Gary is playing with so much feeling, Reminds me so much of SRV not in his playing but the expressions on his face feeling what he is playing with so much soul. Simply one of the best! Thank you Fil for this one!
Yes! I concur. It is my newly discovered favorite channel also. I was brought up in a fairly conservative household and this is my first introduction to a lot of this music. But I know good music when I hear it. I'm enjoying playing catch-up.
I was fortunate enough to sit on Gary's tour bus and chat with him. He was a no nonsense guy who cared deeply about his sound and what his fans thought of it. A truly unique guitarist and so under appreciated by the mainstream. RIP big fella.
This man , every note ripped from his soul, horrible loss , but on a lighter note , best of the season to all my fellow musicians out there , May you all hit that perfect note this year, like catching the perfect wave Its a life sustaining , , moment most will never experiance ,
First I really enjoy your videos. And LOVE Gary Moore. Your observations and reactions are very telling, at least to me. Your eyes are VERY analytical and observant. But your smile in this case is one of real enjoyment and respect from someone that you really enjoy . It shows a sense of awe in his playing style. It's great to see YOUR reaction to this performance. And yes I picked it up right away that Gary left his Peter Green 59 Les Paul at home and used a Fender Stratocaster just as Jimi would have done. Great, really great performance. Thank you for this.
That tone is glorious, truly one of the greatest single performances I've ever seen. Yes it's not Hendrix, it's just different and great on it's own. Tremendous analysis Fil!
Oh man Gary rocks, insanely talented. He definitely did justice for Hendrix's cover Red House. Gary was a phenomenal guitar player. He made any guitar sing. Gary had magical hands you would say. Now I have to watch more videos of Gary, addicted once again. Thanks Fil. Cheers man!
ACE ! Gary always gave justice to Jimi's songs. Gary was on fire with this performance. RIP Gary & Jimi & all others. Legacy for ever. Great choice Fil. Always 🤙
Before this gig took place I heard that Gary was one of those who would be performing and I knew without a shadow of a doubt that Gary would steal the show and bring the house down ... and he did indeed !
Love your channel, awesome content! Gary was one of my all time favorite blues players and he shows why here, bending that Strat to his will like it's as easy as breathing. R.I.P Gary.
Great analysis Fil ! Yes, Gary played with such boldness and uncompromised wild abandon and he had so much expression in his playing . Very few, if any, could ever hope to live on stage with Gary Moore !
Phil that was an awesome video that I had not seen before and thank you for sharing my friend, and as always your analysis is right on the money, and I’m sure glad that I came across your channel because you are definitely not only a talented musician but also a great analyzer of other peoples performances🎸🎤👍
Fil has spoiled me, I don't watch any other analyses videos. Not only for his musical knowledge, but his anatomical analyses is also a solid foundation. His humanitarian skills are second to none, which might also explain why his comment section is the most respectful on You Tube.
Gary Moore, modern day guitar virtuoso, makes his instrument sing, whine, talk & cry. Only thing it couldn't do was get up and walk itself offstage. My fav is Parisienne Walkways with Gary & Phil Lynott. The way in which Gary wrote the song was otherworldly and he actually blew Phil off the stage in the performance. We miss Gary & Phil.
Anita Nash we certainly miss them both Anita, I was fortunate to have met them over the years before their untimely deaths... a major loss to the Irish music scene here in Ireland along with the great late Rory Gallagher.
I think I would have to agree with your assessment of what Gary could make a guitar do, sing, whine etc. However one must give credit where credit is due and even though this guy is not on my top five list of great guitarists he must be acknowledged..... And that would be Roy Buchanan. When he wanted to he could make a guitar do just about anything that a human being could ever hope to do with that instrument. And do it well.
12:33 The solo. One thing about many of the very finest in my book are that emotion. Gary Moore, Roy Buchanan, Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana - and of course others - pierce my soul.
Gary Moore was truly unique. He could go in full shred mode in the middle of a Blues solo without it sounding out of place or making it a formless stream of notes. His phrasing and his dynamics were just incredible. I'm a huge guitar music fan but I'm really not that into 30 minutes solos - except when done by Gary Moore, because he knew how to keep my attention the whole time and always giving me something new, something different, while at the same time being repetitive enough for it to be catchy.
Great look at Gary moore this very much missed amazing guitarist who had every skill at his fingertips and could sing really well, makes him even more special an inspiration to every guitar technician
Fil I honestly think any adjectives I could come up with for this performance, would fall way short... so I’ll just say thanks man... RIP Gary Moore.....
