sure Koume/Kotake took over Spirit Temple with Ganondorf rising. People mostly remember the twin witches as goofy minor treats because of Majora's Mask, but in Ocarina, they were out of the good alignement, as any other "witch" or "poe" in the game. Now, it's important to remember that Ganondorf was from Gerudo. It seems very plausible the "KIng of thieves" wanted some major allies to take care over the temple of his tribe.
But there is also another mystery...Koume and Kotaku, fire and ice duality...and also you can find a Gerudo's training ground wherer you can find ice magoc arrows. My question is, why if you are in a desert you are able to find ice magic/power if ice (solid form of water) is one of the most scarce resources in a desert?
This makes me wonder about the Arbiter's Grounds, though. If you are in the Mirror Chamber and scan the desert with the Eagle Eyes (or mask, can't really remember what it's called.) You can see this large rock in the distance, which's front looks suspiciously alot like the goddess serving as the face of the Spirit Temple. So the Arbiter's Grounds can't be a replacement Spirit Temple to appear in TP. And yet, the goddess with the snake is also seen inside that dungeon.
In OoT there's a big round looking rock in the distance behind the Spirit Temple. I've been working on a theory connecting the two and they do not seem to be the same place but they're right next to each other.
***** It makes sense that there are two, seeing as you enter the Gerudo Desert from the east in OoT but you enter the desert from the south in TP - this is also why the two sections of desert are so different; the desert in TP bears much more resemblance to the Lanayru desert in SS.
I disagree with the interpretation of the snake. Snakes are seen as the symbol of evil only in the abrahimic religions. In every other religion and mithology on Earth, they are seen as the symbol of life, renewal, fertility, rebirth, eternity, rain, and many other positive things. For example. In India nakes living in anthills under trees are seen as the bringers of fertility, and emissaries of lord Śiva or the many goddesses of fertility and wealth. It makes sense that a race with a low fertility rate who lives in the desert (one of more inhospitable places on Earth), would attribute the snake to a patron deity who they most likely worship for these reasons.
It's possible that the Gerudo and Hylian religions both originate from the same source, but take on different interpretations. This is very much visible in real life religions such as Christianity, Islamic and Judaism. The Triforce may have been carried over to the Gerudo religion but applied in a different manner.
Maybe the Gerudo fortress and Spirit Temple were destroyed in the Hylian Gerudo war, That's my guess as to why you don't see them in Twilight Princess.
You can also notice the Islamic influence in the Fire Temple. The music played here is actually an Islamic prayer, spoken in Arabic. This was also removed in later versions.
+E. Stonez Vortex literally said at the beginning of this video that it's the fourth or the fifth, depending on your preference. I mean, clearly your preference is it being the fifth, (it's mine too, actually) but it is possible to beat this temple before moving onto the Shadow Temple.

The Gerudos are all female, have red hair, and are obsessed with using force. Din, a female diety, is also is the goddess of power, and her symbolic color is red. Their culture is centered around thievery and taking things, perhaps because they are designed for the purpose of one day taking something important, like the Triforce. The fact that Ganondorf was simply given Din's part of the Triforce by "some divine prank" during Twilight Princess shows that Din is Ganon's patron, and that she probably made the Gerudos in her image. Why? Because she believes that the Triforce belongs to whoever can take it using force, because she values power over wisdom or courage. Perhaps she also created Ganon.
There's a lot of cobras, not normal snakes. These are sacred in Hinduism and the goddess presented even wears a bindi as many Hindu gods do. I reject the idea that the snakes are s a symbol of evil when clear Hindu elements are present. (Snakes being evil is an Abrahamic idea, and this is not a very Abrahamic looking temple.) The other thing is some of your videos of the game are too dark.

