I want to get a stainless OPB just so I don’t have to worry about rust or finishes rubbing off. If I were to save the $150 and go for the black zinc version, how long do yall think the finish would last before it starts rubbing off?
Does anyone know how the chrome gets off? I have a pair of chrome finished dumbbell bars and I can kind of peel off the chrome. Is that gonna happen on barbells as well or is it a different kind of chrome coating?
Zinc is probably pretty even or maybe a little more resistant than chrome but yes that's a good start. Also, they're all rust resistant to an extent, so any option will work. Some are just MORE than others.
Cerakote is a lot more corrosion/rust resistant than stainless steel. Cerakote will not rust at all, unless it was not properly applied. Salt chamber tests prove cerakote won’t rust.
Do you know why the IPF does not allow crome on the nurl, but allows all other coatings (for example Black zink) ?
My guess would be because chrome on the shaft can flake off and get in your eyes or otherwise cause injury.

Depends on quality. If you buy an eleiko the chrome wil stay on but if you buy an cheap 90dollar one it will chip off
So would it go in level of rust protection:
1. SS
2. Cerakote
3. Chrome
4. Zinc
5. Bare
?

What about Titanium???
@@Giovanni-qp9yv Commercial grade titanium doesn't rust but it not as strong as steel.
@@FringeSportHQhow is bare steel rust resistant? It’s unprotected steel.
Which bars are stainless steel
So whats more resistant to rust. Stainless Steel or Cerakote
I have both. Stainless steel looks better
I have chrome bars in my home gym no problems with pealing
High dollar bars >$250 or lower dollar
Where does a e-coat finish fall in all of this?
Stainless ALL DAY.
A personal favorite!