Great analysis Fil. Gary was one of the greats. The greatest musician many don't know about. A tremendous blues player. Have a great Holiday Fil and a Happy New Year. Keep em coming. RIP Gary. See you on the big stage!
If Gary is not the best ever, he is certainly in the conversation. 35 years with a guitar in my hands, and I am not qualified to have any other opinion of him.
I shared a can of beer with Gary way back in 83 or 84 in his dressing room after his concert at the ulster hall in belfast... absolute master of his craft and a complete gentleman to boot!! God rest his bluesy soul.... up there somewhere with Phil Lynott blasting heavens gates apart...
@@rexvisitor44 Was lucky to have met Rory on a few occasions as a fan... Seen him many times live..absolutely fantastic! Still attend the ballyshannon Rory Gallagher festival every year to celebrate rorys music... Ted mckenna tragically dead recently and will be missed greatly but Gerry mcAvoy still plays at the festival ( rorys bass player)
Paul in Ireland That’s awesome. Was late to the party on Rory myself. Now that I’m woke, I can’t get enough of his videos. Tremendous player. Irish SRV!
Did you see Rory's Christmas concerts? I saw Gary in Montreux in 2001. He played many songs from Blues For Greeny as well as his other great songs. In French we say that he wet his shirt for the audience as a complement.
Lawrence Taylor yes Lawerence, Rory played his Christmas concert every December in belfast.... absolutely brilliant and sadly missed here in ireland but never ever forgotten....
Wow... that man can play!!!! such expression, a lesson in 'less is more',there are sections where Gary let the last note of a line sink in for 3 to 4 seconds or so, and it was not all fast all the time, wonderful playing. son enjoyable to listen to...
OMG!! He was not messing around! If Hendrix, Clapton, and SRV were audience members, this would have demanded their full attention! Thanks Fil for yet another outstanding evaluation of what in the hell was going on with this madness!
Just a small correction: Gary's next album after Still Got The Blues was in 1992 with After Hours, which contained classics like Story of the Blues, Separate Ways and Nothings The Same. It was interesting being a fan of Gary's blues playing, as like Fil my appreciation of his playing was solidified from his rock days with songs like The Loner, and even though I was starting to get into the heavier sounds of Pantera and Sepultura, I always had time for the unique expression of Gary's playing.
Gary Moore could do it all! The man, his soul and is guitar were one. I was so bummed the day he passed at 59. Hard drinking finally caught up to him. Thanks for featuring his incredible talent Fil! One other comment, I loved Monsters of Rock and Gary Moore - Rectify, Live Sheffield
I was at this show, it was a celebration of the Fender, it had David Gilmour there too and weirdly I think I remember Amy Whitehouse as well. I went with my twin brother and I'd always maintained that he missed Gary Moore when he went to the toilet, which he denied. So you can imagine my joy when on the video after Phil pauses it and it shows a wider view of the crowd you can see him coming back to his seat. Getting that kind of vindication doesn't come along every day :D.
Earth to Fil, Fil you're drooling (can't blame you). Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.. best wishes from Melbourne, Australia. Keep up the great work, it's really appreciated.
Good morning enjoyed the analysis as always. I tried to see the live stream if on tonight, since its dec. 24th Fil. Did not know Mr. Gary Moore but as always again I learn something . Will listen more to Mr. Gary's music thanks for this upload and , especially I forgot to mentioned Mr. Steve Perry a brilliant singer a few days ago massive appreciation for that analysis Fil. I busy now but have a Merry Christmas and will be watching for more of your videos in the future. Good day Fil.
I loved this and really always appreciate your take on the details. I have become really attached to neck pickups over the years, since I play pretty much 'pinky' slide in my regular rhythm and lead style, and it always yields the best sustain without too many harsh 'edges'. I also use my second finger like Gary does since there's always a slide on the pinky. Happy to see your subs climbing, as I think I may have predicted.
Gary Moore's performance makes me want to be a better player, even though I'm just an old man that plays as a hobby. I appreciate your insight into Moore's playing.
Great, great, great!! Gary is my all time favourite guitarist. I’ve never heard a guitarist who could talk with his guitar better then Gary could. Great voice as well. R.I.P. Gary.
I'm a bit of a Hendrix snob, lol, not really Hendrix rhythm but every bit as good! PURE Gary Moore! That's what I like about the greatest players, they make it their own and Gary never let us down!
Saw this video years ago, forgot about it. Thanks for bringing it back Fil. Great stuff. Another amazing player no longer with us. I recall you saying how SRV would cover Hendrix in his own style but still true to the original. This felt like Gary was making this entirely his own.
Gary Moore was an amazing guitarist. The first time I ever heard him was a recorded-live rendition of 'Shapes of Things'. It absolutely blew me away. His stellar guitar playing is really on display in that song.