I love the way your videos end. Like this one for example, getting eaten by s like-like xD
I would have assumed the central throne room was Ganondorf's seeing as how the witches raised him, spoiled him, and even considered him above all.
I was actually just about to point out how the boss room in Ganon's Tower has a striking resemblance to Twinrova's boss room, and I think you may have just pointed out the reason why. Makes sense!
Miss this girl.
Same, Rest In Peace 💙
@@Kabbaway From time to time i'll think about her and how great her videos were. When i found out i legitimately cried because i'd been watching her for so long and it felt good to watch someone who made such great content, that clearly loved the games as much as I did.
Your video dedicated to her was beautiful and, depite me not being religious, i can only hope she saw it from heaven while playing the game she was so excited for. Rest in Peace Vortexxy 🩵
@@bradyp8868 same here, she inspired me to make my own theories and it was devastating to learn of her loss 💙
Thank you so much, I'm glad you appreciated it. Wherever she is now, I truly hope she's at peace 💚
Can you do a theory about why there are blocks with the gerudo symbol and strange mechanisms in the deku tree?
Oh, and the crescent-moon-star is also on those giant pillars you have to move with the golden gauntlets as Adult Link.
Snakes also represent eternity if i remember correctly? not sure where it could fit exactly tho
Well it is the "Spirit" Temple, and the spirit is supposedly eternal :)
Snakes are also symbols of healing and prophecies
In ancient times snakes and serpents were also associated with wisdom and mysticism.
***** Then wouldn't it be a... *_treasure_* to them?
yeaaah
+Andrea Puig Cruz The iCe arrows are the Gerudo treasure
Does anyone else think that the spirit temple is based on the Egyptian monument Abu Simbel? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abu_Simbel_temples#Gallery
Did anyone else notice that Link's face got red when twinrova combined? it might just be the glow of the room but...
Alice Stapleton It's probably the room lighting, but hey, Link is a 17 year old after all ;D
+Alice Stapleton yeah i did the dude's in shock i think
ooooooooooooooooooooooo im the same age as link now! :) but i won't be anymore once december 6 comes along (sits in corner)
thats awesome
You didn't mention anything about the many the mirrors in the temple. Also why is the symbol of the Tricofore in the Spirit Temple?
yes i think im gonna share you around a bit i love your content! please continue.
Thanks! I'm working on a video at the moment which should be done tonight or tomorrow :)
*****
It makes sense that there are two, seeing as you enter the Gerudo Desert from the east in OoT but you enter the desert from the south in TP - this is also why the two sections of desert are so different; the desert in TP bears much more resemblance to the Lanayru desert in SS.
It makes sense that a race with a low fertility rate who lives in the desert (one of more inhospitable places on Earth), would attribute the snake to a patron deity who they most likely worship for these reasons.
you were about 4 years too late when you commented this, she died sometime in late 2016, she might've responded to this if she was still alive tho
Great work honestly. That was a very interesting theory.. I'm Loving this so far
Watching this video again! Vortex did a good job with these!
Interesting....well there goes the theory of this Sand Goddess being the holder of the 4Th Triforce Piece....or does it?
My bad, the Temple of Time symbol doesn't symbolize a separate sun god, but it rather symbolizes worship of the sun itself.
whoa, seconds after i watch this. there's a word puzzle game i played and it has the word spirit in it.
If the spirit temple belonged to the gerudo why is there a triforce right above the entrance
It's possible that the Gerudo and Hylian religions both originate from the same source, but take on different interpretations. This is very much visible in real life religions such as Christianity, Islamic and Judaism. The Triforce may have been carried over to the Gerudo religion but applied in a different manner.
Awesome cant wait for the next one :)
the Crescent and star is the symbol of the goddess tanit.
Maybe the Gerudo fortress and Spirit Temple were destroyed in the Hylian Gerudo war, That's my guess as to why you don't see them in Twilight Princess.
Great video!
I believe the two witches are spiritual guardians from the desert and gerudo , just like jabu jabu is for the zoras .
Always the last temple
another awesome video i subs to you
Still miss her bro😞💔
same here
Me too 💙
Good theory. I like it.
you confused the right and the left hand
Indeed I did, but too late to fix that haha
You can also notice the Islamic influence in the Fire Temple. The music played here is actually an Islamic prayer, spoken in Arabic. This was also removed in later versions.
anyone taken back by how it seems the video ends mid thought
Well _that_ was an abrupt ending.
And the symbol of the Temple of Time is really the symbol of a Pagan sun god
You know how this is set in the desert? Well... the Egyptian god of evil is ALSO the god of sandstorms, and the color red
Triattack Gaming Also has anyone noticed that the forest temple in TP looks sort of similar to the TP one?

The Spirit Temple is the 5th Temple as Adult Link... No biggie, but just saying...
+E. Stonez Vortex literally said at the beginning of this video that it's the fourth or the fifth, depending on your preference. I mean, clearly your preference is it being the fifth, (it's mine too, actually) but it is possible to beat this temple before moving onto the Shadow Temple.
+animarune isnotmyfirstname
Ahh i apologize. The accent tricked me. Fair enough, i never knew that... But i always liked doing the fire before the forest so makes sense.
Whoa whaaat! I've never tried that!! Yay, more replay motivation~ Thanks for that
And it's not a big deal, I appreciate your taking the time to apologize, even :D
I love this temple!!
Mind blowing.
The spirit temple is to DIN, the godess of the land and earth
Vortex get out of here now! That's not how you stop a vortex sucking you in btw
Whoa. Major mindfuck
Speaking of the Crescent moon symbol that is an Islamic symbol. No one ever mentions about the enemy Anubis who appears in the Spirit temple.
Anubis is an Egyptian god yet no one ever talks about why an Egyptian deity appears as an enemy in the Spirit Temple?
I dont care what you look like, who you are or where you come from, you kick so much ass. Great job on the video. I love me some girl gamers. New subscriber ^___^