Damn, could this guy ever play the blues. So much feeling. Thanks Fil, I enjoyed this very much.
A guitarist's guitarist. Man, what a complete player Gary Moore is, nice feature thanks Fil!
Gary was simply at a level very few have or will ever achieve!!
Raw, aggressive, expressive and pure. Steeped in tradition, love him and this performance is one of my favourites, he stole the show that night!!!
This is the best channel on RUclips! Where do I vote?!
Haha thanks!

Fil has my vote.... I've been here about 2yrs and haven't missed a night 😎🎸
I agree
Brian i totally agree
Stole the show that night. The master. Best I've ever heard a strat sound
Hendrix would be blown away by Gary!
Saw a young Gary Moore play with Thin Lizzy. Unbelievably good even back then.
I was fortunate enough to sit on Gary's tour bus and chat with him.
He was a no nonsense guy who cared deeply about his sound and what his fans thought of it.
A truly unique guitarist and so under appreciated by the mainstream.
RIP big fella.
Impossible to beat Gary Moore.. It's own furious style of playing with so mutch feel and perfection it's unmatched.
This man , every note ripped from his soul, horrible loss , but on a lighter note , best of the season to all my fellow musicians out there ,

There are roughly 6,500 languages in the world, and Gary Moore's guitar speaks every one of them!! Great review, yet again, fil!! Cheers, mate!! :)
What a wonderful Christmas gift. Thank you.
I’m a Hendrix freak, Moore really made this song his own. Amazing.
One of my late hubby's favorites. He loved him some Gary Moore. I love watching him. So much fun!

You can tell how into this song fil is. He usually jumps in for comment way sooner. Cant say I blame him. Gary moore is a phenomenal guitarist.
I'm a great big Thin Lizzy fan and that's where I was first introduced to this beyond amazing guitarist. I dare say the very best!
Great performance! I haven't seen this before. Thanks! Love your videos and analysis.

i was there ! so great to see him and Gilmour.

I'd love to see Gary trading off solos in a guitar battle with Roy Buchanan. Would be epic.
No one can squeeze the bejeesus out of a note more than Gary could....no one!
So good!! 💛💛💛
That`s a fact,he was incredible!!
Think Stevie R.V. would have enjoyed the competition.
This is the absolute gold standard of guitar playing.
Before this gig took place I heard that Gary was one of those who would be performing and I knew without a shadow of a doubt that Gary would steal the show and bring the house down ... and he did indeed !
Saw Jimi do Red House twice and Gary does it justice for sure.

Just finished watching this. Gary Moore was just a phenomenal guitarist and singer! Whether he was in a band or solo, just great! Thanks Fil!
It's amazing how at times the playing is so close to the "original" incorporating Jimmy's Spirit while sounding like Garry Moore .
Great analysis Fil. Gary was one of the greats. The greatest musician many don't know about. A tremendous blues player. Have a great Holiday Fil and a Happy New Year. Keep em coming. RIP Gary. See you on the big stage!
I can't understand why Rolling Stone magazine didn't include him among the 100 best Rock guitarists in the world. GM is one of the top 10 guitarists
